ANNA CARTER

WINSLOW – Anna Carter, 87, of Winslow, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022. She was born in Neidenbach, Germany, to a family of 15 children.

Anna had a rough start in life, as she grew up during World War II. As a woman in her 20s, she worked for American military families at Bitburg Air Force Base and spoke fluent English. There she met a handsome Airman named Roland with whom she fell in love. They would later marry and move to the United States. Anna became a citizen and lived the American dream. She and Roland traveled the world and the States, making many friends and enjoying life. They were even blessed to visit relatives in Germany several times.

Anna was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who spent her life caring for her loved ones. She was an amazing cook who loved to feed everyone, especially those in need. She crocheted, knitted scarfs and made blankets for family and friends. In her younger years, she sewed for herself and her daughter matching beautiful dresses and pant suits. Anna also baked and decorated special occasion cakes.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Roland S. Carter; and her sons Jeffrey Carter and John Carter.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer M. Foust and her husband Joey and their two sons, Derek and Jason LaRocque, from Chesterfield, Virginia; her son, Joseph Carter and his wife Carla, of Fairfield, and their daughter Tia Timmins, husband Eric and grandson Ethan, of Benton; as well as her grandchildren Jerrit, Ryan, Sarah, and Amanda Carter.

Anna’s funeral will be determined at a future date, where she will join her husband at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, in Augusta.

EDWARD S. McMAHON

WATERVILLE – Edward S. McMahon, 58, of the Waterville and Winslow area, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Eddie was born on June 6, 1963, the son of Richard J. McMahon and Nellie (Gwazdosky) McMahon, at the old Sisters Hospital, on College Avenue, in Waterville, which is now Mt. St. Joseph.

He spent most of his life in the Waterville/Winslow area, working in the food service industry, starting with Georges Restaurant & Catering, in Waterville. Later he would own and operate George’s “Home of the King Steak” and served Lebanese cuisine. He participated in “The Taste of Waterville” events and won “Best Entrée” for his BBQ Ribs.

He took a brief detour to New York City to work in his sister’s fabric/quilting store helping the ladies and gentlemen select their fabric and supplies.

He is survived by his siblings, Michael, Richard “Rick,” and sister, Patricia McMahon; his stepmother, Marie Foster McMahon; his stepbrother, Douglas Foster; and his stepsisters, Ramona, Bea, and Suzette.

Per Eddie ‘s wishes, there will be no service or visiting hours at this time. A graveside service will be held in the spring.

BERNADETTE MASSEY

WATERVILLE – Bernadette (Champine) Massey, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Mount St Joseph Nursing Home in Waterville. She was born and raised in Fairfield, the daughter of Archie and Marie Champine.

She graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, and then attended a one year bookkeeping program at Thomas College, in Waterville. She worked in this profession at the Lockwood-Dutchess Textile Mill, in Waterville, until 1949, at which time she married her husband John “Steve” Massey. Bernadette became a housewife and mother, as well as part-time booker, supporting her husband’s business ventures, including the Silver Dollar and Steve’s Restaurant, both in Waterville.

She was a devout Catholic, and her faith became her lifelong support. Her family members were always in her prayers, and her grandchildren always appreciated the fact that whatever their endeavors, Grammy’s prayers were with them. She will also be remembered for her dry wit and sense of humor, her love of dogs, and her strong will and independent spirit.

Bernadette is survived by her son, Scott Massey and wife Brigitte; grandsons John Massey (Katie Woodworth) and Matthew Walters; granddaughters Katy DeBlois (Nick), Lauren McCabe (John), Aimee Massey and Christina Massey; great-grandchildren Oliver, Madeleine, Jack and Daxton; sister, Anita Mathieu; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased in death by husband, John “Steve” Massey; son, Stephen Massey, daughter, Sandra Walters; twin sister, Jeanette Duguay, sister, Estelle Maillet and brother, Carl Champine; as well as her parents.

There will be no visiting hours. A funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, March 5, at 9 a.m., at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 116 Silver St., Waterville.

GREGG SMART

ALBION – Gregg Smart, 62, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022. He was born on February 20, 1959, in Seville, Spain, to Harris, Sr. and Catherine Smart.

He leaves behind his wife, Kim; daughters Alicia Salley and husband Sam, Darcia Gonzalas and husband Eloy; sons John Smart, Jason Thibodeau and wife Megan, Randall Thibodeau and wife Felicia, Anthony Thibodeau and wife Beckie; his mother Cathy; grandchildren Jasmin, Ashlee, April, Nikita, Cheyenne, Makayla, Gracelynn, Leila, Javin, Elijah, Blake, Simon, Nolan and Warren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings Monica Warren and husband Neil, Laurel Doiron and husband Bob, Harris Smart Jr., Renee Cuthbertson and husband Arthur; and many nieces and nephews; in-laws Sharon Stevens, Deanne Hyer and husband Alton, Glendon Farmer and wife Cathy, Greg Farmer and wife Debra.

EDIE M. KING

WATERVILLE – Edie M. King, 76, passed way peacefully at Northern Light Inland Hospital, in Waterville, on Monday, February 14, 2022. Edie was born on May 13, 1945, in Providence, Rhode Island.

She moved to Sedgewick at the age of nine. Edie attended public schools and graduated in 1963 from George Stevens Academy. She graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1967 with a degree in Bacteriology. She worked for the State of Maine Public Health Lab for 25 years as a microbiologist.

Upon Edie’s retirement she and her husband Louis became active in the UMO Community including the Edith Path Society, Kennebec Valley Alumni, UMaine Foundation and Alumni Association. She sponsored three annual scholarships for students in Microbiology. She was a MES member.

Locally Edie belonged to the Waterville and Augusta Garden Clubs, and the Waterville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She also supported the arts as a member of the Waterville Opera House. Edie could find something in common with anyone and often engaged in conversations with perfect strangers. She had many hobbies.

She was a lover of flowers with Lilies being her favorite. She curated an extensive insect collection and had her own home laboratory. She collected German Steins and Black Bears.

Edie is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Louis (Louie) C. King; her four stepchildren, Cathy Simpson of Glenburn, Susan Bishop of Howland, Bethany Henderson (Thomas) of Guelph, Ontario, and Mary Ward of Bangor; sister, Jeanette Gray of Blue Hill, three brothers, Norman (Gib) McVay of Hampden, Raymond (Pudgy) McVay of Sedgwick and Bryan McVay of Brooksville; sisters-in-laws, Brenda Stilphen and Lelia LaChance. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Edie was predeceased by her parents, Gilbert and Norina (Norma) McVay.Edie will be dearly missed by all who loved her. EVELYN H. TOWNE

WATERVILLE – Evelyn Hamilton Hanscom Towne, 97, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, in Waterville. She was born on June 18, 1924, in Lewiston, to Robert and Esther Coolidge Hamilton.

She was educated in the Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1942 and from Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, in Lewiston, in 1945.

Evelyn was a registered nurse, working private duty and in the admitting office at CMG prior to her marriage to Basil C. Hanscom in 1948. Mr. Hanscom was the first director of the YMCA, in Waterville, and they resided in Waterville until he was transferred by the YMCA to Michigan where he died unexpectedly in 1956. At that time, Evelyn and their two children returned to Maine, living in the Lewiston area for a year prior to moving back to Waterville where she lived until the end of her life.

In 1957 she became associated with Thayer Hospital, in Waterville, becoming the Director of Admissions in 1964. She worked at Thayer until 1974, when she married Dr. Charles E. Towne, of Waterville. She and Charles spent winters in Naples, Florida, and summers in Waterville and Hancock Pond.

Over the years, Evelyn was an active member of the First Baptist Church and the Pleasant St. United Methodist Church, in Waterville, where she served on various boards and committees at the churches, including the Greater Waterville Council of Churches. She was a member of the Maine State Nurses Association and served on several committees at Thayer Hospital. She served as the chairman of the Individuals Committee of the United Way of Waterville for three years, was a former member of DAR, a lifetime member of the Waterville Women’s Club, and a member of the Founders Group of the current YMCA/Boys Club/Girls Club of the Alfond Youth Center. In 2011 she was inducted into the Inspirational Hall of Fame of the Alfond Youth Center.

Evelyn was preceded in death by husbands Basil C. Hanscom and Dr. Charles E. Towne, Mary Towne Sondergeld and Connie Towne.

She is survived by her son Daniel R. Hanscom (Susan), and daughter Deborah H. Christopher (Gilbert), Dr. John W. Towne, Donald Sondergeld; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service and burial will be held in the summer.

BERNARD D. BULMER

OAKLAND – Bernard Dean Bulmer, 100, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, in his home on Messalonskee Lake, which he built himself in 1962. Bern was born in Smithfield on the Sand Hill Road where the house still stands today. He was the son of Dean and Della (Brooks) Bulmer.

He attended Williams High School, in Oakland, where Bern was raised. He often told of being picked up by a wagon to go to school each day. Bern graduated high school in 1939 and was soon after drafted into the Army. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas as a machine gun instructor. Little did Bern know that Texas would change his life forever, when he walked into the Five and Dime store, where he met his Million Dollar Baby, Annie Rose Ratliff.

Bern was a man of many hats. After being discharge from the Army he learned the craft of a watch maker. While working at this job he traded a $15 watch for a 15-acre parcel of land in Smithfield. A few years later, the Maine woods began calling his name, so he went on to become cruiser to run lines and scale wood for Diamond Match Company, of Oakland. Later years, when his daughter, Virginia, was born he decided that he wanted to be closer to home. He then became an auto body/mechanic for Pullen Ford, in Oakland. That is where he bought right off the car carrier, a 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible and a 1969 Ford Ranger that are still in the family in their original state to this day. In 1979, Bern heard of a night watchman / boiler operator position for Cascade Woolen Mill, in Oakland, where he worked until retirement at the age of 75.

In 1961, with great pride, Bern joined the Masons Messalonskee Lodge #113. As well as the Masons, Bern had many other interests. He spent many hours with his family, hunting and exploring the state brook fishing. One of Bern’s proudest accomplishments was this past fall when he shot a 170-pound, 6-point buck, making him Maine’s oldest person to harvest a deer in state.

Bernard was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Annie; his brothers, Donald, and Wallace; and his granddaughter, Lorna Labbe Brackett.

He is survived by his daughter, Virginia Labbe and son-in-law, Mike; his grandchildren, Rick Labbe and his wife, Nancy, Dana Labbe and his wife, Barbara; his great-grandchildren, Tyler Brackett, Maureen Mosher, Ciera Lambert, and Jenna Murray; his five great- great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; his sister, Marion Bulmer; his brother-in- law, Richard and his wife, Callie Ratliff, where Bern spent many evenings in his later years eating supper and sharing stories of his life.

A March Celebration of Life at Wheeler Funeral Home, in Oakland, will be announced at a later date.

JAMES R. ARNOLD

WINSLOW – James Raitt Arnold, 72, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at home. Jim was born in Johnstone, Scotland, in 1949.

He moved to the United States when he was 14 years old. He was a writer, journalist, DJ, and newspaper editor.

When he lived in the Syracuse, New York, area, Jim was active with the local theater, worked tirelessly in service of his local community, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Syracuse Press Club.

Jim and Sheri moved to Maine shortly after they were married. Jim cherished the way the Maine coastline reminded him of the rocky shores of Scotland. His decades of sobriety and wide circle of friends were a treasure to Jim; he was a wonderful example of living a sober life.

Jim loved football (the soccer kind), and rock music. He loved books, especially Kurt Vonnegut and Stephen King. Jim and Sheri also shamelessly loved reality TV and their rescue cats. Jim was particularly proud of his popular, tongue-in-cheek, and encouraging newspaper column, “Finding the Pony”, about his journey with multiple myeloma.

Jim, his wicked sense of humor, and his big heart were dearly loved and will be greatly missed. In the near future, we will gather online to share our love of Jim at a virtual memorial.

Jim is survived by his wife Sheri Arnold; his daughters Jennifer Terry and her husband Mark, and Alison Bouchard and her husband Jim; his five grandchildren, Jacob, Matthew, and Joshua Terry, and Emma and Sam Bouchard; and his stepchildren Kristie Dahlia Home and Jason Haag.

JUDITH E. WESTMAN

VASSALBORO – Judith E. Westman, 72, passed away Saturday, Feburary 19, 2022, at the Mt. Joseph Nursing Home, in Waterville. Born in Caribou on April 22, 1949, she was the daughter of Orick E. and Marjorie F. (Danforth) Westman.

Judith was raised in Waterville and attended Waterville High School. In the early 2000s she went back to school and received her CNA certification. She loved taking care of people.

In 1968, she married Armond Boudreau, giving birth to three beautiful children. In the early 1970s she then married O’Neil Carpenter and blessed her family with another son.

Her diverse careers included working for Pizza Hut, in Virginia, doing construction with Bancroft Construction Corp., and serving many years for Logan Painting before going into the CNA field. This career was in what Judith took the most pride. She loved being around people and taking care of them. She made many friends and met some wonderful people during this chapter of her life.

Judith also spent many happy hours with her family watching the New England Patriots play football and betting on the Super Bowl game every year with her sister Barbara. Judith also loved knitting, making sure everyone had a blanket in their favorite color as well as being outside and gardening in her younger years. She traveled to many parts of the country including Canada, Vermont, California, and Arizona.

Besides being with her children and grandchildren, Judith loved listening to Elvis Presley and was blessed with making a trip to Graceland with her family in the early 2000s. She also got to see one of his last concerts, in Augusta, after spending the night waiting at the door for the ticket master to open. Judith was a caring, warm, and loving person to her family and all who met her. When she became a great-grandmother, she was on top of the world. She will be missed so much.

Judith was predeceased by her parents; son Jason Carpenter; sister Barbara Varney, brother Mark Westman; niece Gretchen Sally; ex-husband O’Neil Carpenter and his son Timothy Carpenter; and her best friend Butch.

Survivors include her children, David Boudreau, Jodi Carpenter-Jones, and Peter Boudreau; her sister Evelyn Carter; her extended family, Jackie Sweigart, Violet White-Carpenter, and James Carpenter; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Judith was loved by so many; the list is too long to write but know, you all meant so very much to her.

In keeping with Judith’s wishes, she will be cremated and buried at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove St., Waterville. Services, burial and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

REGINALD A. FERRAN

WATERVILLE – Reginald A. Ferran, 40, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 22, 2022, from an accident at his home, in Waterville. He was born, in Waterville, on February 15,1981, to Reggie and Judy Ferran.

Being raised in Winslow until the age of eight and then moving to China, he had attended both Winslow and China Elementary and then graduating from Waterville High School.

Reggie worked at J&S oil gas station as a teenager, then moving on to being a subcontractor for a small Satellite Company, in Winslow. Working endless jobs to find his life career, Uncle Bo Ferran stepped in and hired him to work for Granite Corp., of Oakland, where he trained to become an HVAC technician. He was considered a “Mastermind” as an HVAC technician.

In 2008, Reggie became a daddy to his first child; a daughter, Delana Teresa and then in 2010, he had a son, Layne Albert.

The one thing “Coona” loved more than his career was being a dad to his babies. He had many plans for both of his children and their future. He was so proud of his accomplishments, buying his first house in 2011. He enjoyed the simple life; gardening in his back yard, camping, hiking and just taking rides, to view the scenery around China Lake.

He had a purpose in this world, and it was to touch the lives of anyone who met him. Even though, he also had that sarcastic way about him, if he made fun of you and totally insulted you, it was because he truly liked you. A total boundary stepper, but he did it all in good fun, and would laugh at his own jokes, which in turn, you couldn’t help but laugh, too, even if you didn’t understand the joke.

Reggie was predeceased by his parents, Reggie and Judy Ferran; his paternal grandparents, Albert and Theresa Ferran; and uncles, Charles Coolbroth, Michael Herring and Jerry Herring.

He is survived by his two children, Delana and Layne Ferran; his two sisters, Danette Hotham, of China, and Jaimie Thomas, of Augusta; three nieces, Britany Pelletier, of Sidney, Hannah Whitaker, of Augusta, Alicia Hotham, of China; two nephews, Anthony Hotham, of Windsor, and Kaleb Thomas, of Augusta; two great-nephews, Levi Hotham and baby Jax Pelletier; and a “stepdad” Craig Taylor.

A celebration of the life of Reggie “Coona” Ferran will take place on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at the MacCrillis-Rousseau VFW Post #8835, in Winslow, from 2 – 6 p.m. The buffet will be set up at 4 p.m., where the family will take that time to give anyone who would like to tell stories of their experiences with Reggie, that opportunity. The cash bar will be open downstairs and can be paid for and then brought up to the event hall, but no outside liquor of any kind is permitted. If you have a favorite band T-shirt, please wear it, as he was a Rock/metal enthusiast.

ROBERT J. DEROSBY

WATERVILLE – Robert J. Derosby, 82, passed away at his home on Friday, January 28, 2022. He was born on January 11, 1940, in Waterville, to Roland and Aurelie Levasseur Derosby, along with brothers David and Armand Derosby.

Known to his family and friends as Bob, he joined the Marines at the age of 21, rising to the ranks of master sergeant. He served two tours in Vietnam before marrying his wife, Selwa Jurdak, while stationed in Paris Island, South Carolina. Upon returning to Maine in 1971, Bob was a Marine Corps recruiter in Aroostook County and then later in Waterville, where he formally retired from the military in December 1981.

Bob Derosby went on to open Valor Enterprise, Inc., a small business that provided the government and military with various items, such as clocks, plaques, coins, and trophies. Finally, after 25 years, Bob retired due to ill health, though he couldn’t sit still. So he came out of retirement to work for Northeast Labs, in Winslow, finally retiring for good at the age of 80.

Bob was quick-witted, good-natured, and made all those around him feel welcome and loved. He was the first in line to do anything for anyone, never accepting payment or praise. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends in his later years, driving (though he probably shouldn’t have), and buying coffees with way too much cream.

He is survived by his wife and partner of almost 55 years, Sally; his four children, Craig, Stacy, Alan, and Keith, and their respective partners; and his eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Zoe, Isabel, Lucas, Juliana, Sofia, Keene, and Emilia.

A celebration of Bob’s life is planned for Saturday, February 19, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Maronite Church, Front St., in Waterville.

WALLACE R. EMERSON

WATERVILLE – Wallace Rene Emerson, 90, of Waterville, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022. He was born in Fairfield on March 26, 1931, the son of Albion I. and Alfreda M. (Rainey) Emerson.

On March 4, 1983, Wallace married Jane Burgess, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Waterville. He was a member of Corpus Christie Parish, Waterville

While growing up he worked with his second cousins at the Bushey Farm on the Ten Lots Road, Oakland. After graduating high school, Wallace worked as a machine operator for Hollingsworth and Whitney Paper Company, in Winslow. At the age of 18, Wallace entered the U.S. Air Force for a two-year enlistment. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, Wallace returned to Hollingworth and Whitney Paper Company and worked through ownership changes of Scott Paper Co. and retired from Kimberly Clark Paper Company. After retiring, Wallace volunteered at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Seton Campus, for over 10 years.

Wallace and Jane loved to travel aboard the Amtrak trains throughout Canada. They took the Canadian railways to the Canadian Rockies. He loved to golf and exercised three times a week.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Gerald A. and Richard E. Emerson; niece, Patricia Emerson.

Wallace is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jane B. Emerson; several nieces and nephews; and great-niece and great-nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial and burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, in Waterville, will be held in the spring.

BLYNN L. ESTES JR.

OAKLAND – Blynn Leroy Estes Jr., 58, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 31, 2022, at home, following a battle with cancer. He was born in Waterville November 28, 1963, the eldest son of Elaine Bickford Perry and Blynn Estes Sr.

He attended schools in Nashua, New Hampshire, and graduated in 1981.

Blynn spent most of his working career in the construction field. He worked for 30 years with Sheridan Construction, in Fairfield, followed by a short stint at Newman Construction, then several years at Ganneston Construction, after which he found a position at Unity College as grounds and custodial manager until he could no longer work.

Blynn was a member of the United Bikers of Maine. He loved his children and grandchildren and his favorite thing to do was spend time with them.

He also enjoyed riding his Harley listening to his vast music collection, getting new tattoos, going to numerous concerts with his kids and playing his guitars. He was also a New England Patriots and Boston Bruins fan.

Blynn loved to collect comic books, guitars, drums, records, CDs, movies and books.

Blynn was predeceased by step-parents Joseph Perry, of Oakland, and Marianne Estes, of New Hampshire, his paternal grandparents Pearl and Leroy Estes, of Oakland, and maternal grandparents, Leople and Linton Bickford, of Oakland.

He is survived by his parents, Elaine (Bickford) Perry, of Oakland, and Blynn Estes Sr., of New Hampshire; his four children, daughter Jasmine Estes and her fiancé Christopher Merrow, of Sidney, and three sons, Logan Estes and his wife Felicia, of Wilton, Randy Frappier and Gage Estes, of Oakland; grandchildren, Ayden Estes, Tory Estes, Elijah Estes, Malachi Estes, Freya Estes-Knowles and Ivy-Lynn Estes; brothers, Chad Estes and his wife Michelle, of Clinton, Kevin Estes and his wife Gretchen, of Missouri, and sister Karen Estes, of Winslow; and many nieces and nephews, including his special nephew Michael Estes, of Clinton.

A celebration of life was held February 12, at the Trafton Road event room, 255 Trafton Road, in Waterville.

MARJORIE L. HARRINGTON

WATERVILLE – Marjorie “Margie” L. (Lashus) Harrington, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta. She was born April 16, 1929, in Winslow, the daughter of Robert and Hazel (Taylor) Lashus.

Margie was a 1946 graduate of Winslow High School and president of her senior class. She married William Harrington on May 24, 1947, and together they raised five children. Margie worked at Keyes Fibre Company, in Waterville, for 30 years, retiring in 1991. She made many good friends along life’s journey.

She is survived by her children, Gail Agee, Robert Harrington, Kathy Cote, Kellie and David Mingus; her four grandsons; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, William Harrington; son, Michael Harrington; sons-in-law, John Agee and John Cote; sisters, Jean Gagnon and Patricia Marsh.

At Margie’s request, there will be no visitation hours or funeral service. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.

LYNWOOD G. ALEXANDER

UNITY – Lynwood Gerald Alexander, 80, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Woodlands Memory Care, in Lewiston. Lynwood was born in Freedom, the son of the late Arthur and Helen (Gerald) Alexander, on November 20, 1941.

Lynwood married his wife, Marie (Kenney) Alexander, on June 3, 1961. Lynwood and Marie lived in Unity for most of their lives. His favorite past times were playing tricks on his grandkids and vice versa, going on long drives through the countryside, fishing, visiting yard sales, antique cars, Saturday morning breakfast with his sister and her husband, and most of all, spending time with his wife.

Lynwood is survived by his wife, Marie; his sons Chris (Wendy), of Brushton, New York, Craig (Laurie), of Hamden, and Paul, of Clinton; his grandchildren Ashley (Owen) Vaughan, of Brushton, New York, Benjamin (Lydia) Alexander, of Sidney, Sarah (Will) Cote, of Pittsfield, and Stacey Jo (Mike) Cianchette, of Pittsfield; his great-grandchildren Hoyt and Abilene Vaughan, of Brushton, New York, Charlie and Clayton Alexander, of Sidney, Logon and Taylor Cote, of Pittsfield; his siblings Judy (Jerry) Trundy, of Waterville, and Brenda (Roger) Drew, of Unity, his sister-in-law, Colleen Alexander, of Garrison, North Dakota; his brother-in-law, James (Joan) Kenney, of Homosassa, Florida; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great-nieces, and nephews.

Lynwood was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Helen Alexander; and his brother, Arthur Alexander Jr.

EDMOND J. ROY

WINSLOW – Edmond Joseph Roy, 90, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022, in Augusta. He passed just 64 days after his wife of 71 years, Priscilla Roy, had pass­ed. Edmond was born in Waterville on August 5, 1931, son of the late Peter and Amanda Roy. He grew up in Waterville.

Edmond worked for Pratt & Whitney, the Carpenters Union, Hollingsworth & Whitney Paper Co., in Winslow, and Huhtamaki (formerly Keyes Fibre Co.), in Waterville, where he worked for 30 years in the machine shop. He retired in 1992.

Edmond loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, who loved to fly-fish. He even tied his own flies and made his own fly rods. He took a lot of pride in doing that. His favorite place to fish was at Moosehead Lake. He also loved to go hunting with his sons. Edmond and Priscilla would rent a camp on Moosehead once a year when they were younger.

He enjoyed watching sports on TV, particularly the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and Patriots. He also enjoyed watching his sons play hockey. In Edmond’s later years, he liked to watch his grandsons play hockey. Edmond and Priscilla loved playing cards with family and friends. Every fall they drove throughout Maine and New Hampshire to enjoy foliage.

Edmond is survived by his son Stephen Roy and daughter-in-law Marta; his daughter Mary Ann Wise and son-in-law Bill; his son Paul Roy; his son Michael Roy and daughter-in-law Cindy; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren; his sister Gloria Bernier; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial for both Edmond and Priscilla will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 26 Monument Street, Winslow, Maine 04901.

Burial will be held in the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove Street, Waterville, Maine.

MAURICE J. BARD

FAIRFIELD – Maurice J. Bard, 78, of Fairfield, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at home, following a courageous ten-year battle with Leu­kemia. Mau­rice was born on August 22, 1943, in Fort Kent, son of Alcide and Cecile (Robichaud) Bard, one of 12 children.

He attended Waterville schools and graduated from Waterville High School in 1962. Maurice married the love of his life, Barbara (Rowe) Bard in August 1963. They went on to raise five children.

As a teenager Maurice worked at the Jefferson Hotel, in Waterville, starting as a prep cook and then as a cook on the Chinese side of the restaurant for a short time. He then landed a job at Waterville Auto Painters prepping vehicles; when that closed, he moved on to David Mathieu Co., in Waterville, training to be an auto body technician. In the Spring of 1966, Maurice went to work for Keyes Fibre Co., in Waterville. In August 1967, Maurice decided to pursue his own business opening Maurice’s Auto Body Shop, in Fairfield. Later his wife Barbara joined him in the business as a bookkeeper and office manager.

Maurice served on the school board at SAD #49 from 1976 to 1982. He also served several years on the advisory committee for Mid-Maine Technical Center. He also was chairman of the maintenance committee at Lake Henry Estates, in Florida.

After 31 years in the business Maurice and Barbara, in September 1998, retired turning the business over to their son, Michael, which is now Maurice and Son Auto Body. Maurice and Barbara then spent their winters at Lake Henry Estates, in Haines City, Florida, for 20 years where they enjoyed bus trips to Branson, Missouri, and a cruise to St. Martin, St. Lucia, and St. Kit.

Maurice was known for his love to help others. He enjoyed auto body, but carpentry/woodworking was his passion. He spent many hours working on projects for family and friends. Maurice will be remembered for his kind heart and willingness to help others.

He also enjoyed working with his dear friend, Gary Hammond, operating heavy equipment and earthwork projects just for fun.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alcide and Cecile Bard; his brothers, Bertrand Bard and Rosaire “Shoe” Bard; his daughter, Mary Bard; and his in-laws, Oscar, and Rita Rowe.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 58 years; his children, Marcia and husband Jeff Hubert, Melissa and husband Richard Boissonneault, Matthew and wife Corrine Bard, and Michael and wife Michelle Bard; his grandchildren, Cameron and wife Brittney Smith, Dylan and wife Desiree Smith, Derrick Smith, Bradley and wife Jessica Hubert, Benjamin and wife Jordon Hubert, Brittany Hubert and fiancé Garret Burns, Amber Bard and fiancé Steve Thompson, Trevor Boissonneault, Tyler, Teya, and Trey Bard, Marissa Barnett, and Emily and husband Nick St. Amand; his great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Bennett Hubert, Keegan Church, Aviana Boissonneault, Brayden and Colton Thompson, Aria Barnett, and Lily and Blake St. Armand; his siblings, Rosalind Joseph, Leland Bard, Bernett Harvey, Ronald Bard, Peter Bard, Lorraine Belliveau, Valier Bard, Claudette Rancourt, and Elaine LaChance; his sister in-law, Jill Bard; and many nieces and nephews.

WATERVILLE – Jeanne N. (Levasseur) Rodrigue, 81, died peacefully at Lakewood Continuing Care Center, in Waterville, on Saturday, February 5, 2022. She was born to Edmund Levasseur and Antoinette Roy Levasseur on January 19, 1941, in Winslow.

Jeanne graduated from Winslow High School in 1959. She married Albert Rodrigue Jr., on July 23, 1960, and spent most of her life as a homemaker.

She was an avid bowler, loved playing volleyball with family, and could hit a softball a very long distance. Jeanne was famous for her whoopie pies and molasses cookies and the numerous wedding cakes she made for family members. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, walking with friends, and continued to lunch monthly with high school girlfriends until recently.

She loved attending her childrens’ and grandchildrens’ musical and sporting events, where she was never at a loss for words. She could be counted on by all of her grandchildren to bring cupcakes and ice cream cups into their classrooms on their birthdays and made countless tourtiere pies for school fundraisers. She was always willing to help anyone, especially older relatives and friends, in any way she could.

Jeanne was predeceased by her parents, brothers Edmund (Donald), Conrad, Phillip, Michael, and James, sister, Marie Levasseur, sister, Lucille Gagnon and brother-in-law Gerald Gagnon, sister, Anne Merrill and brother-in-law Charles Merrill, brother- and sister-in-law Gerard and Nancy Rodrigue.

Jeanne is survived by her husband of 61 years; son, David Rodrigue and wife Susan, of Winslow, son, Daniel Rodrigue and wife Liz, of Cornville; daughter, Donna Campbell and husband Mark, of Anson and Winslow, son, Dean Rodrigue and fiancée Angel Cyr, of Millinocket; grandchildren Corey, Victoria, Abigail, Sarah, Treva, Shelby, Jessica, Grace, and Trista; and great-grandchildren Evan, Xavier, Jase, and Peyton; her sisters June Day, of Clinton, and Claire Paron, of Orlando, Florida; brother, Paul Levasseur and sister-in-law Sue, of Albion, and sisters-in-law Theresa Rodrigue, of Waterville, Ginger Levasseur, of Auburn, Lorraine Levasseur, of Sidney; brothers- and sisters-in-law John and Bernadette Rodrigue, of Benton, and James and Barbara Rodrigue, of Waterville.

VASSALBORO – Roy Augustus Brackett, of Vassalboro, died at home on Saturday, February 5, 2022.

Roy was a master electrician who retired from Colby College, in Waterville. In his retirement he enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and the lovely home he and Ruth shared. In later years he took up wood carving and often had a project in progress in his shop or on the kitchen table.

He could also often be found volunteering with the Vassalboro Historical Society or attending meetings at the Masonic Lodge, particularly if there was a potluck supper involved.

Roy is survived by Ruth Brackett, his wife of 66 years; son, Don Brackett; and grandsons Rurik Brackett and Ian Brackett.

According to his wishes, there will be no funeral, instead, Roy’s family encourages friends and relatives to enjoy a walk in the woods or a visit to the seashore with someone they love.

PALERMO – George A. Moore Sr. 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at GlenRidge Nursing Home. He was born April 17, 1937, in Augusta, the son of Lloyd and Olive (Baker) Moore.

George attended Winthrop High School and started his career at Inmot Mill, of Winthrop, Buzzells Construction, and retired from Winthrop Public works after 30 years (1971-2001) as the road commissioner.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, LeeAnn (Moore) Smith.

Surviving are his sons Stanley Moore and wife Carol, of Augusta, Doug Goucher and wife Melissa, of Winthrop, George Moore Jr. and wife Penny, of Winthrop, Rodney Moore and wife Donna, of Jefferson; daughters Donna (Moore) Pelotte and husband Emile, of Florida, Brenda (Moore) Cyr and husband Bob, of Virginia, Kelly Moore, of Rockland, and Cindy Weymouth and husband Bernard, of Winthrop; 20 grandchildren, Ben, Matt, Jason, Justin, Brian, Shaun, Jeffrey, Jonna, Kory, Monique, Chandler, Heather, Sara, Charlie, Justine, Cassie, Nick, Darcy, Roy, Darren; and 32 great-grandchildren with two additional on the way; his sister, Patricia (Moore) McDivett and spouse Rick.

JAMES F. DUDLEY

SIDNEY – James Frederick Dudley, 72, of Sidney, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the Alfond Center for Health, in Augusta. Jimmy was born in Augusta on January 27, 1950, the youngest son of Robert Alton and Beulah May (Woodward) Dudley.

Always his father’s shadow on the family farm in North Augusta, he moved with his mother and brother to Plymouth, New Hampshire, as a teenager after his father suddenly passed away. It was there he fell in love with Barbara at the age of 15. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1968 as a varsity basketball and baseball athlete. After graduation he attended New Hampshire Vocational-Technical College, continuing his baseball career, and earning an AAS in Internal Combustion Engines.

Shortly after college, he married Barbara and moved back to Maine to build their house and raise their family together. You’d often catch Jimmy patiently teaching pragmatic lessons to his children and grandchildren, shooting hoops, tending to his giant vegetable garden, ice fishing out back, riding his snowmobile, working on someone’s logging equipment in the garage he built, or watching his beloved Boston Celtics.

He imparted his quiet wisdom, fierce independence, and dry sense of humor to his family.Jimmy worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for Bridge Construction Company, in Windsor, welder at Bath Iron Works, and diesel technician at the Maine Department of Transportation, in Augusta, before retiring.

A persistent farmer at heart and an avid outdoorsman, Jimmy enjoyed hunting and fishing which he passed on to his children, grandchildren and other extended family and friends.

A member of both the Waterville and Kennebec Valley Beagle clubs, his life-long passion was raising beagles. As a leader in both clubs and the beagling community at large, he was a well-respected handler and judge in AKC field trials. He was very proud the day his beagle Taboo became an AKC National Field Champion.

During the Ice Storm of 1998 he and his co-workers at Maine DOT worked 18-hour days for weeks, tirelessly repairing utility and plow trucks to help get power back on to Maine homes and businesses, all while also not having power at home for 18 days.

He used the proceeds from that work to purchase a piece of land and built a camp with help from family and friends on Graham Lake, in Mariaville, using lumber he cut from the trees grown on the family farm. He enjoyed his time at “Camp O.T.”: fishing out front from shore or in his boat, target shooting, picking berries, ATVing, playing cribbage, marking his grandchildren’s heights, and spending memorable time with family.

He was predeceased by his wife Barbara of 51 years, his parents, his brother Robert (Bobby) Alton Dudley, Jr., of Sidney, and sister Jane Louise (Dudley) Patterson, of Chelsea.

Jimmy is survived by his children Christy Lajoie (James), of Dayton, and Eric Dudley (Sarah), of Gorham; grandchildren Alyssa and Ian Lajoie and Aidan and Grace Dudley; his stepbrother Paul Nelson (Jacqui), of Waltham, Massachusetts; several cousins, nieces and nephews, in-laws.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Cottle Cemetery, across from the old family farm in North Augusta this spring.

DR. RICHARD R. DOLE

FAIRFIELD – Dr. Richard R. Dole, 90, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022, following a difficult journey with dementia. Richard was born in Niobe, New York.

As the son of a farmer, he developed a deep reverence for the soil, crops, and the wonder of all living things. He was also a teacher’s son and had a passion for academics. As valedictorian of his high school class, he attended Houghton College and medical school at the State University of New York, in Syracuse.

He served as a captain and flight surgeon in the United States Air Force. In 1964, he opened a private practice in Waterville, becoming Medical Director of the Respiratory Therapy Department at Thayer Hospital, in Waterville. His career culminated in 1996 after serving as a pulmonologist at Togus VA hospital, in Augusta, for 10 years. He was loved by his patients and coworkers for his compassionate nature.

Richard was a kind and gentle soul. He was curious about the natural world. He loved birds, the cosmos, and cultivating the earth to grow wildflowers and vegetables. Once the peepers started peeping, he would be outside, tilling and planting, or puttering in the barn until after dark. He was a hardworking man but also knew the value of rest, he particularly enjoyed sunny winter afternoon naps. He was an avid reader, lover of music and home-cooked food, especially pie!

Richard was also a man of deep faith. He was a committed member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church. He found solace in reading the Bible and other religious texts about the Mystery that awaits us all. He wrote an essay about his faith a few years back, “… I hold no fear of facing the fate of all people and anticipate the “crossing over” as life’s greatest adventure.”

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Maureen Dole; his four children, Lisa Skinner, of West Palm Beach, Florida, Sharon Hamilton, of San Anselmo, California, David Dole, of Winslow, and Jonathan Dole, of Petaluma, California; and two “bonus” children, Jennifer Daigle, of Portland, and Jessica Daigle, of Sea Cliff, New York; as well as 12 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Winifred Dole; and his brother, Roland Dole.

A Celebration of Life service was held on Wednesday, February 16, at Fairfield United Methodist Church.

DIANNE WILLETTE

WINSLOW – Dianne Willette, 80, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022, in Augusta, following a long illness. She was born on May 30, 1941, in Massachusetts to Raymond and Rachel (Snow) Howe.

Dianne, better known as “Nana”, enjoyed spending time with family. She could be found on most summer days sitting at the family pond. Dianne’s most cherished time was Christmas Eve at her home. She just loved having everyone “crammed in”. Although these parties became smaller, this past Christmas she specifically requested, “Christmas Eve at Nanas!”, thankfully, Dianne’s wish was fulfilled. At any time when you popped in to visit, she was watching cooking shows, reading, or as she always would say, “not sleeping”.

Her truly happiest moments were spending her time with her grand- and great-grandchildren. They all loved spending time and building forever memories with Nana.

Dianne “Nana” will forever be loved and kept close within our hearts.

Dianne was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Eddie and John Howe, sisters Nancy Quirion, Florence (Babe) Perry, and Claire Thomas, and her grandson, Dylan Willette.

ZEPHYRHILLS, Florida – Richard “Dick” Albert Rodrigue, 92, of Zephyrhills, Florida, formerly of Oakland, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022.

During his earlier years, Dick enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and golf; in his later years, he enjoyed playing shuffleboard and bocce ball and never lost his passion for golf as he still played.

He is survived by his wife of almost 73 years, Joan LaCroix Rodrigue; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and David Latham, Sandra and John Palmer; four grandchildren, Mariah Eno Griffith, Wade Eno, Erica Palmer and Shane Palmer; great-grandchildren, Tyler Harris, Jacob Harris, Eloise Eno and Alexis Palmer; as well as his great-great-grandchild, Easton Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mary Jane Castilloux Rodrigue and Albert Rodrigue; and his two sisters, Jeanine Albert and Rita Shotten.

Graveside services will be held in Maine in the spring.

JOHN McLEAN

WATERVILLE – John “Rick” McLean, 60, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, following a brief illness. John was born on December 27, 1961, in Water­ville, the first born son of John and Celeste (Ire­land) McLean.

He attended grammar school in Vassalboro where he enjoyed playing football and baseball. He graduated from Winslow High School in 1980. He worked for the Harris Baking Company, in Waterville, until their closure and was then employed by Walmart until the time of his death.

When John was younger he was an avid fan of WWE Wrestling and loved watching it with his children and nephews. As he got older he became an avid fan of both football and NASCAR. He was thrilled when he was able to attend a race at Louden [NH] with his father and brothers. John loved family gatherings where you would find him laughing and joking.

John was predeceased by his mother Celeste.

He is survived by his father John McLean, of Vassalboro; son Joshua McLean and grandson Brayden, of Vassalboro; daughter Jessica McLean, of Oakland; son Jared McLean with his wife Randi and granddaughter Savanah, of Sidney; three brothers, David and his wife Arlene, of Winslow, Tim, of Vassalboro, and Mike and his wife Tawnya, of Fairfield; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

WINSLOW – Joseph Charles Grenier, “Ray the Bulldog”, 100, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at his home, in Win­slow. He was born in Win­slow on November 25, 1921, the youngest of 13 siblings born to Joseph and Mathilda Grenier.

As a young man he was an avid hockey player and often talked about shoveling off the snow to make a hockey rink with the local kids on the Kennebec River, near Waterville’s south end. He also took up boxing and had great success at it which gave him the ring name “Ray the Bulldog”. He was a longtime fan of the Boston Bruins and New England Patriots, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Ray started painting and working on battleships in Boston, Massachusetts, and was drafted in 1942, serving in the U.S. Navy as a Gunners Mate 3rd Class from 1942- 1945 in World War II. Most of his missions were on LCT (land craft tank) Ships. When he returned home he was known to work in local woolen mills, most notably the Wyandotte-Worsted Textile Mill, in Waterville, until his retirement.

In 1949, Ray married Blanche Courtemauche and they enjoyed many wonderful years together until she passed away in 1993.

Ray was a man of good health and drove his Jeep, maintained his home, mowed his lawn and snowblowed his driveway right up to his passing. He had a quick wit and smart-aleck sense of humor.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, in Winslow, and was the oldest living member of the MacCrillis-Rousseau VFW Post #8835, in Winslow.

He is survived by his daughter, Lorraine Chamberlain and Patsy Viglione, of Florida; his 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 34 great-great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Ray was predeceased by his wife Blanche; daughters Rita McCausland and Joan Van Horn; his grandson Mike Lambert; as well as his parents and siblings.

A graveside service with military honors will be held in the spring on April 15, 2022, at 2 p.m., at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, in Augusta.

ARTHUR J. GOOLDRUP JR.

OAKLAND – Arthur J. Gooldrup Jr, 82, of Oakland, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 17, 2022, at East­ern Maine Medical Cen­ter, in Bangor. He was born August 7, 1939, in Wat­er­ville, the son of Arthur Sr. and Yvonne Gooldrup.

Arthur Jr. was educated in the China school system. Arthur Jr. married the love of his life in 1957 and remained married for 62 years enjoying each other’s company, building up special memories traveling and raising their family along the way.

Arthur Jr. worked many years and was well known for his time at Dead River Co., traveling the state installing pumps before retiring in 1998. “Retirement” is a term used loosely as he was always staying busy and active by working with “Boy”, helping family, friends or on his camper and truck. He was a devoted father and doting husband. He took great pride in his family, especially his grandchildren who called him “Grampy” and “Bampa”. He always made time for his family and would be there in a moment’s notice to help his children and grandchildren.

Arthur Jr. was social and the ultimate conversationalist, he was well known across the state and beyond, not only for his hardworking reputation but because he was someone who had time for everyone and could quickly make friends even with complete strangers. He enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, camping and going to casinos with his wife Violet. Arthur Jr. was a true role model for his family and modeled all the values a family man should have. He was predeceased by his wife Violet A. Gooldrup; parents Arthur Sr. and Yvonne Gooldrup; brothers Pete Gooldrup and Norman Moulton, sisters Connie Matteson, Barbara French, and Christine Butler; nephew Eddie Clark.

He is survived by his daughters June Vigue and husband Armand, of Oakland, Brenda Kenney and partner Seth Foster, of Waterville; son Arthur “Boy” Gooldrup III, and wife Marcy, of Oakland; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Rideout, Stacey Doucette (also Goddaughter), Mandy Kenney, James Kenney, Arthur Gooldrup IV, Cory Gooldrup, and Raelynn Gooldrup; 18 great-grandchildren; brother Jimmy Gooldrup and wife Irene; sisters Lillian Belcher and her husband James, Mary Champine, and sister-in-law Joyce Gooldrup.

At Arthur Jr.’s request there will be no funeral service. Arrangements and care will be done through Dan and Scott’s cremation.

JEAN R. MASON

SOUTH CHINA – Jean Ruth Locke Mason, 74, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Maine Medical Center, in Portland. Jean was born in Skowhegan on June 10, 1947, to Everette Locke and Ruth Locke, of Skowhegan.

She attended Madison Area Memorial High School, and in 1970 graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from the Northern Conservatory of Music. In 1979, Jean married Rev. Orville Mason and they resided in Jackman where they pastored the Jackman Church of the Nazarene. After retiring from full-time pastoring, Jean and Orville eventually moved to the China area and found their church home for decades to come.

Jean has been an active and faithful member of China Regional Church of the Nazarene from its inception over 35 years ago, on Hanson Rd., South China, in a garage. She was involved with many ministries including choral programs, leading in bells, playing piano, singing, creating scenes for VBS and other programs, and had a passion for missions as she served as the Nazarene International President for many years. Jean had a servant’s heart and would gladly help whenever asked.

Jean drove a van for the Augusta school system and found joy in her interactions with the students. Beyond her work and church activities, she volunteered for the China schools in the music program. She also had a great love for dogs. She graduated from the course of study at Animal Behavior College to be a certified dog trainer and has been training dogs (she would say their owners) since then, getting 5-star reviews from most that she has helped. She also had fun making homemade dog biscuits for the dogs in her church family and her clients.

Jean is survived by her brother-in-law, Joe Arsenault; nephew Ransdall (Randy) Luce, and nieces Laurie Paine and Dana Davis.

In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband, Orville Mason and sister Joan Aresenault.

A celebration of life was held on Sunday, January 30, at the China Regional Church of the Nazarene.

WATERVILLE – Laura M. Grivois, 82, died Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Central Maine Medical Cen­ter, in Lewis­ton. She was born July 4, 1939.

She retired from Colby College, in Waterville, in 1998.

She leaves behind two sons, Jerry L. Grivois and his wife Debrah Grivois, and Jeffrey Grivois and his wife Judith Grivois; two grandchildren, Jerry Grivois Jr. and Katelynn Grivois; one sister, Lena Wilde; and many nieces, nephews.

Services will be held in the spring.

COLEINE G. HOAGUE

Coleine G. Hoague, 89, peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022. She was born on May 17, 1932, to George and Florence Stevens.

She was born and lived in Augusta until they moved to South China.

She had a love for horses, four-wheeling, camping, singing and playing guitar. She started her career raising her kids then nursing until she started waitressing.

Coleine was predeceased by her husband of 53 years which she married on her birthday in 1952, her parents George and Florence; three brothers, Merle, Milton, and Milford; a sister-in-law Shirley Stevens; a nephew Butchie; and a great-granddaughter Payten Grace Skidgel.

She is survived by three sons Dana, Daryl and companion Penny, Danyl and companion Elsie, Debbie and husband Timothy Cormier, Deidra and companion Jim Mason; lots of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There will be no funeral services but her family will announce at a later time of a Celebration of Life.

ROBERT F. SMITH

WINSLOW – Robert Francis Smith, 68, passed away peacefully Friday, January 21, 2022. Robert was born March 17, 1953, in Waterville, the son of Leona Trask and Eben Smith.

He attended schools in Oakland and Skowhegan.

For several years he was employed at Weeks’ Body Shop, in Waterville. He then moved on to Joseph Motor Company, also inWaterville, where he was the body shop manager. In 1980 he changed careers and went to work for Lucas Tree Experts, of Portland. Bob became a licensed pesticide applicator and foreman and remained there until his retirement in 1995.

He enjoyed fishing on many different lakes in Maine but his true passion was hunting, until his health declined and he was unable to continue doing what he so enjoyed. He especially loved his annual trip to hunting camp for many years with “the boys.” He spent countless hours hunting with his very dear friends, Leo Beaulieu who passed in 2016 and David Vigue.

His children, grandchildren and great-grandson where what he was most proud of and his most cherished time was spent with them.

Bob is survived by his daughter Gretchen Rinaldi and her husband Dominick Rinaldi, of Skowhegan; son Michael Smith and his wife Carol, of Cornville; daughters Lacey Smith and partner Lee Lemieux, of Skowhegan, Lorraine Smith and partner Stephen McCarthy, of Newburyport, Massachusetts, Katlynn Smith and her partner Morgan Floyd, of Skowhegan, Jessica (Noah) Pomerleau and her partner Mikey Strom, of Winslow; granddaughters, Hailey Thorpe and partner Travis Janvrin, Leianna and Emilee Lemieux; grandsons, Christopher Wentworth, Greyson Noke and Karter McCarthy; stepgrandsons, Broc Libby and Corey Skehan; great-grandson, Max Janvrin as well as great-grandson due in May, Owen Robert Janvrin; sister, Kathy Brown, of Oakland; brother-in-law, Roger Greenwood, of Fairfield; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Basil and Winifred Trask; his daughter, Rachel; his parents; sister, Carol Hartsgrove and sister, Brenda Greenwood.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 12:30 at the VFW, 58 Preble Avenue, Madison, with a graveside service to be held in the spring.

CHARLENE G. HONEA

WINDSOR – Charlene Gracie Honea, 65, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 23, 2022, due to natural causes, at the Alfond Center for Health, in Augusta. She was born on July 2, 1956, a daughter of George E. and Edith (Erbe) Gracie Sr..

Charlene grew up in Connecticut, graduating from Tolland High School in the class of 1974. Summers during her childhood were spent at the family cottage on China Lake, a special place that remained dear to Charlene’s heart all her life. Following high school, Charlene graduated from secretarial school. She later met her future husband, Larry Honea, and the two were married on October 21, 1989. They settled on Shuman Road, in Windsor, and became parents to their daughter, Kaitlyn Honea.

For over 40 years, Charlene was a dedicated employee at Farris, Foley & Dick, P.A., in Augusta, as a legal secretary.

Charlene, known to many as “Charlie”, enjoyed fishing, boating, four-wheeling, and spending time at the cottage on China Lake. For many years, she looked forward to playing “Setback” cards every Wednesday night with friends. In her younger years, Charlene was an avid baton twirler, and was devoted in supporting Kaitlyn following her footsteps. Traveling far and wide to competitions, she was proud to watch her daughter bring home many trophies. Charlene was a homebody at heart and simply enjoyed spending time at home, playing on her Kindle.

Above all, she loved her family dearly and was a devoted wife and mother.

She was predeceased by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Larry Honea; her daughter, Kaitlyn Honea; her brother, George E. Gracie Jr. and his wife Barbara; and countless other friends.

CHARLES F. ROWLETTE

ALBION – Charles Frederick “Fred” Matthew Rowlette, 80, of Albion, passed away on Sun­day morning, January 23, 2022, at Maine­General Comfort Care, in Augusta, following a season of ill health. He was born June 17, 1941, in Drumkeeran Co, Leitrim, Ireland, the oldest son of Gerald Rowlette and Elizabeth (Buchanan) Rowlette.

He came from Ireland and settled in Brooklyn, New York, and took his first job, which was an elevator operator, where he met the love of his life Kathleen O’Hara, of Roscrea Co., Tipperary, Ireland. They married January 27, 1962.

He also worked in construction in New York and moved to Maine in 1964. He did roofing and drove truck several years for Home Swift. Retired from the State of Maine in 1984, where he worked for the Bureau of Purchases.

He enjoyed coon hunting with his friends and enjoyed raising Irish Jack Russell Terriers for many years.

Loved God’s word and telling people about the Lord. He liked to play the organ and loved music.

In addition to his wife of almost 60 years, he is survived by a daughter, Geraldine Travers and her husband Flint ,of Litchfield; two grandchildren, Tanya Fournier and her husband Kyle, of Greene, and Evan Travers and his wife Alicia, of Bowdoin; three great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Caleb, of Greene, and Damon, of Bowdoin; his brothers, Cyril Rowlette and his wife Molly, of Ireland, and Leslie Rowlette and his wife Rosaleen, of Ireland; his sisters, Geraldine Hopkins and her husband Ian, of England, and Patricia Barber and her husband John, of Ireland; and a cousin, Hazel Gardiner, of Ireland; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, and great-granddaughter, Rylee Mae Travers.

STANLEY M. WHITTIER

WATERVILLE – Stanley M. Whittier, 91, formerly a long time resident of Augusta, died Monday, January 24, 2022, at the Alfond Center for Health, in Augusta, following a long illness. He was born in Bath on January 10, 1931, a son of the late Stanley A. and Frances (Martin) Whittier.

Mr. Whittier attended Augusta schools and was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.

Mr. Whittier had been self-employed barber for many years in Augusta, where he also enjoyed organizing the Chamber of Commerce Whatever Week Races and you could always spot him in the bleachers at Cony basketball games. In 1955 he built his camp on Clary Lake, in Jefferson, which was his favorite place to spend time with family.

He was predeceased by his wife, Irene J. (Valliere) Whittier; two brothers, Keith and Leonard Whittier and his sister, Joyce Chick.

Mr. Whittier is survived by his two daughters, Gail J. Champine, of Waterville, and Jane F. Roy, of Biddeford; five grandchildren, Stacy Grondin, Jessica Grondin, Carly Champine, Morgan Burnette, and Dylane Farrington, nine great-grandchildren; three great-great- grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service was held on Tuesday, February 1, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Burial will be in the spring in Sand Hill Cemetery, Somerville.

BENTON – Kathleen J. Humphrey, 82, died peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, in Ban­gor. Kathleen was born on August 10, 1939, in East Benton, the daughter of the late Henry and Julia (Buker) Martin.

She graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, and received her degree from Farmington State Teachers College. She worked for many years as a fabric stitcher for Health-Tex, in Brunswick, and retired early from L.L.Bean, in Freeport. She committed her retirement years to taking care of her aging parents.

Kathleen raised three sons all on her own. Everything she accomplished and did was especially for them. She was adventurous, liked to travel, and had been through 48 of our states. She enjoyed sun bathing, reading, walking, and putting puzzles together.

She is survived by two sons, Gregory Humphrey and wife Stacy, of Havelock, North Carolina, and Glenn Humphrey, of Benton; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Judith Shores, of Oakland; brother, Henry Martin Jr. and wife Patricia, of Benton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her son, Jeffrey Humphrey; and a brother, Thomas H. Martin Sr., all of Benton.

JOSEPH A. BRANDT

WINDSOR – Joseph A. Brandt, 94, died on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, a proud member of the Greatest Generation. Joseph was born on April 9, 1927, in New York City, New York, to Joseph Brandt and Elizabeth J. Brandt.

Joseph enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II before graduating high school and was proud to have served. Joseph received several awards to include, Merchant Marine emblem, Pacific war zone bar, victory medal and Philippine Liberation ribbon.

Joseph was a huge supporter of the Second Amendment and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and enjoyed competitive shooting in rifle, pistol, and shotgun where he won numerous awards for his shooting abilities. Over the years, beginning in 1946, Joseph had been in 11 different Rifle and Pistol clubs, nine of which he served as president and help build and design ranges for up to 200 yards.

Joseph served as president of the agent’s advisory council while working in the insurance industry. He was once the president in the Whitefield Lions Club and served as president of W.I.S.D.U.M., where he met and fell in love with Margaret “Peggie” Whitehouse.

Joseph loved painting and art and was active until his death with the Harlow Art Gallery, in Hallowell. Joseph had won many prizes for his artwork that he shared with his friends and family. Joe will be fondly remembered for his enormous sense of humor, quick wit and sharp tongue.

Joseph is survived by his long-time companion, Margret “Peggie” Whitehouse, of Augusta; daughter, Elizabeth (Brandt) Cotrone; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be planned in the spring.

HARRY N. YEATON

ALBION – Harry Norman Yeaton, 95, a devoted businessman and family man, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Harry was born May 3, 1926, in Knox, to William and Fannie (Whitcomb) Yeaton.

He attended schools in Knox and Freedom. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and was a part of the 34th infantry regiment. He was honorably discharged in January of 1947. Harry purchased Yeaton Service and Supply, in Albion, from his father in 1969, and owned and operated it until 2017, when he sold and retired from the business that was in operation for 70 years.

Harry was a part of the Albion Volunteer Fire Department from 1960-1982. He was one of the original founders of the Lovejoy Health Center, in Albion, and was a member of the board of directors until 1990. He was a constable for the town of Albion. He was instrumental in obtaining the first emergency vehicle equipped to transport patients.

Harry was known to many children in town as Uncle Harry. He was a very generous and caring person, always putting others before himself.

Harry was a former member of the Albion Christian Church and attended Bible Baptist and Mill Stream Christian Fellowship.

He was predeceased by his parents, William and Fannie Yeaton; his sister, Francis Webber, his brothers, James and Arthur, his brother-in-law, Merville Webber; his nephews, Jerry and Jim Hustus, and his niece, Judy Burke.

Harry is survived by his sister, Betsy Yeaton, of Albion; his sister-in-law, Evelyn Yeaton, of Ocala, Florida; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 2, at Albion Christian Church. Burial will take place in the spring.

ANNE MARIE PULSIFER

NIANTIC, Connecticut – Anne Marie Pulsifer, 57, passed away, following a brief illness, on Friday December 3, 2021, in Niantic, Connecticut. Anne Marie was born on July 14, 1964, in Waterville, the daughter of William P. and Marie A. Pulsifer, of Belgrade Lakes.

Anne Marie graduated from Messalonskee High School, in Oakland, in 1982 and continued her education at Notre Dame College, in Manchester, New Hampshire. She graduated with high honors with a paralegal degree in 1986. Anne Marie worked for law firms in New Hampshire and Portland. She also worked transcribing for a cardiologist at Maine Medical Center, in Portland. In her early 20s she moved to Niantic, Connecticut, where she worked at a car dealership for several years. Later she joined her partner, Ken, at their restaurant where she remained to assist him wherever needed.

Anne Marie’s love of books started at a very young age of 9 months old, holding a very small book sitting in her high chair. Much later, her favorite book was A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeleine L’Engle. Anne Marie loved to cook and had many favorite recipes but pretty much did it her way and the results were always very good. She loved to share her cooking with friends and neighbors.

Anne Marie loved her home state of Maine and its four seasons. Growing up, she would skate for hours on the frozen stream listening to music with family and friends. In the spring she anxiously waited for the leaves to grow on the trees and for the spring bushes blooming. In the summer she always shared what she had planted for flowers and vegetables in the raised beds Ken built for her. In the fall she was able to enjoy the early foliage in Connecticut and the family would send her pictures of the stream during the peak foliage in Maine.

Anne Marie also loved the Maine coast where family would meet to celebrate her birthday at Two Lights, in Cape Elizabeth.

Anne Marie was a bright, genuine, kindhearted, thoughtful person with a great sense of humor.

She is survived by her parents, William P. and Marie A. Pulsifer; her sister Louise P. Hogan; her nephew William Hogan and niece Emily Hogan; and her partner Ken Hochstetter; uncle and aunt, James and Nancy Morissette; many cousins and family friend Maryanne Fotter; and her “Auntie Anne”, Anne Boulette.

Anne Marie was predeceased by her Godparents, Uncle George and Aunt Minette, Willena Monroe, and her uncle and aunt, Wilfred and Sylvia Morissette.

A memorial service will be held in the spring. Service, time and place will be announced.

SHARON K. LAMBERT

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Sharon Kervin Lambert, 51, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, following a courageous battle with cancer. Sharon was born on December 24, 1970, in Waterville.

After graduating from Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) with a degree in nursing, she started her first job at Lakewood, in Waterville, as an RN, kickstarting a 28-year career in nursing.

She lived in Oakland for many years where she had great pool parties and barbecues with friends and family. In 2018, Sharon moved to Hilton Head Island with her partner Karen Nevers, of 13 years, where her dreams came true living in an oceanview home. Sharon had a passion for traveling and shopping. You could always count on her for great medical advice. She was a dedicated mom. Her pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met. Sharon was predeceased by her stepfather David Mullen.

She is survived by her three children, Trevor Kervin, Chelsea and Julia Lambert; her life partner Karen Nevers; her mother, Kathleen Kervin Mullen; her sisters Jessica Mullen, Anne Boisevert and Jerri Hume; and her one nephew Caleb Heverling.

Sharon did not want a funeral, instead she wanted a celebration of life which will be held privately here in Maine and on Hilton Head Island at a later date.

FRANK BIBBER

FAIRFIELD – Frank Bibber, 75, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 4, 2022. He was born September 29, 1946, in Freeport.

He returned to Maine to be with his family after spending 23 years in Florida. Frank enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Bibber; daughters Dorothy Lane and husband Raymond, Valarie Ireland and husband John; son Frank Bibber Jr. and wife Miranda, of Minnesota; six grandchildren.

He was predeceased by father Chester Bibber, mother Mabel Bibber; two sisters, Jean Bibber and Sophie Trott; and granddaughter, Ashley.

A celebration of life will be held February 5, at 1 p.m., at 77 Nyes Corner Dr., in Fairfield.

FAIRFIELD – Philip C. “Butch” Proulx, 77, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2021, at home. Butch was born August 26, 1944, in Waterville, son of the late Albert and Ruth (Bradeen) Proulx.

He was the husband of Jocelyn D. “Jocie” (Feyler) Proulx with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.

He was a graduate of Waterville High School, Colby College, in Waterville, and the University of Puerto Rico, where he received his master’s degree.

He was a United States Air Force veteran.

Butch worked as a loan officer for Small Business Administration.

In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Butch also enjoyed golfing and was an avid sportsman.

He is survived by his wife Jocie; son Craig Feyler, of Fairfield; two grandchildren Jillian and Nolan; his sister Carol Denis, of Waterville; his sister-in-law Louise Proulx, of Waterville; many nieces and nephews.

Butch is the brother of the late David and John Proulx.

DONALD L. BESSEY

WINSLOW – Donald L. Bessey, 71, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2022, in Winslow. He was born February 24, 1950, in Waterville, the son of Merton Bessey Sr. and Irene Jenness.

Donald was employed for many years as the manager for Pullen Ford’s Paint and Body Shop, in Waterville, and as an adjustor for Allstate Insurance. He also was a volunteer firefighter for Oakland in his earlier years.

Before his decline in health, Donald loved to hunt and fish and spend time with his wife at their camp in Bingham. Lots of great memories were made with family and friends. His family meant the world to him and we will miss him greatly.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Jean; daughter, Tabatha (Tim); son, Travis (Becky); stepchildren, Linda (Frank) and Steve; sisters, Barbara, Norma and Susan (Rick); grandchildren, Jeremy, Justin, Joshua, Brandon, Andrew, Vaughn, Carroll and Steven; sister-in-law, Ellen Bessey, brothers-in-law, Dennis Bolduc, Dickie Fortin, Steve (Helen) Gleason, Danny (Lisa) Gleason.

Donald was predeceased by his parents; brothers Merton Bessey Jr and James Bessey; his niece Barbara Ann St.Pierre.

There will not be a service at this time and the family is planning a celebration of life this summer.

JEFFREY L. MARSHALL

SHAWMUT – Jeffrey L. Marshall, 67, of Shawmut, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta, following a brief, but courageous, battle with AML Leukemia. Jeff was born April 2, 1954, in Waterville, to Eugene and Jacqueline (Fisher) Marshall Sr.

He attended and graduated from Waterville High School in 1972 and continued his education at Thomas College, in Waterville, earning his bachelor’s degree in business in 1976.

In 1977, Jeff met his one true love, Sandra Doyon, and they were married on July 2, of that year. After first settling in Waterville, they made their forever home in Shawmut in 1983, prior to the birth of their third child. Jeff devoted almost 46 years to the Wendy’s brand, where he was employed at the time of his passing. Jeff had started his career with Wendy’s in 1976 at the Waterville location as an assistant manager, working his way through the ranks. For the last 30 years, he served in his current position as Director of Operations for Legacy Capital Partners franchise, previously owned by Restwend LLC.

Jeff was very active in the softball community; he was a member of the Greater Waterville Softball Umpires Association (GWSUA). He was also the District 6 Commissioner for USA Softball of Maine for many years. Jeff wore many different hats when it came to softball. He was a player for many years, starting out at the age of 15 with his high school friends, asking the men’s league teams if they could practice against them. From 1973-1975, he played in the Winslow Men’s Slow Pitch league for Mr. Big. In 1976, the team joined the Waterville Men’s Modified league, playing for Maheu’s Kawasaki. In 1980 the team became D’Anne, sponsored by the late Don and Anne Harris. That team played host for the National Men’s Modified tournament that year. The final team was Harvey’s, sponsored by the late Harvey Violette. The team split up for a few years, while they were all busy raising families and reformed when Jeff started the Men’s Fall League with Waterville Parks and Rec. They continued to play and remained competitive, even against teams much younger. He finally told “The Boys” it was time to hang up their gloves as they all approached age 60, because “someone was going to get hurt.” Jeff spent a lot of time during the ‘90s coaching his daughters and helped to establish a program within the Lawrence community through the PAL program with Cleveland “Brownie” Brown.

Jeff enjoyed fishing trips with his brother Gene and nephew Randy; taking road trips with his wife Sandi, just to see where a random dirt road might go; and spending time with his grandchildren watching them grow into young adults. He loved to sing, especially karaoke at Classics on a Saturday night. Jeff was a huge Boston sports fan. In 2018, he was lucky enough to see his Red Sox play in the World Series not once, but twice, attending game one with his nephew and game two with his daughter. Jeff was a member of the MSAD #49 school board from 1996-2004, ruffling some feathers along the way, trying to do what was best for the students of Albion, Benton, Clinton, and Fairfield.

Jeff had a great sense of humor, always quick with a comeback, a one liner or a bad dad joke.

Jeff was predeceased by his parents and a granddaughter, Emma-Lynn Veilleux.

He is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Sandi; his daughters, Andrea Nickerson and her husband Ryan and their daughters Gabrielle and Aubrey, of Clinton; Sarah Marshall and boyfriend Jacob Blow and her children Seyarah, Landon and Lexi, of Shawmut; Laura Marshall and boyfriend Matthew Cookson and her children Kaytlynn and Nolan, of Fairfield; brothers Eugene and wife Dorothy, of Belgrade and Tim and his wife Cori, of Gold Hill, Oregon; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held February 20, 2022, at the Waterville Elks from 1 – 4 p.m.

COLLEEN S. COOK

VASSALBORO – Colleen S. Cook, 68, of Vassalboro, passed on Monday January 10, 2022. She was born on March 31, 1953, in Eastport, the daughter of John Jacob Hutton and Margaret Elizabeth (Calder).

Colleen grew up in Eastport and Enfield, Connecticut, graduating from Enfield High School.

As a single mom, Colleen had many jobs over the years. Most memorable were Stern’s Department Store, in Waterville, Cargill, in Oklahoma, and her most recent position at the VA hospital at Togus where she retired in 2018.

Colleen was the epitome of a people person. She was always talking to strangers, asking where they were from and if they knew so and so. She loved hosting large family gatherings every summer, and was the hub of all information. Besides her love of family and friends, her passion was shopping and gifting! She loved Christmas and never forgot a birthday!

She is survived by her husband Michael Cook; her sons James Jorgensen and his wife Jennifer, of Northboro, Massachusetts, William Jorgensen and his wife Amy, of Windham; daughter Kayla Cook, of Maine; her six grandchildren Collin, Landen, Miah, Johnny, Sarah and Bradford Jorgensen; her sisters Laurie Clark, Kathy Crockett and her husband Gerald, James Flye and his wife Arlene; sister-in-law Jayne Hutton; and many special nieces and nephews. Colleen also leaves behind three stepchildren, their spouses and children who she thought of as her own.

She was very into family history and genealogy and will be missed by those cousins and relatives she got to know over the years. Colleen was predeceased by her father John Hutton, of Covington, Kentucky, her mother, Margaret Calder Hutton, of Eastport; her stepmother, Faylene Otis; brother John Hutton, of Thorndike; and aunt Hilda Dinsmore of Enfield, Connecticut.

There will be a local memorial service in the early spring and a graveside service in July, in Eastport.

MARIE E. BELANGER

WATERVILLE – Marie E. Belanger, 83, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022. Marie was born January 30, 1938.

She was predeceased by her husband of many years, Guilford Belanger.

Marie liked her pass times such as knitting, sewing, puzzles and a good game of corn hole.

She is survived by four sisters; two sons, Gilbert Belanger and Tina Cote, of Palmyra, and Timothy and wife Susan Belanger, of Connecticut. She had several grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

Graveside burial in the spring will be announced at a later date.

RICHARD B. CAIN

VASSALBORO – Richard “Dick” B. Cain Sr., 84, died unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, January 13, 2022. Dick was born in Vassalboro to parents Silas and Delia Cain on April 1, 1937.

He was educated in the Vassalboro and Winslow schools and had been a resident of Vassalboro his entire life. Dick served six years in Maine Air National Guard from August 1959 to August 1965. He worked as a truck driver for Ladd Paper company, in Vassalboro. He owned and operated multiple gas stations and a construction business. Later, he was employed by the Waterville Sewer District and ended his working career as road foreman for the Town of Vassalboro.

Dick was also a member of the Masons.In 1960, Dick married his lifelong best friend and the love of his life, Margaret (Peggy) Jones Cain, and together they had seven children. Dick dedicated his life to his wife, his children, and grandchildren.

All the grandchildren fondly referred to him as “Pickey”. He had an extraordinary love for his pets especially his dogs, Max and Bree and his cat, Daisy. Dick was a hardworking and loving family man who instilled these values in his children and grandchildren.

One of his favorite things to do was to pack up the 4-wheeler and trailer and head down in the back woods to cut wood alongside his children and grandchildren. Dick also valued his quality time with the family. He was involved in all the children’s activities including Boy Scouts, football, and hockey boosters, and he played on the men’s softball team with his sons. He even attended his girls dance recitals. Dick especially enjoyed swimming in the pool and showing off his fancy dives or cooking up chicken and his delicious smoked steak prepared with his secret “Pickey’s sauce” for the family cookouts. He loved potluck dinners, camping, and hunting and fishing with the family.

Dick is survived by his wife, Margaret (Peggy) Jones Cain; son, Kevin Cain and his wife Gina; daughter, Alison Thompson and her husband Kevin; son, Richard Cain Jr. and his fiancée Stacey St. Amand; son, David Cain and his wife Terri, daughter, Meridith Cain; son, Alfred Jones (AJ) Cain and his wife Rhonda; 16 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; brother, Silas (Bill) Cain and his wife Lorette; sister, Maureen Macomber and her husband Bill; and sister, Patricia (Pat) Crocker and sister-in-law, Shirley Jones.

Dick was predeceased by his son Mark W. Cain, June 21, 1984, and his parents Silas and Delia Cain and Silas’s second wife Georgia Cain.

A Celebration of Life was held at the Winslow VFW on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.

OAKLAND – Isaac Powell, 43, passed away at his home in Waterville on Thursday, January 13, 2022. He was born on April 13, 1978, in Skowhegan, the son of Sandra (Plourde) and Brian Powell.

Isaac loved spending time with his family and friends, whether it was through coffee dates, or cooking up a huge pot of spaghetti for everyone to enjoy. He was a true outdoorsman, from hunting to fishing. He enjoyed spending time tinkering on vehicles. Isaac would often go for a ride, listening to old country or Elvis Presley.

Isaac is survived by his partner, Brandy Robinson and her daughter, Brooke Robinson; his four children, Chantal Powell, Richard Shibles and his partner Mariah Bryant and their children Reed and Walker, of Madison; Storm Powell and partner Kali Prevost-Moody, of Oakland, Brian Powell, of Oakland, and Heavenly Powell, of South Carolina; his parents Sandra Plourde and Brian Powell, of Oakland; his sister, Kelley and her husband Tyler Hamm and their daughter Abby; his siblings Robert Salley and Randi Salley; and uncle, Tony Powell; his grandmothers Doris Boutelle, Rosalie Powell and grandfather, Robert Plourde.

He was predeceased by his grandfathers Walter Powell and Steve Boutelle; and his uncle Mark Plourde.

STEVEN E. SHAW

ALBION – Steven E. Shaw, 67, of Albion, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 15, 2022, following a courageous fight with heart disease. He was born on May 11, 1954, to the late Joyce (Roderick) Hughes and Kenneth Shaw.

He grew up in Falmouth, Massachusetts. In 1970, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country. After his discharge from the Army, he married his first wife, Deborah Clark, daughter of Jean and William Clark. In 1981 his cherished daughter, Jennifer, was born.

He started his own roofing business and enjoyed life on Cape Cod before moving to his hunting camp in Freedom, in 1986. It was at this very hunting camp that he met his current wife, Bonnie Paquette, daughter of Ron and Joanne Gagnon and the late Don Paquette. They married on October 20, 1990.

In 1992, they were blessed with their son, Jonathan. Steve later put his carpentry skills to work and built his own home in Freedom where he spent many happy years making memories with his family.

Steve was proud of many things, but especially the time he spent working at Mount View High School, in Thorndike, as a football coach, after school supervisor, and a special ed. tech. It was during this time that he made a tremendous impact on many students, faculty and staff.

He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, which earned him the nickname Big Bucks Shaw. He treasured the time spent at his camp in Rockwood, and close friends enjoyed time at “man camp” as well.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his daughter, Jennifer (Chagnon) and her husband, Jared; his son, Jonathan and his wife Brittany; and his three grandchildren, Mason, Maddox, and Kinley. He was so grateful to his extended family, especially the Paquettes, Browns, Masessas, Clarks, Clausons.

A celebration of life was held on Saturday, January 22, at the Liberty Community Hall, 320 Pinnacle Road, Liberty, Maine.

GERALD J. GRIVOIS

OAKLAND – Gerald Joseph Grivois, 87, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at his home. He was born November 29, 1934, the son of Arthur and Mabel (Beaulieu) Grivois.

Gerald worked for Woods Typewriter Manufacturing in Hartford, Connecticut, and then for Wyndotte-Worsted Woolen Mill, in Waterville, until his retirement.

Gerald enjoyed the outdoors with hunting and fishing. He and his wife loved traveling, they went on many adventures and shared many stories.

Gerald is survived by his sons, Jerry and his wife Debbie Grivois and their son Jerry Jr., and Jeff and his wife Judy Grivois and their daughter Katelynn; and a sister, Gloria, of Utah.

He was predeceased by his wife Jeannette; his parents; his brothers, Armand, and Jimmy; his sisters, Mary, and Edwina; and uncle Harold.

There will be a burial in the spring.

HERBERT E. RHODA

OAKLAND – Herbert Ervin Rhoda, 79, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022, in his favorite chair at his home in Oakland. Herb was born in 1942 to parents Ervin and Inez (Turney) Rhoda and grew up in Cornville.

At the age of ten, he moved to Hodgdon, where he lived and tilled the earth until 1993.

Herb attended Hodgdon High School and graduated in 1960 a foul-shooter to be reckoned with. He traded witty remarks with a beautiful senior waiting for her bus on his way to an alumni basketball practice one day, and three years later on August 7, 1965, they were married. Following his graduation from Hodgdon, Herb attended the University of Maine at Orono to study soil conservation and became a potato farmer and woods contractor for Great Northern Paper Company for 30 plus years.

Herb was a devoted farmer and doting husband. He took great pride in his family, especially his grandchildren, and in his meticulously straight potato rows. The ultimate storyteller, he was well known in the County, not only for his hardworking reputation but because he was someone who had time for everyone. Herb didn’t leave the house without a toothpick in his mouth and a joke in his pocket. He could diffuse any situation with his wit and a grin. Not even a trip to the store was mundane because if Herb couldn’t find an old friend to talk to, he always made a new one.

After moving to the Waterville area in 1993, Herb worked at SAPPI Fine Papers mill, in Hinckley, until he retired. If you knew Herb, you know “retired” was a term used loosely for a man who always had a project in mind. If he wasn’t tinkering with a grandchild in his garage or garden, you could find him volunteering for RSU #18’s WATCH D.O.G.S. Program or driving the sports team buses for Thomas College. Everyone gravitated towards Herb, whether they were third grade elementary students or third year college students and beyond.

Herb loved the Lord and was well acquainted with the ground and dust from which he was made. He loved the old hymns, especially In The Garden, and loved to watch his grandchildren sing in church. He modeled how close we can be to God by sticking our hands in the dirt and fostering creation.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pamela (Wilson) Rhoda; his two sons, Chris and wife Andrea Rhoda, Craig and wife Brandie Rhoda; his grandchildren, Haven, Sierra and husband Jasper, Amelia, Emma, and Andrew; his brother, Jim Rhoda and wife Becky; sister Ruth (Rhoda) Clark and husband Brian; sister-in-law Sandra Rhoda; and his extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brother John Rhoda.

A celebration of life will be held within the Youth Center at the Faith Evangelical Free Church, 250 Kennedy Memorial Drive, Waterville, ME 04901, on February 5, from 2 – 4 p.m.

MARY AYOOB

WATERVILLE – Mary Ayoob, 103, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022. Mary was born in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of William and Sadie Ferris Ayoob.

She graduated from Fort Fairfield High School and Mercy Hospital, in Portland, where she received her associate nursing degree. Her life was one of service to others as she dedicated all her working years as an RN at Fort Fairfield General Hospital where she delivered several nieces, Sister’s Hospital, Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital, and Thayer Hospital, in Waterville.

Mary’s immense compassion led her to take a leave of absence at any moment when her family members needed her to care for them. When visiting with her youngest sister, Phyllis Ayoob Cogswell, and her family in various states, she often continued her nursing service. She was thrilled to travel with Phyllis and her husband, Ralph, to Hawaii. It was a journey of immense happiness and joy.

Mary, or Good Ol’ Aunt Mary, as her nieces and nephews called her, was full of love, kindness, humility, gentleness, generosity, simplicity, and unconditional love for her family – her legacy with whom she had the honor of being a “mother.” The days of fun seemed never ending spent at the camp of her sister, Cecilia Ayoob Coury. The outdoors and joy of nature were among her life’s pleasures. Her flowers always bloomed with unspeakable beauty and she could make any tomato or cucumber plant grow with her tender touch. Feeding and watching the birds were simple delights that reflected her sweet disposition.

Reading and traveling were among her favorite hobbies. She traveled on the Queen Mary to the Middle East. Accompanied by her sister Annie Ayoob Joseph, her dear cousins Dianne Joseph, and Mary Ferris, she had an incredible journey. Meeting and staying with cousins in Lebanon whom they had never seen was heartwarming.

Visiting several Middle Eastern countries and sightseeing in Egypt, including a camel ride, was a memorable journey that tenderly touched her heart.

Mary also enjoyed North American trips accompanied by her lifelong best friend and fellow nurse, Mary Hall, including an Alaskan cruise, a gift received on her 80th birthday. A trip to the Rocky Mountains in Canada with its majestic views was especially memorable as Mary was forever grateful for the opportunity to view the splendor of nature.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, William and Sadie Ayoob; her brothers George Ayoob, Louis Ayoob and her sisters Annie Ayoob Joseph (Elias), Cecilia Ayoob Coury (Joseph), Phyllis Ayoob Cogswell (Ralph); her nephews Darrell Joseph and Lawrence Ayoob, her nieces Gail Ayoob McManus, Jacqueline Ayoob Cilley; and in-laws, Nancy Joseph, Reginald Bernard, and Jim Schuyler.

She is survived by nieces and nephews Herbert Joseph, William Ayoob (Diane), Andrea Ayoob Pelletier (Dick), Phyllis Hay Ayoob, Anne Coury Bernard (Michael), Martha Coury Patterson (Neal), Peter Cogswell (Lillie), Michael Cogswell (Cynthia), Binette Cogswell Schuyler; 29 great-nieces and great-nephews; 30 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; and many cousins, and friends.

A devout Catholic, Mary was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Maronite Church and Corpus Christi Parish, both in Waterville. If you were observant, you could always see her putting money in poor boxes.

A celebration of her life will be held in July with a local Mass and social gathering followed by a burial service in Fort Fairfield.

NORTH VASSALBORO – Wayne Ellison Bowers Sr., 80, of North Vassalboro, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 17, 2022. Wayne was born on October 5, 1941, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Wayne graduated from Tewksbury High School and went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the Lowell Technical Institute. This led to a long, successful career as a industrial chemist, which included numerous patents with some still in use to this day.

Wayne’s passions included traveling to St. Croix, Vieques, the Wild River, Las Vegas and many other destinations with family and friends.

Wayne took great pride in his vegetable garden including growing all the ingredients for the most delicious garlic dill pickles. Wayne loved cooking up a big meal for the family and was always up for a game of cribbage. Other passions were spending time with family on the “lanai”, fishing, and a lifelong love of music.

Wayne is survived by his husband, Mathew Pitcher; his son Wayne E. Bowers Jr., his daughter Robyn Bowers-Pfeffer and her husband Ira; as well as six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Wayne was very close to his in-laws, Peter and the late Jane Pitcher, Suzanne Pelkey and her husband Scott and their beautiful family.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents; sister Carole; ex-wife Valerie; and daughter Wendy.

LISA WINTERS

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia – Lisa Winters, 38, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022. Lisa grew up in Waterville, the daughter of Dorie Hawkes Winters and Mark Winters.

She was an accomplished cross-country runner and track athlete. For the past decade, Lisa was a resident of Virginia Beach. She worked with numerous companies in the restaurant industry during her career and had an exceptional work ethic, with deep respect and loyalty for her employers. She loved family, was an adoring and fun aunt to her niece, Logan Winters, and nephews Gordie, Robert and Conrad Winters, and had a deep commitment to her friends.

Lisa is survived by her parents; her brothers and their wives, C. Todd Winters and sister-in-law Dr. Jessica Winters, and Timothy Winters and sister-in-law Natsuko Winters, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Lisa’s Life was held at Judy’s Pub & Eatery, at 315 N. Great Neck Road, Suite 364, Virginia Beach, on Thursday, January 20.

MIKE WATSON

FAIRFIELD – Mike Watson, 63, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 20, 2022. He was born on February 6, 1958, to Stan and Iva Watson, in Hartland, and grew up in Skowhegan.

Mike graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1976 and was a proud member of the Skowhegan Indians football and wrestling teams, and was in the National Honor Society. Mike attended UMO and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He completed both an associate’s in banking and a bachelor’s in business at Thomas College, in Waterville. He was a member of the Free Masons for 35 years.

Mike worked at Depositor’s Trust Co., in Waterville, for three years, Central Maine Power Co. for 29 years, and Energy Resources and Solutions (ERS) for eight more before retiring early in 2018 to care for his mom and dad, who have since both passed. At CMP, Mike worked his way up from “pushing pulp” on the river with his dear friend and mentor, Norman “Dingy” Dionne, to becoming the Director of Maintenance Engineering. At ERS, Mike was proud to be part of a team talented engineers and support staff, and was grateful to work for such a wonderful, caring company as ERS.

People, integrity, a positive attitude and a strong work ethic were most important to Mike. So was family and having fun, and he lived his life with no regrets and lots of stories to tell. Mike coached Little League for five years, was an avid fisherman, enjoyed tying flies and hunting, and shared his love for sports and the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. He was fortunate to have many, many true friends, both personally and professionally, and invites them to have a beer in his memory.

Mike is survived by his wife, Allison; his son, Benjamin Watson and three grandchildren, Miles, Eoin and Fayle, of Gorham; his stepdaughter, Melissa Audet and fiancé Ray Benjamin, and two grandchildren, Cameron James Stewart and Abigale Grace Stewart, of Clinton; his stepson, Brian Audet and wife Sydnee, granddaughter Laynee Brook, of Plymouth; his stepson, Benjamin Audet and fiancée Felecia Paradis, of Winslow; two brothers, Stanley Watson and wife Marjorie, of Georgetown, Massachusetts, and Ronnie Watson, of Cornville; his aunt Donna Sawyer and uncle Ronnie Watson, of Cambridge; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and their children.

As Mike wished, there will be no services.
