BRIAN G. AYER

SOUTH CHINA––Brian G. Ayer, 73, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta. He was born February 14, 1944, in Waterville, the son of Charles D. and Martha (Greenleaf) Ayer.

He graduated from Hampden Academy in 1962, then continued his education at Maine Maritime Academy, in Castine, graduating in 1966. He was a member of the Marine Engineer’s Beneficial Association for 34 years and Pacific Coast District #1 (PCD). Brian was employed by Lykes Brothers, American President Lines, Moore McCormick, Prudential Grace, Farrell Lines, United States Lines, and Sea Land CSX. He enjoyed corvettes, boating, fishing, gardening, home defense (maintenance projects), traveling, coastal traveling, eating out, and collecting tools.

Brian is survived by his wife, Iola L. (Bickford) Ayer, of South China; two daughters, Alexandra Pierce and husband Alan, of Stratford, Connecticut, Laurie Poirier and husband Tim, of Winslow; three sons, Randy Pottle and wife Gail, of Palermo, Micheal Ryan and wife Heather, of Palermo, Brian Aimsler and husband Diamon, of Palm Springs, California; grandchildren, Nathan, Stella, and Lucas Pierce, of Stratford, Connecticut, Tyler and Mason Poirier, of Winslow, Jamie and Guin Pottle, of Vassalboro, Lindsey Pottle, and Colton Ryan of Palermo; great-grandchildren, Trenton Poirier, of Winslow, and Ava Nugent, of Palermo.

NANCY W. GERRY

FAIRFIELD––Nancy Wheeler Gerry, recent resident of Bedside Manor, in Oakland, died Sunday, September 3, 2017, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta. Nancy was born in Augusta, June 29, 1931, second daughter of Annie (Clough) and Manchester Haynes Wheeler Sr.

She attended school in Fairfield and was a graduate of Lawrence High School.

Nancy raised her family in Fairfield and was a longtime employee of Hathaway Shirt Company, in Waterville. She loved all animals, especially cats and horses. Nancy loved riding horses, reading, sailing, swimming, listening to classical music and opera, and sitting by campfires.

She was predeceased by her parents; her stepfather George M. Bott; her sister Hope Haynes Wheeler Brown and stepbrother Morrill Bott.

Nancy is survived by her sons, David Clifford and Michael Clifford and his partner Melody Leary, all of Fairfield; her daughters, Christina (Gerry) and husband Roy Lawrence Sr., of Benton and Bobbi (Clifford) and husband Frank H. Coombs III, of Hampden; grandchildren, Joshua Coombs, Erin Coombs, Justin Walker, Matthew Walker and Julia Lawrence; and her step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

ESTHER M. ELLIS

WINSLOW––Esther Mae “Terry” Ellis, of Winslow, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017. Terry was born on March 29, 1942, in Waterville, daughter of Norman Dennis and Carolyn Brooks Knowles.

She attended Fairfield schools as a youth, later returning to earn her GED, then her high school diploma, then an associate’s degree in secretarial science from Kennebec Valley Vocational Technical Institute.

On March 24, 1959, she married David L. Ellis Sr., and quickly became a military wife, a role with many challenges, all of which she embraced. Terry and David traveled and lived on many different Naval Air Bases, growing their family along the way. Dave and Terry finally received orders to return to Maine to serve at the Brunswick Naval Air Station in 1971. They settled their family in China, and he left for Sicily, where unfortunately Dave suddenly passed away at the age of 32.

At the age of 29, Terry became the sole parent of their four children, Blaine, David, Brian, and Heidi. As with everything in her life, she approached this head on, always making sure they were her priority.

For 18 years, she was known as the “voice of Boothby and Bartlett,” making many friends along the way.

Family meant everything to Terry. All sporting events, plays, dance recitals, and holidays were important family times for her. All of her children and grandchildren know the phrase “Honey Child” and who that belonged to. They were all her “Honey Child” and she was sure to relay to all of them just how much she loved them.

She was predeceased by her parents; her infant brother, Roger; her mother and father-in-law, Mona and Gerald Ellis; her sister-in-law, Gina Ellis; grandson, Ryan Ferrigan; and several close cousins.

Her survivors include sons Blaine Ellis and fiancé Robin Coutureson, David L. Ellis Jr. and wife Heidi, Brian Ellis and wife Janet; daughter, Heidi Louten and husband Rick; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren with two on the way; her inlaws, Joseph “Skip” Ellis, Claire and Tom Pelotte, Roxanne and Margo Ellis, and Gary and Marie Ellis; her sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Rene Field; and stepdad, Tom Elliot.

BLANCHE F. WRIGLEY

OAKLAND––Blanche F. Wrigley, 84, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. She was born on October 23, 1932, in Waterville, the daughter of Aline and Dzeri Begin.

A graduate of Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, and Sisters Hospital, she began a career as a nurse in 1953. She married Richard Harris, in 1954, with whom she had four children. They were together for just eight years before Richard’s death in 1962.

Blanche raised her children independently with the support of a network of family, friends, and neighbors. In 1980, she married Gerald (Jake) Wrigley. Their two families became one, and together they shared decades of birthday parties, dinners, game nights, camping trips, and many other adventures. The family house became the site of annual Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations, crammed to the walls with relatives, food, and humor.

After retiring in the 1980s, Blanche took pleasure in gardening, making jigsaw puzzles, finding the perfect gift for family members, and playing cribbage and other games where her competitive spirit made for many lively evenings. She was a lifelong communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary and Corpus Christi Parish.

Blanche was also predeceased by her second husband Jake Wrigley; stepdaughter Susan Eaton; grandson Nick Marin; and sisters Annette Cameron and Juliette Begin.

She is survived by her children, stepchildren, and their spouses, Stephanie and Rick Thibodeau, Richard and Sandra Harris, Luke and Tena Harris, Desiree and Lenny Marin, Joanne Shaw, Time and Laurie Wrigley, and Donna Wrigley; 12 grandchildren and their spouses; eight great-grandchildren; her sister Claire Roberts; sisters-in-law Shirley Wilson and Dianne Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews; and son-in-law Kevin Eaton.

DAKOTA J. BLASCHKE

WINSLOW – Dakota “Cody” Blaschke, 24, passed away at his home, in Winslow, on Monday, September 4, 2017. Cody was born in Waterville on June 24, 1993, the son of Frederick “Rick” Blaschke and Arlene (Marsh) Blaschke. Cody was educated in the Vassalboro Community School and Waterville Senior High School, graduating from Erskine Academy, in South China, in 2011.

He worked at an organic farm in China and for the past two years as an associate at Walmart, in Waterville. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, spending time with his family and friends, and helping his brother Sage work on his house.

Cody recently adopted a rescue dog from Puerto Rico through the Humane Society Waterville Area. He had just discovered that “Rico” understands commands in Spanish better than in English.

He will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his kind soul and his infamous dread locks.

He was predeceased by his grandparents Frederick M. and Evelyn Blaschke, and Edmund and Kathren Marsh.

Cody is survived by his parents Rick and Ruth Blaschke, of Clinton, Arlene Blaschke and John Ganzen, of Vassalboro; siblings Amanda Blaschke and Sage Blaschke (his best friend), both of Winslow; Billie Jo Moore, her husband John and their children Dylan, Lyllian and Samuel, of Clinton; Jeremy Hardy and his wife Hali and their children Gerald and Charles, of Newport; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

BONNIE MATHIEU

OAKLAND – Bonnie Mathieu, 79, died peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2017 in Waterville. When she took her last breath she was being held lovingly by her husband Armand Mathieu of 59 years, her daughters Julie Mathieu and Linda Nelson, and their husbands Wayne Allen and Greg Nelson, respectively. Stubborn until the end, she held onto life until her son Michael Mathieu and his wife Beth Erlander were able to visit from Colorado. Michael lives with quadriplegia and it was the first time he had been on an airplane since his injury five years ago.

Bonnie was born in Edison (formally Raritan Township), New Jersey, on May 16, 1938, to Adam and Elizabeth Beyer. She attended Perth Amboy High School, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Soon after high school, she was introduced to Armand and they quickly fell in love and were married on July 12, 1958.

She quickly leapt into motherhood and by 1964 she had three beautiful children: Julie, Linda and Michael. Much of her energy and passion went into being an excellent wife, mother, homemaker and also a caretaker for her mother Elizabeth. She had a special knack for making birthday parties fun with special cakes and games, making awesome outfits for Halloween and other occasions, preparing fabulous food around the holidays and other gatherings, and finding four leaf clovers.

She was a rock in the family. She was always there. She had a big heart. She knew how to listen. She took care of bumps and bruises and cuts and fixed clothing and disseminated special clippings from the newspapers and news of all the extended family. For ten years she satisfied some of her love of plants by working seasonally at Longfellow’s Greenhouses, in Manchester. Later, she worked part-time for Armand’s business Maine Business Solutions, in Oakland. She was a long time active member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church, in Waterville.

Some of her special interests included, cooking, reading, sewing, gardening, painting, making pesto, birds, music, crossword puzzles, and crafts. She had a great sense of humor, and was quiet, gentle, compassionate. She was courageous to the highest order, surviving five bouts of cancer over 25 years!

She is survived by her husband and children and her one grandchild, Ryan Copeland and his partner Ella; brother Allan Beyer and his wife Barbara and their three children Kathy DelGiorno, Ken Beyer, and Chris Beyer; niece Rose Lovecchio and nephew Bruce Mast.

Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 16, at the Resurrection Lutheran Church, 36 Cool St., Waterville. A reception will follow in the basement of the church.

RICHARD J. DUPLESSIS, 93, of Augusta, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at the Veterans Administration Medical and Regional Offices, at Togus, following a courageous battle with cancer. Locally, he is survived by sisters Rita Valliere, of Augusta, and Christine Gay and husband Harvard, of Vassalboro; grandsons, Michael Bumford, of Windsor, Scott Bumford and wife Kim, of Oakland, and Jonathan Bumfored and fiancée Jen, of Augusta.

WALTER SCOTT TRAVIS, 54, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, died on Sunday, September 10, 2017, at his home following complications from diabetes. Locally, he is survived by his mother, Harriet McConnell, of South China, a brother, Joseph Travis III, of Palermo, and a sister, Cynthia Markham and husband Gary, of Farmingdale. He was predeceased by his father Joseph Travis Jr., of Palermo.

HERBERT W. (SAM) BIRCH

COOPERS MILLS – Herbert William “Sam” Birch, 84, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017, in Coopers Mills, following a long illness. Sam was born on December 11, 1932, in New Rochelle, New York, to Oscar LaMarr and Mary Ann Gertrude Smith Birch.

He graduated from University of Maine at Orono in 1955 with a degree in poultry husbandry. He proudly served as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and elsewhere. He met his future wife, the former Mary Strickland, on a blind date and married her on June 29, 1957, at Penney Memorial United Baptist Church, in Augusta.

He began his teaching career in 1958. Over the years, he taught science at Winslow Junior High, Hodgkins Junior High, and Cony High School, in Augusta. He retired as chairman of the science department in 1991.

Sam was an accomplished gardener and won many blue ribbons for his vegetables and over 300 varieties of dry beans entered at the Union Fair, Windsor Fair, and Common Ground Country Fair. He gave lectures at the Common Ground Country Fair about growing dry beans. He was a member of Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) and earned the title of master gardener. He also served on the board of directors for The Town Line newspaper.

He was a generous, witty, and dedicated individual who loved serving others. He was an active and dedicated member of the Whitefield Lions Club, Senior Spectrum board chairman and member, a founding board member of the Sheepscot Valley Health Center, member of the American Cancer society, Relay for Life, and MOFGA, among many other organizations. He helped start the ADAPT, an alcohol and drug prevention team, at Cony High School. He was a second-generation lifelong Scouter. Sam enjoyed hosting the Boy Scout troop from Mamaroneck, New York, each summer. He was a proud member of the “Old Boys Club” and enjoyed getting together to relive the old days of teaching with other retired teachers from Cony high school.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Birch; and his son, David Birch.

He is survived by his daughter Nancy Birch, of Augusta, son Peter Birch and wife Carol, of Windsor, and son Andrew Birch, of Augusta; his grandchildren, Jason Libby and wife Betsy, of New Gloucester, Maine, Melissa Birch, of Quincy, Massachusetts, Samuel Birch and Matthew Birch, of Windsor; and two great-grandsons, Carter and Jackson Libby, both of New Gloucester.

GEORGE W. STUDLEY

CHINA – George W. Studley, 73, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 18, 2017. He was born on July 12, 1944, the son of George and Winola Studley.

George, also known as Ty, grew up on the Studley Farm, in Palermo. He graduated from Erskine Academy, in South China, in 1963, and Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in 1965 with a degree in carpentry. He received an honorary discharge from the Maine National Guard, Bangor.

George married his high school sweetheart, the former Bonnie Bumps, in 1965, and they built their home in China. He worked for 27 years at Architectural Woodcraft, in Vassalboro, which later became Duratherm Windows where he became the plant supervisor. Being a multi-talented person with carpentry skills and a Jack-of-all trades, he became the community handyman.

He was an active member of the China Village Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, 37 years as the chief.

George, Ty, Dad, Geo, Beeps, Chief…was a man of few words, yet you always knew how he felt. He was hardworking, thoughtful, kind and always there for his family and friends, with his dog by his side.

He had many interests. Most important was spending time with his children and grandchildren and attending their athletic events and taking them hunting and fishing. Each summer and winter the family took fishing trips to the Allagash.

He raised white-faced Herefords, made maple syrup, cut firewood and was fascinated with digital technology. George enjoyed early mornings having coffee and visiting with friends.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years; their daughter, Wendy, and husband Tracy Bonsant, of Windsor; son, Robert, of Palermo; grandchildren, Courtney Bonsant and her partner Damien Belanger, of China; Noah Bonsant, of Windsor; and Brady Studley, of Palermo; sister Sue and husband Harold Charles, of China; and several cousins and close friends.

GEORGE HORAK

PALERMO – George Horak, 62, of Palermo, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2017, at Togus VA Hospital. He was born Feb. 5, 1955, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, to Anton and Pauline (Est) Horak.

In his early teens, he moved to Maine with his family. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

George was predeceased by his father.

Survivors include his mother, Pauline; his wife of 36 years, Gail; his children, Daryl Horak, Lisa Robinson and friend Todd, Mary Golden and husband Justin, and Linda Favreau and husband Andrew; his siblings, Michael Horak, Anton Horak, Lydia LeClair, and James Horak; several grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

RAYMOND E. CULVER, M.D.

WATERVILLE – Raymond E. Culver, M.D., 89, passed away on Tuesday August 22, 2017. He was born on November 14, 1927, in Jackson, Michigan, the son of Ophelia (Kohls) and Guy Culver.

He grew up in Stockbridge, Michigan, and graduated from Hill School, in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1956 with an M.D. in internal medicine. In 1957, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. After a parachuting injury he was reassigned to West Point where he was physician to the Cadets. He was discharged a captain and always remembered his time of service as a highlight in his life.

In the early ‘60s, he came to Waterville’s Thayer Hospital and became Maine’s first formally-trained gastroenterologist. A humble and unassuming man he rarely spoke of the honors he received in his specialty over the years. He retired in 2005. He was a member of AA for over 32 years and was not ashamed of being known as one, especially if it meant it could help someone. He personally knew the challenges faced by anyone making an effort and of the courage needed to recover – he knew everyone was redeemable and worthy of forgiveness. Often recognized for his kindness and gentleness and being very approachable he would quickly say, “I’m just another Bozo on the bus.” It was in his service to others that he was being true to himself.

A lifelong learner, Ray was an avid reader of mostly biographies and history. He was a classical pianist who enjoyed hunting and fishing; as well as tennis and sailing; throw in his love of cribbage and life was good. Simply put: he was the consummate officer and gentleman.

Ray is survived by his wife of 15 years Jean Culver; his sons, Christopher Culver and his wife Catherine, Jonathan Culver and their mother Suzanne Culver, his stepchildren, Lori Ward and her husband Capt. Ronald Ward, Doris Vermette and her husband David, Shawn Newton and his wife LeeAnne; his 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Ray was predeceased by his twin sister Ruth, his brother Guy, his stepdaughter Natalie; and his beloved mother-in-law Doris Bemis.

PAUL DUPLESSIE

VASSALBORO – Paul E. Duplessie, 81, of Vassalboro, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, in Vassalboro. He was born in East Vassalboro on May 17, 1936, the son of Christine (Patenaude) and Emile Duplessie.

He graduated from Winslow High where he was active in the school band and became a lifelong supporter of Winslow football.

Paul proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a corporal. He went on to study electrical installation in Illinois and became a nationally-qualified electrician. He returned to Maine and for the next 38 years was an electrician for Scott Paper Co. and then Kimberly-Clark.

Over the years Paul was an organist at St. Bridget’s Church, was a photographer for the Vassalboro community calendar, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, a life member of Bourque-Lanigan American Legion Post #5, in Waterville, a life member of Vassalboro Historical Society and Vassalboro Public Library. He faithfully enjoyed lunch at The Villager Restaurant, in Waterville, “where everybody knows your name.”

A highlight for Paul was a month long cross country trip he and Myrna took shortly after his retirement. They crossed over the northern states and returned the mid-states. Paul was a well-read man, with a wide range of interests – you name it – but cars were about as close to a passion as anything.

Paul is survived by his wife of 27 years, Myrna (McLean) Duplessie; his daughter Cindy Davis, his son Steven Duplessie and his wife Laurie, his daughter Pat Manning and her husband Bill, his stepchildren, Bob Beideman, Karen Beideman, Jeff Beideman and his wife Illyona; his eight grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; his two brothers, Thomas Duplessie, of Belfast, and Don Duplessie and his wife Rita, of Portland, Oregon; his favorite in-laws, John McLean, Everett McLean and his wife Marie, Neil McLean, Deanna Malloy and her husband Pat; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son-in-law Jim Davis and his sister-in-law Celeste McLean.

GLENWOOD ELLIOTT, 90, of Augusta, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at the Maine Veterans Home, in Augusta. Locally, he is survived by a daughter Carol Churchill, of Windsor.

PALERMO––Jacqueline M. “Jackie” Woodward, 79, died unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on August 18, 1937, the daughter of the late George and Mary (Sanderson) Delaney.

Mrs. Woodward had been employed for 25 years at the Kennebec Journal, retiring as head production secretary.

She later worked with her husband, Norman, as co-owner/operator of the 1-7-10 Bowling Alley in Augusta.

She was predeceased by her husband, Norman A. Woodward; brothers and sisters, Phyllis Corbett, Marion Applegate, Eddie Delaney and twin brothers Donald and Delmar Delaney.

Mrs. Woodward is survived by five children: Steve Goedecke, of Augusta, Jim Goedecke, of South China, Craig Goedecke, of Hull, Massachusetts, Mark Goedecke, of Ponte Verda, Florida, and Darline Harris, of Troy, New Hampshire; a stepson, Daniel Woodward and his wife Tina, of Hallowell; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

KENNETH F. CLEMENTS

OAKLAND––Kenneth F. Clements, 68, died Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at Maine Medical Center, in Portland. He was born in Chesterville on September 4, 1948, the son of Floyd and Katherine (Adams) Clements.

Kenneth worked as a crane operator on oil rigs, mostly in the Gulf of Mexico.

Kenneth was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a life-long member of the American Legion. His family was his priority, and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and playing 63 with his parents and siblings. He was an avid New England Patriots fan.

Surviving are his wife Candice Clements, of Oakland; a daughter Karen Camille Clements Rasar and fiancé Michael Myhaver, of Skowhegan; brothers Kermit and Calvin Clements, of Chesterville, and David Clements and companion Sheena Rapoza, of Belfast; sisters, Charlene Clements and Cynthia Wheeler and husband Charles, of Chesterville; grandchildren Justin Clements, of Waterville, Travis Stymist Jr., of Oakland, Sarah and Dylan Rodrigue, of Skowhegan; several nieces and nephews.

JEANNETTE E. EASTMAN

FAIRFIELD––Jeannette E. Eastman, 88, formerly Fairfield, passed away in Waterville at Lakewood Continued Care Nursing Home on Tuesday, August 1, 2017. Jeannette was born on October 16, 1928, in Fairfield, the daughter of Charles and Mildred (Wheeler) Estes.

She married Robert Eastman, and they raised their family in Fairfield. She worked as a bookkeeper at Peters Gas and Oil.

Jeannette loved crafts, which she made for family. She also loved cats, reading and doing word search puzzles. She loved to bake and always made the birthday cakes at family gatherings. Jeannette liked to go fishing in a boat and loved watching the Boston Red Sox.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Stevens Eastman; and son, Richard Eastman.

She is survived by her son, Robert Eastman and fiancée Kathy Poulin; her grandsons, Jason Eastman and wife Heidi, Kevin Eastman and wife Kat, Ronnie Eastman and Adam Roy; and two great-grandchildren, Jade and Murphy.

ALBION––Steven Edward Anthony, 48, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 3017, at Central Maine Medical Center, in Lewiston.

His father’s military career brought him around the world until his family found their home in Maine.

Though he had many professions throughout his life, he found his true calling as a Maine State Guide, where he pursued his passions for nature and hunting.

He is survived by his father, Harvey Anthony; his three children, Andriana, Dylan and Steven Anthony II; as well as his grandchildren, Kassidy and Zackary Jackson.

EDWARD P. NOEL

VASSALBORO––Edward “Big Ed” Paul Noel, 78, of Vassalboro, and Largo, Florida, died Saturday, August 5, 2017, at home by the lake. Ed was born in Waterville on July 27, 1939, the son of Paul E. and Nellie (Haskell) Noel.

He received his diploma from Winslow High School in 1957. He attended the University of Southern Maine and graduated from Southern Maine Community College with a machine tool technology degree.

He worked 16 years as a machinist in New Hampshire and Maine, after which he became an instructor in machine tool technology and welding for 25 years. He retired from teaching in 1999 from the Capital Area Technical Center, in Augusta.

Ed was always actively involved with community services, having been the Winslow Jaycees president in 1969 and Exalted Ruler of the Waterville Lodge of Elks #905 in 1983, of which he was a service member for over 50 years.

In 1990, Ed was the state president of the Maine Elks Association. He was an avid snowmobiler with family and friends. He lived on Webber Pond, in Vassalboro, for 40 years, his favorite place for boating. He was a longtime New England Patriots and Boston Celtics fan.

Ed enjoyed playing the drums. He was a drummer in dance bands and in retirement, in the Four Seasons Retirement Community Band.

Ed was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Avis.

He is survived by his children, Bruce Noel and Michelle Noel, of Vassalboro, Michael Noel, of Largo, Florida, Lisa Noel Beck, of Grandbury, Texas; and his granddaughter Stephanie Matijevic and her husband Ivan, of Fort Worth, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Binnette and husband Leo, of Oakland; two brothers, Joseph Noel and wife Suzette, of Waterville and David Noel, of Oakland; stepchildren, Christine Aucoin, Nanette Wells, and Gary, Lenny, Mark and Danny Proulx; and his very special friend and companion, Mary Barnes.

BENTON––Milton L. Pendexter, 86, of Benton, succumbed to lung cancer on Saturday, August 5, 2017. Milton was born on December 27, 1930, to Albert and Winnifred Pendexter.

On July 25, 1952, Milton married the former Sadie Peters. They were married 66 years prior to her death on April 6, 2017. Together they raised four children.

Milton worked at Purlac Dairy for a few years before moving on to Keyes Fibre Co. where he worked for 25 years. Milton enjoyed many recreational activities such as bowling and golfing. Milton enjoyed working around the house he completely remodeled himself. He loved working in his garden he had for years. Milton was a “Jack of all Trades” and a master of raising his children.

Milton was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Sadie Pendexter; his parents; his daughter, Candace; and a brother, Alfred Pendexter Jr.

Surviving are his four children, Gary Pendexter and his wife Mary, of Georgia; Curtis Pendexter and wife Debbie, of China; Melissa Carter and husband Lee, of Winslow; and Kevin Pendexter and wife Rica, of Winslow. JACKIE E. MOOREHEAD JR.

FAIRFIELD––Jackie Emmitt Moorehead Jr., 39, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Redington-Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan. Jackie was born on June 20, 1978, to Cecilia and Jackie E. Moorehead in Skowhegan.

He has been with his chosen family for the past 32 years. He was loved by his “parents,” Derek and Rose Adams; and brothers, Tyler and Christian Adams, of Shawmut.

If you met Jackie, you would remember his big personality and character: “With a wink and a smile, he touched many lives.” He was a proud brother and uncle who could be found giving his brothers or nieces rides on his chair or in his lap. Never has someone lived such a full life in such a short time.

Jackie graduated from Waterville High School. He later returned to volunteer at the Tech Center and assist the nursing program instructor, Tracy Cloutier, with the nursing program. Jackie loved to teach. He lived to challenge the stigmas surrounding disabilities. With the help of his job coach, Jen Bouchard, there was next to nothing that Jackie could not do. In the many jobs he held, suh as volunteering at the Muskie Center, in Waterville, AquaCoral Reef Aquarium, in Fairfield, The Fairfield Food Pantry, and Oakland Redemption, there aren’t many people who met him and did not take something away from it.

Jackie never let his disability prevent him from doing anything. His wheelchair was less of an anchor than it was his sail. He traveled across the country to sports games and communication conventions, shattering barriers and touching the hearts of countless people.

Jackie was a member of “SPRED,” a symbolic religious development for individuals with disabilities, and made lifelong connections with every person there. With the help of Barbara Pouliot, Jackie received his sacraments in April 2000 and deepened his faith. As a devout Catholic, Jackie always wanted to attend church. Saturday was a day to “sleep in,” but Sunday was for church and home with family. He volunteered at Mt. St. Joseph and visited with the residents, keeping them company and attending church with them.

Jackie was passionate about many things. He was an avid sports fan; he maintained a garden at Klearview Manor; he loved his Augusta Chapter Harley Motorcycle riders; enjoyed bowling and playing the slots.

Jackie is survived by family, Derek and Rose Adams; brothers, Tyler and Christian Adams; grandparents Janet Daigle and Karl and Myrla Rolfe; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

ROSS A. HODSDON

FAIRFIELD––Ross Alen Hodsdon, 68, died on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at his home in Fairfield. He had been battling cancer for the past six years. Ross was born in Grand Isle, on August 29, 1948, to Nellie (Hatfield) Hodsdon and Charles Warren Hodsdon.

He spent his childhood in Calais. He graduated from Calais High School and went on to earn a bachelor of arts degree from Gordon College and a master of arts in linguistics from California State University, Northridge. He became a born-again Christian as a young boy and dedicated his life to Christ a couple years later after a near-fatal canoe accident.

After completing his studies in linguistics, Ross, along with his beloved wife and collaborator, Cathy Ann (Hunter) Hodsdon, went to Brazil as missionaries where they lived with the Macushi Indian tribe in the Amazon. Ross would translate the New Testament into Macushi. Ross and Cathy became part of the translation agency Bibles International of Baptist Mid Missions and would eventually help translate the Bible into 21 languages in 14 different countries in Central and South America, Asia and the South Pacific. In addition to their translation efforts, the Hodsdons did church planting, development and recovery work in Maine, Massachusetts, Ohio, Michigan and California.

Ross was diagnosed with prostate cancer while on a missions trip in Thailand in 2011; he continued to travel for Bibles International while receiving cancer treatment until 2015.

In addition to his wife Cathy, Ross Hodsdon is survived by his children, their spouses and grandchildren: Connie and Birch Champeon and their sons Warren and Rowan; Carl and Nikki Hodsdon, their children Ashilynn, Catelynn, and Josiah, of Peru, SA; Dana and Beulah Hodsdon, their children Eli and Kirsi, of Clinton and Samuel Ross and Angelina Hodsdon, of Clinton. Ross also leaves behind his siblings and their spouses: Richard “Dick” Warren Hodsdon, of Calais; Aleta and Will Budd, of Rowley, Massachusetts; Charles “Chuck” Warren and Judy Hodsdon, of Bangor; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

VASSALBORO––Dorothy Dunlap, 92, a longtime resident of Annapolis, Maryland, was born in Jewett, Ohio, September 12, 1924, and she died on Saturday, August 1, 2017.

She was predeceased by her husband Dale in 2008. They made their home in Annapolis, Maryland from 1946 to 2011 when she moved to Maine. She was also predeceased by a son, George R. Dunlap in 2010.

Frank and Colleen Dunlap have cared for her for the past nine years as she dealt with the effects of Alzheimer’s and she resided in Vassalboro for the past seven years.

Mrs. Dunlap graduated from Ohio State University with a B.S. in home economics. Prior to having a family she was on staff at Weems System of Navigation. She and her husband Dale were members of Heritage Baptist Church where they enjoyed serving and worshipping for more than 50 years. Mrs. Dunlap had the gift of painting pictures for enjoyment.

KENNETH R. JUDKINS

OHIO/WINSLOW­­ – Sgt/Major (retired) United States Army, Kenneth R. Judkins, formerly of Winslow, passed away at the home of his daughter, Donna Judkins Workman, on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, in Conneaut, Ohio. He was born April 7, 1920, in Augusta, son of the late Harold C. and Gladys (Morin) Judkins.

Kenneth was educated in the Augusta schools and attended Cony High School. He obtained his GED in the Army, plus he received two years of college credits and educational certificates within the U.S. Army.

He served 21 years in the U.S. Army, including 27 months in the South Pacific Theater in World War II. Post war, he served in Europe in Germany and numerous U.S. bases, retiring as a Command Sgt. Major in 1964. Throughout his years of service, he was supported by, Barbara Olive (Sweet) Judkins, his wife of almost 70 years. They were married on June 30, 1943. She preceded him to eternity on November 28, 2013.

He was business manager of Northern Lebanon School District, in Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania, for three years. He returned to Maine in October 1967 as an assistant to Superintendent of Schools of Union #52, retiring in 1982. He did odd jobs until he joined the Kennebec Sheriff’s Department in 1984, where he attained the rank of lieutenant and was placed in charge of court security in Kennebec County. He worked there for seven years, retiring from the department in 1991.

He served on the Winslow Town Council in 1982 and was chairman from 1987-–88. He was an honorary member of Winslow Police Department, American Legion, member Veterans Foreign Wars, lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, Kennebec County Sheriff’s Department and Maine Association of Retirees.

He moved to Conneaut, Ohio, in 2012 to live with his daughter and family, along with Barbara, when she became too ill for him to take care of by himself.

Kenneth attended Edgewood Christian Missionary Alliance Church regularly while living in Ohio with Donna.

Kenneth was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, in 2013, and brother, Dana, in 2016.

He is survived by daughters, Donna J. (Sid) Workman, NP, Elizabeth (Matt) Barbour; son Harold “Chuck” Judkins (Martha); nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters; and a sister, Edith Brown, of Mesa, Arizona.

GEORGE H. TAYLOR

FAIRFIELD­­ – George H. Taylor, 94, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at his home in Fairfield. George was born January 14, 1923, in Waterville, son of Brunswick and Maude (Porterfield) Taylor.

He graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, and earned a degree in diesel mechanics from UEI in Chicago, Illinois.

He had a lifelong passion for cars and always owned several at a time, evident to anyone who drove by his house. He raced one time at Unity Raceway and won, driving his 1937 LaSalle.

George was well known and revered for his strong character and tireless work ethic. After dedicating 20 years to the family farm, he purchased his own truck to haul pulp in the winter and gravel in the summer. George also worked for the town of Fairfield for 65 years in various positions including director of public works, plumbing inspector, and as a volunteer firefighter. He maintained great physical strength lifelong, even cutting, splitting, and piling several cords of wood each year through the age of 93––last year, four cords alone!

George’s legacy as a beloved baseball coach is forever embedded in Central Maine’s youth sports history. A ball player himself, he played for Lawrence High and continued on in the old Somerset semi-pro league, playing left field for Kennebec Mills from the late 1940s into the early ‘50s. He began his coaching career in 1956 for the Waterville Elks-sponsored Babe Ruth team, and when Fairfield started its own Babe Ruth/PAL program the following year, George remained as a coach for 50 seasons. During that span, he also coached American Legion baseball for six years while his sons were playing in Fairfield. One season, he coached three teams at once across the Babe Ruth, Pony, and American Legion leagues. George took pride in his role as coach, teaching his players to put sportsmanship above all else while on the field and in the dugout. Between coaching games and practices, George could be found in his lawn chair behind home plate as a steadfast supporter of Lawrence High and all area Babe Ruth teams––­­youth baseball’s biggest fan.

George is survived by his sons, George “Allen” and wife Jeannean, of Skowhegan, Robert and wife Teresa, of Melbourne, Florida, Michael and wife Dawn, of Fairfield; step-children Clarence Whitman and wife Dottie, Bobby Whitman and wife Elizabeth, Bonnie Bucknam and husband Ron, of Oakland; seven grandchildren, George D. and wife Kathy, Gina, Shannon, Kristie and husband Josh, Nichole, Amanda and husband Johnny, and Ashley; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nephew Fred Taylor and wife Eleanor; nieces Carolyn Bushey and husband Frank, Laura Bartram; and his companion for many years, Joyce Nadeau.

VERNON E. HUTCHINS

JEFFERSON­­ – Vernon E. Hutchins, 83, of Jefferson, passed away at LincolnHealth­­––Miles Campus in Damariscotta on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, following a long struggle with declining health. He was born on January 17, 1934, son of Myron and Marguerite Hutchins, of Waldoboro.

He graduated from Waldoboro High in 1952 and attended the University of Maine in Orono for one year before enlisting in the Navy during the Korean War.

Vernon married the former Carolyn Vannah, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1954.

His Navy career started in Washington, D.C. where he attended Fleet Training School. He served on submarine tenders in West Key, Florida, Charleston, South Carolina, and Norfolk, Virginia. In Newport, Rhode Island he taught battery alignment and gun fire support at the Fleet Training Center. In Groton, Connecticut he was an instructor at the Submarine Attack Center, from which he retired after serving 20 years as a chief fire control technician. He worked at Sears, Roebuck in New London, Connecticut, in the building supply department and for John Hancock Insurance Company before moving back to Maine in 1983.

Before retiring completely he drove a school bus for the town of Jefferson for a few years.

He was a longtime member of the Orff’s Corner Community Church where he served as a trustee and usher with his brother Raymond for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion in Waldoboro, the Fleet Reserve Association and the Jefferson Historical Society.

He was predeceased by parents, Myron and Marguerite Hutchins; and brother Raymond Hutchins.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 62 years; son Gary V. BENTON­­ – Bruce Van Wagner, 72, passed away at Eastern Maine Medical Center, in Bangor, on Friday July 14, 2017, from a sudden illness. Bruce was born March 30, 1945, in Newport, Rhode Island, to Frederick and Roberta (Hubble) Van Wagner.

Bruce spent over ten years of active service in the U.S. Navy and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. Bruce experienced many careers including residential construction, general management and customer service. Regardless of his job, Bruce loved being able to interact with people as he was truly a people person – always putting the needs of others before his own. Bruce most recently worked at Brown’s Power Sports, in Benton, and Aubuchon Hardware, in Waterville.

Throughout his life he was an avid reader, die hard Patriots fan, and an experienced outdoors man. Bruce had many amazing experiences including a military project that was put on display at the Smithsonian Institute, in Washington, D.C.

Bruce was predeceased by both of his parents; and his three siblings.

He is survived by his stepmother Marguerite Van Wagner; wife Cheryl (Brown) Van Wagner; daughters Amanda McCaslin and Elizabeth Van Wagner; son Bruce G. Van Wagner; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

JOHN W. TAPLEY

BENTON––John Webster Tapley, 78, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta. John was born on September 30, 1938, in Waterville.

He attended Clinton High School.

He loved to go dancing and being with close friends. In later years, he enjoyed watching the old cowboy movies.

John was predeceased by his parents; son James L. Tapley; and sister Gloria Tapley Patterson.

John is survived by his wife Cynthia Foster Tapley; four daughters, Julia Tapley McEnhill, of Sharpsburg, Georgia, Johnna Tapley Neil, of Beaufort, South Carolina, Jean Tapley Pender, of Beaufort, South Carolina, Judy Tapley, of Atlanta, Georgia; step-son Daniel Hallee Jr.; step-daughter Angelique Hallee; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three nieces and several cousins.

PRISCILLA MCINTYRE

WINSLOW – Priscilla McIntyre passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at her home in Winslow. She was born April 3, 1931, in Newton, Massachusetts, the daughter of Roger and Agnes (Taylor) Farley.

Priscilla graduated from Brighton High School and the Boston Clerical School. She proudly worked as the secretary at Winslow High School for 25 years. Many past students would always remember her when she was out and about in town.

She enjoyed knitting, puzzles, reading, and going to the movies and plays. She looked forward to the annual girls trip to Wells Beach each October and traveling to Florida first with her sister each spring and with her “sisters” later in life.

She had many wonderful friendships in her life. Her special friend, Rita Gershman, has been her friend since kindergarten. She had been a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 50 years. Each and every one of those girls had truly become a sister to her.

Priscilla was predeceased by her husband, Raymond McIntyre and her sister Sheila Chalmers.

She is survived by her daughters, Elaine Motley and Thomas, of Shawmut, Sheila Poulin and Robert, of Waterville, Karen Derosby and partner James, of Waterville; her sister-in-law, Elaine Pantos, of Moultonboro, New Hampshire; her brother-in-law, Philip Chalmers, of Rockport, Massachusetts; and niece and nephews Larry, Steven, Donnie, and Laura; her grandchildren, Garrett, Amelia, and Marcus Derosby and Christopher Motley.

ROBERT M. WESCOTT

WINDSOR – Robert Michael Wescott, 82, of Windsor, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017, following a brief illness. He was born in Portland on May 27, 1935.

He attended Erskine Academy in South China.

On June 4, 1960, he married Nanette Crane.

He worked for Mowlem ­Centriline Pipeline, Sanborn Motor Express, R.C. Moore Trucking and Hussey’s Store. He owned and operated a general store, Wescott’s Market, in Gardiner and also owned his own trucking company, Wescott Trucking, for many years.

He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, William and Peter Wescott.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nanette (Crane) Wescott; his sons Michael Wescott, of Somerville, Richard Wescott and his partner Ivana Wilson, of Windsor; and his daughter Marcia (Wescott) Luszczki and her husband Carl, of Manchester; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.

STEVEN GLOWA

SHELTON, CONNECTICUT – Steven Glowa, 61, of Shelton, Connecticut, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Steve was born in Bridgeport on May 18, 1956, the son of Margaret (Beaton) Glowa and the late John Glowa, and lived in Shelton most of his life. Steve was a former baseball standout at Shelton High School (‘74), Fair­field Uni­versity, and University of New Haven. He played Cape League baseball for Wareham (‘75) and Harwich (‘76, ‘77). When he wasn’t attending cheerleading competitions, he was watching or coaching baseball. In his spare time Steve enjoyed golfing, fishing, and cooking for his family and co-workers.

He worked for the Aquarion Water Company where he retired as Pipeline Coordinator after nearly 40 years of service.

He is the father of Jeffrey Glowa and Leanne Honious and her husband Zane. He also leaves two grandchildren, Zander and Bennett; a brother, John Glowa; nephews John, Joseph and Michael Glowa; a niece Andrea Glowa; several great-nieces and nephews, and his former wife Cheryl Rich.

He was predeceased by a brother, Andrew Glowa.

ROBERT CHAMBERLAIN

WINSLOW – Robert “Stubby” Chamberlain, 88, passed away Monday, July 3, 2017. He was born November 27, 1928, the son of Raymond and Marie (Whittier) Chamberlain in Berlin, New Hampshire, but spent his early childhood in Ogunquit where he got his great love of the ocean and beach.

He moved to Waterville in 1940 and graduated from Waterville High School in 1947. He was married to the former Jacqueline Marcoux for 63 years and together they raised four children.

He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Midway from 1950 to 1954 as a parachute rigger. After being honorably discharged, he attended Thomas College, in Waterville, and graduated in 1957. He worked at C.F. HathawayShirt Co. in Waterville, for 25 years, John Deere and retired from the US Postal Service.

Robert was very involved in sports and was an outstanding second baseman during his high school years. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He spent many years coaching Little League baseball, Pop Warner football and officiated basketball, baseball and softball for over 20 years. He was a member of the Waterville Industrial Management Club, Waterville Jaycees, Elks BPOE #905 and a lifetime member of the American Legion. Since retirement, he and Jackie spent many winters in Florida where they enjoyed the ocean and beach as he had done as a child.

He is survived by his children, James, of Waterville, Thomas and wife Barbara, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Heidi McDonald and husband Michael, of Newport News, Virginia; grandchildren, Natalie Hill and Katee Chamberlain, Christopher and Adam Chamberlain, Ryan and Brooke Chamberlain and Hayley McDonald; greatgrandchildren, Robbie Sprouse and Davis Chamberlain.

He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Terri Hill; brothers, Richard and Raymond; and sister, Joyce Theriault.

RANDALL L. KNOX

AUGUSTA – Randall L. Knox, 54, died unexpectedly Monday, July 3, 2017, at his home in Augusta. Randy was born September 7, 1962, the son of Carl L. and Laurette (Grondin) Knox.

Randy graduated from Cony High School in 1981, then served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years and the U.S. Army Reserve for 15 years.

Following the military, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for many years.

Randy was a co-founder of the Working Class Band where he was a drummer for several years. Randy is also well-known for his part-time DJ services in both Maine and Florida.

He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Augusta Eagles Club.

He was involved with several motorcycle clubs and loved riding his Harley. He helped with many fundraising events, including Make a Wish Foundation.

Randy wintered in Zephyrhills, Florida.

Randy is survived by two sons, Keenan and Collin; his parents, Carl and Laurette; his sister, Carla McPherson; his brother, David and wife Karel; his nephews, Tony, Chris, Logan and Kyle; his niece Shelby; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

KEVIN C. GOGGIN

SOUTH CHINA – Kevin Charles Goggin, 23, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at the Alfond Center for Health, Augusta. He was born in Waterville on March 15, 1994, the son of Jeffrey B. and Shirley A. (Williams) Goggin.

Kevin attended China and Vassalboro schools and was a graduate of Messalonskee High School, in Oakland. During Kevin’s short time here, he touched the lives of many and was loved by everyone. His infectious grin and giggles would light up the room and put a smile on anyone’s face. For years, Kevin continuously beat the odds despite his many handicaps and life challenges.

Some of Kevin’s favorite activities included walking, car rides, listening to music, watching Barney videos, and playing in the water. Kevin always enjoyed cuddles and foot massages as well and was not bashful on seeking willing participants. He had a passion for food, especially pasta, Parmesan cheese, and French fries. Kevin also had a sweet tooth and knew where everyone’s candy dish was.

Kevin was predeceased by grandparents Charles and Zeta Williams, Blaine Goggin, and Joan Goggin.

He is survived by his parents: Jeffrey B. and Shirley A. (Williams) Goggin; a brother, Jason B. Goggin and his girlfriend Kristen, of Durham; his sister, Kayla M. Goggin, of South China; his grandmother Rachel Goggin, of South China, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

JOHN G. NOEL

FAIRFIELD––John G. Noel, 86, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017. John was born in Waterville on November 26, 1930, to Onzime and Julliette (Gagne) Noel.

He served proudly in the United States Army from 1954-1956. He was stationed in Germany with “The Big Red One.” After being discharged from the Army, John returned home to Maine where he and his wife Eleanor became house parents at Good Will Hinckley School. He was also employed at Keyes Fibre Co. where he worked testing new products until his retirement. He also worked at the former Marden’s Shoe store, in Fairfield.

During retirement John enjoyed traveling the state with his wife Eleanor, visiting friends and seeing the sights.

John was a member of The Shawmut Chapel, the Elks Club, the American Legion and the Shriners.

He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor; and daughter Laurie.

He is survived by daughter Jane, son Scott and wife Carol, son James; grandson Seth Poulin and wife Jessica; granddaughter Melissa Buxton, grandson Nick Buxton and fiancée Jasmine, granddaughter Erica and boyfriend Dennis; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

RICHARD L. TALBOT

BENTON––Richard L. Talbot, 80, of Benton, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2017, at MaineGeneral Alfond Center for Health, Augusta. He was born in Waterville on October 18, 1936, the son of Louis and Mary (Rotte) Talbot.

Richard was employed by the Lipman Poultry Products, Winslow, for 23 years as payroll clerk and auditor. In 1981,he became office manager of Levine’s Department Store, in Waterville, and when the store closed in 1996, he worked as the bookkeeper for Pacy and ludy Levine.

Richard liked to do scroll working, fishing, hunting, gardening and camping trips. For over ten years, Richard and Jeanne would take bus trips to Florida, Branson, Myrtle Beach, and their trip to Hawaii.

Richard served as Grand Knight of the Waterville Knights of Columbus.

Richard is survived by his wife, Jeanne, of Benton; two sons, John Richard Talbot and wife Beth, of Skowhegan. and James Anthony Talbot and wife Darlene, of Clinton; two sisters, Connie Thomas and Barbara Reynolds, both of South Carolina; five grandchildren, Amelia, Noah, Liam, Devon and Dustin; one great-grandson, Wyatt; and two great-granddaughters, Savanah and Miranda.

REGINALD L. FORTIN

WATERVILLE––Reginald L. “Reggie” Fortin, 70, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was born on June 27, 1947, the son of the late Leonel J. and Andrea (Talbot) Fortin.

Reggie was educated in Winslow schools and graduated from Winslow High School in 1965. Upon graduation Reggie drove a school bus for the town of Winslow and he became involved in the family business alongside his parents, known at the time as Fortin’s Hardware. In 1981, Reggie and his younger brother Mike took over the business and continued to run their parents’ legacy to this day…now known as Fortin’s Home Furnishings, in Winslow.

He was a lifetime member of the Waterville Elks Club, as well as a lifetime member of Le Club Calumet, in Augusta. He was also an active member of the Waterville Exchange Club faithfully attending weekly meetings for years.

He was predeceased by his parents; sister Louisette and husband Robert Roy, and his brother-in-law Ron LaPlante.

Reggie is survived by his companion of 42 years, Shirley K. Littlefield, of Benton; her four children, Jeff and Kathy B. Littlefield, of Winslow, Katrina and Rodney Corson, of Benton, Heidi and Daren White, of Phillips, and Harrison and Kym P. Littlefield, of Benton.

He is also survived by two sisters, Nancy and husband Jim Vanderveer, of Winslow, Jeanne LaPlante and her partner Chuck Perkins, of Waterville, brother Michael and wife Jill, of Wilson; Shirley’s five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

ROBERT W. LIBERTY

BENTON––Robert William Liberty, 20, of Benton, passed away in the early hours of Sunday, July 2, 2017. He was born on December 27, 1995, in Augusta to Kelly and Ron Liberty, also of Benton.

He was the kind of man who cared about others, and was always willing to lend a hand when anyone needed help; the kind of guy would stand up for others and stand to give his seat to a lady on a train.

The town of Madison provided a place where, as a boy, Rob could be found riding his bike all over town with frequent trips to the Irving for a milk shake, or to the Little Red Store for candy. He played baseball, football, and rode his ATV over every inch of the neighbor’s lawn. The time that he spent in Madison was very positive for Rob, due to the excellent families that helped shape him into the man that he became.

Robbie’s high school years were filled with activities at Lawrence High School, where he played football.

Employed by Ironworkers Union, Local i7, Rob had been previously employed at Cives Steel, in Augusta. During high school, Robbie spent hundreds of hours caring for the cows on the Flood Brothers Farm. Robbie was very proud to be a “Maine Guy.” He loved Carhart clothing, “Chips” boots, his straight piped F-150, anything powered by gasoline, Kayla, and his mom. He was rarely seen without his hat and at least some portion of his red beard.

Rob was predeceased by his grandfathers, Ron Liberty and Carl Cilley; and aunt, Gina Goding.

In addition to his parents, Rob is survived by his siblings; Reid Liberty and partner Jamie, and Brooke Liberty and partner Amanda; a niece, Cassidy Liberty; and grandparents, Bill and Diane Vasseur, Trena Cilley, and Rose Marie Liberty; uncles, aunts, and cousins; his better half, Kayla Paradis, her parents Jim and Sandy, and her brother Kyle and his partner Sarah.
