CHARLENE H. HYDE

MADISON – Charlene Hodgdon Hyde passed away on Saturday November 15, 2025, following stays in Skowhegan, Bangor, and Portland hospitals battling the effects of a 30-year long liver disease, long Covid, and in the last few weeks heart, lung, and kidney failure.

They shared the most intimate and rewarding moments together saying goodbye knowing the chance of recovery was fleeting. Finally on full life support she peacefully slipped away holding hands with her husband.

She and Bob moved from one interesting location in Maine to another remodeling homes using her fine sense of decorating and her very presence to make each stop along life’s journey a real home for the two of them. From the home they built in Anson to a camp they made into a home on Embden Pond, to the farmhouse at Cloughs Corner, on to remodel a home in Searsport and then one in North Anson. The final move back to the farmhouse, her favorite of them all, allowed them to continue what they started two decades before. Through all this she found time to work as a librarian, substitute teacher, secretary for M. L. Lloyd and Sons and many years working in their own propane business before retiring.

During those years you would find her and Bob traveling, along with their fur babies, mostly along the Maine coast using their motor home or camper in Northport as a base. They spent their honeymoon in a lean-to in Baxter State Park, the first of those adventures, and met so many wonderful people along their journeys. Having a keen interest and talent with knitting and crocheting she produced hundreds of hats, gloves, scarves, intricate shawls, quilts, felted woolen accessories and some beautiful Swedish weaving.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years Robert “Bob” Hyde; stepchildren Sheldon Hyde, Sheila Hyde, and Karla Hyde; as well as their half-brother Forrest Malesky; her former husband Richard Hinman; nieces Susan Hanson and husband Roger, Lisa Northup and husband Billy; nephews Mark Lapointe and wife Dotty, Kenny Lapointe and wife Linda and Danny Salimone; and many cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents Charles Hodgdon and Ruth Stoodley Hodgdon; sisters Vivian Salimone and husband Tony, Shirley Lapointe and husband Francis, cousin she met later in life Sheldon Kilkenny and wife Kathy as well as a cousin from childhood James McLaughlin who was taken from her too early in Vietnam.

Charlene requested that there be no service except at graveside in the spring.

Please, if you wish to donate in memory of this wonderful lady, donations to the Madison People Who Care Food Cupboard and the Somerset Animal Shelter would be much appreciated
