ALLEN R. BRACKETT

Allen Robert Brackett, born on July 14, 1924, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022. Allen, the eldest son of Herman and Frances (Allen) Brackett was born in Medford, Massachusetts. Allen was married to Margurite Jones Brackett, daughter of Merle and Doris Jones, lifelong residents of Weeks Mills.

Allen lived a life defined by his curiosity and intellect. He spent much of his youth in Casco. He was a ‘Mainer’ through and through, always humble, polite, hard working, and respectful of others and the environment he enjoyed so much.

He is a World War II veteran, being drafted after graduation from Casco High School. Upon entry, he was tested and spent his first years in service at the University of North Dakota to study engineering. He was always a bit regretful for not immediately going to the front as so many others did. In November 1944, Allen was eventually sent to join the newly-formed 66th Infantry Division headed to England, then Northern France. Five months after Allen’s arrival in Europe, in May 1945, the Germans surrendered and most Allied Forces draftees were sent home. Allen remained stationed in Austria and France, assisting in the peaceful reconstruction of Europe, returning home with an honorable discharge later that year.

Allen took advantage of the GI Bill to attend the University of Maine at Orono, graduating in 1950 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He maintained a love for UMaine’s School of Engineering throughout his life, always following new developments in the news. He donated to the Engineering School after nearly every request.

Allen met his sweetheart, Marguerite Jones, at UMO and they married in 1951. They recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary. Allen moved his new family to Kittery to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the Engineering Design Division until his retirement in 1979.

Allen was a Past Master of Naval Lodge #184 AF&AM. He was also a Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Shriners. His friends and fellow masons invariably commented on his remarkable abilities in ceremony and degree work. He was often called upon to lead or take a part in a ritual around the state of Maine.

The loves of his life, his lovely partner and wife Marguerite, daughter Allane and son Russ, were constant sources of joy. He never missed a chance to listen, help in an endeavor, or educate in complex sciences of engineering or astronomy. If one wanted to understand black holes or the theory of relativity, Allen was the man to talk with.

Allen was predeceased by his youngest brother Weldon.

He is survived by his wife Marguerite; daughter Allane Ball and husband Steve; son Russell Brackett and wife Linda and their extended family; grandsons Benjamin Ball and wife Alison, and Jonathan Ball; great-grandchildren Briana, Elijah, Jacob and Alyssa; great-great-grandchild Graham “Chip” McKinney; brother Malcolm Brackett; sister-in-law Lida; several nieces and a nephew.

EVELYN ASHTON

VASSALBORO – Evelyn Ashton, 90, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2022, in her family home of 58 years, in Vassalboro. She was born on May 17, 1932, to Elizabeth (Scott) and Thomas Graham, in East York, Toronto, Canada.

Evelyn had three older sisters: Margaret, Lillian and Patricia; an older brother, Tommy and a younger sister, Ruth.

She attended schools in East York, Toronto, Canada and graduated from Jarvis Collegiate High School and Emmaus Bible School, with honors. While at Emmaus, she met James Ashton, from New Jersey, and they married on June 25, 1955. They set up house in an apartment in Beverly, Massachusetts, and then moved to South Hamilton, Massachusetts, while Jim finished college in 1958. Evelyn worked for CBS Hytron until their first child, Elizabeth, was born. They came to Livermore in 1958 and during their years there, Evelyn did some substitute teaching. After a move to Vassalboro, and following the birth of their sixth child in 1964, she continued substitute teaching.

Evelyn had a full-time job in the Waterville school system, first as a reading tutor, then as a secretary to the special education director at the high school. Evelyn also worked part-time at the dental office of John Koons. Evelyn finished out her career in the school system as a library aide at George Mitchell School. She then volunteered at the Vassalboro Food Station Pantry. Throughout these years, Evelyn met so many good people, some of whom became lifelong friends.

Her best, and most fulfilling work, was raising her children and helping them in so many ways, as they grew up to adulthood. Evelyn and Jim took their children camping for many years. Evelyn did much of the preparation for these trips, whether long or short: The Maritime Provinces, Ontario, Québec, and The Great Smokey Mountains, and, of course, many Maine trips.

After the children were out of the nest, Ev and Jim made trips to Colorado, Arizona, and California; to the cities of San Francisco, Seattle and New Orleans. They went to the United Kingdom twice. Ev managed a third trip there with her sister Ruth. Evelyn and Jim, with Ruth and Curt, made trips to Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, the Gaspé of Québec and Northern Ontario.

Evelyn also enjoyed knitting, rug braiding, wreath making and tending to her many beautiful flower gardens. She was also an avid reader. She was a very practical person, which helped immensely during the early years of raising a family.

Evelyn enjoyed visits to the coast, especially trips to many of the beautiful and historic sites of Maine.

Evelyn was predeceased by her daughter, Elizabeth Ashton.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, James, recently celebrating their 67th wedding anniversary; her son, Jonathan and his son Zach; her daughter, Karen Ashton and husband Michael Sullivan, and her children William, Meghan, Nicholas and Lyndsey; her daughter, Katherine and husband Douglas Houghton, and their daughter, Karly; her daughter, Judith and husband Louis Harle and their children Christopher, Jennifer and Colin; and her daughter, Paula Ashton and husband John Lewandowski and their children Ruth and Walter; as well as great-grandchildren, Will and Oscar.

A memorial service will held on Saturday, August 20, at 2 p.m., at the family home, in North Vassalboro.

JANICE M. WOODWORTH

WHITEFIELD – Janice Marie Woodworth, 83, passed away Tuesday July 19, 2022, at Augusta Center for Health and Rehabilitation, following more than two years battling heart and kidney disease. Janice was born on May 20, 1939, in Palermo,

Janice was able to share wonderful memories and funny stories with family and close friends the weeks prior to her passing.

Janice loved spending time with her family and friends, shopping, going out to eat, or just watching a Red Sox game on TV. She took a Caribbean cruise with the girls, (Donna, Robin, Kim, Debbie, Zina, Katherine, and Robby) before she became ill; she had the best time hanging with the girls on the ship and on the beach.

Janice was an amazing mother and never stopped being a mom even after her children grew up and moved out to start their own lives; she was always looking out for them. She also loved her husband Philip Woodworth even though she had been known to play some pretty epic practical jokes on him over the years. She loved being a grandmother, and was lucky to have several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She graduated high school by attending night classes while raising her family. Janice and her husband owned and operated a small country store in Washington for many years. After that she worked different jobs before retiring from Maine Veterans Home, in Augusta.

Janice was predeceased by her parents Wallace and Florence Curtis; and her brothers Lloyd, and Floyd (twins that died a birth), Cleveland Curtis, Duane Curtis, and John Curtis (her twin brother).

Janice is survived by her husband, Philip Woodworth; her daughter, Donna Woodworth and her husband David Bottom, and David’s children, Thomas Bottom and Mary Bottom and her husband Adam Mills, and their son Timothy Mills; her son, Michael Woodworth, and his son Dustin Woodworth and his wife Audrey Woodworth and their son, Corey Woodworth; her son, David Woodworth and his partner Robin Shaw, and David’s daughter, Brittany Leonard and her husband, Thomas Leonard, and their three sons TJ Leonard, and Blaine and Blaze Leonard (twins); her son, Brian Woodworth and his son, Jarrett Woodworth, and daughter Kristen Woodworth, her partner Demetrius Miller, and her sons Jaheim Miller and Xavion Woodworth; her brother, Warren Curtis; and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.

Janice, a.k.a. “the life of the party”, had a full life filled with much joy and laughter knowing that she was loved.

There will be no funeral at her request, instead, a celebration of life with a date to be determined.

ORMAN W. WHEELER

FAIRFIELD – Orman W. Wheeler, 96, of Fairfield, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Oak Grove Center, in Waterville. Orman “Jim” Wheeler was born April 7, 1926, the son of Frank C. Wheeler and Alma (Damren) Wheeler.

He attended schools in Fairfield.

Orman “Jim” entered into active military service on June 24, 1944. He served in World War II a PUT.C.E., in Co. 1285th Engineer Construction Battalion. He received in action, EAME campaign medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.

Orman “Jim” was a master mechanic by trade. He also enjoyed driving truck and had worked at many companies over the years. His biggest accomplishment was building/owning Shady Acres Trailer Park. He and his wife, Hilda, owned and operated the park for many years together. Anyone who knew “Jim”, knew he was a “jack of all trades”!

Orman “Jim” had many interests and hobbies. One of the things he loved most was traveling with his family. He and his family took many camping trips over the years. One of the most memorable would be the trip to California in a truck-camper!

Orman “Jim” was also known for his passion for John Deere tractors. He was very knowledgeable about all tractors. He enjoyed rebuilding, painting, selling, and trading them. Everyone in town knew if they had a question in regards to a tractor, to ask “Jim”!

Orman “Jim” was predeceased by his parents, Frank C. Wheeler, and Alma D. Wheeler; his two brothers and sister; and his wife of 66 years, Hildred E. (Jones) Wheeler.

Orman “Jim” is survived by his only daughter, Tonia M. Wentworth, of Fairfield; son-in-law John E. Wentworth II, of Fairfield; his two granddaughters, Kaylee M. and Saydee M. Wentworth,, both of Fairfield; many relatives too many to list.

PERRY E. MOSHER

WATERVILLE – Perry E. Mosher, 89, passed away peacefully at Avita Memory Care, in Brunswick, on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. He was born in Waterville on June 10, 1933, the son of Benjamin and Doris (Main) Mosher.

He graduated from Waterville High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a salesman for Ladd Paper Company until their closing, than went on to sell cars for Joseph Motor Company, both in Waterville, for a few years but decided to go back to selling on the road which he always enjoyed, and worked for Sysco until his retirement.

He was a member of the Waterville Methodist Church. Perry and Marilyn loved spending summers at their camp on Salmon Lake, in Oakland, with their children and many of their relatives along the same shoreline. He loved to fix cars in his free time and in later years was very passionate about antique clock repair / restoration. He also liked going to some of the local auctions.

He was predeceased by his parents Benjamin and Doris Mosher; his wife of 49 years, Marilyn (Ladd) Mosher; and his sister, Judith (Mosher) Varney.

He is survived by his sons Leslie Mosher and Scott Mosher; his daughter, Lisa Healy and her husband John, and his daughter, Lori Smith and her husband John; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

RICHARD L. CUMMINGS

WHITEFIELD – Richard L. Cummings, 77, passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 21, 2022. He was born on May 25, 1945, in Ellsworth.

After spending his childhood years with his grandmother, Florence Guptill, in Ellsworth, he moved to Chelsea and graduated from Cony High School, in Augusta, in 1963. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves in 1963 from which he was honorably discharged in 1969. He was a CLP logger and marine blood worm digger during his working years.

Richard enjoyed deer hunting, trout fishing, stock car racing, men’s softball, and horse racing. He was happiest when working on his son Todd’s stock car or being part of a good deer drive with family and friends. Many deer found their way into elderly friend’s cellars to help them through the winter.

He was predeceased by his grandmother; his parents Alexander and Dora Cummings; his brothers Bob and Alex; and grandson, Ryan Mullens.

He is survived by his partner of 24 years, Laurie Mullens; his sons Rick and partner Laurie Brann, of Whitefield, and Todd and his wife Greta, of Whitefield; his partner’s sons Wayne Mullens and partner Shannon Baron, of Whitefield, and Derek Mullens and wife Kelley, of Windsor; his grandchildren Logan and wife Kaitie, Jacob and partner Carmen, Caleb, and Sydney; and great-granddaughters Mackenzie and Harper; his partner’s grandchildren Jordon and her husband Ben, Thomas and Brylee, and great-grandson Crew; siblings Donald, Dennis and his wife Jerri, Margaret Allen and her husband Bernie, Cathy Trask and her husband Dan and sister-in-law, Donna Cummings; many nieces, nephews, cousins.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at the Coopers Mills Cemetery (a.k.a. Howe Cemetery), in Whitefield, at a later date.

CURTIS P. HYMEL

FAIRFIELD – Curtis “Curt” Paul Hymel, 75, of Fairfield, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 23, 2022. He was born in Vacherie, Louisiana, on May 25, 1947, to parents Donald J. and Marjorie R. Hymel (Simon).

Curt honorably served in the United States Navy as a Seabee, and was stationed in Vietnam, Cuba, and Rhode Island. Curt was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Curt enjoyed the outdoors, playing sports, fishing and hunting with friends, gardening, and watching the local wildlife with Dakota. He prided himself on his Cajun cooking, making homemade hot sauce, and teaching his children (and grandchildren) how to make a proper roux.

He was predeceased by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Tupper Hymel; and his children Janine Lairmore and husband Michael, Julia Burlette and husband Jeff, and Curtis Grenier; eight grandchildren, Caitlyn, Connor, Ryan, Charlotte, Maxwell, Josephine, Samuel, and Benjamin; his four younger sisters, Nadine Delatte (Larry), Pamela Zeringue, Marie Dufresne (Jun) and Jeanne Landry (Lloyd); and more nieces, nephews, cousins.

Graveside services with military honors was held at Tozier Cemetery, in Fairfield, on Saturday, July 30.

JENNIFER L. MORROW

WHITEFIELD – Jennifer Lynn Wilson Morrow, 38, wife to Ryan and mother to Blake and Keegan, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022. She was born in Augusta on October 15, 1983.

Jenn was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer after the birth of her second child. Despite the challenges she faced with this diagnosis, she was always positive and optimistic. She fought bravely to just have one more day with her family. #stage4needsmore was not only found on every social media post of her journey, but also her mission to spread awareness in hopes to help others in the future. In October 2019, Jenn had the privilege of being the Grand Marshal for the Walk for Hope, where she proudly wore the banner that supports all the work the Alfond Center provides to cancer patients.

Jenn grew up in Chelsea attending Chelsea School and graduating from Cony High School, in Augusta, in 2002. This is where she met lifelong friends “the Goldies”; Dostie, Angela, Sarah and Katie. They were with Jenn in her final days providing care and reflecting on precious times together. Many fond memories which always had lots of laughter, including a trip to Acadia and frequent breakfast dates, where Jenn would always say “Just take the damn picture”. Jenn had a very special bond with dear friend, Beth Sproul-LeBrun after many years working together. Beth was there to help Jenn have a peaceful journey and fulfilled the promise of all Jenn’s final wishes. The family will forever be grateful for the kindness and care Beth helped provide during these difficult days.

Jenn graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She loved her role as “Ms. Jenn” working with the children from SKCDC – most recently Lake Region Center, City of Augusta Childcare Kindercamp and her involvement with Whitefield Elementary School. Jenn was a gifted teacher who truly was built for the teaching profession, as she helped shape hundreds of children educationally and was a role model to many. Jenn had a special place in her heart for many co-workers, who also became dear friends.

Family was everything to Jenn and even though Rose was her mother, they were also best friends, spending as much time together as they could and loving deeply as each day passed. Weekends spent with her mom and sister, Amanda, were also a favorite – especially the trips to Dunkin’ or Starbucks along with Target and TJMaxx adventures together. Rose and Amanda were by Jenn’s side nonstop as she slowly faded from us, reminding her how amazing she was. Although Amanda was her older sister, Jenn provided constant guidance and reassurance to Amanda and was her number one supporter during the journey of motherhood and life. A bond between sisters that was so strong and will be missed immensely. Jenn loved watching her father, Cliff, be the best Papa to her boys and cherished the bond that they share.

Jenn tragically lost her brother, Joshua Wilson, in a car accident in 2007. She reminded her boys that Uncle Josh was watching over them and she would soon be with Uncle Josh to watch over all of us.

Jenn leaves behind her husband, Ryan, who she loved with all her heart. In August 2010 she wed Ryan at Saddleback Mountain, in Rangeley, and soon grew their beautifully family together with their sons and black labs, Owen and Max. She is forever grateful to Ryan for making her a wife and mother. Ryan taught her how a person should be loved as he never left her side during her battle with cancer. Ryan spent the final days holding her, loving on her and ensuring her final moments were filled with laughter and love.

Jenn’s legacy lives on within her two sons, Blake (11) and Keegan (3). Family time sharing laughs over dinner, daily walks with the boys, disc golfing or time spent “upta camp” with “her boys” were such cherished moments for her. Jenn was the most patient and supportive Mumma to her sons and told them constantly “Love you to the Moon and Back a million times, Buddy”. Blake helped care for his mother at home her final week, bringing her favorite dill pickles, Dostie’s cookies and reminding his Mom how much she was loved.

Surviving Jennifer also are her parents, Cliff and Rose Wilson, of Chelsea; sister, Amanda Wilson-Gray and brother-in-law, Justin Gray, of Gray; a nephew, Kai Gray; her paternal grandmother, Jane Wilson, of Augusta; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

RICHARD D. ROY

WINSLOW – Richard D. Roy, 97, of Winslow, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25, 2022, at Maine Veterans Home, in Augusta. Richard was born to Alire and Leonie Roy, in Waterville, on November 15, 1924. He graduated from Waterville High School and attended one year at University of Maine College, in Brunswick, for mechanical engineering.

Richard married Jeannette Irene Brousseau on November 20, 1948. He worked for 40 years as a machinist at the Hollingsworth & Whitney Company, later known as Scott Paper Company, in Winslow.

Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. He was in Company C, 248th Engineer Combat Battalion. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the good conduct army victory medals, 4 Battle Stars European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign, Meritorious Service and American Theater Ribbons.

Richard loved carpentry work. He was very skilled and could make anything. He also enjoyed taking care of the yard, music, singing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was always happy, smiling and loved to have a good laugh, which was contagious. He was a loving husband and father.

Richard was predeceased by his parents Leonie and Alire Roy; a sister, Vernette Grenier, a brother, Alire Jr.; and granddaughter, Kayla Jessie Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannette, of 73 years, of the Maine Veterans Home, in Augusta; daughters Nancy J. Roy, of Cummings, Georgia; and her daughter Tammy Kennedy; Doreen A. Roy, of Winslow, Lisa M. Silva and husband Joseph T. Silva, of Fayette; two sons, David R. Roy and wife Cathie Roy, of Meridianville, Alabama, and Brian M. Roy, of Portland; grandchildren Travis Bickford and wife Lily Baker, Heather Bickford, Kaitlin Bickford, Melissa A. Hayden and husband Ryan Hayden, Kyle F. Brown, Christopher D. Brown; and great-grandchildren Gavyn and Emma Hayden, Winter Merkens and Brooks Schroeder.

At his request, there will be no visiting hours. A private graveside service will be held.

JANICE P. BRADBURY

WATERVILLE – Janice Pearl Bradbury, 89, of Waterville, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2022. She was born November 24, 1932, in Rumford, the daughter of Lester Eugene Bradbury and Pauline Bradbury (Coolidge). Janice moved to Waterville at the age of five, where she lived the remainder of her life on Elmwood Avenue, with her aunt Pearl Loud and uncle Johnny, who raised her as their own. She attended Waterville schools and graduated from Thomas College, in Waterville, with a degree in business.

Her love and passion for animals lead her to a lifetime of service, rescuing animals. She loved life to the fullest. She loved to dance, go on adventures, and everything about the outdoors. The eldest of six girls, Janice took every opportunity to be with family and friends. Her nieces and nephews, who lovingly referred to her as “Aunty Jan”, meant the world to her.

Janice was an active and beloved member of her Jehovah’s Witness congregation from the age of 18, attending the Waterville Kingdom Hall. Using her degree, Janice worked bookkeeping jobs throughout her life and retired from the office of Woodlands Senior Living, in Waterville, at the age of 85.

She was predeceased by her parents Lester Eugene Bradbury and Pauline Bradbury (Coolidge); her aunt, Mina Pearl Loud; and her sister, Shirley Petrie.

Janice is survived by her sisters Christine Currier, of Florida, Dianne Sisneros, of Colorado, Roxanne Sisneros, of Iowa, Karen Heath, of Waterville; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 6, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield.

CHARLES ABBOTT

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado – Charles Abbott, 74, died on Monday, June 25, 2022, in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was born in Waterville on February 11, 1948, to Carroll and Kathryn Abbott.

He graduated from Waterville High School, class of 1966.

With degrees from Colby College, in Waterville, and Columbia University, in New York, Charlie acquired fluency in music, Russian and Chinese. His professional life soon centered around photography and he became staff photographer for the Aspen Music Festival, out of which came his book, Reflections in Music.

In Aspen, Colorado, he cofounded Digital Arts Aspen, from where he pursued other projects, including many trips to the Dostoevsky Museum, in Russia.

For several years he conducted interviews on local public radio with visiting scientists, philosophers and metaphysicians in Aspen, Colorado. He is remembered by many for his generosity and ready laugh.

JAY SMITH

WATERVILLE – Jay Smith, of Hartland and Waterville, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2022. Jay was born the youngest of six on June 15, 1965, to Margaret Foley Smith and Virgil Smith in Perth Amboy, New Jersey.

Jay attended Perth Amboy High School, where he began and continued many lifelong friendships. Upon moving away from his hometown, he invested in a career of painting and maintenance in Florida, where he also met his wife, Nancy.

After getting married and having a daughter, Madelyn, the young family settled in Maine. He started his own painting business, Evenflow Painting, and picked up a habit of buying fixer-uppers to live in and renovate with his wife and daughter.

In recent years, he’s worked as maintenance staff and a supervisor with employers such as Sugarloaf Mountain and the Carrabec school system. He enjoyed his time at home, playing pool, and finding the best food trucks.

Throughout his life, Jay made die-hard friendships and had a positive impact on the lives of many people, including the students he passed in the halls at work. To say the least, he left a hole in the lives of many and will be loved and missed by those who knew him.

He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings Carol Fell, Bruce Smith, and Joanne Tomczyk.

He is survived by his daughter, Madelyn Smith; and his wife, Nancy Rivers Smith; as well as two of his sisters, Patti Pukas, Terri Puleo; his brother-in-law, George Puleo; and many nieces and nephews.

TIMOTHY R. GREEN

VASSALBORO – Timothy Robert Green, 41, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022. He was born on January 23, 1981, the son of Robert and Lynn Green.

Timothy graduated from LaSalle Military Academy, Oakdale, New York, class of 1999. He attended Fordham University from 1999 to 2000 where he was a member of Pershing Rifles and was honored to meet General Jack Keane.

In 2000, he enlisted into the United States Army, and served as member of the 101st Airborne Division, 1st of the 502, Delta Company, Infantry.

He deployed to Iraq in 2004 through 2005. In 2008, Timothy was discharged from the Army, and received the following commendations: Army Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Bar, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Parachutist Badge.

In 2011, Timothy graduated from Wesleyan University College of Social Studies, with a multi-disciplinary degree in History, Government, Political and Social Theory, and Economics.

He was employed by the Veterans Administration, in San Francisco, California, and later at the Maine Department of Motor Vehicles as a project manager.

Timothy was loved by many for his engaging smile, outgoing personality, and dedication to fellow veterans. He gave guidance and unwavering support to his fellow veterans in their time of crisis and helped others obtain benefits. Timothy will be missed by all who loved him, and there are many.

He is survived by his wife Megan Green; parents Robert and Lynn Green, of Plymouth Massachusetts; his sisters Jennifer and spouse David Lachina, of Putnam, Connecticut, and Amy and spouse Justin Holwell, of Princeton, Massachusetts; niece Kate Holwell, and nephews Aidan Pesce, Riley Holwell and Finn Holwell.

Timothy’s funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 22, in St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 803 State Rd., Plymouth, Massachusetts, at 10 a.m.

Interment with military honors will follow in Manomet Cemetery, Plymouth, Mass.

WATERVILLE – Claire Helen Mailloux Dutil, 87, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022. She was born on Sunday, May 12, 1935, in Waterville, to Henry and Anne Marie (Pelletier) Maillioux.

Claire graduated from Waterville Senior High School in 1953. She was a beautiful lady with a wonderful laugh and a beautiful smile. Her fortitude, strength, and perseverance were immense. She was kind, generous, non-demanding and had immeasurable strength throughout her whole life right up until the end.

On May 12, 1956, Claire married Joseph “Bob” Dutil, of Winslow. Their first child Cindy was born with cerebral palsy, and this began Claire’s unique journey of love, strength, and fortitude. She cared for Cindy in her home for 47 years. Their son Brian was born six years later. The family spent summers on Pattee Pond, in Winslow. Claire was involved in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and football boosters and she canned vegetables from their garden each year.

In 1986, Claire’s dream of becoming a “Mémère,” began. When Claire’s three grandchildren were young, she often cared and cooked for them while their parents worked. She loved to sew and knit. Her favorite things to bake were molasses cookies and whoopie pies which her family loved. She put her heart into every dish she made, and you could guarantee to never leave her table hungry. Her grandkids remember great hugs and kisses. Her husband Bob died in 2019, just 11 days after their 64th anniversary.

Claire is survived by her daughter Cindy Dutil, of Oakland; son Brian and wife Linda (Clark) Dutil, of Waterville; grandsons Nicholas and wife Katie (London) Dutil, of Sidney, Jeffrey and wife Savanna (Dickey) Dutil, of Winslow; granddaughter Kathryn (Dutil) and husband Thomas Hersom, of Winslow; and her four great-grandchildren. Tessa Dutil, Jocelyn “Jocie” Hersom, Isabelle “Belle” Hersom, and Arlo Dutil; her sister Theresa and husband David Roy, of Oakland; her brothers-in-law John and wife Lorraine Dutil, of Winslow, Hartley “Buzz’ Fernald, of Winslow; and sister-in-law Therese Dutil of Fairfield.

Claire was predeceased by her parents; her husband Joseph “Bob”, her sister Collette and husband Joseph “Larry” Theriault, sister-in-law Patricia (Dutil) Fernald, brother-in-law’s Danny “Chi Chi” Dutil, and Louis “Pete” and wife Evelyn.

Per Claire’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral. A private graveside committal with immediate family will take place later this summer.

VASSALBORO – Raymond F. Dyer, 78, of Vassalboro, passed away Friday, July 8, 2022. He was born March 29, 1944, in Waterville the son of Ralph B. and Adah L. (Riley) Dyer.

He worked for Maingas for 35-1/2 years delivering propane all over the state of Maine. He enjoyed being with people and loved cooking suppers at the Second Baptist Church, in Waterville. Then he moved on to Shawmut Chapel where he become a member where he was called home.

He is survived by his wife Lois Dyer; his children Michael and fiancée Lana, of Louisiana, and his daughter Amy Meschke and husband Michael, of Ohio; his stepson Cory Young and wife Lisa, of Pittston; grandchildren Joshua, Emily, Sara, Curtis, Benjamin, Tavia, Victorianna; and many great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Adah Dyer; sister Martha Winzler and brother Thomas Dyer.

There will be no funeral services. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

VASSALBORO – Ronald Joseph Gilbert, 72, passed away on Sundzy, July 10, 2022. Ronald was born in Waterville on September 8, 1949, the son of Napoleon P. Gilbert and Cecilia (Gallant) Gilbert.

He graduated from Waterville High School class of 1967. Ron graduated from Husson College, in Bangor, in 1971, with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He graduated from Thomas College, in Waterville, in 1981, with a master’s degree in accounting and finance. In his professional career, he was a Certified Public Accountant.

He worked as administrative director of WMCA 1986-1990. He also owned and operated Gilbert’s Sports Cards, in Waterville, and Wilton. Ron was also business manager in the CDS system from 1997-2007. He finished his professional career as business manager at MSAD #12, retiring in 2008.

Ron’s hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, karaoke, and collecting sports memorabilia.

Ron was predeceased by his parents Napoleon P. and Cecilia Gilbert, and stepmother Ida Gilbert, as well as sisters Margaret Brockway and Ruth Gross.

He is survived by his wife Debbie Warren; brother J. Peter Gilbert, of Waterville; nephews Keith Brockway, of Albion, Daniel Brockway, of China, Matthew Gilbert, of South Portland, and Andrew Gilbert, of Searsport; nieces Kristie Davis, of Marshal, Minnesota, Mary Lambert, of Waldoboro, and Tina Shaw, of Buxton; many great-nieces and -nephews.

MARK T. HOSEA

OCALA, Flaorida – Mark Tingley Hosea, 91, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Cates House Hospice of Marion County. He was born in Robbinston, on March 28, 1931, the son of Frank and Anna (Ayer) Hosea.

The family moved to Waterville when he was 12 years old and attended Calvary Temple Church. From a young age, Mark was a talented vocalist with a passion for music. He used this gift at music festivals across Eastern Maine as a soloist, as part of a young men’s quartet, and later as a worship and song leader in church.

Mark met the love of his life, Madolyn Enid (Closson) Hosea, at Advent Christian Church, in Waterville. The two married on August 6, 1955, and became the proud parents of four children, Rhonda, Marcia, Mary and Joel. Together, Mark and Madolyn built a life rooted in Christ’s love and God’s Holy Word, restoring an old mansion in North Vassalboro, called the White Haven, that they turned into a boarding house for seniors. The home was filled with love, music, laughter — and precisely the kind of mischief one would expect with four children.

Mark is survived by his wife, Madolyn, of Ocala, with whom he would have celebrated 67 years of marriage this year; his children, Rhonda Drusendahl, Marcia Stevens, Mary Box and Joel Hosea, of Ocala; his sister Sandra (Hosea) Charity, of Ocala; six grandchildren, Robby Cray, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Rachael Phelps, of Wilmington, North Carolina, Jarrod Stevens and Shane Stevens, both of Dover-Foxcroft, Jenna Box Sarkissian, of Tallahassee, Florida, and Mason Box, of Ocala; 14 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

A service for Mark was held Wednesday, July 20, at the Roberts Funeral Homes Cemetery, Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens, at 5050 SW 20th St., in Ocala, Florida.

WINSLOW – William John Moores, 93, of Winslow, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 11, 2022.

Bill was a proud military veteran and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, hunting with his son, and spending time with his wife, Sylvia Jackson.

For many years, Bill shared his knowledge of cars as an instructor in the auto mechanics program at Waterville Regional Technical Vocational Center. He had an intense love of animals, especially for the many dogs and cats that were part of his family over the years.

Bill will be missed by his loved ones and especially by his son, Stephen, and granddaughters, Libbey Moores-Gallant and Angela Wyrick.

Per Bill’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held.

GERALDINE KING

FAIRFIELD – Geraldine “Gerri” (Toulouse) King, 97, died Tuesday, July 12, 2022, following a short stay at Lakewood Nursing Home, in Waterville. She had previously resided at Sunset Home, in Waterville, and for most of her life in Fairfield.

Gerri was born on February 6, 1925, in Oakland, the daughter of George and Leah Boudreau Toulouse. She was born during a cold snowstorm on a couch in a living room near a wood stove. She loved East Pond where she and her two sisters grew up.

She was educated in Oakland schools, a graduate of Milton LaForrest Williams High School, in Oakland, and Thomas College, in Waterville, in 1944, then located on Main Street, in Waterville. She had founder, Mr. Thomas, as her teacher. She married long time Fairfield resident Allie W. King, Jr., in 1952, at Sacred Heart Church, in Waterville.

Her first job was at the American Woolen Mill, (Kennebec Mills), in Fairfield. She worked there until the mill was sold and purchased by Mr. R.J. Fromkin, from New York. The mill was eventually moved to the old cotton mill, in Waterville, until it closed. After 24 years as office manager, she temporarily retired and stayed home to take care of Allie III until he entered seventh grade at junior high, in Fairfield. Gerri then worked at the school as administrative assistant to the principal, Richard Dostie, until she retired from SAD #49 in 1986.

Upon retirement, Gerri and her husband Allie Jr., spent five winters in Florida in the New Port Richey area with friends and family. Eventually the Florida trips ended, and her husband of 50 years passed away. Gerri then focused on extensive charitable work to occupy her time. She loved to volunteer at the Fairfield Interfaith Food Pantry. She loved fundraising for the new pantry. She loved to knit and made 50 pairs of mittens, 50 hats and 26 shawls every year for 18 years for needy children of the pantry and Catholic Charities.

She volunteered at the Lawrence Library for several years as well as at the MaineGeneral Medical Center Lab, in Waterville, for four years. She was on the board of Sunset Home, in Waterville, for three years. She also assisted Catholic Charities, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Corpus Christi Parish, and the Fairfield Chapter of the Knights of Columbus. She coordinated the publishing of three cookbooks, raising funds for Immaculate Heart of Mary, Knights of Columbus, and Sunset Home. Gerri loved people and helping those that needed help. She lived her life based upon the quote by Arthur Ashe: “From what we get we can make a living, what we give we can make a life.”

She was predeceased by two sisters, Lucille Longely, of Fairfield, and Retha Duquette, of Waterville.

She is survived by a son, Allie W. King, III, of Westport, Connecticut; a sister-in-law, Linda Allard, of Freeport; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, July 20, at 10 a.m., at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 116 Silver St., Waterville. Committal services with the family will be at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, in Waterville.

ALBION – Mary Lou Nelson Noyes, 87, passed away at her home, in Albion, on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. She was born in Palermo to Manley and Barbara Worthing Nelson on November 3, 1934.

Mary Lou graduated from Erskine Academy, in South China, in 1954 and married Keith Noyes in October of the same year. This is when she moved to the farm house in Albion and started her life as lifelong homemaker and co-owner of The Noyes Farm. She was an excellent cook, very generous and enjoyed feeding family and friends for many years.

Mary Lou served as a PTA volunteer in the Albion Elementary school, was a former member of the Albion Fire Department Auxiliary, enjoyed participating in many ladies bowling leagues and was a lifelong member of TOPS. She had also been active as a member of the Palermo Grange, Palermo Historical Society and Albion Senior Citizens.

She enjoyed traveling and visited family all over the country and Canada.

Those who knew Mary Lou knew of her lifelong love of the Boston Red Sox. For over 17 years, she, her sister Linda, and several friends would travel to Boston each year and attend a 3 – 4 game series. Dwight Evans was her all time favorite player. Mary Lou also enjoyed watching the Boston Celtics. Of course, her love of sports was not just professional. Mary Lou was a huge supporter of her children and grandchildren attending many, many of their sporting events (gymnastics, baseball, football, basketball, softball, track and soccer).

Mary Lou was predeceased by her husband Keith, her parents, sister Linda Ayer, brother Douglas Nelson, and nephew Nelson Ayer.

She is survived by daughter Karen Noyes Moody; son Chuck and wife Deborah; daughter Julie and partner James McCarthy; sons Cameron and partner Kathleen Golden, and Andrew and wife Denise Fisher; grandchildren Bethany, Stephanie, Holly, Keith, Evan, Meredith, Greta, Travis, Kadie, Bean, Darcie and Cassandra; great-grandchildren Trinity, Harmony, Kaysin, Wesley, Addison, Elliotte, Riley, Tayler, Booker, Eli and Gabe.

A graveside service is planned for Friday, July 29, at 1 p.m., at the Lincoln Cemetery at the end of the Noyes Road, in Albion. A reception will follow at the China Masonic Hall Central Lodge #45, in China Village, from 1:30 – 3 p.m.

JEFFREY B. SUGDEN

CHINA – Jeffrey B. Sugden, 72, died on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, from pancreatic cancer. Jeff was born July 17, 1949, in Boston, Massachusetts, to John Frederick and Ruth (Bryant) Sugden, the second of four boys.

He was raised in Weston, Massachusetts, and graduated from Weston High School, where he was a standout in football and played hockey. After a post-grad year at Worcester Academy, he started working for his grandfather’s electrical company in Boston and went through the IBEW apprenticeship program at night. He lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts. enjoying the music and excitement of the late ‘60s. He also enlisted in the Naval Reserves at that time. There he met his first wife, Margaret Hayes, and they married and had three daughters. In 1972, wanting to be back-to-the-landers, they moved to Mercer, renovated an old house, and raised vegetables, rabbits, and their daughters in the country.

At that time, Jeff did electrical work throughout Maine. In 1979, Jeff and Margi divorced, and he moved to Skowhegan for a year, and then back to Boston where he worked on building the Bank of Boston and other downtown buildings.

During those years, Jeff would come back to Maine to care for his daughters, and in 1982, he moved to Waterville so he could be a hands-on Dad, and the girls lived with him every other week. It was then he met his cherished wife, Valerie, in their apartments’ parking lot after an April blizzard. They enjoyed 40 years together. They were an exceptional team, moving to China, where they had two sons, and raised their five children in a camp counselor’s dormitory that they renovated into a house on eight acres. They also bought and re-built a camp on China Lake that the whole family enjoyed. During that time, Jeff worked at Colby College, in Waterville, as an electrician and later electrical supervisor but decided at the age of 50 to launch his own electrical business, which was very successful. He greatly enjoyed bringing his son, Jon, and grandson along in the business.

Jeff worked hard at everything and enjoyed his success with buying a lot of boats, camping equipment, and campers. He had many exciting snowmobiling and ice fishing trips with his fishing friends. Jeff and Val loved fishing at Rangely, traveling to Florida, and camping at Baxter State Park. They also had a wonderful trip on the Queen Mary 2 to England, where he ate and drank his way around the country. Jeff loved his life and his family and was so very proud of all his children and grandchildren, their character and accomplishments.

His children will forever be grateful for his unwavering support and love.

Jeff was a natural leader who loved helping others. Gifted with a great sense of humor, Jeff could deliver a punchline with panache. He was loyal, kind, stubborn, and a phenomenal problem solver. He will be missed beyond measure by his family.

Jeff is survived by his wife of 39 years, Valerie; his daughters Eliza (Jim) Baldwin, of Hampden, Sarah (Matthew) Sugden, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Rebecca Sugden, of Vassalboro, David (Kait) Sugden, of Industry, and Jon (Marie) Sugden, of China; his grandchildren Owen and Ruby Mathias, Jack and Madeline Hankey, James and Oliver Sugden, and Penelope and Otto Sugden; brothers James Sugden, of Chicago, Illinois, John Sugden, of Wellesley, Massachusetts. and Peter Sugden ,of Marstons Mills, Massachusetts; and great-aunt Jane Sugden, of W. Harwich, Massachusetts.

FRANKLIN C. FOLEY

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Franklin C. Foley, 67, of Newport News, Virginia, formerly of Fairfield, peacefully passed away at home, on Thursday, June 9, 2022. Frank was born March 23, 1955, in Fairfield, to Francis R. and Clarabell M. Foley.

Frank graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, later attending culinary school to become a chef, later retiring from Thayer Hospital, in Waterville, at age 35. Frank had a true passion for cooking, and sharing his recipes.

Frank adored the ocean, and especially walking along the breakwater in Rockland. Sunday nights were reserved for movie night with his family. Frank was quite the prankster and enjoyed sharing a good joke. Frank enjoyed traveling, having spent time in Africa, and the Philippines, where he met the love of his life, Jacky, and had the honor of adopting her son, Kenneth.

Frank was predeceased by his mother Clarabelle and father Francis; his brother Allen Foley; and infant grandson Nathan Blaschke.

Surviving Frank are his wife Jacky Foley; sisters Frances Dodge Foley and husband Charles, Patricia Loubier, and Shirley Foley; six children, daughter Ginny Foley-Paradis and wife Elicia, son Franklin John Foley, daughter Elizabeth Nickerson and husband Jason, daughter Brianne Blaschke and husband Mark, and sons William Foley, and Kenneth Foley; seven grandchildren, Dana Palmer Jr, Matilda Foley, Cara Blaschke, Jaxon Allison, Sebastian Foley-Paradis, Benjamin Blaschke, and his newest grandaughter Frankie Foley-Paradis.

MADELINE R. VIGUE

WINSLOW – Madeline R. Vigue, 97, of Winslow, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Lakewood Continuing Care, in Water­ville. She was born June 24, 1925, the daughter of Alexandre and Marie Bernard.

Madeline married the late Lionel J. Vigue on Nov 11, 1942, who passed on September 7, 1997.

Madeline was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, in Winslow. She served on the parish council and taught religious education at St. John Catholic School. She was also a CCD teacher. What she enjoyed the most was teaching the little children who would be making their First Holy Communion. She would bring communion to the sick and visited the shut-ins and praying the rosary with the elderly patients in nursing homes. She was a member of the Eucharistic Adoration Association, at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, in Waterville.

Madeline worked at the “Chi Rho Shoppe”, in Waterville, with her sister Cecile, who owned and operated the business.

She was predeceased by her parents Alexander and Marie; five sisters, Florentine, Cecile, Marie Ange, Laurette Kickham, and Gertrude Bernard, three brothers, Roy, Gerald and Victor Bernard; her husband Lionel of 55 years; son Lionel Paul Vigue; and granddaughter Susanne Marie Lavery.

GARY W. MOEN

HARTLAND – Gary William Moen, 63, of Hartland, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 18, 2022. One of three children of William and Jeannette (Beckwith) Moen, Gary was born in Morehead City, North Carolina, while his father was a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune.

After the family moved to Maine, he attended both Lawrence High School and Central Maine Technical College, both in Fairfield, where he trained to be a machinist and welder.

Gary spent almost 20 years in law enforcement, serving as a patrolman, detective, and sergeant in the Waterville, Fairfield, and Winslow police departments. He most recently was employed at Zimba Company, in Fairfield, as their safety director, implementing and supervising OSHA safety compliance for the company.

When he wasn’t traveling on work trips, you would find him eating breakfast at the Purple Cow or Flatlanders, both in Fairfield, dinner at You Know Whose Pub, in Waterville, or socializing with fellow members of the Elks Club, in Waterville. If he wasn’t there, he was in the woodshop working on a project, riding his motorcycle, or watching the sunset on his deck overlooking Morrill Pond.

Gary is survived by his brother and sister, Scott and Donna; three children, Luke, Nick, and Gus; 10 grandchildren.

OAKLAND – Noel “Joe” G. Bard, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital, in Pittsfield. He was born on December 21, 1935, in Fort Kent, to Alphie and Yvonne Bard.

Joe was one of 14 children. Joe was in the United States Army and enjoyed telling stories of his time in Germany driving an ambulance.

Noel enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, attending all of their sporting events, volunteering his time in their classrooms, and bringing them out for lunch or dinner. Joe loved spending time with his great-grandchildren and the family dog, Moxie.

Noel “Joe” was predeceased by his parents Alphie and Yvonne Bard; wife, E. Emeline Bard; son, Noel J. Bard “Joey”; and his loving dog, Zimmer.

Noel “Joe” is survived by his grandchildren Derek and Sheri Bard, of Oakland, whom he resided with, Zoey and Gary Hickey, of West Gardiner, and Anita Trepanier, of Ohio; five great-grandchildren, Lilian Hickey, Nolan Bard, Maddux Hickey, Kennedi Hickey, and Laney Bard; several nieces and nephews.

WATERVILLE – Patricia “Pat” Susan Daily, 81, passed away Friday, June 24, 2022, in Augusta. Pat was born in Burlington, Iowa, on November 16, 1940, the daughter of Richard Peavey and Ada Goode (Clark).

She attended Burlington High School and graduated in 1958.

Her work over the years included working as a secretary for an Iowa-based semi-conductor company, a journalist for the Sun Times, a doll maker, and a homemaker, raising her three children. She accepted Christ as her personal savior and devoted much of her life to working in ministry, specifically in women’s ministry, mentoring and conducting workshops at area churches.

Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed crafting, quilting, cooking, gardening, reading and home decorating with a special love for antiques.

She was predeceased by her parents, father-in-law, Michael Daily, mother-in-law, Florence Daily; her brother, Michael and her brother-in-law, Jack.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis “Denny”; stepmother, Geraldine Peavey; sisters Leah Karantza and husband, Steve, Deby McLain and husband, Tom; brother, Tommy; sons Daniel Daily and wife, Laurie, David Daily and wife, Wendy; and daughter, Denise Turner and husband, Jeff; grandchildren Kristen Daily, Trevor Daily, Kelsey Dorhout, Sydney Arsenault, Olivia Daily, Shaele Turner and Samuel Turner; great-grandchildren Eli and Liam Dorhout and Millie Arsenault.

VASSALBORO – Sylvia Taylor Bowman LeRoy, 85, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022, at home. Sylvia was born September 28, 1936, in Skowhegan, the daughter of Elmer Taylor and Esther Grace (Brown) Taylor Lowell.

She attended Augusta schools and graduated from Cony High School in 1954. She worked for the State of Maine for over 50 years, first in Human Resources and then Motor Vehicle until her retirement at age 62. After a short retirement, she went back to work in DHHS Human Resources until the age of 79.

She was an avid football fan and loved the New England Patriots, especially Tom Brady who she affectionately referred to as “Tommy”.

Her family is very grateful to all her friends that shared their friendship and love for her over the years.

She was predeceased by her grandson, Michael Beach.

She is survived by her daughter Cindy Beach and husband Howard, of Vassalboro; grandson Todd Beach and wife Deborah, of Manchester; two great-grandsons, Charlie Stein and Mark Beach, both of Manchester; sister-in-law Donna Bowman, of Fairfield; and many extended family.

CHELSEA – Laura Elaine Frost, 78, of Chelsea, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 2, 2022.

She was raised in Gardiner and was well known within the community. Laura was best known for her spunky personality, witty charm, and love for dancing on tables. Her strong work ethic and love for her customers was shown through her dedicated work at Lipman’s Chicken Factory, various shoe shops, Green Point Farms, and Reny’s department store.

Her love for her family was evident with stories told and various pictures shown. She enjoyed playing cards, making people smile, special trips to Jackman, and attending the local toy auction.

Laura was predeceased by her husband Raymond G. Frost; her parents, Oscar and Carolyn (Norris) Adams; brothers: Oscar Jr, Richard, Clifton, and Terry Adams; sisters: Marjorie McArthur and Barbra Jean. Son-in-law Glen Russell, grandson Kadhar Bailey, and granddaughter Tiffany (Stephanie) Ahearn.

WATERVILLE – Andrea E. Bathgate, 43, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 4, 2022, in Waterville. She was born July 29, 1978, to Stephen and Ann Bathgate, in Waterville. She also resided in Florida and Alabama and attended John S. Shaw High School, in Alabama. Andrea enjoyed coloring, cleaning, and country music.

She is survived by her sons Cameron Bathgate and Brandon Wheeler, both of Maine, as well as her son, Tyler Williams, of Mississippi; four grandchildren, Jonah, Corblyn, Della-Mire, and Grayson; her father, Stephen; and brothers Stephen Jr. and Peter Bathgate; nieces and nephews, Gabriel, Elizabeth, and Juliana Bathgate and Faith Ann Jones; and has many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Stephany Wheeler; and her mother, Ann.

There will be a graveside service on Sunday, July 24, at 1 p.m., at the North Vassalboro Village Cemetery, near 244 Cemetery St., followed by a Celebration of Life at the St. Bridget Center, at 864 Main St., in Vassalboro.

LORENE W. COOPER

CHELSEA – Lorene Wade Cooper, 90, passed away peacefully at her home, in Chelsea, on Sunday, June 5, 2022. She was born on April 18, 1932, in the midst of the Great Depression, in Tarrant, Alabama.

After graduating high school, she bravely enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where she became Staff Sergeant Wade. She achieved top secret cryptic code clearance and worked in the Pentagon during the Korean War. It was during this time where she met and married Walker D. Cooper in 1954.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents Zuber and Minnie; siblings; as well as her husband, Walker, who passed away in 2004; and her first-born son, Michael W. Cooper, who passed away in 2016.

Walker and Lorene raised four sons, Michael, Bruce, Kirk and Gregg. Lorene nurtured and cherished their entire family including daughters-in-law; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous loved ones who entered her home and became family to her.

She started the long running Co-Op in Orland. After raising her boys, she went to work at the Environmental Protection Agency where she met her lifelong friend, Marcelle.

Lorene stood up for equality and for a better future for her community. She has inspired countless people and generations to be loving, kind, and gentle, and to go out into the world and experience life beyond your four walls. Lorene was quiet, yet captivating. Soft, yet bold. She took every opportunity to make whoever she was with feel loved and seen, and would want us to live with the warm reminder to laugh when you can and that love always wins.

A private graveside service will be held Friday, July 29, at noon, at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, in Augusta. Memories and condolences may be shared on her tribute wall.

FAIRFIELD -David James Kufeldt, 52, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 5, 2022. David was born November 18, 1969, in Nashua, New Hampshire, to Sandra Messenzeff (Bell),

His younger years were spent in Nashua. He attended Boystown High, in Omaha, Nebraska. David’s chosen profession was that of a welder. Over the years he worked for various companies in that capacity. He could weld a bumper for frame of a vehicle. He was in involved at one point welding tugboats in Boothbay. David was working as ride mechanic and welder in Waterville, when he met his wife, Cheryl Kufeldt, in May 2003. They were married August 13, 2005.

David and Cheryl share three children together. David also helped raise four stepchildren.

He loved snowmobiling, four-wheeling, and fishing, He also loved to play Cribbage. He could fix anything and if someone needed help, he would go every time. Bill Manning called him many times to have Dave rescue him from some mechanical problem out on the snowmobile and four-wheeler trails.

David was predeceased by his father, David John Kufeldt, (January 10, 1948 – June 5, 1969).

David is survived by his mother, Sandra (Bell) Messenzeff, of Concord, New Hampshire; his wife, Cheryl Kufeldt; daughter, Kaitlin Kufeldt; sons, David John Kufeldt, and Christian Kufeldt; stepsons, Lucas Schroeder, Tyler Schroeder, and Colby Schroeder; stepdaughter, Angelique Schroeder; and stepgrandchild, Dominic Alleyhis sister, Kelly Gautieri, of Manchester, New Hampshire; and brother Brian Kufeldt, of Concord, New Hampshire; and also nieces and nephews.

REV. NANCY P. ADAMS

WATERVILLE – The Rev. Nancy Pearl Adams, 69, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, in The Villages, Florida. She was born December 18, 1952, in Waterville.

An ordained minister of the United Church of Christ, Nancy’s ministry was as a hospital chaplain, serving for over 30 years as the Coordinator of Pastoral Services, at St. Luke’s Hospital and Health Network, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Nancy grew up with her family in China, graduating from Winslow High School (1971) and Colby College, Waterville, (1975). She then received a Masters of Divinity from Andover Newton Theological Seminary (Newton, Massachusetts) and then did extensive training for hospital chaplaincy at the Lehigh Valley Hospital (Allentown, Pennsylvania), The Hospital Chaplaincy Inc. (New York City) and at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center (New York City), prior to beginning her work at St. Luke’s where she spent her professional career.

She was certified by Association of Professional Chaplains and received numerous awards from professional organizations and her faith group for her exemplary and unfailingly compassionate work.

Nancy will be remembered for her passion – for her wife, Donna, her family and her friends, the many cats she rescued and cared for, the wisdom she shared and teaching of the pastoral care students and chaplaincy volunteers at St. Luke’s Hospital, her deep knowledge and deep respect for people of all faiths and no faith, her commitment to learning and to being a catalyst for justice for all people. She was uncommonly generous with her resources and herself.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Albert H. Adams and Muriel H. Adams, her wife, The Rev. Donna Cieply, and her brother-in-law Rodney Sabattus.

She is survived by her brother Lawrence A. Adams and his wife Victoria H. Adams, and her brother Scott F. Adams and his wife Priscilla M. Adams; and her sister Robin Sabattus; as well as numerous aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Nancy was held on Wednesday, June 22, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

DAVID F. WYNNE

WATERVILLE – David French Wynne, 96, passed away at home Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Dave was born July 10, 1925, in Minnea­polis, Minne­sota, to Ethel (Nichols) and Herbert, M.N. Wynne.

A kind man with a singular sense of humor and a calm demeanor, he was an active member of the Waterville Universalist-Unitarian Church and a mentor to young members in his men’s groups—most now in their 70s. He supported countless environmental and social justice organizations.

Dave remained preternaturally active his entire life, riding bikes with his brother while growing up in Minnesota and boating on the Mississippi River with his young family. He summited Katahdin and OJI peaks in Baxter State Park in his ‘70s with members of his men’s group. Ever the optimist, when he got a water rower fitness machine at age 94 – shortly after he stopped riding his bicycle – he purchased an extended warranty; he maintained his Planet Fitness membership until the week before his death.

He served stateside in the Army Air Corps during World War II before graduating from Amherst (1949) and earning an MBA at Harvard (1951). He married Nancy Cameron Miller September 9, 1950, and they raised daughters Carol, Martha, Connie, and Mary, first in Winona, Minnesota, and later in Wayland, Massachusetts.

He worked in finance as a comptroller and treasurer for manufacturing companies before moving to Maine in the 1980s.

In addition to his wife and daughters, those left to cherish his memory are 101-year-old brother John Wynne; grandchildren Taylor and Dana Merk-Wynne; “fifth daughter” Anne McAuliff; son-in-law Tom Ferro; numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Dave’s life is planned for 4:30 p.m., Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the Waterville Universalist-Unitarian Church.

LEROY RICHARDS JR.

WINDSOR – Leroy “Sonny” Richards Jr., 88, of Windsor, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022. Sonny was born in Belfast to Leroy and Bessie Richards Sr., on May 29, 1934.

After high school Sonny proudly served four years in the United States Air Force.

Upon service discharge, Sonny spent 40 years self employed in the forestry industry, followed by 10 years working as equipment operator and truck driver. Sonny was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed game hunting and fishing, snowmobiling and four-wheeling, camping, boating and gardening.

He lived a full life and was ready to share his interesting and entertaining true life stories with anyone who would take the time to listen.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Carolyn; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Buster Glidden and a brother, Malcolm.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Studley; son, Leroy “Bub” Richards III; grandsons Paul Studley and Brayden Richards; sister, Catherine Vigue; several nieces and nephews.

GEORGE SWEATT III

FAIRFIELD – George “Scott” Sweatt III, 58, passed away at home on Thursday, June 9, 2022. Scott was born on May 9, 1964, in Portsmouth, New Hamp­shire.

In 1976, the Sweatt’s moved to Maine, where Scott graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, in 1982. He then started his career as an electrician, where he made a living for nearly 40 years. He moved back to New Hampshire in 1986 where he began to raise a family.

In 2012, he met his wife Jen at their 30-year class reunion. Scott and Jen shared a deep love for one another. Anyone that knew them could feel the love they shared. They married in August 2018.

Scott had a passion for the outdoors, spending his vacations on the lake, in the woods, and on the snowmobile trail. He had a strong love of music from a young age, playing his guitar at every major family gathering.

He would travel great distances to watch family play sports, sing, race, or just be a listening ear when needed. He had a special place in his heart for his four grandchildren. Anything Scott did brought great joy to those around him.

Scott was predeceased by his father, George Arley Sweatt II.

BENTON – Sally Gordon, 55, passed away at her home on Friday, June 10, 2022. She was born in Waterville on January 21, 1967, the daughter of Martelle and Florence (Buker) Gordon.

She graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, in 1985. From 1985 to 2006, she worked at Cianbro Corporation, in Pittsfield. She worked at New Balance, in Skowhegan, from 2008 to 2020.

Sally loved spending time with her family and arranging special holiday fun for her nieces and nephews. Some of her hobbies included splitting wood, mowing the lawn, planting flowers, and taking excellent pictures, especially of birds. She was strong-willed and had a great work ethic.

Sally was predeceased by her parents.

CHRISTOPHER B. OXLEY

VASSALBORO – Christopher Burleigh Oxley, 35, passed away Monday, June 13, 2022. He was born September 3, 1986, son of Michael and Carol (Queener) Oxley.

Chris grew up in Vassalboro and graduated from Erskine Academy, in South China, in the class of 2005.

Chris was the epitome of a hardworking man; he also knew how to appreciate the simple pleasures in life. He was a true Mainer who enjoyed annual camping trips to Millinocket, hiking (especially Mt. Katahdin), floating down the Penobscot with friends and family on makeshift floats, fishing and hunting. He had appetite for adventure and was very passionate about skydiving. Chris made numerous jumps to be a certified solo sky-diver, of which he accomplished and was very proud.

Chris will be remembered as a genuine, old soul with a heart of gold. He had tremendous love for family and unconditional willingness to help anyone with anything. He impacted many people’s lives and made many friends along the way. The ‘Vassies’, you know who you are, were his friends of many years – stay strong. He will be remembered for his smirk and saying, ‘you know it’.

While in high school, Chris began working at the Suga Farm, in Vassalboro, for 15-plus years. He may not have enjoyed the many hours of haying, however, he did adore his cows, especially Cletus. In 2021, he started working at Huhtamaki, in Waterville, as a machine operator. In the short time he worked there, he made many special friends.

Christopher was predeceased by his Nana, Nancy Oxley, and grandfather, Ulysses G. Queener Jr.

He is survived by his mother, Carol Oxley, and his father, Michael D. Oxley; his brothers Michael R. Oxley, and Justin Oxley and his wife Nancy; his sister-in-law, Shanna Oxley; nieces and nephews, MacKenzie, Connor, Kaila, and Mattis; grandfather, William Oxley-AKA “Joe Bud”; and grandmother, Richarda Maria Queener; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

MARY L. DYKE

WATERVILLE – Mary Linda Dyke, 74, passed away peacefully at the Androscoggin Hospice House, in Auburn, on June 13, 2022. Mary was born in Waterville, on March 14, 1948, the oldest child of Wilfred and Helen (Kenniston) Denis.

She had been at the Hospice House for the past few days. Prior to that she was cared for at home by her husband and children, surrounded frequently with her children and family members including grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. Her life was celebrated with her participating throughout her final weeks.

She was a 1966 graduate of Waterville High School. Mary was a devoted mother to her seven children and loved her role as grandmother. Her family was her top priority.

Her work outside of the home included the Jefferson Restaurant for many years, and then as an insurance claims processor following her business course studies at a local college.

She was assistant director of the Golden Rule Boarding Home, in Augusta, and passionately cared for adults with special needs and disabilities.

For several years she was an active member of the North Vassalboro Baptist Church, where her children were also involved in Sunday school and church activities. She was very clever at arts and crafts projects and loved to create beautiful things with lots of colors to use in her home or to give as gifts. Mary devoted much time to and was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the MacCrillis-Rousseau VFW Post #8835, in Winslow.

She loved holiday and other gatherings with family and friends where lots of food was always served. She and her husband Gary Dyke were married in 1996 and enjoyed many wonderful family events together. They often took short trips to their favorite places to see the ocean or hear some music or visit with their many friends and family.

Mary was the office manager and front desk person at their accounting practice when it was in Turner, where she got to know and was loved by many clients and friends of that business.

Mary is survived by her husband, of Lewiston; and her seven children. Known as the “7 T’s”, or the “Welch Kids”, they live in the greater Waterville area, Tony (Donna), Tim (Andrea) Tom (Tracy), Todd (Sandra), Tiffany, Troy, and Tara; stepson, Robert Dennis (Jane), of Pittsfield; and stepdaughter, Debra Cannistra (John), of Norridgewock; and sister-in-law, Peggy Denis, of Waterville; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers Larry, Ron, and Steve, and sisters Nancy, Debbie, and Sue; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Mike; and her former husbands Joseph Welch and Robert Dennis.

Mary’s final illness was end-stage kidney failure with other complications including diabetes.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a future date.

DONALD F. MASKELL

WATERVILLE – Donald F. Maskell, 77, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Maine­General Medical Center, in Augusta. Donald (Don) was born July 31, 1944, in Quincy, Massachusetts, the son of Grace Wilmer (Peavey) Maskell and Howard Frederick Maskell.

He served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves from 1962 to 1967, and was married to the late Barbara Maskell in 1974, in Waterville. They resided in Oakland for many years where they raised their three sons before building a retirement home in Waterville.

Don worked at Cianbro Corp., in Pittsfield, before joining Schwan’s Food Company in the late 1970s. At Schwan’s he held various jobs as a driver before being promoted to warehouse manager, and he managed a number of depot warehouses across New England before he retired.

He was known to his grandchildren as grampa and “Pupup”.

Before his health declined Don was an avid fisherman, sharing fishing stories with his family right up until the day before he passed. He loved to take fishing excursions with his kids and his grandnephew, Ricky Morse.

Don became a skilled woodworker, making furniture for himself and his children while his health permitted. He passed his knowledge of woodworking on to anyone who wanted to learn.

At the Easter Vigil ceremony in 2002, in answer to the longtime prayers of his wife and children, Don was received into the Catholic Church. He later joined the Knights of Columbus and became a fourth degree Knight.

Don is survived by sons Randall Landry and wife Jeannine, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, and Marc and wife Lynn; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Maskell, of Englewood, Florida.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Barbara, son Scott Landry, siblings Albert Maskell, Howard Maskell, Sophie (Hamilton) Vicnaire, Everett Hamilton, Mildred (Hamilton) Chapman, Henry Hamilton, Harold “Tubby” Hamilton, and Perley Hamilton.

A Catholic Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 15, at 10 a.m., at Notre Dame Church, 116 Silver St., in Waterville, followed by a committal at St. Francis Cemetery.

CHELSEA – Cheyenne Rae Hoskins, 14, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Maine Medical Center, in Portland. She was born January 11, 2008, in Skowhegan, the daughter of Dorette (King) Hoskins.

Although her time on earth was short, she touched many, many lives and will be fondly remembered by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She is survived by her mother, Dorette Hoskins; sisters, Shawna Hunter and Erin Grant; brother, Jedediah Neilson; aunts and uncles Bruce and Tammy King, Andrea and Eric Erskine, Dan and Sarah King, Valerie and David Richards, Brian and Geneva King, Dwayne and Jeanne King; many cousins; and special friends from her time at Spurwink.

She was predeceased by great-grandparents, Constance and Perley King, and Uncle Steve King.

TURNERS FALLS, Massa­chusetts — Brian E. Pinette, 65, of 7th St. passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Baystate Medical Center, in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was born in Augusta, August 11, 1956, the son of Joseph and Gloria (Dowe) Pinette.

A software developer with a PhD in robotics, he was always an early adopter with an interest in new technologies. He was also a voracious reader, and avid gardener, and adventurous cook and homebrewer, and creative with a variety of home improvement projects. He also enjoyed CrossFit and meditation.

Brian was a generous spirit and active in the community in a variety of ways. He enjoyed attending conferences on both cutting-edge scientific developments and paranormal activity.

He was predeceased by three siblings—Gregory, Scott, and Lori and his parents—Joseph and Gloria.

He is survived by his two children, Luke Pinette and Jed Kundl; the three children of his late sister, Derry, Moira, and Ian Salewski.

CLINTON – Justin B. Howard, 36, died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 22, 2022. Justin was born in Waterville, on March 15, 1986, to Nena Shaw and Gerald Howard Jr.

Justin graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, class of 2004.

He will be remembered as the funny, kind, and creative person that he was growing up. His smile and laugh will never be forgotten.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents as well as several aunts and uncles.

ROSALIND F. JOSEPH

WATERVILLE – Rosalind Fern (Bard) Joseph, 90, of Waterville passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, following a sudden illness. Rosalind was born on August 13, 1931, in Fort Kent, to parents Alcide and Cecile (Robichaud) Bard.

She was the oldest of 12 siblings and spent her early years on the family’s potato farm. As a young woman, Rosalind moved to Waterville, where she eventually married and began her family. Years later, as a single mother of four, she proved her tenacity by continuing her education, going back to work at Keyes Fibre Co., (now Huhtamaki), in Waterville, for 16 years before her retirement and maintaining her home by herself.

During this time she also had a radical encounter with Jesus Christ, her Savior and found a place of belonging with the people at Blessed Hope Church, in Waterville, and at Lakeside Advent Christian Campground, in Belgrade. Rosalind’s faith in Christ was well-known and she spent many years serving at her church and at Lakeside in various roles. She loved reading scripture and dedicated herself to being a “prayer warrior,” praying for extended periods of time for her loved ones, community and the world.

Her desire above all was for her family and friends to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. She recognized God’s care and provision for her throughout her life and prayed that her loved ones would experience His grace as well and she was not afraid to share her faith with everyone she encountered. Lakeside held a very dear place in Rosalind’s heart.

She purchased a small camp and later built a new larger one, designing and doing much of the work herself, and spent every summer there for decades until her dementia made it difficult.

Rosalind was predeceased by her parents, brothers Rosaire “Shoe”, Bertrand and Maurice Bard, and great-granddaughter Acadia Grace Tuggle.

She is survived by her children Gerald Joseph, Cheryl Tuggle, David Joseph and wife Tonda, and Paul Joseph, as well as grandchildren Sarah Doyle and husband Tim, Joshua Tuggle, Joann Bedillion and husband Damon, Jessica Joseph, Leah Tuggle, Bethany Tuttle and husband Jason, and Dylan Joseph; and great-grandchildren Elijah and Micah Tuggle, Connor and Brynn Doyle, Wyatt and Ian Tuttle, and Luca and Aliyah Joseph.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m., at Blessed Hope Church, (10 Pleasant Street, Waterville) with a reception to follow.

SIDNEY – Jeffrey A. Quirion Sr., 57, passed away May 25, 2022 at Alfond Center for Health, in Augusta. He was born December 15, 1964, in Waterville, the son of Paul J. and Janet (Mullen) Quirion.

He graduated from Messalonskee High School, in Oakland, in 1984 and was employed as a service writer in the automobile industry all his life. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, listening to music, four-wheeling, and family gatherings.

Jeffrey is survived by his parents, Paul and Janet Quirion, of Oakland; daughter, Katie Lancaster and husband Travis, of Fairfield; son, Jeff Quirion and wife Tamran, of Sidney; grandchildren, Aaliyah, Aerek, Jackson, Morgan, Madalyn and Emma; sister, Paula Fairfield and husband Joe, of Sidney; brother, Danny Quirion and wife Maryanne, of Vassalboro; sister, Angela Quirion and partner Ian Reilly, of Wiscasset; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

SIDNEY – Catherine “Kaye” Myrtle Doyle Mooers, 87, of Sidney, formerly of Manchester, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Maine­General Rehabilitation and Nursing Glenridge Comfort Care Unit, in Augusta. She was born in Dexter on December 23, 1934, the daughter of Everett E. and Grace (Landry) Doyle.

She was a 1953 graduate of Maine Central Institute, in Pittsfield, and graduated with highest honors from the University of Maine in Orono in 1974.

She was a member of the Manchester Community Church for over 50 years where she was past president of the Adult Club, served as church clerk and as chairman of the board of trustees. She was a member of the MCC choir and served as church historian and photographer for many years.

She served as Class Agent for the class of 1953 at Maine Central Institute and enjoyed getting classmates together in Maine and in Florida, and in keeping them informed about special events in their lives. She was inducted into the MCI Hall of Fame in 2013 for her outstanding work as a Class Agent for over 55 years.

She was a past secretary of the Manchester PTA and member and past president of the Army National Guard Auxiliary, of Gardiner. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, of Augusta, The Maine Retired Teachers Association, and the National Education Association. She worked for the State of Maine Department of Human Services, was patients control clerk, inventory clerk, and switchboard operator at the Augusta State Hospital, and was head cook at the Manchester Elementary School.

Working with children at the school inspired her to go to college and fulfill her dream to become a teacher. Upon graduating from UMO she taught second grade at Farrington Elementary School, in Augusta, for 20 years. She loved keeping in touch with her former students and enjoyed getting to know their children.

She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Walter F. Mooers, Sr.; two brothers Wilmont and Arthur Doyle, and three sisters Dorothy Doyle Elderkin, Phyllis Cline Kaler, and Ruth Shirley Shorey.

Survivors include her son Walter F. Mooers, Jr. and wife Jean, of Manchester; daughter Deborah L. Violette and husband Michael, of Sidney; grandchildren Justin W. Mooers and wife Kate, Ryan R. Mooers and wife Bobbi Jo, Tanya Jones and companion Dan Howe, and Steven Violette and companion Amanda Moody; great-grandchildren Kyle Walker, Brenna-Marie Mooers, Brayden Walter Jones, Hailey Olivia Jones, and Lilajean Mooers, Ronilynn Mooers, and Brycen Mooers; a niece Christina Elderkin Botting Kostuk who lived with the Mooers during her teen years; and many other nieces and nephews to whom she was very close; her companion and dear friend Stirling Thurston, of Sidney, and Brooksville, Florida, where they shared many years together after the loss of their spouses.

Committal prayers and burial will be held Saturday, June 11, at 11 a.m. at the Manchester Forks Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Manchester Community Church, at noon, and a gathering after for fellowship and refreshments.

ROBERT E. GURNEY

CLINTON – Robert E. Gurney, 90, of Clinton, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022, following a battle with cancer. He died at the VA hospice care in Togus. Bob was born on March 28, 1932, the son of John J. Gurney and Flora C. Gurney, of Fairfield.

He had two sisters and nine brothers. He attended school in the Fairfield school system.With the outbreak of the Korean War, Bob joined the U.S.Army and went to Korea in 1950 to 1953 to fight for our country. Following his discharge from the military service, he went to work at Scott Paper Co., in Winslow.

He married Marline Parker on December 20, 1957. They had two children, Robert (Skip) Gurney and Mary Bowman. His first love was always his family.

Playing horseshoes, card games and croquet with his grandchildren was always a favorite time for Bob. He enjoyed gardening and puttering around the farm as his daily routine. He had a long career at Scott Paper Co. before retiring at the age of 55, and had a long, wonderful retirement of more than 35 years.

Bob will be remembered as a quiet man who always was willing to help anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marline; two children Robert (Jane) Gurney and Mary (Donnie)Bowman; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, and sisters.

Funeral service will be private for immediate family.

ELSIE J. ADAMS

PALERMO – Elsie Jean (Tibbetts) Adams, 93, of Palermo, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022. Elsie, the second of seven Tibbetts girls, was born in Windsor on July 15, 1928, to parents John and Harriet (Greeley) Tibbetts.

She grew up helping her sisters, then went on to meet the love of her life, Earl Stanton Adams, during a Walker High School field trip. Elsie began attending Farmington State Teachers College, where Earl soon enrolled, in an attempt to capture Elsie’s heart. The pair wed in 1947, began a family in Rutland, Vermont, and soon moved back to Maine.

With Earl’s support, Elsie resumed classes, attending summer school and night classes so she could take care of her family during the daytime, finally matriculating at University of Maine, Orono, Class of ’69.

Elsie and Earl were married for 59 years and raised three children. Teaching at Walker High School for six years, Elsie taught for an additional 31 years in the China school system before finally retiring in 1985. She loved teaching and was an avid reader, sightseer, card player, camper, snowmobiler, enjoyed crocheting and knitting, and later in life, enjoyed her winters in Florida with Earl.

Her firm belief in family fed a passion for genealogy and she would discuss her ancestral roots and interests in genealogy with anyone who would listen. The annual Tibbetts family reunions were always a highlight for Elsie, as was her involvement with annual Fish and Game yard sales she hosted at her home on Route 3, in Palermo. Elsie was also known to bake delicious sweets, as well as canning vegetables and pickles from the garden she and Earl planted and tended each season.

Old fashioned donuts, apple pie and mincemeat pie were just a few popular items Elsie often made to share with friends, family, and strangers alike. Elsie and Earl playfully teased one another, providing hours of amusement to their grandchildren and anyone else who needed a smile. “For heaven’s sakes, Earl” was perhaps one of her best-known lines in response to his “for heaven’s sakes, Elsie.”

Like her sisters, Elsie was strong and independent, always there when needed.

She was a member of the Kennebec and Waldo Retired Teachers Associations, Maine Education Association, National Education Association, Palermo Historical Society, Palermo Fish and Game, and the Maine Old Cemetery Association.

She leaves behind her three children: Ronald Adams and his wife Patricia Mathis of Houston, Texas; Caroline Holden and husband Hank, of Palermo, and John (Jack) Elwin Adams, of Fairfield; a sister, Marcia Taber, of Syracuse, New York; grandchildren Kristyn Mathis, of Houston, Texas, Randall Adams and wife Amy, of Middleburg, Virginia, Carolyn Johnson and husband Jason, of Fort Collins, Colorado, Christine Caswell and husband Moises Nuñez, of Portland, George Caswell. Jr. and wife Laura Johnston, of Sudbury, Massachusetts, Jennifer Adams and husband Robert Harville, of Scarborough, Seth Adams, of Southern Maine; great-grandchildren Michael, Meaghan, Daniel, and Ethan Adams, Henry and Cecylia Schattle; Violet, Melody, and Benjamin Caswell; Hazel Harville; and several nieces, and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Earl (2007); her sisters Frances Lenfest, Beryl Glidden, Carolyn Ballantyne, Betty Glidden, Sylvia Tibbetts, and a daughter-in-law, Eva (Gilblair) Adams.

Funeral services were held at the Palermo Christian Church, on Sunday, June 5, 2022.

DAVID N. BURBANK

WINSLOW – David Nelson Burbank, 91, of Winslow, passed away at his home on Monday, May 30, 2022. David was born on April 1, 1931, in Waterville, the son of Lynwood A. “Steve” Burbank and Ethel A. Remillard Burbank.

He was educated in Waterville schools where he participated in many activities, graduating from Waterville High School in 1949. David credited the Waterville Boys Club for keeping him trouble-free during his formative years, and was instrumental in forming the Keystone Club.

After graduation, he went to work at the Elmwood Hotel, in Waterville, where he met his future wife Marlene Dumont. They were married on August 26, 1950, at Sacred Heart Church, in Waterville, with Father Houlihan officiating. In 1951, he moved on to work as a production trainee at C.F. Hathaway Shirt Co., in Waterville, where he worked for 41 years until retirement. He advanced to various manufacturing positions and in 1962 was transferred to Dover-Foxcroft to start up a satellite plant. The entire growing family enjoyed their home and community there.

He and Marlene were very active in various organizations in the community, and were congregants of St. Thomas Church. In 1967, David was transferred back to Waterville as a manufacturing consultant and the family moved to Winslow, where they lived until his passing. He traveled to various Hathaway facilities in the northeast and Puerto Rico. David retired in 1992 as the plant manager of the main plant in Waterville.

David was a 48-year member of the Waterville Country Club where he played golf until age 90, and was active at St. John Corpus Christi Parish. Marlene and David traveled extensively until health issues did not allow it. David was an avid golfer, gardener, cross-country skier, and an amazing cook, which passions he enthusiastically taught and passed along to his family. Above all, David was totally devoted to his large and loving family.

David was predeceased by his parents, and his sisters Elizabeth Jolicoeur and Ethelyn Nixon.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marlene Burbank; and four children, Scott and his wife Susan, of Homer, Alaska, Larry, of Waterville, Tim and his wife Marsha, of China, and Jane Veilleux and her husband Roger, of Winslow; grandchildren Todd and his wife Katie, of Winslow, Jeremy and his wife Lorelei, of Vassalboro, Daniel and his wife Danielle, of Belgrade, Jason and his fiancée Jennifer, of Georgia, Kate O’Neal and her husband Patrick, of North Carolina, Kirsten Wrigley and her husband Tyler, of North Carolina; step-grandchildren Eliana LaCroix and her fiancé Zach, of Burnham, and Pamela Ames and her husband John, of Massachusetts; 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

At David’s request there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Church, 26 Monument St., in Winslow, on Monday, June 20, 2022, at 10 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at Marlene and David’s home.

JEREMY L. GILLEY

VASSALBORO – Spc. Jeremy L. Gilley, 37, died unexpectedly Monday, May 30, 2022, at his home. He was born in Waterville on December 22, 1984, son of Thomas V. and Tammy A. (Green) Gilley.

Jeremy grew up in Palermo and attended Erskine Academy, in South China. He served in the U.S. Army in Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 502D Infantry Regiment during Operation Enduring Freedom. Jeremy encountered many obstacles during his life but always had the strength and determination to overcome them. After he lost both of his legs in his 2011 accident, limiting him from the things he enjoyed doing, Jeremy had his daughter Kara.

She became his whole world and motivated him to set and achieve goals. His most recent goal was converting his truck into a camper. He planned to travel the U.S., reuniting with some of his former military brothers along the way.

He was predeceased by his father, Thomas V. Gilley, uncle, Lonnie Gilley and maternal grandmother, Diane Green.

Jeremy is survived by his mother, Tammy A. (Green) Gilley, of Palermo; his daughter, Kara Gilley, of Chelsea; two sisters: Jessica (Gilley) Toothaker, of Augusta, and Taylor Gilley, of South China; nephew, Aaric Toothaker and niece, Cadence Welch; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Gilley; maternal grandfather, John Green as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

JOHN GOFF

WATERVILLE – John Goff passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at MaineGeneral Medical Center. He was born in Farm­ington, the son of Edward Goff & Helen (Cook) McPherson.

He was always a free spirit with a curious mind. John enjoyed watching the Red Sox games, watching old westerns. He loved his Red Sox, John Deere tractors and farming. To know him was to love him. He had a heart of gold. His kind loving heart and larger than life personality always shined through.

John was predeceased by his parents Edward Goff and Helen McPherson; his baby brother Charles, his older brother Michael; and his niece Holly Lakin.

He is survived by his sister-in-law Cheryl Goff; nieces Jennifer Goff, Jessica Crispin, Amanda Wyman; his great-nephews Cameron Schmidt, Brandon Schmidt, Jaithon Crispin, his great-niece Brilynn Crispin; great-great-nephew Parker Crispin and great-great-niece Dahlia Crispin; many cousins from the Dyer family.

A private graveside service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetary, on Park Street, in Madison.

JULIA CRAIG

WATERVILLE – Julia “Judy” Craig, 95, passed away on June 4, 2022, at Oak Grove Center, Waterville,. She was born in Durant, Oklahoma, on October 14, 1926, to Hettie Shaw Wilcox and Alfred Wilcox.

She lived most of her life in Texas, picking cotton for a living as a child with her parents and five siblings, and then later working in a variety of service occupations, including waitressing, secretarial and receptionist work. She married William R. Craig in 1948 to whom she remained faithful until his passing in 2010. She had two children, eight grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Judy became a Christian in the 1950s and faithfully served the Lord at Lavonne Drive Baptist for many years. She enjoyed being the church secretary for several years and singing in the choir.

In 2013 she moved to Maine to be with her son and family, quickly becoming an important part of their lives, especially in her granddaughter-in-law’s daycare where she became the official baby rocker. She was a member of Kennebec Valley Baptist Church and was welcomed into a group of friends with whom she enjoyed playing cards weekly. When the time came for her to transition to Oak Grove Center, Judy continued to love and be loved by so many people. Her loving and fun personality made her many friends in her long life.

Judy is survived by her son, Michael Craig and wife LaVerne; her grandchildren Jamin Craig and wife Bethany, of Benton, William Craig and wife Dana, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Jenny Craig, of Augusta, Joseph Craig and wife Libby, of Benton, Matthew Craig, of Westbrook, Wendy Williamson Roberts and husband Roy, of Pensacola, Florida, Julie Williamson Ausbrook and husband Thomas, of Royse City, Texas, Jason Williamson, of McKinney, Texas; her great-grandchildren Jordan, Sam, Jacob, Zackary, Gavin, Riley, and Westley Craig, Evan, Cody, Aaron, Natya and Leila Craig, Sola Craig, Kaysi and Kaitlyn Roberts, and Toby Williamson; two great-great-grandchildren, Joshua and Anna Craig; many nieces and nephews; her son-in-law George Williamson, of Bedias, Texas.

She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Alfred, Ralph, Genevieve, Marie, Dana, and Tim.

There will be a funeral on Friday, June 10, at 2 p.m., at Kennebec Valley Baptist Church, followed by light refreshments and fellowship, with a committal service at Greenlawn Rest cemetery, in Clinton, at 4:30 p.m.
