BONNIE L. OAKES

CLINTON – Bonnie Lynn Oakes, 51, of Clinton, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019, following a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Bonnie was born in Waterville on April 10, 1967, to Raymond Oakes and Lorraine Quimby.

She was never married but had two children with her first love and high-school sweetheart, Timothy Lizzotte. She spent most of her early adult years being a mother and homemaker. Through the years, she was employed in various industries, including hospitality, foodservice, and agriculture.

Bonnie’s daughters, son-in-law, and grandchildren have been blessed to have spent so much time with her these past few years. The memories made during this time will last forever. She amazed everyone with how she handled her incredible health challenges, chronic pain, and disability. She faced it all with dignity, grace, zero complaining, and an incredible sense of humor despite it all.

Bonnie leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Chris Harrington; her grandchildren, Adalia, Anaya, Avaya, and Honor Harrington; her daughter, Sarah Stottlemyer; her grandson, Odin Stottlemyer; her siblings Brenda Oakes, Bill Oakes, Dana Oakes, and Carol Temple; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bonnie was predeceased by her parents.

CHARLES M. CLARKE

OAKLAND – Charles M. Clarke, 64, of Oakland, passed away peacefully following a battle with many medical complications, on January 25, 2019, in Cape Coral, Florida. Charlie was born in Waterville, to Maurice and Jean Clarke on January 30, 1954. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1972. He married the former Ellen Jurdak on January 28, 2014, in Naples, Italy.

Charlie began as a cook in 1972 at local restaurants in Waterville before starting at Kennebec Supply Co., in 1974. Charlie continued with Kennebec Supply Co., turned F. W. Webb, for the following 42 years as an account manager until he retired in 2016. He was known for starting the 110 Yacht Club, in Boothbay Harbor. He was also part of the Boothbay Harbor Country Club.

Golfing and boating were his absolute favorite and enriched his life year round. When he was not doing one of the above, he was planning for the next trip including his most recent trips to Florida in the winter. Charlie also enjoyed his love of sports which included playing hockey, coaching hockey and watching the Patriot’s during football season.

Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Maurice Clarke, who passed in 1994, and his mother, Jean Rhodes Clarke, who passed in 1979.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Ellen Clarke, of Oakland; daughter Nicole Clarke and fiancé, Michael Foley, of Phoenix, Arizona; son, Nick Jurdak and wife, Lynn Jurdak, of Oakland; cousin, Sue Modereger and John Modereger; “brother from another mother,” Mike Carey and his wife, Patti Carey.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life that will be held from 1-5 p.m. on February 10, 2019, at the Waterville Elks Lodge, 76 Industrial St., Waterville.

ARTHUR E. GENEST

OAKLAND – Arthur E. Genest, 90, of Oakland, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at Maine Medical Center, in Portland. He was born in Waterville on July 5, 1928, one of 12 children of Albertine (Bourque) and Albert Genest.

He was a graduate of Waterville High School, class of 1946. In May of 1947 he began a 40-plus-year career with Maine Central Railroad, retiring in March 1986.

In 1951 he married Yolande Rachel Cloutier and together they would have five children. Over the years, Art was a member of the Maine Wood Carver’s Association; National Association of Veteran and Retired Railroad Employees (NAVRRE); United Transportation Union; Waterville City Council from 1970-1974; Representative to Maine State Legislature from 1971-1975 and was a sponsor of legislation to create the Maine State Lottery. After retirement Art and Yolande enjoyed many years in Holiday, Florida.

Art is survived by his three sons: Larry and his wife, Donna, of Benton, James and his wife, Linda, of Waterville, David, of Winslow; his two daughters, Jeannie, of Oakland, Susan Mowles and her husband, Gary, of Salisbury, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren: Holly Towle, Emily Genest, Christopher Genest, Stacey Genest, Jared Genest, Lauren Mowles, Allison Mowles; as well as one great-granddaughter, Jasmine Gogan; three sisters, Priscilla Drapeau, Barbara Hoffman, Marie Turner; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sisters:Opal Cayford, Dorothy Allen, Gloria Hoffman,Anne Swears, Beulah Genest, Constance Genest; and brothers, Vincent, Raymond, Emile and Earl.

Burial will be in the spring in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 78 Grove St., Waterville, Maine.

RON CHAYER

SIDNEY – Ron Chayer, 79, formerly of Winslow, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at Togus VA Medical Center, Augusta. Ron was born in July 1939, in Waterville.

He was a graduate of Waterville High School, and served in the Army, stationed in South Korea and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After his service, he attended Bryant College, in Boston, graduated from University of Maine with a bachelors degree in business, and Thomas College, in Waterville, with a masters degree in business. Ron worked for Keyes Fibre Company, in Waterville, as their director of information technology until his retirement in 1994, and continued utilizing his skills and love of computers by consulting for credit unions and schools, where he was affectionately called the nickname “Puter Man” by the students. He continued consulting up until shortly before his passing.

He met and married his wife, Claire Bruce, in 1967, and moved to Winslow, where they raised their two sons, Steven and David. They were married for more than 50 years. Ron enjoyed participating in the school’s sport programs, particularly hockey, with their boys. Later in life, they loved to travel and spend time with their grandchildren, Hope, Stevie, Brayton and Nathaniel. Ron’s favorite pastimes were many, as he never wished to sit still.

Along with his hours of landscaping and tinkering with home improvements, he enjoyed playing golf and cribbage with his friends, and spending quality time with his furry love, dog, Lacee.

He is survived by his family, sons and their spouses, Steve and Tricia Chayer, of Weeks Mills, and Dave and Olivia Chayer, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; granddaughter, Hope Chhum, of Medford, Massachusetts, and Stevie Chayer, his “oldest grandson”, Peter Chhum, and grandsons, Nathaniel and Brayton Chayer.

Ron was predeceased by his parents, Carroll and Ernestine and brother Harold Chayer.

AUDREY G. CHILDS

LIBERTY – Audrey G. Childs, 93, passed away Monday, January 28, 2019, at Waldo County General Hospital, in Belfast. She was born January 12, 1926, in Albion, the daughter of Harlen and Glenna (Robinson) Childs.

She was educated in the schools of Palermo. On July 27, 1989, she married Kenneth Childs, in Liberty. She was employed at Lipman’s Poultry, in Augusta, Penobscot Poultry, in Belfast, and spent 20 years employed at Maplewood, in Belfast. She was a member of the Palermo and Skowhegan churches and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed eating out, going to yard sales, collecting dolls and dancing.

Audrey is survived by two daughters, Barbara St. Clair and husband William, of Montville, Beverly Nickerson and husband Harley; four sons, Raymond Harriman and wife Vicki, of Nobleton, Florida, Richard Harriman and wife Cynthia, and Donald Harriman and wife Deborah, all of Liberty, and Warren Harriman and wife Donna, of Belfast; niece, Mary Thomson, of Newport; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

HOPE JOLICOEUR-CRAIG

VASSALBORO – Hope Marie Jolicoeur-Craig, 44, of Vassalboro, died unexpectedly at her place of work on Tuesday, January 29, 2019. She was born on August 31, 1974, in Skowhegan, the daughter of Theresa (Roy) and Paul Robinson.

She was educated in local schools.

Simply put, Hope enjoyed life itself, and she possessed a positive energy that showed itself in her big heart, being very social and she loved to dance. She had the gift of presence and she always had a smile on her face and was ready to help no matter the reason or circumstance. She was a great animal lover. Hope will be remembered for many fine qualities and she was very proud of her two sons, her granddaughter and her being a very good wife.

Hope is survived by husband Raymond Craig, of Vassalboro, her two sons, Anthony Jolicoeur and his daughter, Madison, of Winslow, Lance Jolicoeur, USMC, of Norfolk, Virgina; her mother, Theresa Robinson, of Waterville; her father, Paul Robinson, of Freeport; her brother, Joe Robinson, of Augusta; her stepdaughter, Heidi Craig, of Boothbay Harbor; her aunt, Yvette Roy; her cousin, Ann McCormick, of Waterville; as well as her sons’ father, Donald Jolicoeur, of Winslow.

She was predeceased by her brother, Bruce Robinson.

RICHARD “DICK” LORD

OAKLAND – Richard “Dick” Lord, 62, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, following a heroic battle with cancer. Dick was born on June 12, 1956, to Thomas and Beverly (Violette) Lord.

Dick graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield. After graduation, he attended the University of Maine in Orono for one year before enrolling at the New England Institute of Mortuary Arts and Sciences, where he graduated with a 4.0 GPA, and was a member of the National Honor Society.

After Dick graduated mortuary school, he worked at Wheeler Funeral Home for one year before purchasing the funeral home in 1981. Dick continued to serve the families in the Oakland community, and surrounding areas for over 35 years until his retirement. Throughout those 35 years, Dick was a part of the Oakland Lions Club, he was the treasurer of the Oakland Historical Society, a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Maine Funeral Directors Association, and he was a member of the Early Bird Coffee Club which included Norman, Nelson, Doug, Bruce, and Darrel.

Dick married his best friend, Jeannine Violette on June 25, 1976. They had one daughter together, Alexandria (Alex).

Dick had many passions which included, the love of sailing, traveling the world, summers at his camp on Messalonskee Lake, and Great Danes, but, Dick’s biggest passion was his family. With all of his world travels and trips, Jeannine was right by his side. Dick was always supportive of all of Alex’s endeavors. His grandson, Hunter, had a very special spot in his “Grand-Da’s” heart.

Dick was predeceased by his mother Beverly Lord; and brothers, Jon and Darrell Timothy Lord.

He is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, Jeannine Lord, of Oakland; daughter Alexandria Lord and fiancé, Jeff, of Oakland; grandson, Hunter; father, Thomas Lord and wife, Louise; brother, William Lord and wife, Donna; sister, Deborah Thomas and husband, Robert, of Knox; sisters-in-law, Tonya Lord, of Burlington, Vermont, and Donna Lord, of Clinton; Dick’s nieces and nephews.

There will be a gathering on Saturday, February 9, from 1-4 o.m. at O’Brien’s Event Center, 375 Main Street, in Waterville. There will be a private burial in the spring.

GERALD A. HOLT

FAIRFIELD CENTER – Gerald Allan Holt, born February 9, 1931, in Fairfield Center, to Ralph and Evelyn Holt, who preceded him in death, passed away at Seal Rock, in Saco, following a long illness on Wednesday, January 30, 2019.

The Holts were well known in the Fairfield Center area where Holt’s Superette was the general store there for several decades. Jerry was a long-time resident of Fairfield Center and the owner of Jerry’s Furniture Store, until retirement. He was also a sheriff for Somerset County for many years.

Jerry graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, in June 1948, was in the U.S. Air Force and marred Theresa Gagnon in May 1952. Theresa preceded Jerry in death in 1999 after 47 years of marriage. Jerry and Theresa lived most of their lived most of their life in Fairfield Center and had a summer home on Snow Pond. When they retired, they spent several winters in Sarasota, Florida. Jerry spent the last part of his life at Seal Rock, in Saco, where they took very good care of him.

Jerry belonged to the Waterville Exchange Club, Waterville Elks Lodge, Victor Grange and several wood working groups. He enjoyed woodworking and carving as well as attending garage sales. He enjoyed his family, boating, skiing, cookouts at Snow Pond and traveling in their RV.

Jerry is survived by three daughters, Terry thompson and husband, Robert, of Hamden, Connecticut, Catherine Hold, of Saco, and Laurie Dumond and husband, Todd, of Gray; grandchildren, Chris Lounder, of Lima, Peru, Valerie Middleton and husband, Joey, of Elkridge, Maryland, Kristin Benzinger and husband, Robert Cleaveland Jr., of Yonkers, New York, Kaitlyn Weaver and husband, Craig, of Winterport, Robert Thompson, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Bryanna Dumond, of Gray and Danielle Jennings, of Saco; and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Kobe Middleton, of Elkridge, Maryland; his sister, Patricia Holt Leary and husband, Lawrence, of Palm Coast, Florida; a brother, Richard Holt and wife, Diane, of Saco; a niece, Karyn Caldwell and her husband, Lew, of Richboro, Pennsylvania; nephews Eric Holt and wife, Marlena, of Farmington, New Hampshire, and Daniel Leary, of Palm Coast, Florida.

His grandson, Tommy Mousseau, predeceased him in October 2018.

Visitation will be held at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main Street, Fairfield, on Friday, March 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, March 23, from 9:30 to 10”30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a luncheon at the Best Western, 375 Main Street, Waterville.

EVELYN R. MacKELLAR, 93, of Brunswick, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at Horizons Living and Rehabilitation Center, in Brunswick. Locally, she is survived by a sister, Virginia Belanger, of Winslow.

DENNIS E. LINDSAY

ALBION – Dennis Elwood Lindsay, 85, of Albion, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at the Alfond Center for Health, in Augusta. He was born July 20, 1933, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the son of Elwood H. and Marjorie A. (Gaisford) Lindsay.

He was a proud veteran, serving in the Army at West Point,New York. He and his wife, Sally, moved their family to Albion in 1973. They made a life farming and trucking wood and together Dennis and Sally raised not only their own children but opened arms to the kids’ friends and neighbors. No dinner table ever consisted solely of the immediate four, but was an event with many.

Dennis was a member of the American Legion, Free Masons, and a life-long fireman, starting his service in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, in 1949, and even after retiring as Chief in Albion, remaining active to assist when needed.

Dennis and Sally took many camping trips to Fryeburg Fair, Lake St. George, and reached more than 40 states with family, friends and grandkids.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sally; son, Jeffrey and his wife, Gayle Lindsay; daughter, Amy Fowler; granddaughters, Sophia Lindsay and her partner Garrett Hudanish, Kathryn and her husband Troy Ellis, Amanda and her husband Jake Gurney, Lindsay and her wife Sarah Page; great-grandchildren, Caden and Lydia Gurney; and his two sisters, Beth Hilliard and Ardeth Burnett.

Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Marjorie and Elwood Lindsay; stepmother, Priscilla Lindsay; brother, Robert Lindsay; and grandson, Jarod Trafton.

Services will be held in the spring with a Celebration of Life, date to be determined.

LEONETTE MICHAUD

WINSLOW – Leonette (Mathieu) Michaud, 92, passed away at her home in Winslow on Thursday, January 3, 2019. She was born April 5, 1926, in Winslow, the daughter of Aime and Felixine (Fecteau) Mathieu.

She was a graduate of Mt. Merici Academy, class of 1943, and married Fernand Michaud on May 15, 1948. For a time she taught school at Mt. Merici Academy and the former Sacred Heart School, both in Waterville. She and her husband owned and operated Michaud’s Retirement Home, in Winslow, from 1975 until their retirement, in 2002. She was a lifelong communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, in Winslow, serving as a lector for many years. Leonette had a beautiful singing voice, loved family sing-a-longs and participated in the church choir. Among her other interests she enjoyed sewing, crafts, flower gardening, dancing, and in her earlier years she was adept at ice skating. She was a member of the Bourque-Lanigan American Legion Auxiliary, Post #5, in Waterville. Faith and family were the focal points of her life.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Fernand; and four daughters, Sonia Butler and husband, David, Claudette Massey and a special friend, Dana Mosher, Patricia Grenier and husband, David, and Terry Lee Michaud, all of Winslow; two grandsons, David F. Butler and Amy, of Massachusetts, and Alex Grenier, USCG, stationed in Florida; four granddaughters, Kelly Butler and Rebecca, also of Massachusetts, Aimee Massey, of Oregon, Christina Massey, of California, Katie Grenier, of Winslow; and three great-grandchildren, twins, David and William Butler and Jonah Stark. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia (Goode) Mathieu, of Texas; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, Aime and Felixine Mathieu; her sister, Madeline Shorty and husband, Robert, her brother, Roland Mathieu and his wife, Blanche, infant sister, Jeannette Constance Mathieu, her brother, Bernard Mathieu and her son-in-law, Stephen Massey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, Winslow, on Saturday, January 12 at 11 a.m. Following Mass, a Celebration of Life will take place at Notre Dame Parish Hall, 116 Silver St., Waterville. Interment will be announced at a later date.

JEFFREY A. HOSEA

OAKLAND – Jeffrey Alan Hosea, 54, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Northern Light Inland Hospital, in Waterville. Jeff was born in Waterville on December 8, 1964, the son of Lowell and Harriet (Sawtelle) Hosea.

He attended Clinton Elementary and Tapley School, in Oakland, through the eighth grade, and graduated from Temple Academy, in Waterville, in 1983. He earned his associate’s degree in automotive technology from Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, in Bangor, in 1986.

Jeff was a successful and thriving auto technician at Nault’s Honda, in Manchester, New Hampshire, during which he met his future wife. He continued his career at Paul Blouin’s Honda, in Augusta, before transitioning to his employer, Central Maine Toyota, in Waterville. He strived for excellency in all he did, which was shown through his Master Technician Certification and Automotive Service Excellence awards, among many other performance awards. Jeff was a man of God, and attended Faith Evangelical Free Church and Kennebec Valley Baptist Church, both in Waterville.

For many years Jeff’s hobbies included cycling, hiking, camping, and enjoying quality time with friends and family. He was known for big spreads at barbecues, lobster bakes, fireworks displays on the 4th of July, and his weekend breakfast buffets.

On June 12, 1993, Jeff married Angela Buice at Calvary Temple Chapel, which his father helped build.

He was predeceased by his father, Lowell Hosea; his paternal grandfather, Frank Hosea; and his maternal grandfather, Arthur Sawtelle.

He is survived by his mother, Harriet Hosea; his wife, Angela Hosea; his two children, Jessica and Travis Hosea; his siblings, Julie Gee, Lowell Hosea Jr., Tim Hosea, and Dennis Hosea; his nieces and nephews, Paul Gee, Heather Mclewin, Joshua Hosea, Christopher Hosea, Susan Brown,l Megan Roy, Shannon Williford, Kayla Hosea, Dawna Sargent, and Debbie Sheridan; his second son, Daniel Turner.

ROBERT LANE

WINSLOW – Robert “Bob” Lane, 91, died at Lakewood Continuing Care on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. Bob was born December 29, 1927, in Oakland, the son of Albert Lane and Mary (Kraus) Lane.

He graduated from Williams High School, in Oakland, class of 1946. Bob married the forer June Ann Veilleux, of Winslow, on July 4, 1950.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War stationed in Germany. He achieved the rank of corporal and received an honorable discharge in 1953. Bob graduated from Thomas College, in Waterville, in 1956 where he earned an associate degree in business administration and furthered his education at Husson College, in Bangor. He was employed by Keyes Fibre Company (Shawmut Plant) for 30 years, retiring in 1988 as office coordinator.

Bob was a longtime member of Bourque-Lanigan American Legion Post #5, Waterville and MacCrillis-Rousseau VFW Post #8835, Winslow. He was a communicant of Corpus Christi Parish.

Bob’s passion included fishing, boating, and camping with close friends and family on local lakes as well as Moosehead Lake.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, June; his sister Marie (Vigue) Martin and her late husband, Joseph, of Oakland; his niece Kimberly (Martin) Gilbert and husband, Paul, their children, Jennifer (Gilbert) Howard and husband, Kyle, and Gregory Gilbert and wife, Sarah, of New Hampshire; his nephew, Keith Vigue and wife, Sheila, of Florida, and their son, Derek Vigue; his godchildren, Philip Pouliot and family, of Fairfield; Kimberly (Bolduc) Pearson and family, of Colorado; as well as several cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Albert Lane; stepfather, Mike Vigue; mother, Mary (Kraus) Lane Vigue; a nephew and godchild, David Vigue; and his brother, Francis Vigue.

At Bob’s request there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 11 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church, 26 Monument St., Winslow, with a burial at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, on Monday, January 28, 2019, at noon.

ALBION – Paula Lynn Fletcher, 62, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, following a long illness. She was born in Lewiston on May 19, 1956, the daughter of Alfred and Rebecca (Pinkham) Day of Turner.

She lived in Albion with her husband Mike and daughter Katie. She worked as a healthcare provider at the house in Shawmut for many years before becoming a stay at home mom. She loved doing crafts and spending time with her family. She was very close to her family and was beloved by everyone.

She was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Rebecca Day; her sons, Travis and Shawn; her brother, Alfred Day III, and her sisters-in-law, Janet Davis and Elaine Dion.

She is survived by her husband, Mike; her daughter, Katie; her sisters, Pauline Day, Patti Day, Ellen (Cliff) Richardson and Bea (Benny) Jacques, her brothers, Michael (Lesley) Day, Walter (Kerry) Day, and Randy (Lynn) Day. her in-laws, Nancy (Bob) Fletcher, Margaret (Jim) Lehay, Betty Fletcher, William (Elizabeth) Fletcher, Marion Ewen, Penny (Michael) Fletcher, Todd (Cindy) Fletcher, and Mark (Melissa) Fletcher; and many nieces and nephews.

ALTON FRENCH

UNITY – Alton “Dan” French, 84, of Locust Lane, Unity, died Thursday, January 10, 2019. He was born August 27, 1934, in Bangor, son of Alton L. and Katharyn (Brown) French.

Dan was educated in the Bangor elementary schools, Fairmount and Fifth Street Junior High. He attended Tabor Academy, Marion, Massachusetts, graduated from Higgins Classical Institute, Charleston, and majored in business administration at Husson College, now Husson University, Bangor.

He married the former Lynn Marks in 1968.

Dan was a 50 plus-year member of Rising Virtue Lodge #10, A.F & A.M, of Bangor and affiliated and charter member of Seminary Hill Daylight Lodge #220 A.F. & A.M., also of Bangor. He was a past member of Royal Arch Masons chapter #75, Hampden, Bangor Council #5, Pasestine Commandery #14, Belfast, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Bangor, Maine Consistory 32 °, former director of Anah Shriners, Bangor, and RO.J. Court #150 (Director 2000), Bangor.

Dan was employed several years as a sales representative for Timberland Machines Inc., distributors of forestry equipment and Ski-Doo Snowmobiles from their Bangor office. In 1969, Dan joined Chadwick-Baross as branch manager of their heavy construction equipment facility in Bangor. He created the Forestry Equipment Division of Chadwick-Baross and became manager of that division until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the Maine Forest Product Council, New England Regional Council on Forest Engineering, American Loggers Council, American Pulpwood Association, Canadian Pulp & Paper Association (Forestry Group). Dan was co-founder of the Industrial Forest Forum and president for two terms. The forum serves logging contractors, large and small, sawmill representatives, pulp and paper company representatives, and owners and equipment dealers in Maine and New Hampshire.

Dan was an outstanding baseball player both as a pitcher and infielder. After graduating from school he played third base and shortstop for the Brewer Athetic Club, semi-pro baseball team in the Eastern Maine League. The Brewer A.C.’s won the league championship several times. He later played shortstop for Grant’s Dairy, fast pitch softball team in the Bangor City League. Grant’s Dairy won the local and state championship titles four times in five years. After retiring from baseball and softball, he became an avid golfer. Dan was a member of the Waterville Country Club for 20 years, served on the board of directors three terms, and also a member of the Eastern Maine Seniors Golf Association and was president for three years. He enjoyed his final years of golf at J.W. Parks Golf Club, in Pittsfield. He was a past member of the Great Farm Rifle Club, in Jackson, and served on the board of directors.

Dan enjoyed music from the Big Band Era of the ‘40s and ‘50s, the sounds, songs and singers, along with jazz, blues and music of New Orleans.

Dan was predeceased by his parents; a brother, David; and his wife, Lynn (Marks) French.

Surviving are his daughter, Audrey Bishop and her husband, John, of Augusta; two sons, Andrew French, of Nashville, Tennessee, and Michael French and his wife Valerie, of Unity; two grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; several nieces, nephews; and cousins.

A private family interment with Masonic services will be conducted by the officers and members of Rising Virtue Lodge #10 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, later in the spring.

RANDOLPH HALLEE

WINSLOW – Randolph “Randy” Hallee, 75, of Winslow passed on Friday, January11, 2019. He was born in Waterville on November 6, 1943, the third child of Ruth (Dionne) and Reny Hallee.

He was educated in local schools and served in the U.S. Army. He worked as an iron worker, then for Central Maine Railroad and was self-employed with his own garage. Randy was a man who was self-aware and humble and also a truly free-spirited, free-thinking and considerate man. He had the gift of being able to see the best and accept others just as they were. He was compassionate and forgiving. He also had the gift of wisdom – being able to listen, reflect and offer insight in a gentle way, which sometimes revealed him as a man of contradictions. He was a supportive father and friend who knew how to say, “I love you.”

Randy is survived by his only son, Rodney Hallee; his grandchildren, Shea Hartford, Savanna Alley, Ryley Hartford-Hallee; his sister and best friend, Rebecca Genest; his brother, Robert Hallee; his sister, Rachel Hallee Bourgoin; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Rodney R. Hallee.

DARLENE F. HALLEE

WATERVILLE – Darlene F. (Williamson) Hallee, 79, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at her home in Waterville. She was born February 16, 1939, in Waterville, the daughter of Delmont and Barbara (Knowlton) Williamson.

She was educated in the schools of Waterville and graduated from Waterville High School, class of 1956. She participated in several school activities. Following graduation, she went to work at a local savings and loan company, in Waterville. She married her high school sweetheart, Fran Hallee, on November 30, 1957, at Sacred Heart Church, in Waterville. Darlene began working at Colby College in 1972 and retired after 28 years.

Darlene and Fran loved spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including camping trips and vacations. She also enjoyed spending time with her craft girls and playing volleyball. She participated in several community events. Fran and Darlene took many wonderful trips together.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Fran Hallee, of Waterville; four children, Kathy White and husband, Wayne, Michael Hallee and wife, Patty, Bruce Hallee and wife, Jen, and Chris Hallee and Diane Glidden; grandchildren, Luke, Shelly, Jacob, Shannon, Josh, Erica, Chad, Sean, Matt, Kris, Hannah, Kara, Meghan, and Danielle; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Jackson, Owen, Griffin, Brinley, Callahan and Coby; sister, Beverly Lilley and husband, Ken; many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

JON. T. MISNER, 53, of Waterville, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta.

Jon was executive director of the Waterville Opera House from 1998 to 2005. He was responsible for bringing Missoula Children’s Theater to the Opera Houae, a program that continues today. He was also a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

BENTON – Kathy Marie (Chase) Horne, 51, passed away Monday, December 24, 2018, at Maine Medical Center, in Portland. She was born August 14, 1967, in Waterville, the daughter of Kenneth L. and Vivian G. (Crowe) Chase.

She was educated in the schools of Waterville and graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, in 1985. On June 29, 1997, she married Scott Horne, in Benton. Kathy was a homemaker and self-employed owner of Wild Things Live Bait with her husband. She enjoyed NASCAR, hunting, fishing, lobstering, and being a grandmother.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 21 years, Scott R. Horne, of Benton; son, Kenneth Violette, of Benton; daughter, Dawn Pike, of Benton; granddaughter, Violet Rose Pike, of Benton; grandson, Hunter Scott Pike, of Benton; two sisters, Lisa Raymond and husband Larry, of Plymouth, Donna Chase and partner Jerry Adams, of Fairfield; two nephews, Calvin Cobb and wife Jazzmine, of Sangerville, William Halley, of Fairfield; two nieces, Reva Reynolds and partner Jamie Ferguson, of Oswago, New York, Shaina Halley and partner Dylan Kay, of Fairfield.

NORMAN R. NICHOLAS

WINSLOW – Norman Richard Nicholas, 81, passed away Monday, December 24, 2018, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta. He was born August 16, 1937, in Waterville, the son of Joseph and Bernadette (Ducas) Nicholas.

He was educated in the schools of Waterville and graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, in 1956. On February 11, 1957, he married Farolyn McLaughlin, in Hartford, Connecticut. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United Stated Army until his honorable discharge. He was employed by the Kennebec Water District (River Crew) from 1960 to 1965, then as a lineman for Central Maine Power Company from 1965 to 1998.

Norman was a member of the VFW, Elks, IBEW and helped establish the Winslow American Little League program and the Winslow Midget Football program. He enjoyed fishing Lake Moxie and Indian Pond, hunting at the hunting camp in Unity, playing cribbage with friends at the VFW or Elks club.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Farolyn (McLaughlin) Nicholas of Winslow; two sons, Bruce Nicholas and wife Cindy, of Auburn, Bryan Nicholas and wife Sandy, of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren, Taylor, Cody, and Noah, all of Auburn, Nolan and Taylor, both of Orlando, Florida. He was predeceased by five sisters, Marion Will, Jeanette King, Adeline Paquette, Cecile Siviski, and Regina Gall; 4 brothers, Leo, William “Hank”, Edward “Kiko,” and Robert.

FAIRFIELD – Phyllis A. Ames, 74, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018, at her home. She was born October 13, 1944, in Waterville, the daughter of Earl and Zenaide (Paradis) Gilbert.

She was educated in the schools of Winslow and was employed for many years at Pleasant Hill, in Fairfield, as a cook and also worked at Scott Paper Co., in Winslow. She was a member of the VFW and St. John the Baptist Church, in Winslow, and enjoyed playing bingo, going to Foxwoods to gamble, playing cribbage, camping each year on China Lake, and the annual trip to Old Orchard Beach with her gang.

Phyllis is survived by her son, Richard Willette, of Fairfield; sister, Beverly Quirion and husband James; grandson, Phillip Willette; losts of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RHODE ISLAND – Norval Edwin Garnett, Sr., 93, formerly of East Greenwich, Rhode Island and South China, died on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at South Kingstown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, in West Kingston, Rhode Island.

He was born on August 8, 1925, in his family home in Edgewood, Rhode Island, the son of the late Stanley I. Garnett and Ada (Willmott) Garnett.

Norval was educated in the Cranston school system graduating from Cranston High School in 1943. Enlisting in the service in 1943 he proudly served three years in the U.S. Army Infantry in England (SHAEF) and France. After his years in the service he prepped at Moses Brown School. Norval began his college studies the following fall at Colby College, in Waterville, graduating in 1951. He met his life-long partner and wife, Norma A. Bergquist, at Colby College.

He spent the last 31 years of his career in the Trust Department of the Industrial National Bank, later Fleet Bank, in Providence, Rhode Island, as a trust officer, retiring in 1989.

Norval had been active in the United Methodist Church of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, serving on various boards and committees. He was also an active summer member of the South China Community Church, in South China. Norval and his wife, Norma, enjoyed spending time with their friends and family at their summer home at Killdeer Point, on China Lake. They also enjoyed yearly trips abroad, particularly those to Spain.

He was a member and Past Master of Corinthian Lodge #27 F. & A.M., now affiliated with St. Johns Lodge #1, Providence, and was also a member of Calvary Commandery #13 Knights Templar.

He was predeceased by his wife, Norma Ann (Bergquist) Garnett; a sister, Virginia E. Garnett and brothers, Stanley A. Garnett, Allan W. “Joe” Garnett and Richard H. Garnett; nephews Bradford L. Garnett and Douglas D. Bergquist.

He is survived by four children: Norval E. Garnett, Jr. and his wife Karen, of East Greenwich, Nancy P. Garnett-Thomas, of East Greenwich, Nils A. Garnett and his wife Fawn, of Burien, Washington, and Neale V. Garnett-Turgeon, of Sun City Center, Florida; brother-in-law David Bergquist and his wife Candy; grandchildren: Christina J. PHILLIP W. CARTER

BENTON – Phillip W. Carter, 94, of Benton passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Oak Grove Center, in Waterville. He was born in Fairfield on June 15, 1924, the son of Raymond and Mary Jane (Foster) Carter.

He attended the Fairfield school system. On November 8, 1942, he married the former Virginia E. Getchell. They had 65 years together. Phil was a World War II veteran. He spent most of his working career as a mechanic, opening his own garage, Phil Carter’s Garage, in 1960. The garage is still going strong today under the ownership of his son, Larry Carter.

He was a devoted member of the Shawmut Chapel since 1958. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows and constable of Benton. His favorite pastime was doing puzzles, and he enjoyed his time with family at the camp on Morrill Pond, in Hartland.

He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia; his siblings, Hillman, Laura Bray, Mason, Luella Fortin, and R. Zalisco.

Phil is survived by his children, Wyonne Linnell, Glenys L. Michaud and her soul mate, Thomas Hunter Jr., and Larry P. Carter and his wife, Gladys; his grandchildren, Eric Linnell and his wife, Angie, Tammy Fuller and her husband, Rick, Patrick Linnell and his wife, Bette-Jean, Stephanie Mason and her husband, Ken, Dorothy Linnell-Richardson and her husband, Wes, Jonathan Whitcomb, Christine Oliver and her husband, Gary, Elizabeth Hubbard and her husband, Carlton, Penelope Carter, and Adam Carter and his significant other, Shantel Grenier; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

VIRGINIA L. DOW

ALBION – Virginia Lorraine (Whynott) Dow, 96, longtime Albion resident, died on Sunday, December 30, 2018, at Maine Gene­ral Medical Center, in Augusta, following a brief hospitalization. Virginia was born on October 1, 1922, in Portland.

She settled in Albion where she attended Besse High School. She married Ervin S. Dow on November 5, 1940, and they celebrated 67 years of marriage before she was widowed in 2008. At various times Virginia held employment at the local school lunch program, and at the Albion Creamery. Virginia and Ervin established a home on the East Benton Road, in Albion, where she was mother to four children. Her love and support enabled all of her children to continue their educations beyond Besse High, and she and Ervin were so proud to attend each of their college graduations. Her neighbors during the 64 years that she lived on the East Benton Road became cherished friends. Virginia made certain that everyone in her family had a “Grammie Dow Quilt,” and these are treasured by all. She kept her fingers busy knitting and crocheting, and her biscuits and donuts were wonderful. She often sent visitors home with gifts of jams or pickles. Virginia loved her flower garden, and would often be found outside gardening. Her loving and giving nature touched everyone who knew her.

She and Ervin enjoyed traveling with family members and friends to many sites throughout Maine and the northeastern U.S., as well as to Nova Scotia, Florida, Alaska, and Arizona. Virginia had been deeply involved in her community through PTA, Albion Fire Department Auxiliary, as a member of the Albion Christian Church, Rebekah Lodge of IOOF, Grange, and as a life member of the Albion Historical Society. In her later years Virginia lived at Meadow By The Brook apartments, in Albion, then she received superlative care in the home of her daughter Pearle and son-in-law Jack Brake, in Clinton.

Virginia is survived by her four children and their families: E. EDWARD DEVITO

SOUTH CHINA – Edward “Eddie” Devito, 54, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta, following a brief but fierce fight with cancer. He was born February 3, 1964, in Manhattan, New York, the son of Vito E. And Marion (Linerello) Devito.

His friends were his family, and are too numerous to mention, you know who you are. All his women friends he call “Ma,” his guy friends were “Brother.” Those near and dear had their own special term. One special person should be mentioned, his girlfriend, Dawn Cook.

Golf was a true passion for Ed, a long-time member of Natanis Golf Club, in Vassalboro, and many of his closest friends were his golf buddies.

Ed was a career letter carrier whose career began in Brighton Beach, New York, then he transferred to Waterville and developed a close postal family. His eclectic taste in music, from Metallica to Lyle Lovett, endeared him to everyone who attended the many shows with him. He also enjoyed muscle cars, St. Bernards, cigars and watching sports.

A “larger than life” character in every sense of the word, his humor brought tears of laughter. He was one of those rare individuals who touched lives so deeply he could never be forgotten.

A celebration of his life in true Ed fashion will be held in the spring with a date and time to be announced at a later date.

FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA – Donald Craig Pottle, 59, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018, in Fort Pierce, Florida. He was born on April 5, 1959, to Lawrence and Hester Pottle.

He worked in construction.

Donnie loved to garden and going fishing.

He was predeceased by his parents, and a sister, Valerie Costain.

He is survived by his brothers, Larry Pottle and wife Audrey, Allan Pottle and Gerry Pottle; sisters Janice Harmon and Linda Douglas and husband Steve; brother-in-law Robert Costain; aunts Thelma Seaman, Julia Raven, Faye Pottle, and uncle Bill Peavey; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be held in the spring at Benton Cemetery, in Benton.

MARILYN A. MAHEU

WINSLOW — Marilyn A. (Thompson) Maheu, 82, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at Glenridge Nursing Home, Augusta. Marilyn was born in Livermore Falls, on August 29, 1936, the daughter of Merton and Louise (Hessmer) Thompson.

Marilyn graduated from Waterville High School in 1954 and married Donald Maheu at Notre Dame Catholic Church, in Waterville, that same year.

She was employed at Fishman’s Department Store, Waterville.

Marilyn was a homemaker until her children were in high school, as her family was everything to her. In 1973, Marilyn became head cook at Winslow High School where she worked for 22 years.

Marilyn was an avid sports fan. She loved her Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. She loved to cook and bake. Her baking corner was never empty.

Marilyn loved to attend local football, basketball games, dance and musical recitals to watch her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved music and riding with her husband to the coast to eat ice cream. Marilyn especially enjoyed her Wednesday night suppers with her McDonald’s friends. They laughed the whole night long. Marilyn loved it when her neighbors would stop by. To her, they were family.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents; brother, Ralph Thompson; sister, Frances (Thompson) Roberts; brothers-in-law, Robert, Adolph, George and Napolean Maheu and Pete Boutin; sisters-in-law, Violet Fecteau, Geraldine Flibbert, Rose Roy and Florence Pooler.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 64 years, Donald; daughter, Paula(Maheu) Caron, of Waterville; son, Marc and wife, Denise Maheu, of Fairfield; grandchildren, Jennifer and husband, Leonard Lamoreau, of Poland, Jason Caron, of Waterville, and Jack Maheu, of Fairfield; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Isabelle and Annabelle Lamoreau, all of Poland; sisters-in-law, Nancy Maheu, of Winslow, Pearl Ahearn, of Middleboro, Massachusetts, and Shirley (Thompson) Price, of Tallmadge, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.

SR. CECILE CHAGNON CSJ

WINSLOW – Sr. Cecile Chagnon CSJ, 94, (known to her many students as Sr. Claire Yvonne) died Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Lakewood Manor, Waterville.

Cecile was born June 21, 1924, in South Berwick, the daughter of Omer and Yvonne (Parent) Chagnon. The family moved to Somerville, Massachusetts, when Cecile was very young. Her elementary education was in Somerville, and then high school at the Academy of St. Joseph, in South Berwick. Cecile returned to Massachusetts and attended Regis College, in Weston, where she received her B.A. in nutrition and administration. From 1946 to 1947, Cecile worked at the Leonard Morse Hospital, in Natick, Massachusetts.

In 1947, she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Lyon, pronouncing first vows on June 26, 1949.

Sr. Cecile continued her education and graduated from the University of Maine with a masters in education in 1959. During the summers of 1960 and 1961, she attended Providence College where she earned a certificate in theology. In 1964, she spent the summer at the Catholic University, in Paris, France, and in 1971 she earned her masters in health care administration from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

Sister’s various teaching assignments included Holy Family School, in Lewiston, Sacred Heart School,in Auburn, as principal and Sacred Heart Academy, in Jackman, where she was both teacher and principal for 16 years.

Sr. Cecile’s last assignment was at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, in Waterville, where she was administrator for 17 years and continued for eight more years as consultant in the dietary department.

While at Mount St. Joseph, Sr. Cecile was a member of various local and national health care boards and was a member of the American Health Care Association, being elected both vice president and president. She was a member of the Diocesan Board of Education, served as a consultant for several area nursing homes and as trustee at the Sunset Home for Women, in Waterville. Sr. Cecile was also involved in various leadership roles of her congregation. She worked with various committees and always remained active and interested in the life of the Maine Province. She attended and participated in two General Sessions in France and Switzerland, and one International Conference, in France.

Sister was an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed doing alterations and mending which brought many smiles: “to think someone would enjoy mending.” For a time, she sewed for friends and members of her community. She also enjoyed doing crafts, embroidery and quilting for St. John School fairs, in Winslow.

Sister Cecile enjoyed traveling and did so whenever the occasion presented itself. She read much.for religious enrichment, for professional updating and for enjoyment.

After retirement from Mount St. Joseph, she continued to visit and serve many elderly with advice relating to health care. She offered prayers, support and visited her many elderly friends. During her retirement years, she delivered meals for the Spectrum Generation, Muskie Center, in Waterville, was involved in promoting the South End Teen Center, in Waterville, and often present at church and civic functions.

Many of Sr. Cecile’s students from her teaching years in Jackman continued to call, write and visit regularly. On her 90th birthday, five of her students from four different states attended Mass with her and celebrated with lunch.

Sr. Cecile was predeceased by her parents; and siblings, Paul, Claire Viel and George; two nephews, Gary and Bruce Viel.

She is survived by several nieces, nephews; and a sister-in-law.

CHARLES ADAMS

LIBERTY – Charlie H. Adams, 76, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2018, at his home. Charlie was born on April 8, 1942, to Charles Burgess and Thelma Adams, of Unity Plantation, where he grew up helping his father on the farm while attending local schools.

As an adult, Charlie was a resident of Liberty where he made his home with his wife, of 44 years, Paula (Edgecomb) Adams. He retired in 2006 from what is now, Cives Steel, in Augusta, after 38 years. During this time, Charlie also operated his own business for many years, Charlie’s Rubbish Removal. His CB handle was “Stovepipe.” He was a member of the Liberty Masonic Lodge #0111.

Some of Charlie’s favorite pastimes were going on hunting and fishing trips, riding his ATV and snowmobiling – heading out to wherever he happened to end up. Sometimes he only ended up in trouble, but he always came back with great stories to tell Paula when he made his way home.

He was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Lisa “Benny” Collins; sister, Shirly Rickards; brother-in-law, Richard Reynolds; sister-in-law, Joyce Mehuren and her husband, John; brothers-in-law, Bobby, Charlie, Dale and Bunk Edgecomb.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Paula; his daughters, Michelle Toulouse and husband Mark, of Augusta, Hidie Faulkingham and her husband, Tony, of Belfast; son-in-law, Rob Collins, of Windsor; two granddaughters, Kelei and Kayel Faulkingham, of Belfast; sister, Geraldine Reynolds; sisters-in-law, Nancy, Marie and Sandra Edgecomb. Laura Weeks and partner Jack, Priscilla Cash and her husband Denis; several nieces and nephews.

LAWRENCE B. MURRAY

FAIRFIELD – Lawrence B. Murray, 60, of Fairfield passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018, following a long battle with cancer and other illnesses, at Inland Hospital, in Waterville. He was born in Waterville on June 18, 1958, the son of the late Bernard L. and Virginia (Hanson) Murray.

Lawrence married the former Alice M. Glidden on July 6, 1986.

His employment included lube technician, custodian, and paper carrier until his illnesses prevented him from working.

Lawrence was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing, especially at Joe Hole at Moxie Falls, McDougal Pond, and Kingsbury, Lawrence loved his Lawrence Bulldogs. He also loved spending time with his family, especially the children. He also enjoyed canoeing the Kennebec River, and all types of birds and animals.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Brenda A. Alley; his uncle, Stanley Hanson; his stepson, Marcus Parsons Jr.; and his great nephews, Antoine Rowe and Terrance D. “TJ” Ladd Jr.

Lawrence will be sadly missed by his wife, Alice, of Fairfield; his stepson, Joseph Coombs and his wife, Jennifer, and their children, Leontine, Gage, and Dean, of Texas; his nephews, Durwood Beckwith Jr., of Hinckley and Shawn Beckwith and his wife, Rebecca, of Madison; his nieces, Michelle Beckwith and her companion, Richard Tracy, of Skowhegan and Angela Beckwith, of Vassalboro; his great-nieces, Nakai, Harmony, Emma, and Aubrie; and his sister-in-law, Sandra Noonon, of Fairfield.

PAULINE M RIENDEAU

WINDSOR––Pauline Marie (Lachance) Riendeau, 71, of Windsor, passed away Friday, November 23, 2018, at her Windsor home. Pauline was born on November 2, 1947, in Augusta, the daughter of Adelbert and Bertha (Gilbert) Lachance.

Pauline attended St. Augustine school in Augusta. She married Gerald Riendeau on February 5, 1966, in Hartford, Connecticut.

Pauline was a kind, loving and gentle soul who enjoyed spending her days with family and friends. She was a stay-at-home mom most of her years until starting her retail career at WalMart until retirement.

She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her church “family”. Her presence will certainly be missed at the Augusta WalMart where she had made many friends over her years there.

She was predeceased by her parents; two sisters, Lucille Bastille and Simone Riendeau; and two brothers, Norman and Roland; step-granddaughter, Ashley Rideout.

Pauline is survived by her husband, Gerald; brothers, Donald Lachance, of Jackman, and Claremont, Florida, Richard Lachance, his wife Brenda, of Randolph, Robert Lachance and his wife Gerene, of Augusta; a son, Roland Riendeau and his wife, Melanie, of Newcastle and their children, Eric and Chelsey; great-grandchildren, Connor and Erza; daughter, Linda Szabo, and husband Richard, of China, and their children, Michael and Dixie; daughter, Nancy Crockett, and her fiance, Edward Pollard, of Windsor, and their children, Samantha, Jeffrey and Scarlett.

ROXIE M. CLEMENT

FAIRFIELD––Roxie May Clement, 60, passed away at her family residence in Fairfield on Friday, November 23, 2018. Roxie was born on December 12, 1957, at the Sisters Hospital, in Waterville, the daughter of Fred H. and Mary Grard, of Fairfield.

Roxie graduated from Lawrence High School in June 1976. She also attended the University of Maine Augusta from 1992-1994.

Over the years she was involved in many community groups and organizations. Family and community were extremely important to Roxie. She was an employee of Irving Oil Corp for over 20 years. Her spirituality was a cornerstone of who she was and how Fred and Mary raised her. She was a lifetime member of Corpus Christi Parish, in Waterville. In recent times she enjoyed her time at camp in New portland with her husband and son, Jesse. She loved her home improvement shows. She especially loved to help her niece, Sherry Wilson, of Benton, during maple Sunday. She loved being surrounded by family. She was loving, kind and gentle.

Roxie was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Mary Grard; her sister, Carol Bradstreet; her brother, John Grard; and her nephew, Fredrick Giroux.

Roxie is survived by her husband, Randy D. Clement, of Fairfield; her son, Joel T. and Amber Moran, of Pittston; her daughter, Kelli and Chris Ramsook, of Iwakuni, Japan; her daughter, Ashley M. STANLEY K. MATHIEU

WINSLOW––Stanley Kenneth Mathieu passed away at his home in Winslow, on Saturday, November 24, 2018. He was born in Winslow on November 4, 1935, the son of the late Wilfrid and Mary (Mae) O’Brien Mathieu.

He attended St. John Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated from Winslow High School in 1953. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Colby College in 1957, a master’s degree in history from the University of Maine in 1958 and several post graduate degrees from the University of Maine and Bowdoin college thereafter. In 1958 Stan married Mary Elizabeth (Story) Mathieu in Winslow.

Stan began his career teaching history and French in Groveton, New Hampshire. From 1961 until his retirement in 1999 Stan taught French, was a guidance counselor and also Director of Adult Education in the Waterville school system. Stan served in the U.S. Air Force, was a member of the 101st Maine Air National Guard and retired with the rank of major with 27 years of active and reserve duty in service to his country.

Stan spent summers remodeling and building homes in central Maine. in 1989 his company rebuilt Fort Halifax, in Winslow, following its destruction in the flood of 1987. For more than 25 years, before and after his retirement, Stan sponsored and chaperoned annual trips to Montreal and Quebec, Canada, for student taking foreign language courses at Waterville Junior High School.

Stan officiated at countless football and basketball games for local high school and college teams for more than 40 years, his last at the age of 65. He was president of a local credit union and general manager of Pine Ridge Golf Course, in Waterville, for many years. Stan was an accomplished bridge player, achieving the designation of Life Master.

In 2000, Stan married Janice Robertson Pooler with whom he enjoyed summers at their Winslow home on the Sebasticook River and winters at their second home in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Stan was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Story in 1998; his parents; and sisters, Lillian Mathieu Lever and Constance Mathieu Fedorovich.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Mathieu, of Winslow, and her eight children and grandchildren; his brothers Roland Mathieu, of Merced, California, and Robert Mathieu, of New Castle, Pennsylvania; his sisters Jean Cassidy, of Winslow, Diane McGowan, of Huntsville, Alabama, and Kathleen Turio, of Windham, as well as many nieces and nephews.

UNITY––Shawn J. Shorey, 46, died on Tuesday, November 28, 2018, at his home in Unity. He was born on November 20, 1971, in Waterville, the son of Robert and Jane (Greene) Shorey Jr.

He graduated with high honors froom Mr. View High School, in Thorndike, with the class of 1991,

Shawn had a great sense of humor and an awesome laugh. He took great pride in his long hair, not letting anyone convince him of getting a haircut. He was an avid collector of Coca Cola and had quite a few wheelchairs. He had a strong spirit and was determined to be self-sufficient, despite his life long struggle with cerebral palsy.

He was predeceased by his mother, Jane Greene; and his paternal grandparents, Robert and Leona Shorey Sr.

He is survived by his father, Robert Shorey Jr., of Unity; two brothers, Ronald Jackson, of Vermont, and Mark Jackson, of Belfast; grandmother, Virginia Spauldling, of Vassalboro; grandfather, Mervin Greene Sr., of Fairfield Center; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A graveside service will be held in the spring of 2019 at the Pond Cemetery in Unity.

MARY C. ROY

WINSLOW––Mary C. Roy passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. She was born in Portland, on September 19, 1933, the daughter of Caroline (Hyde) and Charles L. Rolfe.

Mary was raised from early childhood by George and Alice Stevens, and their family became her family. She graduated from Cony High School, in Augusta, in 1951.

Mary met Gerald, while working at Beneficial Finance. They were married April 6, 1953, in Augusta, and enjoyed their strong and abiding love for 61 years. After many years of raising and caring for their four daughters at their home in Waterville, Mary re-entered the workforce, first at Waterville High School, and then moving on to Colby College a few years later. She worked a variety of secretarial and executive positions there. She retired in 1988 after 20 years within the Colby community.

While working full time, she also juggled the schedules and activities of her four girls. For many years she enjoyed supporting Gerald in his work within the Lions Club.

Mary was able to enjoy early retirement and together she and Gerald traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada, eventually spending their winters in Naples, Florida.

Mary will be lovingly remembered for her warm family gatherings both large and small; her endless sewing talents that lovingly clothed her family and beautifully created prom and wedding dresses for her daughters and granddaughters, maintaining a meticulous but ever welcoming home; her perpetual sense of style; and her ever helping hands and heart.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; her parents, Caroline and Charles; as well as Alice and George Stevens; her sisters, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Rebecca; and brother, Jonathan; nephew, Kevin and an extensive family of in-laws.

Mary is survived by her daughters: Katherine and husband Eric Lambert, Christine and husband Randy Phair, Louise and husband Roger Collins, Annette Roy and husband Clayton Hoak; also grandchildren, Matthew (Cheryl) Lambert; Meredith (Matthew) Rego; Nicole (Nicholas) Rodway; Jeff Phair and partner Rachelle Black; Shandy Collins and fiancé Daniel Robbins; Samuel Collins and Benjamin Collins; as well as great-grandchildren Mitchell, Graham, and Vivenne; Abigail, Isabel and Landon; Alison; and Elianna; brother Daniel Stevens; sister-in-law Laurel Stevens; and a multitude of loving and well-loved nieces and nephews.

GRACE E. SPROUL

WINDSOR––Grace E. Sproul, 77, died Thursday, November 29, 2018, at the Oak Grove Center, Waterville, following a long illness. She was born in Gardiner on August 7, 1941, a daughter of the late Donald B. and Hazel B. (Cunningham) Jackson.

Mrs. Sproul was a graduate of Wiscasset High School and was a member of the Weeks Mills Advent Christian Church.

She had been employed as a Mental Health Worker III at the Augusta Mental Health Institute for 28 years. She had previously worked at Lipman Poultry, where she met her future husband Jimmy, and also worked at the Jefferson Elementary School in the kitchen.

Grace enjoyed her daily trips to Hussey’s General Store, playing cards and playing the lottery scratch tickets.

Mrs. Sproul was predeceased by her husband, James W. Sproul; a son, Gregory O. Brann and a sister, Nancy French.

She is survived by four children, Jeffrey S. Brann and his wife Leslie, of Nobleboro, Stanley R. Sproul and his wife, Cyndie, of Whitefield, Bradley J. Sproul and his wife Lisa, of East Waterboro and Sue E. Sproul and her partner Roland Brann, of Jefferson; a daughter-in-law Wendy Brann, of Randolph; two brothers Maurice Jackson and his wife Laverne, of Windsor, and Donald Jackson and his wife Trudy, of Harrollsville, North Carolina; three sisters Glennis Hutchinson, of Waterville, Rose White and her husband Phil, of New Port Richey, Florida, and Donna Jones and her husband Robert, of Jefferson; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
