FREDERICK W. SAUCIER

GIBSONTON, FLORIDA – Frederick W. Saucier, 88, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at his residence in Gibsonton, Florida. He was born on November 30, 1930, in Waterville, the son of Lionel and Leatha (Mann) Saucier.

He grew up in Vassalboro, the older brother to three sisters, Norma, Anne “Bobbi”, and Paulette. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1947 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17. Fred married his high school sweetheart Sybil (Fitch) on September 4, 1948.

Fred proudly served 26 years in the U.S. Marine Corps in active and reserve service and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served with the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines earning multiple decorations and commendations including the Bronze Star Medal “V”, and the combat action ribbon.

Sybil was the love of his life. They married at St. Bridget’s Church, in Vassalboro, and started their incredible adventure together. For 69 years they shared the love of a lifetime, a marriage filled with integrity, unwavering devotion, great joy and accomplishment.

Fred retired from the U.S. Marine Corps as a lieutenant colonel in 1971 and accepted a position at Billerica High School, in Billerica, Massachusetts, serving as senior military educator and infantry officer for JROTC Leadership program. He taught for 13 years, earning a bachelor of science at New Hampshire College along the way.

In 1977, Fred and Sybil bought Green Valley Campground, on Webber Pond, in Vassalboro. He loved the outdoors and wanted to share his love of camping with others to provide the best family camping experience. He and Sybil made friends ot of strangers over the years they owned the campground and created lifelong memories for so many.

After his retirement from teaching in 1984, he and Sybil spent the summers at Green Valley and in the fall, Fred would drive their motorhome to Florida for the winter. They would stay at the FamCamp on MacDill Air Force Base where they reunited with other snow birds. They enjoyed golfing, visiting with friends, going to the local concerts and shows, and relaxing by the beach. Every May they would make the trip back to Maine to open the campground for another season.

In 2002, after 25 years, Fred and Sybil sold Green Valley to their granddaughter, Tiffany, who owns and operates it today. Fred and Sybil continued to spend the summers on Webber Pond.

Fred contributed to many charities anonymously, including PBS and the Red Cross. Fred loved life! He loved music, singing and dancing, sailing and skiing, horseshoes and horses. He was a natural athlete and worthy competitor on the tennis and racquetball court, golf course, or playing kickball in the yard. He loved playing bridge, and poker with the guys, as well as cribbage and chess.

Fred was predeceased by his wife, Sybil; his infant son, Frederick and son-in-law, David.

He is survived by his four children: Crystal, Thomas, Alecia and Jamie; his son-in-law, Jed; eight grandchildren: Jason, Tiffany, Evan, Alivia, Matthew, Phoebe, Ryan and Michael; six great-grandchildren: Samantha, Cameron, Hunter, Hailie, KC, Evan, and Sebastian; his sister, Norma and brother-in-law, Roland; sisters, Anne “Bobbi”, and Paulette; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Fred and Sybil will be held June 21 at 1300 (1 pm) at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta. Reception immediately following at The Old Mill Place, 934 Main St, Vassalboro.

KAY F. TOZIER

UNITY – Kay Frances Fernald Tozier, 87, passed away in Raymond, New Hampshire, on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. Born May 21, 1932, in Troy, the daughter of Clyde and Marion Bragg Fernald, she lived in Troy for her early years including several years with her grandparents Medwin and Dora Fernald.

She also enjoyed time with her grandparents Oscar and Katie Bragg, her auntie Eula Bragg Knowlton, , and the Judson family. She graduated from Unity High School in 1949 and from Farmington State Teachers College in 1953.

Kay and Kenneth Elwood Tozier, Jr., were married June 26, 1954, and lived nearly all their married life in Unity. Kay was a teacher in Rockland, Scarborough, and for many years at Troy School where the library at the new school was dedicated to her.

She was a long-time member of Unity Union Church and the Noel Club, of Unity. She was a life-long learner and enjoyed reading, gardening, and travel. She traveled with the Farmington Alumni group for many years visiting some 30 countries. She was known for her compassion, generosity, patience, and subtle wit.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth “Babe” Tozier, Jr.

She is survived by her three children, Susan Tozier, of Raymond, New Hampshire. Joel Tozier and wife Nancy, of Sidney, and Deirdre Nash and husband Daniel, of Auburn, New Hampshire; and grandchildren Shelby Tozier, Ben Tozier, Amelia Nash and significant other Michael Gross and Meredith Nash Laliberte and husband Nick; brothers, James Fernald and wife Sally, nd Stephen Fernald and wife Barrie; sister-in-law Marilyn Tozier Owen and long-time companion Kenneth Phelps, of Largo, Florida; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Unity United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow at the Unity College Performing Arts Center, in Unity.

MARYELLEN JENNEY

OAKLAND – MaryEllen Jenney, 69, of Oakland, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, June 9, 2019, at Oak Grove Center in Waterville. She was born in Biddeford on April 17, 1950, the daughter of the late Joseph C. and Florence A. (McKay) Michaud.

MaryEllen attended the University of Maine and obtained a degree in history. She enjoyed traveling, baking cakes, and spending time with her family.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Christopher John Couture.

MaryEllen will be sadly missed by her husband, Lawrence Chase Jenney; her son, Joseph William Couture and his wife, Virginia; her three grandchildren, Joseph Couture II, Barbie Lynn Couture, and Tobby Bragdon; her brother, John Michaud; and two nieces and one nephew.

FRANCES N. BRANN

WINDSOR – Frances N. Brann, 78, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at the Alfond Center for Health. She was born on February 11, 1941, the daughter of the late Leland and Doris James, of Chelsea. She was one of 16 siblings, with only five now surviving.

Mrs. Brann was a graduate of Erskine Academy and was a homemaker for most of her life.

She was predeceased by a son, Mark E. Brann, Sr.

Frances will be remembered by her husband of 51 years, Clarence Brann; a son, Roland Dyer Jr. his wife, Tracy, and family of Wiscasset; her daughter, Joyce Gilbert and husband, Ralph and sons, of Chelsea; and son, Pat Brann and his wife, Kim and family, of Vassalboro; siblings Janice Sirois, of Connecticut, Donald James, Sr. and Jean Cunningham and husband, Ronald, of Pittston, David James and companion, Hope Plummer, of Windsor, 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

At her request, there will be a private family graveside service at a later date.

TAMMY R. JONES

FAIRFIELD – Tammy R. Jones, 48, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Central Maine Medical Center, in Lewiston. She was born January 8, 1971, in Lewiston, the daughter of Elizabeth R. Jones.

She graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, in 1990. She was a member of the Loving Caring Hands food Pantry. She started at the food pantry when it first opened in 2008. Tammy liked going to the powwow and dancing with her Native American family and had been going for 13 years. She liked making Native American jewelry, cooking, working with her computer, watching TV, going for walks and spending time with family and friends.

Tammy is survived by her significant other of 30 years, Alan Sabins, of Fairfield; sister-in-law Barbara Meservie, of Fairfield; brother-in-law Jim Sabins, of Skowhegan; sister Nikki Cahill, of Madison; brother Tommy Jones, of Madison; five nieces, Barbara Berry, Star Sabins and Jayme Sabins, all of Skowhegan, Ashley Corossan, of Madison, Tricia Corossan; two nephews, Walter Meservie, Aaron Corossan; five great-nieces; seven great-nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, July 5, 2019, at 10 a.m., at the Shawmut Chapel, 57 Bray Avenue, Shawmut.

IRENA K. YOCZ

WINSLOW – Irena K. Yocz, 79, of Winslow, died on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at her home. She was born on November 11, 1939, in Poland, a daughter of Zofia (Jablonska) and Wladyslaw Kasperowicz.

She came to the United States on February 14, 1963 and four months later, married Stanley Yocz. She is fondly remembered as a hardworking and fun mother of five children who also had a great love for her grandchildren.

Irena enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, biking, crocheting, knitting and cooking her polish “comfort” dishes for family and friends. She especially enjoyed her time at the family camp on China Lake where she would swim, relax around the camp fire or readily cook the catch of the day.

A woman of prayer and great faith she instilled in her children, by example, the importance of placing others first, being kind and speaking with words of love in Polish and an inviting smile.

Irena also loved looking through family photo albums which helped to keep her connected with her family near and far and would often send “care” packages to remind them they were being thought of in a special way. Trips to Poland were very poignant for Irena giving her the opportunity to reconnect with her family and friends whom she always truly loved. She belonged to Corpus Christi Parish at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church im Winslow, and the Winslow MacCrillis-Rousseau VFW Post #8835 Auxiliary.

Irena is survived by her five children: Daniel Yocz and his wife, Nicole, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, Lola Mender and her husband, Giovanni, of San Antonino, Texas, Alan Yocz, of Winslow, Eric Yocz and his wife, Jessica, of Scarborough, Irene Sophie Yocz and her husband, Derrickson Winslow Tensen, of North Yarmouth; her grandchildren: Connor, Zyla Irena, Memphis, Lydia Grace, Stella, Luke, Edward, Hayden Zofia; her niece, Ewa Rzyska-Lamarre and her husband Stephen and their daughter, Sabrina, of Winslow; her sisters, Zofia, Wiesia and Lonia, of Poland; her brother Jozef, of New York; as well as a large extended family.

GLENN B. MacDONALD

JEFFERSON – Major Glenn B. MacDonald, USAR (Ret) former network newsman and veteran wire-service reporter died at his home in Jefferson, on Sunday, May 26, 2019. Major MacDonald was born in Gardiner, February 26, 1947, the son of the late Mrs. Marian Graffam, of Rome, New York, and the late Judge Paul A. MacDonald, of Woolwich.

He was educated at Higgins Classical Institute, in Charleston, and the University of Maine in Augusta. He also graduated from many army service schools and won numerous journalistic awards as editor of Guard Life magazine.

He was also a retired major in the U.S. Army Reserve, having risen in the ranks as an enlisted man, non-commissioned officer, company grade and field grade officer. Major MacDonald was a U.S. Army combat correspondent in 1971 and 1973. He also covered fighting in Laos and Cambodia.

MacDonald was an ABC radio news correspondent in Saigon, Hong Kong, Manila and New York during the early to mid 1970s. He later was a staff writer and broadcast editor at The Associated Press, in Newark, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and New York City Bureaus of United Press International.

He was founder and editor of the website, militarycorruption.com; it’s mission was to fight for truth and expose the corrupt in the military. Beginning July 4, 2000, he wrote an article every 48 hours for the next 18 years. In failing health, he had no choice but to transfer the website to a trusted friend who picked up the baton and will carry it forward into the future.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Mrs. Faith Clark, of Rome, New York, and Mrs. Joyce Reed, of Boston, Massachusetts.

Major MacDonald is survived by his niece, Kimberly Pruitt, and nephews, Wesley Clark and Theodore Clark Jr.

HAROLD A. TARINI JR.

UNITY – Harold “Little Turk” Tarini Jr., 44, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. He was born in Derby, Connecticut, on August 12, 1974, the son of Harold and Sally Tarini.

He graduated from Mt. View High School, in Thorndike, and attended college at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree.

“Little Turk” enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father growing up. He enjoyed working in the technical field while living in Milford, Massachusetts. He also enjoyed spending time with his mother.

He is survived by his mother, Sally Tarini, of Unity, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

“Little Turk” was predeceased by his father, Harold “Turk” Tarini.

STEPHEN L. VERZONI

FAIRFIELD – Stephen Louis Verzoni, 65, of Fairfield, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, June 1, 2019. Stephen was born in Waterville on March 19, 1954, to Angelo and Estelle Verzoni.

He graduated from Waterville High School in 1972, where he excelled in football, and track and field. He majored in business at the University of Maine, Augusta, and worked as a territory manager for Altria for 32 years. Stephen was one of
the pioneering coaches of the Windham Youth Football Program. He enjoyed attending his stepsons’ and nephews’ various
sporting events, and he was an avid New York Giants football fan. He loved riding his motorcycle and spending time with family and his beloved dog Sadie.

He is survived by his mother, Estelle Verzoni Barnes; his brothers, Angelo Verzoni and wife Lisa, Richard Verzoni, and Peter Verzoni; and nephews, Richard, Jan, Angelo, and Anthony Verzoni; his former wife, Anne Verzoni; stepsons, Kevin Flaherty, Andrew Flaherty and wife Darcy; and grandchildren, Coleman, Carleigh, and Lucas Flaherty.

CARLA BOUCHARD

FAIRFIELD – Carla Bouchard, 72, of Fairfield, Maine passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019. Carla was born in Waterville on October 10, 1946, the daughter of Abel and Cecile (Pinnette) Levesque. She attended public schools in Waterville. She was formerly employed by Scott Paper Company, in Winslow, but spent the majority of her life taking care of her family.

Carla met her husband, Gerald Bouchard, 53 years ago at Scott Paper Company. They were introduced by Aunt Agnes Charland at the time clock with the whole crew watching. Their very first date was at the Fireman’s Baked Bean Supper on Lithgow Street, in Winslow. They were married later that year on December 3, 1966.

Carla had a great appreciation of art, music, singing, sewing, gardening, and was a crossword puzzle wizard. She and her husband Gerald took great pride in creating beautiful home decor, furniture, stained glass, and woodworking pieces. She was a private person, but when in a crowd she was the life of the party. Her inner spirit and will to live was incredibly strong.

Carla is survived by her husband Gerald Bouchard; daughters Michelle (Bouchard) Bickford and her husband Brian Bickford of Hopkinton, New Hampshire, and Nicole (Bouchard) Schmid and her husband John Schmid, of Windham; son Brian Bouchard and his wife Ann-Marie Gribbin-Bouchard, of Portland; many grandchildren, Sierra and Benjamin Bickford, Colby and Kyle Schmid, Jacob, Jonathan and Justin Bouchard; her siblings George Levesque and his wife Ellen, Ronald Levesque and his wife Sue, and Pamela Levesque.

Carla was predeceased by her parents Abel and Cecile Levesque, nephews Randy Levesque and Jamie Donahue, and brothers-in-law Ronald Bouchard and Laurier Bouchard.

CLAUDETTE J. PAQUETTE

BENTON – Claudette Joan (Elliott) Paquette, 85, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta. Claudette was born in Fairfield on August 3, 1933, to Claude & Doris (Pooler) Elliott.

She attended schools in Fairfield and graduated from Lawrence high school in 1951. Known to her friends as “Pinky,” she was a player on the Lawrence High School girls basketball team where she was awarded the Babe Ruth Sportsmanship medal. She passionately followed sports throughout her lifetime, as she loved watching the UConn women’s basketball team, the Duke Blue Devils men’s team and her Pittsburgh Steelers.

Claudette married Hilaire Paquette, of Winslow, on February 19, 1955, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, in Fairfield. Her marriage to an enlisted airman took her and their six children away from family and friends, moving every three years to various airbases from Maine to California. She was alone with the kids for months at a time due to Hilaire being shipped out of the country. During his year-long deployment to Vietnam, Claudette went to work at the Lestoil Plant, in Massachusetts. During this period of time, Jackie Libby (Claudette’s sister) and Maureena Sylvester, “Babysitter extraordinaire,” took turns staying with the children.

Upon Hilaire’s retirement from the service in 1972, the family moved back to Maine. Claudette continued to work as a millworker at Keyes Fibre (now Huhtamaki), in Waterville, until her retirement in 1986.

Claudette enjoyed shopping at “the K-Mart” and was especially fond of her “Thursday Date” with her son-in-law Paul, running errands, doing scratch tickets and ending the day at the Villager Restaurant, in Waterville, where she was spoiled by her friend, waitress Joann.

She loved being surrounded by her children and grandchildren, especially at her famous Christmas buffet which featured her home made toutiere pies, the kids’ favorite Banana-Split cake, and endless mounds of shrimp.

Claudette is survived by her husband of 64 years, Hilaire Paquette, of Benton, her six children: Angela (Paul) Cairnie, of Winslow; Paul (Joyce) Paquette, of Winter Springs Florida; Mike (Sue) Paquette, of Auburn; Cindy Paquette, of Benton; Jeff (Diane) Paquette, of Durham, New Hampshire; David Paquette, of Benton; and her brothers Daniel (Barb) Elliott, of Fairfield and Jerome (Helen) Elliott, of Waterville; grandchildren: Nicholas, Jeffrey Daniel, Aaron, Jason, Kelsey, Holly, Marissa, Sarah, Elizabeth and Hannah; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her sister (and best friend) Jackie Libby, and Jackie’s husband Delford.

A family graveside service will be held on June 29, at 11 a.m., at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, in Waterville. Friends are invited to join the family for the celebration of her life at the Winslow’s MacCrillis-Rousseau VFW Post #8835, at noon.

BEATRICE S. WITHAM

WINSLOW – Beatrice Spencer Witham, 94, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019. Beatrice was born on August 7, 1924, in East Benton. She was the daughter of Alfred and Dorothy (Stewart) Spencer.

Beatrice graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, class of 1942. She married William “Bill” Witham Sr., of Winslow, on November 18, 1945. They were married for 39 years, until the time of his death.

Bea lived a full and active life. One of Bea’s favorite things to do was to ride motorcycles with her sons, Ron and Bill Jr. Her last ride with Ron was when she was 85 years old.

On 8-8-88 at 8 o’clock, Bea married Arthur “Jack” Poissonnier. She enjoyed many years with Jack.

When Bea graduated from high school, she started working at Berry’s Stationary, in Waterville. Her next employment was at Cottle’s Supermarket, in Waterville, which eventually became Hannaford. Bea worked there as a cashier for over 25 years. Her customers voted for her to become the first ever “Employee of the Month.” All of her customers thought that she had a beautiful smile. Her family thinks so too. On Friday nights, her checkout line went all the way to the back of the store. Her customers gladly waited for her. They would say, “She is my favorite cashier.”

Beatrice was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Dorothy Spencer; husband, William T. Witham Sr.; sister, Mary Spencer Ackley; and brother, Robert Spencer.

Beatrice is survived by her four children, sons, Ronald Witham and wife, Paula, of Clinton, William T. Witham Jr. and wife, Therese, of Phoenix, Arizona, Michael Witham and wife, Susan, of Bath, and daughter, Diane Witham Poulin and husband, James, of Winslow; eight grandchildren, Bridgett Witham Redstone, of Remington, Indiana, William T. Witham III, of Phoenix, Arizona, Matt Witham, of Fairfield Center, Marc Witham, of Oakland, Jennie Poulin Franceschi, of Westbrook, Heather Poulin Cyr, of Bangor, Melissa Witham Olson, of Vassalboro, and Joshua Witham, of China; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

JEFFREY L. VARNEY

ALBION – Jeffrey L. Varney, 57, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019. Jeff was born on May 17, 1962, to Earl Obed and Beverly Varney, in Waterville.

He attended high school at Nokomis High School, in Newport, and Maine Central Institute, in Pittsfield, where he played football, and later received his GED from Waterville Adult Education.

Jeff spent his early years in the trees, working for Lucas Tree and Asplundh. Jeff moved on to becoming a “jack of all trades” and was regularly seen on roofs, building garages or fixing just about anything that came his way. His grandkids referred to him as “working grandpa,” which made him smile. He was always quick to lend anyone a hand, no matter what it took.

Jeff loved to spend time with his fishing pole and was never short on a good fish story. He had a passion for creating something unique for everyone. His talent for drawing, wood-burning and etching never ceased to amaze those around him. Jeff loved to bring out the guitar, especially during his favorite annual camping trip.

Jeff was able to fulfill his lifetime dream of seeing Alaska last year. He enjoyed every moment of the beautiful sights, taking endless photos. Jeff tried feeding a bear some cookies and caught the biggest fish of his life – no fish story there!

Elaine vacationed every summer at Pattee Pond, in Winslow, where she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. WINSLOW – Juliette M. (Michaud) Potelle, 87, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2019, at Inland Hospital, in Waterville. She was born November 18, 1931, in Frenchville, the daughter of Wilfred and Delia (Caron) Michaud.

She was employed for 39 years at Keyes Fibre (now Huhtamaki), in Waterville.

Juliette is survived by two daughters, Linda Anderson and husband Charles, of Benton, Judy Libby and wife Carmen Welch, of Skowhegan; son, Jeffrey Potelle and wife Susan, of Rago, Kansas.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

MARRIANNE POTTER

SOMERVILLE – Marrianne (Anne) Potter, 60, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019. She was born in Somerville on November 12, 1958, the youngest daughter of Forest and Delia (Smith) Peaslee.

Anne, attended Erskine Academy, in South China, where she met the love of her life, Richard. The two just celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary last fall. Anne attended the University of Maine at Augusta, where she majored in childhood education. She loved working with children and in her later years, she spent her days working as an Ed Tech at Jefferson Village School.

Anne was a gifted quilter and seamstress. Creating curtains, quilts, and other home furnishing. An avid baker and cook, she was often trying new recipes and sharing with others. During the holidays, she would create gift baskets with homemade fudge, jams and relishes, that she and Richard made together. She was a creative, sentimental and giving person. For several years, she and Richard enjoyed a seasonal campsite at Green Valley Campground, in Vassalboro. Anne enjoyed the themed weekends of decorating the camper and campsite. She volunteered for various community events, which included story telling and arts and crafts. Reading and coloring were a favorite past time of hers too.

Anne had many accomplishments that she was proud of. Keeping a well-kept home, preparing meals, sharing conversations at the dinner table, spending time with Richard on the road for work and keeping his gardens in top shape when he was away. Her “grandbabies” were her pride and joy

Anne was predeceased by her husband Richard, in January, a daughter, Tarasa Potter; her father and mother, Forest and Delia Peaslee, her brothers, Frank, Frederick, and Peter.

She is survived by her two daughters: Angimarie and her husband Lewie, Karrianne and her husband Jason; two sons: Zeb and his wife Danica, Smitty and his wife Kim; her mother-in-law, Ramona; five grandchildren: Connor, Logan, Audrey, Bradley and Matthew; brothers Kenny, Forest, Larry, Neil, Dannie, Hunter and her sisters, Jane, Bunny and Ceceil, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At her request, there will be no public visiting hours. Following cremation, a memorial will be held early this summer.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations in Anne’s name can be made to MaineGeneral Health and Substance Abuse Services.

WOODROW W. MCLELLAN JR.

SIDNEY – Woodrow W. McLellan Jr., of Sidney, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019, following a long illness. He was born on May 19, 1945, the son of Woodrow William McLellan and Gladys June McLellan.

Woodrow graduated from Williams High School, in Oakland. Following his schooling he joined the Army in September of 1963, serving for three years. He spent 30 months in Germany.

He was very proud of the fact that he had many truck driving jobs with no accidents.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Chandra McLellan; his sons, Woodrow William McLellan III and his spouse Townley “Chip” Baker McLellan, David Allen McLellan and his wife Laurie McLellan, and David Lee Rossignol; his daughters, Tina Rodrigue and her husband Jeremy, and Samantha Tims and her husband Kevin; his seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine Hamlin and her husband Phil, and Lulu “Cookie” Luce and her husband Floyd; two brothers, Frank McLellan and his wife Tina, and Clifton McLellan and his significant other Constance; his sister-in-law, Germaine McLellan; a multitude of nieces and nephews; and in-laws.

Woodrow was predeceased by his brother, Thomas McLellan.

RICHARD GRENIER

WINSLOW – Richard Eugene Grenier, 83, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019, at Goudreau’s Retirement Inn, in Winslow. He was born March 9, 1936, in Waterville, the son of Wilbrod and Cecile (Libby) Grenier.

He was educated in Waterville and Winslow schools. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps from 1955 to his honorable discharge in 1957.

Dick was employed by Keyes Fibre, in Waterville, for 32 years. He was a member of the American Legion Bourque-Lanigan Post #5, in Waterville. He enjoyed camping at Cathedral Pines for 50 years where he met many new friends who became his camp family and even naming a road to honor him. He loved driving the back roads and going to Big Jim. In his younger days he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing hunting, snowmobiling, and other outdoor activities. He enjoyed spending time with his families and was very proud of his two granddaughters, Stasha and Tia. who enlisted and graduated as Master Sargent from the Young Marines.

He is survived by his sister, RaeJean (Grenier) Beane and her partner Dickie Pullen and three nephews, Richard, Rusty and Roger, all of the Bingham area; two stepsisters, Theresa and George Savage, of Sidney, and Alice and Skip Sherburne, of Milfred; one uncle, Raymond Grenier, of Winslow; his five daughters Dawn Bilodeau, of Boynton Beach, Florida, Tammy and Buster Hopkins, of Plymouth, Catherine Nelson, of Canaan, Connie and Red Laliberte, of Sidney, and Lori Barnard, of Winslow; his nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Dianne; his parents, Wilbrod and Cecile; his stepfather, Lionel (Ned) Betit; a daughter, Cynthia; and his son-in-laws Paul Bilodeau and Ronald Nelson.

TIMOTHY J. BECK

VASSALBORO – Timothy James Beck, 44, formerly of Palermo, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019, in Whitefield. He was born in Waterville on June 21, 1974, the son of Gary and Gloria (Scates) Beck.

He lived most of his life in Palermo, attended Palermo elementary schools, then graduated from Cony High School, in Augusta.

Tim loved the outdoors–hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, and riding his motorcycle. He was an excellent stone mason. Tim was also a very talented musician, who loved writing songs and performing with friends. He will be remembered for his big heart and willingness to help others.

Tim is survived by his parents, Gary and Gloria Beck, of Sun City, Arizona; his sister Trisha Beck, of North Vassalboro; his niece Samantha Decker and great-nephew Noah Paul Wood, both of North Vassalboro.

HELENE N. VIGUE, 98, formerly of Fairfield Center, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Harshwood Center, in Lewiston. Helene is the former executive director of the Waterville chapter of the American Red Cross. She previously worked at the C. F. Hathaway Shirt Factory, in Waterville.

DONALD B. CLARK

WINSLOW – Donald B. Clark, 58, of Winslow, died Saturday,  March 30, 2019, at his home in Winslow. He was born in Key West, Florida, on December 9, 1960, the son of Beatrice and Alfred Clark.

He attended and graduated from Southern Aroostook High School before attending the University of Maine at Fort Kent.

After a couple of years, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a military policeman. Upon discharge, he attended the University of Vermont where he obtained his nursing degree and worked at Maine Medical Center, in Portland, and later at Civista Medical Center, in Maryland.

Don was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening and had a love of animals, especially dogs. He always had a special place in his heart for his long-term companions Heidi, the St. Bernard and Hutch, the hound dog. By far, Don’s greatest pleasure and the light and love of his life was always his daughter, Michelle. Although adversity with his mental health robbed of much of the joy life had to offer, Don will be remembered for his generosity, empathy, and his readiness to help anyone in need.

Don is survived by his daughter, Michelle Roy, of Caribou.

THERESE M. ROSSIGNOL

WINSLOW – Therese Rossignol, 89, a long-time resident of Winslow, died Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at Oak Grove Center, in Waterville. She was born to the late Edward and Feleine Roy on November 19, 1929, in Winslow.

On her journey she joined a sister, Jeanne Labonte, and a brother, Laurier.

Therese graduated from Winslow High School. She worked at Lockwood Cotton Mill, in Waterville, which later became C.F. Hathaway Shirt Factory, was a seamstress and a cake baker and decorator.

She was a homemaker, enjoyed cooking, having a camp, gardening, and carpentry. She camped over 28 years at Happy Horse Shoe, organized the senior cards on Wednesday nights and day trips and mostly enjoyed planning family gatherings.

Therese was married to Raymond over 70 years. On October 2, 1948, they were married at Saint John the Baptist Church, in Winslow.

She is survived by her husband Raymond; six children, Elaine Ron and husband Romiro, of Spain, Christine Nihtegale, of New Mexico, Claudette Nithsdale, of Winslow, Arthur and wife Deborah, of Skowhegan, George and wife Barbara, of Cornville, Anthony and wife Donna, of Winslow; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Estelle Duquette, of New Jersey and Jacqueline Bourque, of Jefferson; and many nieces and nephews.

The celebration of life for Therese will be Saturday, June 1, 9 a.m. at Saint John’s Church, Winslow. Her burial will be at Togus.

OAKLAND – George “Podgie” Leighton, 84, passed away unexpectedly at EMMC in Bangor on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. He was born in Waterville, on February 21, 1935, to George “Barney” and Gladys (Rushton) Leighton.

Podgie graduated from Williams High School, in Oakland, and served in the Naval Reserves and later enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany.

He worked as an iron worker for Local #496 for 33 years. He was a mail carrier and a local bus driver for a short time following his retirement.

Podgie had a lifelong love of airplanes and flying and was a licensed pilot for many years. In 1960, he married the former Ann Collier, they were together for 56 years.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, and his sister, Barbara.

He is survived by his children, Jody and husband Steve Knox, Todd and wife Dodie Leighton, Kathy LaPlante, and Toby and wife Melissa Leighton; grandchildren, Steve, Ashley and Cale Knox, Tara Roderigue and husband Jon, Dusty Leighton, Colby and Halee LaPlante, and Emily and Allison Leighton; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Cameron Roderigue; his brother, David and wife Jeannette Leighton; and many nieces and nephews.

FAIRFIELD – Patricia (Ryan-Alkas) Smith, 83, of Fairfield and formerly of Bristol, Connecticut, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019, at Mount Saint Joseph, in Waterville following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 31, 1935, in Bristol, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Edward and Victoria (Lozefski) Ryan.

She graduated from Terryville High School and then became a telephone switchboard operator. She also worked at Humason Manufacturing, Industrial Comp., Stanley Works, and eventually the Credit Union. Patricia then moved to Maine where she worked at Taconnet Federal Credit Union, in Winslow, and met and married Roger Smith. In her spare time, she enjoyed bird watching, traveling, baking and cooking, and especially fishing. She loved shopping for clothes, jewelry and shoes and wore her outfits with dignity and regality.

Patricia is survived by her husband Roger, of Fairfield; daughter Victoria Alkas and husband Henry Kozuch, of Enfield, Connecticut; sons Sam Alkas III, of Hudson, Florida, and Daniel Alkas and wife Debbie, of Granby, Connecticut; stepdaughter Valerie Elsworth and husband William, of Brewer; stepson, Timothy Smith and wife Sarah, of Bangor; grandchildren, Sabrina Badal, Samantha Hemmerich, Nate Elsworth, George Elsworth, Emma Smith, and Tana Smith; two great-grandchildren, James and Alex Hemmerich; brother, Donald Ryan and wife Geraldine; several nieces, and nephews.

WINSLOW – Rogelio Puente, 93, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019.

He served proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a talented craftsman and home builder in central New Jersey. He served diligently as the president of the Spanish Club, in Carteret, New Jersey, for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine.

He was the father of Valentina Dorgai and Roger Puente; grandfather of Jessica Dorgai and , Stephanie Minnich, Meredith Puente; and the great-grandfather of Joshua Paulo Minnich.

JOHN T. FISH

WINDSOR – John Turner Fish passed away at home, in Windsor on Friday, May 17, 2019. John had a long four-year battle with small cell cancer. He was born on June 25, 1948, in Damariscotta, the first born of twins. John was the son of Miles Amos Fish Jr. and Melissa (Turner) Fish.

He was raised in Jefferson and graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1966.

John joined the Air Force shortly after graduation and did two tours in Vietnam. After discharge, he worked for the Maine Department of Education, John began working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1987, first in Winthrop and then in Gardiner. He delivered mail in Gardiner, Randolph and Farmingdale for 27 years, until retiring in 2014.

John loved friendly competition, particularly when playing cribbage. He was still playing until a week before his death. John also enjoyed rummy, bridge, and golf.

He loved the yearly golf trip south with the guys, playing 36 holes daily. He was an avid music lover, especially Bob Dylan. John was also very proud to have more than 33 years of sobriety.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Robert Fish; and his son, Brandon Fish.

John is survived by his wife, Nancy (Walker) Fish and their children, Jason Walker, of Portland, Troy Fish, of Portland and Heather Wasik and her husband, Paul, of Washington, D.C.; four sisters, Catherine Walker, of Jefferson, Marjorie Baldwin and husband Bob, of Nobleboro; his twin, Joan Jackson, of Jefferson, and Nancy Pierce and husband Lynn, of Jefferson; and many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Fred Jackson, of Brooks.

LAWRENCE YOUNG

OAKLAND – On December 7, 2018, Larry Young, passed away following a lengthy illness, at the Maine Veterans Home, in Augusta. Larry was born in Concord, to Florence (Garland) and the late Denman Young.

He graduated from Williams High School, in Oakland, in 1946, and married the former Lucille (Belanger) in 1949.

After working a variety of jobs, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951. His career as a meteorologist technician led to postings across the U.S., including Missouri, Oklahoma and New York, and in countries such as Korea and Turkey. It was while serving in Vietnam, in 1969, that Larry earned a Bronze Star for Meritorious Service and achieved the rank of MSgt. before his retirement in 1972. Larry then began working on his second career as a teacher, earning his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Maine. He taught remedial math at Williams Junior High School, in Oakland, until his second retirement in 1989.

In his spare time, Larry enjoyed reading during the winter and spending as much time as he could outdoors in the warmer months. He was an avid angler and hunter and found great pleasure in sharing the bounty of his beautiful vegetable gardens with friends and neighbors. He loved the community of Oakland and proudly served as a member and president of the Lion’s Club for many years, helping with events like fishing derbies and the annual Christmas tree sale.

His wife, Lucille; parents; several brothers and a sister, predeceased Larry.

He is survived by his daughters and their partners, Laurie and Arnold Emerson, of Biloxi, Mississippi, Amy and Philip Kuns, of Nashua, New Hampshire, and Beth Bowden and Alick Andreades, of Augusta; sisters, Joyce Murray, of Smithfield, and Mavis Brown, of Fairfield; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and interment will be at Lewis Cemetery in Oakland at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 18.

WINSLOW – Liane M. Gillcash, 90, of Winslow, passed away of natural causes, at MaineGeneral Hospital, Augusta, on Tuesday, April 23, 2019. She was born in Waterville on June 10, 1928, the daughter of Arthur and Dama Veilleux.

She was a graduate of Waterville High School and worked as a bookkeeper for many years at the C. F. Hathaway Shirt Factory, in Waterville, and later at several Winslow offices.

She attended and was a choir participant at St. John Catholic Church, Winslow, and later attended Notre Dame Catholic Church, Waterville.

She was predeceased by her husband, Elwood L. Gillcash; so, Steve Gillcash; and two sisters, Lettie Ferland and Betty Jane Jolin.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Mark R. and Debbie Gillcash, of China, and their children Darci (Nate) Campbellton, Amy L. Gillcash, Casey M. Gillcash; sister, Sandra (Bruce) Haley; and several nieces and nephews.

LARRY HUGHES

OAKLAND – Larry Hughes, 80, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Maine Medical Center, in Portland. He was born in Waterville, on August 2, 1938, to Joseph and Pauline Hughes.

After graduating from Waterville High School in 1957, he spent two years in the Navy

On November 11, 1961, he married Gloria Therrien, of Skowhegan. They were married 57 years and blessed with two children, a son Jeffrey and a daughter JoAnna.

He was a member of the Rotary Club as well as the Elks.

For 35 years Larry enjoyed summers at his camp on McGrath Pond with family and friends who visited often. He also enjoyed ice fishing and snowmobiling in the winter. For the last 25 years he and his wife were blessed to have a winter home in Punta Gorda, Florida. He also was a member of the Augusta Country Club and the Punta Gorda Deep Creek Club, in Florida, which brought him many hours of enjoyment and some frustration.

His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, Gloria and children Jeffrey and JoAnna.

In later years, he was one of the “ Old Geezers” that met for coffee at Tim Horton’s or McDonald’s where they solved the world’s problems.

ROBERT G. FOTTER

OAKLAND­­ – Robert (Bob) G. Fotter, 88, died Friday, May 3, 2019, at his home in Oakland. He was born in Anson on June 17, 1930, the son of Glenwood and Marion (Pullen) Fotter.

Bob was a lifelong resident of Oakland, graduating from Williams High School, class of 1948.

Bob began his military career in the U.S. Navy in 1950. He was a member of the Seabees, retiring at the rank of Senior Chief in 1969. His service included being called back to active duty where he was stationed in Chu Lai, Vietnam, during the war.

He worked for many years as an suto mechanic and had specialty for working on Saabs. Bob worked for 21 at the Oakland Post Office, retiring in 1990.

Bob began his love of auto racing in 1960. He was an avid ice racer as well as a local track champ at Unity Raceway. He raced his last official ice race at the age of 75. His car #9 was always a threat to the competition.

A skilled craftsman, he created many pieces of furniture for his family (always in multiples of six) as well as designing and building their A-frame cottage in northern Maine. The “Camp” was a place where family and friends gathered for over 25 years. His other hobbies and interests included dancing with Vi, hunting, four wheeling, cribbage and providing sound advice to his children, grandchildren and others regarding how life should be lived, (but only when asked). Bob also volunteered his services to the Sacred Heart Soup Kitchen for 13 years.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sister Dorothy Miner; his first wife Joan (Sanders) Fotter; and his son Wade Fotter.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Vivian “Vi” (Bouchard) Fotter; daughters Cheryl Beach and husband Clay, Donna Goodrow and husband James; sons Glenwood “Sandy” Fotter, Kevin O’Leary and wife Emily, Darryll Fotter and wife Maryanne; nieces Daphne LeMay, Jody Workman; sister-in-law Anita White; brother-in-law Dick Bouchard and wife Mary; sister-in-law Jan Deblois; brother-in-law George Bouchard; sister-in-law Patricia Murphy and husband David, sister-in-law Maxine Bouchard; numerous nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Dara Gaul and husband Nathan, Justin Beach and wife Susan, Jason Goodrow and Lauren Christina, Shelby Hondo and husband Daniel, Megan Flagg and husband David, Rebecca Potter, Ashley Libbrecht and husband Josh, Mallory Charles and husband Julius, Katie O’Leary and fiancé Jason Henriquez, Robert W. ­WINSLOW – Harry E. Phillips, 89, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019, at his home. He was born Dec­em­ber 11, 1929, in South Hamp­ton Township, New Jersey, the son of Alonzo F. And Dorothy M. (Wells) Phillips.

He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Army until his honorable discharge. He worked for many years, in various jobs in the shoe shop industry.

Harry is survived by his son, Daniel E. Phillips and Partner Erika R. Bottjer, of Winslow; two sisters, Gladys Pyle, and Beatrice Bachman, both of New Jersey; two brothers, Ronnie Phillips and wife Rose, of New Jersey, Warren Phillips and wife Sue, of South Carolina; sister-in-law, Frances Phillips and family, of New Jersey; two granddaughters, Samantha D. Perry and husband Andrew, of Fairfield, Tabatha L. Phillips, of Anson; grandson, Tyler D. Humphrey and partner Haley Friend, of Waterville; three nieces, Karen Pyle, Myra (Bachman) Conover and Debbie (Bachman) Latshaw, all of New Jersey; two nephews, Scott Phillips, of North Carolina, and Ronny and wife Rhonda (Smith) Phillips, of South Carolina.

ARTHUR N. LARSEN

WINSLOW – Arthur Neil Larsen, 74, of Winslow, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Augusta Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Waterville on October 18, 1944, to Bernard and Rosie (Hunne­well) Larsen.

In his youth, Arthur attended Waterville schools and graduated from Waterville High School in 1963. In October of 1963, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Hamilton, in New York, after basic training. He then was sent to serve in Munich, Germany, until his honorable discharge in September 1966. He also served as a reservist until October 1969. Later, he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal.

On September 28, 1968, he married the former Joan Bergeron, of Oakland, and began their life together, locating in Winslow, where they celebrated each other through 50 years of marriage.

Early on in their married life, Arthur worked for Barrows Mayflower as an accountant. Later, he was employed by KVCAP as their transportation director, where he initiated the public busing service that continues to aid the greater Waterville and Augusta area to this day. He also took classes at Thomas College, in Waterville, at this time. His favorite years of employment were served at Larsen’s Variety—his convenience store/gas station, where he worked with his wife Joan and his children Arthur and Melissa. There he spread his goodness and humor to locals and patrons with a friendly smile and a helpful hand. He was also a loyal member and former president of the Lions Club.

During his younger years, he collected stamps and rare coins that he later used to share stories with his grandchildren. His love of history and family lineage sent him on a genealogy journey after his retirement that spanned approximately 15 years. He gathered research from cemeteries and libraries across the state and spent a lot of time at the Winslow Public Library. He also became ‘savy,’ connecting with other genealogists through Facebook. He loved the outdoors, which included feeding the birds and weeding his flower gardens; he may have had a few encounters with a squirrel or two. Watching golf on TV was also a beloved pastime. Above all, his most precious moments came from spending time with his family.

Arthur is survived by his wife Joan; son Arthur B. Larsen and wife Sheri, of Winslow; daughter Melissa Stanley, of Fairfield; grandchildren Joshua, Jacob, Katelynn and boyfriend Jacob Grenier, and Caleb-Jared (Larsen); grandchildren Samantha and boyfriend Dylan Young, Michael Jr., and Shelby (Stanley); sister-in-law Linda Nelson and sons, Dana and Chester; sister-in-law Evangeline Davidson and husband Robert; sister-in-law Shirley (Bard) Huard; sister-in-law Joyce Larsen-Lord; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great nieces.

He was predeceased by his father Bernard Larsen, mother Rosie Larsen, brother Allan Larsen, son-in-law Michael Stanley Sr., brother-in-law Dana Nelson Sr., brother Earl Shaw, sister-in-law Carol Bard and her husband Emile, and brother-in-law Clifford Haines Jr.

RICHARD E. BEALE

WINSLOW – Richard Earl Beale, 80, a 24-year veteran of the United State Air Force, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at his home in Winslow. He was born October 23, 1938, in Danforth, the son of Elijah M and Lilla B (Scott) Beale.

He was educated in the schools of Danforth and graduated from Clinton High School in 1957. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the Unihted State Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1982. He was employed at Pratt and Whiney Aircraft prior to his career in the military, and with VIP Auto after his retirement from 1984 – 1987. He was a member of the Clinton Lions Club and the U.S. Air Force Association.

Richard is survived by his partner of 23 years, Anna Gerald; his children, William Michael Beale and his wife Diane, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Laura Hatfield, of Waterville, Richard Beale and his wife Karen, of Yuba City, California, Mailissa Cavanaugh and her husband Andrew, of Indian Springs, Florida, Mary Dowe and her husband Richard, of Windsor, and James Beale; his sister Mary Randall, of Augusta, sister-in-law Drena Beale, of Florida, and brother-in- law Peter Levesque, of Oakland; 21 grandchildren and too many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members to list.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, his brother Robert Beale, his sisters Margaret Bailey, Verna Proctor, Arlene Beauregard, and Virginia Levesque; his son Robert Mark Beale and the mother of his children Ruth Elaine (Hawes) Beale.

A Celebration of life will be held at the Brown Memorial Methodist Church at 36 Church St, Clinton, ME at a.m., on Saturday, June 22, 2019, followed by a graveside internment.

RAYMOND A. PELLETIER

WINSLOW — Raymond Adrien Pelletier, 89, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 28, 2019. He was born on December 23, 1929, at the beginning of the Great De­pression, the eleventh of twelve children of Patrick and Desneiges (Plante) Pelletier.

Despite having been raised in poverty and having faced great adversity throughout his lifetime, he demonstrated determination, resourcefulness, frugality, integrity, vitality, grit, sincerity, kindness, and resilience, modeling these qualities for his family and friends.

Raymond, the first in his family to graduate high school, attended Winslow High School, class of 1948. He was on the Periscope staff and participated in numerous sports, lettering in baseball and football. During the final game of his senior year, he scored the game-winning touchdown against Lawrence High School. He was later selected as a running back on the All-Maine Team.

After high school, he attended Coburn Classical Institute, in Waterville, until its closure. He then attended the University of Cincinnati, but withdrew due to financial constraints. In 1950, he enlisted in the Navy where he rose to the rank of Ensign 1 as a diesel engine mechanic in the Engineering Division aboard the Battleship USS Wisconsin.

In 1952, he married Jeanne I. Poulin, his high school sweetheart. In 1954, Raymond received an honorable discharge and returned to Winslow. Under the GI Bill, he attended the University of Maine at Orono where he studied chemical engineering. Following his freshman year, he withdrew to support his growing family. Though never able to complete his college degree, he instilled his value for education in all of his children, each of whom graduated from Harvard University and subsequently became his “dream team” of professionals in the fields of education, engineering, finance, law, and medicine.

From 1955 to 1992, Raymond worked as a union ironworker and became a 65-year member of Ironworkers Local #496. He contributed to the construction of U.S. Navy communication towers, U.S. Department of Defense nuclear missile silos, bridges, paper mills, and numerous commercial and public buildings, including the Maine State Capitol Building and several hospitals. After retirement from active construction work in 1992, he continued for over a decade to serve as an instructor of rigging, reinforcing, and welding for the ironworkers apprenticeship program and the Maine Technical College System. He was a lifetime member the American Legion, Post Number 5, in Waterville and the Winslow VFW Post 8835.

He is survived by his partner and fiancée of 30 years, Martha (Grindall) Audet; his six children, Ronald Pelletier and wife Ning Sawangjaeng, of Lincolnville, Janice Pelletier and husband Len Kass, of Orono, Karen Pelletier and partner Anu Makynen, of Portland, Mark Pelletier and wife Leslie King Pelletier, of Winslow, Dominic Pelletier and wife Beth Audet Pelletier, of Raymond, and Jeffrey Pelletier and wife Lilly Ampai Chiu Pelletier, of Manhattan Beach, California; 11 grandchildren; two step-children; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In 1989, Raymond met Martha Audet while working at Scott Paper Company, in Winslow. Raymond became an important part of the lives of Martha’s children: Arlene and David McLean of Winslow, John and Ashley Audet of Winslow, and Beth and Dominic Pelletier; and Martha’s 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Raymond was predeceased by his parents; ex-wife and mother to his six children, Jeanne (Poulin) Pelletier; brothers, Patrick, Rudolph, Gerard, Lucien (Mike), Leopold, Armand, Robert, Joseph (Donald), sisters, Anne Marie Mailloux, Juliette, Cecile Ellis; nephew, Patrick Ellis, and several other nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law, Nancy (Willey) Pelletier.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, foraging, gardening, driving, traveling, and helping his children and grandchildren with home-building and maintenance. His skills with all things mechanical, as well as his work ethic, both on and off the job, were considered legendary.

PEARL THERIAULT

VASSALBORO – Pearl Theriault, 85, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2019, after having dementia for five years. Born on July 30, 1933, in Fort Kent, Pearl was the oldest of six children of the late Paul and Alma Bard.

She met her husband, Raymond Theriault, otherwise known as “Zoo” at the family store in Fort Kent. They were married on December 31, 1951, and shared 52 years of marriage together until his passing in 2003. During their marriage, they had six children. They began their life in Fort Kent and eventually moved to central Maine after their first two children were born.

After raising her children, Pearl returned to the work force. She worked for various employers, ending her career at Hannaford, at JFK Plaza, in Waterville, as a cashier at the age of 77. Wherever Pearl worked she earned the respect of her co-workers and management for her style and ability to connect with others. She could talk like no other and this was evident when customers would line up for her specifically to cash out their groceries. She thoroughly enjoyed her job at Hannaford and seeing her friends, customers and co-workers, daily.

Pearl was a talented woman who could knit, crochet and sew, including making quilts for her family, including all of her children. In her earlier days, she could be found cooking for a family gathering, attending church or dancing with her husband. She also had a fondness for collecting angels.

As dementia set in for Pearl, she moved in with her daughter, Rae Ann and family.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband; her son, Terry Theriault; her sister, Doris Robinson; and her brother, Roland Bard.

Pearl will be sadly missed by her children, Gary Theriault and wife Patti, of Lincoln, Dana Theriault and wife Cheryl, of Fort Kent, Randy Theriault and companion Robin Chretien, of Farmington, Peggy Pelletier and husband Edmond, of Fort Kent, and Rae Ann Lajoie and companion, Jennifer Stevens, of Vassalboro; three remaining siblings, Jo-Jo Boudreau, Mary Anne Pooler, and Roger Bard; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several other family members.

WARREN L. NICHOLS III

SOUTH CHINA – Warren L. Nichols III passed away Thursday, April 11, 2019, following a long illness. He was known by most people by his two nicknames, “Skeeter” or “Munchkin”. He was born on March 18, 1953, in Augusta, son of Warren L. Nichols Jr. and Norma Plummer Nichols.

He graduated from Cony High School and joined the U.S. Marine Corp, where he proudly served until his discharge. He then returned to Augusta and worked for several auto garages until he became disabled.

Skeet always put other first, helping anyone in need. He could cheer you up with his laugh and jokes. He was a warm ray of sunshine to ease your woes. He had a heart larger than himself.

He was predeceased by his parents; grandparents; and sister, Carolee Jean Fitzgerald.

Skeet is survived by his daughter, Lorena Clark; and grandchildren, Erin, Kaylynn, Nickolas, and Emryss; sister, Penny A. Dall and husband, Darrell; nieces, Tammie L. Nichols and Brandy A. WINDY W. BIZIER

VASSALBORO – Windy WenJuan Bizier, 40, of Vassalboro, passed away unexpectedly in Arlington, Virginia, on Monday, April 15, 2019. She was born in Suzhou, China, on June 11, 1978, the daughter of Lu Genmu and Manman Huang.

She worked for the Augusta School Department as an educational technician and also tutored the Chinese language to a variety of students over the last 15 years.

She won the highest achievement in the nation when pursuing her cosmetology’s license.

Windy was a friend to everyone she met. She was the most beautiful, loving, passionate woman in the world who loved gardening in her very large flower garden, feeding the homeless and always willing to help the elderly.

Windy is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Bizier; son, Dominique Bizier, of Vassalboro; her father, Lu Genmu; and brother, Wenquan.

WATERVILLE – Yvonne (Goodrich) O’Clair, 87, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. Yvonne was born on January 3, 1932, in Waterville, to Elmer and Marie “Rose” (Belanger) Goodrich.

Yvonne was a strong, independent and honest woman. Her optimistic humor kept the entire family in smiles. She enjoyed the simple things in life like watching old cowboy shows, building puzzles, knitting, making homemade bread and caring for her family.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her two brothers, Leroy and Percy; two sisters, Louise Pomerleau and Marie Nutter; and one son, Alfred O’Clair.

She is survived by one brother, William “Bill” and one sister, Bernice Kelley; four sons, Fred, of Oakland, James and Peter, of Waterville, and Percy, of Albion; two daughters, Mary O’Clair, of Winslow, and Betty Lovely, of Vassalboro; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their children.

A private family gathering will be held in May.

SHIRLEY M. WILLIAMS

CHINA – On April 22, 2019, Shirley M. Williams, 69, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2019, at her home in China, following a heroic fight with cancer. Shirley was born on February 12, 1950, to Frances and Leslie Martin, in Gardiner.

Shirley grew up in Richmond and had a close relationship with her Nana throughout her childhood. Shirley graduated from Richmond High School in 1969.

Shirley worked for Thadius Barber for 24 years at his multiple stores. She thought very highly of Thad, Rita, Tom, and all of her co-workers considering them all her “second family” and loved them very much. She worked for Thad until November 18, 2018, at Fieldstone’s Quickstop, in South China. During Shirley’s employment at Fieldstones, she formed special friendships with her customers. She will continue to be treasured and well-respected by the community that she lived in. Prior to this, Shirley was a devoted stay-at-home mother to her children.

In Shirley’s earlier years she enjoyed going out dancing and was the person everyone came to when they needed a cake decorated for occasions such as birthdays or weddings because she did such beautiful work. As of recent, in Shirley’s free-time throughout the entire year she could be found shopping in preparation for the holidays in hopes of surprising her family as they walked into her living room on Christmas mornings. Shirley’s family looked forward to “family nights” with Mom/Mimi. Shirley would make a homecooked meal per family member’s requests on these nights and they would sit down for a game of Yahtzee afterwards. Shirley cherished these special moments spent with her family. Shirley was a very generous, big-hearted, selfless person and even throughout her battle with cancer was always supportive of those around her and willing to help them in anyway she could.

Shirley is survived by her children: Donald L. Williams, of China; Charmeny A. Williams, of China; Lorena M. Clark, of Skowhegan; George H. Williams and wife, Sheryl, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Troy D. Williams and wife, Jessica, of China; her grandchildren: Steven Hamel, Ryan Hamel, Shirlynn Sears, Shaine Staples, Aarick Staples, Erin Clark, Hunter Williams, Tyonna Williams, Abbey Gordon, Kaylynn Clark, Nickolos Clark, Emryss Clark, Collin Williams; her great-grandchildren: Lincoln Hamel, Levi Hamel; her sister; Jo Anne Fox, of Fairhaven, Massachusetts; and many other family and friends.

SOUTH CHINA – Dennis B. Towle, 71, of Lakeview Drive, South China, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at the Androscoggin Hospice House, in Auburn. Dennis was born on May 28, 1947, in Dover, New Hampshire. He was the son of John W Towle and Ruth L. (Smith) Towle.

After completing high school, Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era and received training in electronics. He later worked for an electronics company in California and most recently was employed as an electronics analyst at Digital Corporation, in Augusta.

Dennis enjoyed spending time with his friend, Mary, frequently visiting local South China restaurants and ice cream shops. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and indulging in his hobby of prospecting.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was predeceased by his brother, John A. Towle of Virginia Beach, VA; his first wife, Elizabeth (Czelust) Towle; and his second wife, Doris (Sirois) Towle.

Dennis is survived by his brother, Lesley Towle, of Palmyra; his stepson, Donald Sirois, of South China; stepdaughter, Jean A. Breton, of South China; and his dear friends, Mary Freeman, of South China, and Ronald Breton, of South China.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, May 5th at 2 p.m. at the South China Community Church. Burial will be at a later date at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

MICHAEL A. GILBERT

BENTON — Michael “Mickey” A. Gilbert, 58, of Benton, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at his home. He was born May 14, 1960, in Waterville, one of six boys of Lester and Jane (Laury) Gilbert.

Mickey graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, class of 1978.

Mickey enjoyed camping in the middle of nowhere, campfires, fishing, spending time at his camp in New Sharon and gardening. One of his passions in life was buying and selling anything he could make a buck on. Mickey had many fond memories and stories of going to Red Sox and New England Patriots games with family.

Mickey was most recently employed at Albion Manufacturing.

Mickey was predeceased by his parents Lester and Jane (Laury) Gilbert; and his wife Carol Gilbert.

Mickey leaves behind sons, Nick Gallaway and wife Kristina, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Jim Leclair and wife Nicole, of Norridgewock; grandchildren, Olivia, Ricki, Tyler and Jill; brothers, Allen Gilbert and wife Vicki, of Oakland, Robert Gilbert, of Farmingdale, David Gilbert and wife Rhonda, of Linneus, Edward Gilbert and wife Sheila, of Clinton, Steven Gilbert and wife Michele, of Belgrade; Godson, Alexander Gilbert, of Belgrade; several nieces and nephews.

Private burial service for family will be held at Pond Cemetery, in Unity.

Mickeys Celebration of Life will be held on May 18, 2019, at his residence at 128 Albion Rd., Benton, at 2 p.m. His family is hoping all friends and family will come celebrate and share stories and memories about Mickey. His family will be providing food. Please bring a chair and stories and come enjoy the afternoon.

EDWARD E. LEARY

AUGUSTA — Edward E. Leary, of Palermo, and Augusta, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at his home, in Augusta. He was born on January 3, 1935, in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, son of Eugene and Margaret (Craik) Leary.

He married the former Janice Anderson on December 28, 1957.

Edward spent eight years in the naval reserves and several years in law enforcement in various capacities in state and local government, and then with the Maine Department of Transportation, retiring in 1988. He was particularly proud of his police work and spoke often of his experiences. Edward was a special man of high integrity. He was honest, straightforward, a true friend and companion, and a loyal husband who expected no less from his family, friends, and business contacts.

Edward maintained collections of fishing equipment, bicycles, knives, coins, and was respected for his knowledge of the value and history of each item. He spent most of his earlier years fishing in his spare time. Edward especially enjoyed the Spencer Lake area near Jackman, and the Rockwood area on Moosehead Lake. He visited those places his whole life, even after he had made his final cast.

Edward was predeceased by his infant son, Sean Edward; sister, Margaret “Peggy” in 1984; and his wife, Janice in 2014.

He is survived by three sons and their families, Shannon M. Leary and Rita Silvia, of Oakland, Edward Sean Leary and Amy Giles, of Portland, and Frank P. and Susan Leary, of Palermo; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Erin Faulhaber and her daughters Madilyn Kennedy and Amelia Faulhaber, of Clayton, North Carolina, and Kevin Leary, of Manchester, (daughter, grandchildren, and son of Shannon), and Paige and Kelby Leary, of Palermo, daughters of Frank and Susan.

A graveside ceremony will be announced at a later date at the Smith Cemetery, in Palermo, where Edward will join his wife and together they will rest.

EDWARD BELANGER

OAKLAND — Edward Belanger, 78, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. Ed was the son of the late Walter and Helen (Albert) Belanger.

Before retiring, Ed made his living as a commercial truck driver. Ed and his truck worked with many local contractors and road crews.

Ed was an avid NASCAR fan and never missed a Patriots’ game. He also enjoyed classic country music; when he wasn’t listening to it, he was singing it. Not a day went by that the History channel did not offer a program to grab Ed’s attention.

Ed is survived by his wife, Nancy; her son, Benjamin Belanger and his children, Mason, Brody and Georgia; her son, Jonathan Belanger, his wife, Betty and their children, Isabella, Gabriel and Addison; his brother Lawrence and his wife, Lynn, his sisters Theresa Culbertson and Judy Pelotte, sister-in-law, Annette Belanger; as well as Nancy’s family and several nieces and nephews.

Ed was predeceased by his sister, Pearl Dubois and her husband Bob, brothers, Guilford and Larry, and brother-in-law, Dean Culbertson.

At Ed’s request there will be no services.

ROBERT A. PULLEN

WINSLOW — Robert Alan Pullen, 56, of Winslow, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019. He was born to Robert E. Pullen and Linda J. Webber on April 8, 1963, in Waterville.

He attended Winslow High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He held several jobs over the years, including working at Crowe Rope Industries, in Winslow.

Alan was a skilled pool, darts and chess player, and he enjoyed watching NASCAR, football and hockey. He collected antiques, coins and NASCAR memorabilia. He will forever be remembered for his friendly and generous nature. He would frequently crack jokes and he was always willing to help anyone in need.

He was predeceased by his father, Robert E. Pullen; and his brother, William “Billy” Pullen.

He will be sadly missed by his mother, Linda Webber; sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and Jason Britton; brother, Gary Pullen; niece, Carmen Smith; nephews, Kyle and Travis Pullen; great-nephew, Elijah Pullen; uncles, Rodney Jordan and Gary Pullen; aunts, Glenis Staples and Louise O’Clair; as well as cousins.

ANASTATIA F. DENNIS

WINSLOW — Anastatia Fuller Huard Dennis, 97, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Lakewood Continuing Care Center, in Waterville. She was born December 9, 1921, in Livermore Falls, the daughter of Alton H. Fuller and Nellie (Crowley) Fuller.

She was the second child of four children: Arthur, Eileen and Desmond Fuller. She attended high school at Maine Central Institute, in Pittsfield. Ann married Lawrence Huard, of Winslow, on January 3, 1942. This union brought Ann her first child, Randy Huard. Unfortunately, she became a widow in 1944 when her husband was killed during the Normandy France Invasion of World War II. Ann married again on June 5, 1948, to Sylvio J. Dennis, of Winslow,. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage and three more children, Cynthia and twins Joy and Jill, before Sylvio’s passing in 2011.

Ann worked in many different career fields during her lifetime. She worked for the American Woolen Mill, in Pittsfield, and North Vassalboro, and the Cascade Woolen Mill, in Oakland. She also was employed at the C. F. Hathaway Shirt Factory, in Waterville, and the Diamond Match Company, in Oakland. After travelling west, she worked for Hughes Aircraft and AMPEX Electronics, in California.

Upon returning to New England, she began work at Pratt and Whitney and EML, Electronic Music Laboratories, in Vernon, Connecticut. Ann eventually settled back in Winslow. She finished her working years waitressing for Ken’s Family Restaurant and The Eating House.

Ann had many talents and hobbies. She was an amazing dancer. She was also a beautiful knitter, crocheter, seamstress, quilter and gardener. Many people have been recipients of her quilts, blankets and mittens that she made and donated. As the years progressed, her favorite activity was her days in the sun and fresh air and enjoying her family while watching the sun set at camp.

Ann was predeceased by her parents, siblings and spouses.

She is survived by her younger brother, Desmond Fuller, of Plano, Texas; son Randy Huard and spouse Connie Huard, of Winslow, daughters Cynthia (Dennis) Nordby and spouse Wes Nordby, of Minden, Nevada, Joy (Dennis) Roberge and spouse Scott Roberge, of Vassalboro, and Jill (Dennis) Vigue and spouse Rick Vigue, of Winslow; eight grandchildren, Mike and Mark Huard, Kevin Arnold, Heather Beaster, Ricky Vigue, Ashley, Kylee and Nicholas Roberge; and three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Huard and Malyn and Cameron Beaster; nieces and nephews, Desmond Fuller Jr., Vicki Vanderhoof, Dottie Potts and Danny Fuller.

A graveside gathering will be held at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, in Augusta, at a later date.

OAKLAND – Raymond Carl Bickford, 86, of Oakland, passed away at Togus Springs Hospice Center on Wednesday, March 27, in Augusta. He was born in Rome, May 29, 1932.

Ray was predeceased by his father, John R. Bickford, mother, Lillian M. Tibbetts Bickford; and brother, Robert Bickford and his sons, Peter Bickford and Timothy Bickford.

Ray leaves behind his wife, Ruth Hurd Bickford, of Oakland; son, Gregory Bickford and wife, Diane, of Unionville, Connecticut, and daughter, Kim Bickford, of Waterville; grandchildren, Joseph Greene and wife, Leslie, of Fairfield and their children, and Jeremy Bickford, of Connecticut; Courtney Green, of Waterville, Michael Ashman and wife, Cara, of New Hampshire, and Brian Bickford, of North Carolina. Ray also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was particularly close to his cousin Vance Tibbetts and wife, Ida, of Norridgewock. He also leaves behind his stepsons, Landy St. Peter and wife, Mary, of Oakland, Mark St. Peter, of Waterville and Glenn St. Peter, of Oakland, his step-daughters, Caron Beeckel and husband, Peter, of Turner, and Diane St. Peter and wife, Lisa, of Massachusetts, step-grandchildren Jeremiah, Jacob, Ben, and Ashley St. Peter, and many others throughout the US.

A private memorial will be held on April 28.

OAKLAND – Lisa Ann King, 54, passed away at home on Friday, March 29, 2019. She was born on February 26, 1965, at Redington-Fairview Hospital, Skowhegan, to Lawrence R. Farmer and Scharliene M. Farmer (Austin).

Lisa graduated from Messalonskee High School, in Oakland, and Barbizon Modeling and Acting School. She was employed by Buds Food Center and Maine Criminal Justice Academy before becoming a homemaker.

Lisa loved children, crafts, gardening, working with animals, large family gatherings, modeling, dancing, and gymnastics. She had a heart full of love for her family and friends.

Lisa was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Scharliene Farmer; and her brother, Lawrence Farmer Jr.

Lisa is survived by her husband, Wann C. King; her children, Michael, David, Brandon, Hannah, Joselyn, Angela and Donna King; and her grandchildren, Alex and Scarlett.

A memorial service will take place at Grace Bible Church, 333 Oak St., Oakland, on Saturday, April 27, at 10 a.m., followed by lunch and fellowship with the family. All are welcome.

ROLAND M. LaROCHELLE

WINSLOW – Roland LaRochelle, 94, of Winslow, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019, at Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home, in Waterville. He was born in Winslow ono January 5, 1925, a son of the late Ephrem and Alfredina (Letourneau) LaRochelle.

Roland worked for 35 years at Capital Distributors, in Winslow, as a salesman and subsequently as sales manager. He later joined Mid State Machine Shop, in Winslow, where he worked until he retired in 1995.

He enjoyed many hobbies, including hunting, gardening, splitting wood, and playing cards with his friends at the Le Club Calumet, in Augusta, where he was a 50-year member. He also loved working around his home and yard. One of his favorite pastimes was watching and feeding the birds from his porch which led to his battling the squirrels and chipmunks, all known to him as “Chippy.” To those privileged to know him, Roland graced all with his humor, ingenuity, and unmatched hard work. Memories and stories of his life are many and will be shared for years to come. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lucille Picard LaRochelle; seven children, Muriel (Thomas) Howells, Theresa (Ronald) Bailey, Raymond (Brenda Shea), Elaine (David) McQuillan, Ann (Michael) Roderigue, Lisa (Michael) Whisman and Donald; his brother, Patrick. He was lovingly known as Pepere to his 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Francine; brothers, Lionel, Wilfred, Clarence, August and Paul and sisters, Adella Boggs, Evelyn Paradis, and Yvette Jean.

NICHOLAS V. GOODWIN

FAIRFIELD – Nicholas V. Goodwin, 34, of Fairfield, and formerly of West Gardiner, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019. Nicholas was born in Augusta at MaineGeneral Medical Center, on November 20, 1984, the son of Victor A. Goodwin Jr., and Kelly Batchelder.

Nicholas attended Wayne, Maranacook, as well as Gardiner school systems. He spent most of his life battling a kidney disease and received a kidney donation on June 1, 1989.

He loved listening to music, especially Madonna, Michael Jackson, and had a love for Marilyn Monroe.

He is survived by his parents, Victor A. Goodwin Jr., of West Gardiner, Kelly Batchelder, of Richmond; a brother Billy; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

OAKLAND – Jaleah Gail Parlin, infant daughter of Hope and Dylan Parlin, was born sleeping on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta.

She was predeceased by her twin sister, Jocelyn Marie, and grandfather Mike Jordan.

She is survived by her parents, Hope and Dylan Parlin; her sister, Juliette Parlin; grandparents, Norman and Donna Cormier, all of Oakland; Peter and Alicia Parlin, of Daytona, Florida; great-grandparents, Bernice Lausier, of Oakland, Gail Parlin, of Augusta; uncles and aunts, Kyle Cormier and partner, Jaime, Nate Parlin and partner, Mercedes, Austin Parlin and partner, Hannah, and Aaron Jordan; as well as numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins.

A celebration of Jaleah and Jocelyn will be held Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 1 p.m. at The First United Pentecostal Church of Augusta, 15 Wilson Street, Augusta. Following the celebration there will be a gathering of family and friends where refreshments will be available.

JOANNE McKAY

WINSLOW – Joanne (St. Amand) McKay, 89, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 201, at Oak Grove Center, in Waterville. She was born April 4, 1929, in Middleboro, Massachusetts, the daughter of Ovila and Minnie L. (Fagerberg) St. Amand.

She was the wife of Eugene “Gene” Y. McKay, her high school friend. They were married April 8, 2000, after being separated for 52 years as they followed their separate paths through life.

A 1947 graduate of Memorial High School, in Middleboro, she attended Westbrook Junior College, in Portland, where she studied journalism. Following her college, Joanne was employed by Thomas Brothers, in Middleboro, as a bookkeeper. Further employment was with Plymouth Shoe Company and Earth Shoes, both of Middleboro, in the position of scheduler, followed by accounting positions at Hughes Ford, of Middleboro, Chase Chevrolet, of Middleboro, and finally retired as the Bbusiness manager of the Halifax Country Club, Halifax, Massachusetts. She was also employed as a secretary to the Superintendent of Middleboro Public Schools.

Joanne was the widow of Foster McComiskey, Jr., to whom she was married for 31 years. Gene and Joanne relocated to Maine in 2001 where they enjoyed a life of retirement and volunteer work, mostly at MaineGeneral Hospital, Thayer Campus, in Waterville, and also at Four Seasons Medical Clinic and the Alfond Cancer Center, in Augusta. Joanne also served on the Middleboro finance committee, Middleboro Central Cemetery Committee (as treasurer), the Lakeville Cable Television committee, all located in Massachusetts, and the treasurer of All Souls Unitarian-Universalist Church, in Oakland.

She loved reading and traveling, visiting the United Kingdom and Scotland and devoting many hours of reading at their own home library with Gene.

Joanne is survived by her husband, Gene; several nieces; stepson, William Curtis McKay and wife Nancy, of Wilton, New Hampshire.

She was predeceased by her sister, Anna Louise Stevens (the mother of her nieces).

There will be no visitation hours. A graveside service will be held at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, in Augusta, at the convenience of the family.
