The following local residents have earned an Award of Excellence at Western Governors University, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The award is given to students who perform at a superior level in their coursework.
Whitney Poplawski, of Augusta, has earned an Award of Excellence at Western Governors University Leavitt School of Health.
Brenda Ryder, of Liberty, has earned an Award of Excellence at Western Governors University College of Business.
Through October, recyclable bottles are being collected to benefit the Palermo, Liberty, and Montville Food pantries. Bottles may be dropped off at the porch of the Palermo Community Center anytime, or at Nancy Bartlett’s home, at 801 Acadia, across from the 10-4 Diner. Bartlett’s hours are Tuesday from 9 a.m. – noon, Friday from 9 a.m. – noon, and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Her home is gray-brown with pink trim.
Your recyclable bottles can help feed neighbors in need. Proceeds from the bottle drive will be divided equally among the three local food pantries.

Mary Franks of Liberty, was recently named to the Castleton University dean’s list, in Castleton, Vermont, for the spring semester of the 2018-19 academic year.
To qualify for this academic honor, the student must maintain full-time status and a semester grade point average of 3.5.

Select students have been named to the Spring 2017 dean’s list at Roger Williams University, in Bristol, Rhode Island. Full-time students who complete 12 or more credits per semester and earn a GPA of 3.4 or higher are placed on the Dean’s List that semester.
Area students include Jordan King, of Liberty, and Michael Oliveira, of Waterville.
