DORIS G. ROBINSON

JEFFERSON––Doris Gail Robinson, 70, of Washington Road, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Augusta Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Augusta following a long illness. She was born in Augusta on September 13, 1946, the daughter of Clinton Cunningham and Helen (James) Cunningham.

Gail grew up in Chelsea and was raised by her grandparents, Leland and Doris James. She grew up with her many aunts and uncles who she viewed and treated as her brothers and sisters. Gail went to grammar school in a one-room schoolhouse in Chelsea. She attended Cony High School for a while and graduated from Medomak Valley High School in 1976.

In the 80’s, Gail completed training at Kennebec Valley Medical Center for work as a non-invasive laboratory technician. She worked there for many years in that capacity. She also provided home health care for a time. She was also a spiritual person and taught Sunday school when her children were little.

Gail was a very giving and supportive person, and family and friends were extremely important to her. She was very creative and shared her love of crafts by crocheting and making many baby blankets to give to others. She especially enjoyed home decorating and helped many friends and families create warm and inviting spaces within their own homes to enjoy.

Gail loved children and was very close to her grandsons, Brooks and Brock. She went on every field trip her grandsons had when they were in school, and enjoyed time spent at the beach at Damariscotta Lake, as well as trips to the ocean.

Gail was involved in her community and was a lifetime member of the Whitefield Lions Club. She had a great sense of humor and loved to have fun and do silly things like drive to Connecticut for pizza, a favorite, and visit her friend Liz, or drive to Massachusetts just to go to Trader Joe’s. Gail loved to play sports, and they had many family baseball games over the years. She was also a Patriot’s fan and watched every game.

Gail loved gardening and had beautiful gardens. She also enjoyed cooking and her favorite dishes to prepare were lasagna and potato salad.

Gail was predeceased by her father, Clinton Cunningham; her mother, Helen Cunningham Robichaud; her stepfather, Roland J. Robichaud; and a brother, Glenn Robichaud

Surviving is her longtime companion, Prescott Lord; two daughters, Laurie Robinson and Tamara Blackler and husband Mark, all of Jefferson; brother Bryan Robichaud, of South Bend, Indiana; sisters, Earlene Jeane, of Windsor, and Deana Waterman, of Augusta; two grandchildren, Brooks Blackler and Brock Blackler and companion Monica Belanger; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

PALERMO––LeeAnn Smith, 57, passed away following a long battle with cancer on Friday, September 23, 2016. She was born in Augusta on December 30, 1958, to George Moore Sr. and Ruth Wing.

LeeAnn graduated from Winthrop High School in 1978. After high school she went to work at the mill for many years. She also worked at a nursing home, and worked for many years at a day care until her retirement. LeeAnn enjoyed biking, hunting, fishing, gardening, spending time with her family, and she loved outdoors.

She was predeceased by her mother Ruth; maternal grandparents Lloyd and Olive Moore.

DOUGLAS E. PEASLEE SR.

JEFFERSON––Douglas E. Peaslee Sr., 86, of Jefferson, died Friday, September 23, 2016, in Jefferson, at his daughter Shirley’s home. Douglas was born April 13, 1930, in Somerville, to Guy and Leola Benner Peaslee.

Douglas grew up in Somerville and attended local schools. He started working in the woods at the age of 13.

He worked hard all of his life in the woods, growing and harvesting Christmas trees. He also was a school bus driver, D.O.T driver, and worked at the Dragon Cement Plant, in Thomaston. He owned and operated Douglas Peaslee & Son’s Trucking Loam & Gravel for many years until he retired.

He was the road commissioner for the town of Jefferson for over 30 years. He was a loyal, trustworthy and dependable person. His wife, Shirley, was the center of his world along with his children and grandchildren. He loved to go hunting and fishing so that he could provide food for his family through the long Maine winters.

He was predeceased by sons, Elbridge and Dennis Peaslee.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Peaslee, of Jefferson; children, Douglas Peaslee Jr. and wife Teri, of Jefferson, Delma Lee and husband Tom, of Jefferson, Shirley St. Pierre, of Jefferson, Roland Peaslee Sr. and wife Patricia, of Jefferson, Kathy Peaslee, of Jefferson, and Susan Peaslee and companion Daniel Achorn, of Jefferson; brothers, Lawrence Peaslee, of Edgecomb, and Guy Peaslee Jr., of Boothbay; sisters, Myra Cook, of Florida, Evelyn Gaboury, of Chelsea, and Marion Asdot, of Wiscasset; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

DAVID A. MEADER

FAIRFIELD CENTER­­––David A. Meader,k 62, died Monday, September 26, 2016, at Maine Medical Center, in Portland.

He was born in Waterville on September 16, 1954, the son of Mervin and Theresa (Carey) Meader.

David graduated from Messalonskee High School, in Oakland, class of 1972, and attended the University of Maine at Augusta where he earned his real estate license.

David worked in the area for most of his life as a carpenter, both for himself and as a subcontractor for many local builders. He was a member of the Decker-Simmons Post Sons of American Legion, in Oakland. He loved to play the drums and could be heard over the years playing with a variety Central Maine bands.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Steven Meader and a sister Cindy Meader.

Surviving are his wife Heidi Meader, of Fairfield; sons Jayde, of Readfield, Jacob, of Fairfield, Jeremiah, of Smithfield; daughter Cassie Sirois, of Winslow; stepson Leif “Erickson Butler; stepdaughter Alisa Gill; brothers, Gary, Jeff and Lloyd; sisters Marcia Collins, Roberta Rutherford, and Barbara Rangely; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

ROLAND OUELLETTE

SOUTH CHINA – Roland Ouellette passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016, following a courageous 10-year battle with cancer. He was born on May 12, 1947, in Fort Kent, to Lawrence and Lena (Michard) Ouellette.

The Ouellette family moved to Weeks Mills when Roland was six years old so his father, a disabled war veteran, could be closer to Togus.

Following high school Roland moved to Massachusetts and attended autobody school. He worked for several years for his uncle at RH Long Auto. After getting married, Roland moved his family back to Weeks Mills so his three children would have a better life living in a small town on a farm. He raised beef cows and worked at Caron’s Auto Body for a few years before deciding to open his own auto body shop, Brookside Auto. After working for himself for some time, he began working at O’Connor GMC, in Augusta. He made many friends at O’Connor’s and was known for being an aggravator and jokester. He continued these friendships well after he left O’Connor’s.

Roland knew how to keep busy. He looked forward to haying season every year and only last year did he stop making hay. His home was his castle and he took pride in its appearance and maintenance. His favorite moments were sitting around the kitchen table, enjoying his coffee brandy and cigars, with his friends and family trying so solve the world’s problems.

Roland is survived by his three children, Pamela Morin and her husband Lee, Niki Sheldon and her husband Ethan, and Brian Ouellette; and his five grandchildren, Jennifer Frederickson, Timothy Carter, Bo Ouellette, Catherine Sheldon, and Alexander Sheldon. He is also survived by his brother Herman Ouellette and his wife Diane, sister Pat Pelton and husband Jerry, and sister Verna Willoughby.

He was predeceased by his sister Nancy Cunningham.

At Roland’s request, there will be no public viewing. The family will hold a gathering at a later date.

KATHERYN M. AMES, 84, of Farmington, passed away on Tues., September 27, 2016, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, in Farmington. Locally, she is survived by a daughter, Carrie Aubin and husband Matthew, of Windsor.

EDITH G. BRAGG, 84, of Augusta, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Edith lived in Jefferson for most of her life. She was the salutatorian of her eighth grade year at the two-room Jefferson Village School. From 1952 – 1960 she was a clerical worker at Sylvania Electric, in Wldoboro. After 17 years of raising her two children Edith returned to work as a clerk typist for the state of Maine, Department of Human Services, from May 1977 to November 1992. Edith received a recognition award for 15 years of distinguished service. She also volunteered at the Muskie Center, in Waterville, as well as Senior Spectrum, in Damariscotta.  She also contributed to the Bunker Hill Ladies Aid, Veteran Association, and American Heart Association. She was a long-standing member of the Orff’s Corner Community Church, in Waldoboro.

She is survived by her ex-husband Norman H. Bragg, daughter Cynthia Bragg, and son Jeffrey Braff, all of Jefferson, and a brother Robert Pierpont, of Whitefield.

LORI A. PINETTE

SOUTH CHINA––Lori Anne Pinette, 57, passed away August 16, 2016, following a brief illness of glioblastoma brain tumor, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Lori was born to the late Joseph C. Pinette and Gloria Dowe Pinette, of South China, on November 24, 1958.

Most of her earlier years were spent in South China, and the past 25 years in Damariscotta. She graduated from Oak Grove Coburn, in Vassalboro, and studied at University of Maine Farmington, Brigham Young University and University of Utah.

Lori was an excellent cook and baker, an excellent seamstress, and made beautiful crocheted dresses; she also crocheted and knitted many sweaters. Her modesty kept her from showing how talented she was.

She was predeceased by her father, Joseph; and brothers Scott and Gregory.

Lori is survived by her mother, Gloria Dowe Pinette, of South China; daughter, Moira Salewski, of Portland; Derry Salewski, of Augusta; and Ian, of South China; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

ROBERT W. LORD

JEFFERSON––Robert William Lord, of Jefferson, passed away on September 10, 2016, at his home.

Robert was a retired civil engineer who was a founding partner in the Burlington, New Jersey firm Lord, Anderson, Worrell, and Barnett. His projects included beautiful park designs in urban, suburban, and rural areas. He served as municipal engineer for many Burlington County towns.

He volunteered his time and expertise to the Rancocas Nature Center and grounds in Hainesport, New Jersey.

Upon retiring to Maine, Robert enjoyed spending time with his family, sailing on Damariscotta Lake, bird watching, and studying nature. He was an active volunteer with the Damariscotta Lake Watershed Association until the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Lord; children, Craig (Debbie, Jennifer Gallogly (Andrew), and Stuart; grandchildren, Maggie Masterton (Bob), Patrick Gallogly, Clare Gallogly, Nathaniel Lord, and Augusta Lord; and sisters, Peggy Warren and Sally Stillwell (Carl).

DALE C. FLYNN

ELKTON, MARYLAND – Dale Craig Flynn, 74, of Elkton, Maryland, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016. Born in Skowhegan on July 23, 1942, he was the son of the late Ernest J. Jr. and Leona Pomelow Flynn.

Dale was a missionary withy Word of Life Fellowship for 45 years.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Elisabeth Keay Flynn; children Edward Flynn and Karen Beth Thompson and husband Cliff; granddaughter Tori Thompson, all of Elkton, Maryland; brother Neal Flynn, of Hollis.

Interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, in Albion.

WINSLOW – Constance (Piteau) Saucier, 77, of Winslow, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016, in Wilton, New Hampshire. Connie was born and raised in Augusta, to parents George and Rena Levesque Piteau.

RICHARD H. SCOFIELD

JEFFERSON––It is with sadness that the family of Richard H. Scofield announces his passing on Wednesday, September 14, 2016. He was born in Rockland on December 24, 1934, the son of G. Hamlin and Verna C. Scofield.

Richard was educated in Waldoboro schools, graduating from Waldoboro High School in 1953, and University of Maine with a BS in civil engineering in 1957. After six months of work with the Maine State Highway Commission, he was drafted into the Army and spent two years on Guam and Formosa, being discharged in 1959. He then worked for the sate of Maine Highway Commission and Department of Transportation. During his tenure with the Department he worked as a construction engineer out of the Rockland Division Office, later was transferred to the Augusta office where he worked in both maintenance and state aid, later moving to the Rockland division as Division Engineer and then to Highway Maintenance Engineer in Augusta and remained there until his retirement.

After retirement, Dick worked part-time for Friendship Surveying Company, where he and John Black walked many miles, set a lot of corners and cut a lot of bushes. Dick was a very active member of the Whitefield Lions Club, being a Life Member in 1989 and a Melvin Jones recipient in 1998 and serving as their treasurer from 1990 to 2005.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Anne E. Scofield; stepdaughter Rose Ann D’Auteuil; and wife Jennie.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Donna Brooks; two sons, Thomas R. Scofield and his fiance Kelly Maxcy, of Jefferson and Victor Scofield and wife Sue, of Nobleboro; one stepson Michael D’Auteuil, of Salem, New Hampshire; one grandson Thomas J. Scofield and wife Katelynd, of Jefferson; granddaughter Samantha Peaslee; three great-grandsons, Konner, Jace and Carter; and two step-granddaughters.

RAYMOND H. CAREY

ALBION – Raymond H. Carey, 95, of Albion, passed away at Togus VA Health care on Wed­nesd­ay, August 10, 2016. He was born in Canada on Dec­ember 17, 1920, the son of the late Harold W. and Susan (Byrnes) Carey.

Following his schooling, he served with the US Army from November 25, 1942 to December 25, 1945, during World War II. Raymond was part of the invasion of the Philippines, and was part of the first wave of troops, 96th infantry tank battalion, in Okinawa. He received the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, and Philippines Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Service Star.

Over the years he worked construction with different companies. He was a member of Local #621, in Bangor. He and his wife enjoyed raising horses.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude A. Carey, who passed away on December 5, 2001.
He is survived by his close friend, Jon Willette and his wife, Sandy of Freedom, and their daughter, Erin Mae Pelletier and her husband, William “Big Red” also of Freedom; and his special friend, Harry Yeaton of Albion.

WILLIAM W. GLIDDEN

WINSLOW – William W. Glidden, 73, died unexpectedly at Maine Medical Center in Portland on Sunday, August 28, 2016. Bill was born on January 28, 1943, in Waterville, to Clifton and Doris (Hapworth) Glidden.

He graduated from Winslow High School, and then attended Berkshire Christian College before serving in the Navy during the Vietnam era. He married the former Lily Cady in 1990. Bill retired from Central Maine Power in 2004, where he had worked for 35 years as a meter technician.

Bill was an accomplished musician, playing trumpet and bass guitar, and had a wonderful singing voice. Over the years Bill played with several bands, including the R.B. Hall Band and several country bands. Bill was generous with his time and talent, playing frequently at church and in area nursing homes. He was an intelligent and witty individual who loved to debate Biblical philosophy and discuss current events.

Bill is survived by his wife Lily Glidden; son, William Jeffrey Glidden, of Florida, and his two children; six grandchildren Danielle, Dylan, Lindsay, Morgan, Sierra, and Aaron; his great-grandson, Ayden; step-children, Laurie Bourgoin and husband Eric, Steve Pottle and wife Kim, and Wayne Harmon ll and wife Nicole; brother, Clifton Glidden, Jr. and wife Sandra, of Virginia; nephews Clifton Glidden lll “Skip” and his partner Mary Erickson, and Mark Glidden and wife Sheryl; nieces Sherri Corbin and husband Victor, and Doraine Glidden; several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his parents.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 10, at 2 p.m., at Blessed Hope Advent Christian Church, 10 Pleasant Street, Waterville, with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Rev. Michael Alex will perform the service.

EMMA L. STEVENS

UNITY – Emma Louise (Lamson) Stevens passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016, at the home of her son in Unity. She was born April 26, 1916, in Jackson, to Greta (Larrabee) and Phillip F. Lamson. She attended Monroe Elementary School and Freedom Academy.

Emma is the widow of Frank M. Stevens. They were married on November 17, 1934, moved to Unity in 1936, and farmed there for 25 years.
Emma worked at the Chicken Hatchery, in Unity, the Truitt Brothers Shoe Factory, in Belfast, in an Oregon lumber mill, and at the Ethan Allen Furniture Company, in Burnham, retiring in 1983.

She spent many a happy Saturday nights at the Blue Goose dancing with various friends.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, three sisters, Gertrude Shibles, June Fuller and Priscilla Walker, a brother, Charles; and a grandchild, Tracy Jean Smith.

THERESE F. SMALL

WATERVILLE – Therese Frances Small, 89, of Water­ville, passed away on Wed­nesday, August 31, 2016. She was born on August 17, 1927, in Waterville, one of three daughters of Blanche (Bernier) and Philip Martin.

She graduated from Waterville High School, class of 1945. Terry worked for a time at Keyes Fibre, in Waterville, and at K-Mart while living in Connecticut.

She was married to Harold Small, who predeceased her. She was a member of the Winslow VFW Auxiliary and was an active and devoted member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, in Waterville. She and Harold enjoyed traveling and they traveled extensively throughout Europe. She had a great love of cats. Terry will be remembered most for her kindness and outgoing personality, who enjoyed her many friends.

Terry is survived by her godson, Marc Marquis and his family; her goddaughter, Susan Lewis and her family; Tammy Reed and her family; Roland Fuller and his family; and many lifetime friends.

RONALD J. WEBBER

OAKLAND – Ronald J. Webber, 96, of Oakland, passed away Friday, September 2, 2016, at his home. He was born October 21, 1919, in Oak­land, the son of the late George A. and A. Izetta (Wood) Webber.

In 1920, he moved to Sidney, where he grew to adulthood on a farm, and attended school. He joined the Sidney Grange in 1937, and later transferred his membership to West Suffield Grange #199, in Connecticut. He served in the USAAF during World War II, and greatly appreciated the opportunity as a veteran to attend the Maine Vocational-Technical Institute, in Augusta, from which he graduated in 1949.

In January 1954, he married Barbara C. (Fuller-White) and they reared two children, Curtis and Coral. Ronald and Barbara adopted square dancing for their foremost recreation in 1959, and enjoyed the activity and the multitude of friends made for the rest of their lives.

In 1950, Ronald moved to Connecticut and became licensed as a journeyman electrician in both Connecticut and Massachusetts. He was accepted into membership in Local Union No. 7 IBEW, in Springfield, Massachusetts, in April 1957, and worked at the trade until retiring in April 1985. He moved to Oakland in 1986.

He was predeceased by his son, Curtis; his sisters, Ernestine Crowell and E. Arlene Wilbur; and his brother, Alton Webber.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Oakland; his daughter, Coral, of Sidney; his grandson, Jesse, of Sidney; his great-grandson, Zachary, of Independence, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

She moved to Florida in 1985 and was employed by the Pinellas County Schools for 10 years. Locally, she is survived by a daughter-in-law Marie Whary and husband Ron, of Winslow.

CARL WISHART, 49, of Waxahachie, Texas, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016, at his residence. He was born on January 21, 1967, in Waterville. Carl went to Messalonski High School, in Oakland.

ZANIE N. HIKEL, Zanie Nawfel Hikel, 94, of Pittsfield, died peacefully, Saturday, August 27, 2016, in Pittsfield. Zanie was born on October 14, 1921, in Waterville, the daughter of Sam and Adma (Daghir) Nawfel. She graduated from Waterville High School and received her degree from Thomas College and the University of Maine. In her early years, she was employed as a secretary for the Department of the Navy in Washington, DC, working for Admiral Nimitz. She later worked on the military base in Bangor and also taught at Maine Central Institute, in Pittsfield, for over 20 years. Locally, she is survived by Dr. Michael Nawfel and wife, Dolores, of Waterville, and sister, Najla Joseph and husband, Harold, of Fairfield.

PHYLLIS A. POWERS FENDERSON, 97, of Falmouth, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 1, 2016. Phyllis was born in Waterville on August 26, 1919, the daughter of Alfred A. Adams and Gladys Vandine Adams. She grew up in Waterville with her parents and 12 siblings, of which she was the youngest. She graduated from Waterville High School and also went to Thomas Business College, in Waterville. After college, she moved to Portland and took a job for Oakhurst Dairy as a secretary to the president.

EDMOND J. LaPOINTE, 87, of Waterville, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Mount St. Joseph, in Waterville. Locally, he is survived by a daughter Sharon Carter and husband Henry, of Albion, and grandchildren Tanya L. Lennon, of Albion, Randy LaPointe Jr. and wife Monica, of Fairfield.

MAURICE A. BILODEAU, JR., of Belgrade, died peacefully September 2, 2016, at Eastern Maine Medical Center, in Bangor, following a short illness. He was born in North Vassalboro on August 15, 1922, the son of Sarah Poulin and Maurice Bilodeau Sr. He grew up in North Vassalboro and graduated from Winslow High School. He served in the Army during World War II, and following his service returned to Winslow, marrying Cecile Veilleux in 1947. He moved his family to Presque Isle, then Veazie, for his employment as an engineer with New England Telephone.

JACQUELINE B. POULIN

BINGHAM––Jacqueline B. Poulin, 69, died on Monday, August 8, 2016, following an amazingly courageous 12-year battle with cancer. She was born September 10, 1946, in Biddeford, to Wilfred and Gertrude (Bossie) Belanger.

When Jacquie was four, the family moved to Bingham, where she would remain for the rest of her years.

On August 3, 1963, she married Clement Poulin. In 1978, she had her daughter, Lisa.

After many years of working in various mills and restaurants, Jacquie found her calling as an ed tech at the Norridgewock Central Grade School. Here, she would spend the next 26 years working with children, and enjoying every moment of it. During the summers, she would waitress at area restaurants and rafting companies.

Her style, grace, wisdom, strong faith, and sense of humor touched lives wherever she went. She will be missed by everyone whose life she touched.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 51 years; her sister, Viola Easler; and her brother, Roland Belanger.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Blue(David Blue), of West Gardiner; sister, Pat Belanger (Glenn Davis), of Turner; sisters-in-law Ann Belanger, of Athens and Diane Theberge, of Skowhegan; and many nieces and nephews.

CARL CILLEY

FAIRFIELD – Carl Cilley 70, of Fairfield, passed away August 11, 20016, at Maine General Medical Center, in Au­gusta.  He was born October 5, 1945, in Portland, to Veleria Cilley and Carl Elegrona.  

He was raised in Waterville in the neighborhood of Trigger Hill off College Avenue where he made many lifelong friends.

Carl was a truck driver all his life, many of those as an owner operator.  He could still tell you all the best places to eat all over the country.  He also loved to tell friends and family members the best routes to get to their destinations.  He loved to cook and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, ice fishing, and snowmobiling in his younger years. Carl loved his family and was sure that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the smartest, most talented, and most attractive of all.

He is survived by his wife, Trena Cilley of Fairfield; his son, Carl Cilley Jr. (Trish), of Pittsfield; his daughters,  Sandra Cilley, of Georgia, Sharon Vitti (Mark), of Texas, Stephanie Garza (Louis), of Windham; step sons, Ronald Liberty (Kelly), of Benton, Randall Liberty (Jodi), of Clinton, Ryan Liberty (Colleen), of Wells, and Richard Liberty (Nicole), of Winslow;19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; in-laws, Vivian DeForest, of Houlton, Vena Lary (Scott), Sally Magee (David), Kathy McCarty, (Jim).

DAVID N. GRAHAM

SIDNEY – David N. Graham, 68, passed away Thursday evening, August 11, 2016 at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta after a period of declining health. He was born March 18, 1948, in Waterville, the son of Norman B. and Geraldine F. (Douglas) Graham.

He attended Waterville schools. Throughout his life, David was employed by various mills and factories. He also worked as a self-employed house painter. David’s real passion in life was fishing. Whenever he was able, he could be found fishing the lakes, rivers, and streams of Maine. Fishing was never better for David than when his sons, and later, his grandson, tagged along. He loved to show off his casting skills and knowledge of fishing tackle. He always had a fish story to tell.

David is survived by his wife of 26 years Linda (Dudley-McKechnie) Graham, of Sidney; two sons, Scott D. Graham and wife Beth and grandson, Jack, of Nova Scotia,  Canada, James D. Graham, of Augusta; brother, James A. Graham, of Sidney and Merritt Island, Florida; step-daughter, Leslie Tardiff and husband Derek and son Cooper; several cousins, and friends.

GERVAISE D. BASTON

JEFFERSON––Gervaise “Gerv” D. Baston, 85, of Jefferson, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016, at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor. Gervaise was born June 10, 1930,  to Jervis and Muriel Colfer of Hallowell.

She attended Cony High School in Augusta, and worked for 37 years at Sylvania in Waldoboro. She married Bernard “Hap” Baston, Sr., in January of 1948. They built their home in Jefferson, where she used her carpentry skills, taught to her by her father, to do all of the woodwork. She was married to Hap for over 50 years before he passed away in April of 2000.

She spent a few winters in South Carolina after losing her husband, but the one place she always wanted to be was at her home in Jefferson where she had so many memories. She loved gardening and took great pride in her flowers and her home grown vegetables. She would spend hours in the garden pulling weeds and tending to her flowers. She enjoyed reading, making crafts, and watching the birds at her feeders.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband “Hap”; and two sisters, Mary Mitchell and Beryl Berry.

Gervaise is survived by two sons, Bernard E. Baston, Jr., and C. Michael Baston; six grandchildren, Amanda Baston, Melissa McConkey, Heidy Repiton, Chris Repiton, Isabelle Baston-Sansonetti, and Casey Smith; several great-grandchildren; and a sister Susan Zutell.

JOAN B. DRAKE

WINSLOW––Joan B. Drake, 78, of Winslow, died on Friday, August 12, 2016, at MaineGeneral Hospital, in Augusta. Joan was born on February 16, 1938, in Thompsonville, Connecticut, the daughter of Thomas G. and Victoria E. (Skowrensky) Bodley.

She graduated from the American International College with a bachelor of art and was a church pianist and organist in Enfield, Connecticut, where she met and married Raymond H. Drake, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.

After living in Enfield, Connecticut, for five years, they moved to Winslow. While raising a family, Joan also pursued teaching first grade students, and then took on the role of music and piano teacher for many years, as well as manager for their home business, Drake’s Sewing Machines.

She enjoyed her family, and loved gatherings with all her family and friends, reading, music, piano and organ playing, teaching music, and relaxing at their camp in Solan.

She was predeceased by her parents; and sister, Thomasine B. Connelly.

Joan is survived by her husband, Raymond Drake; daughter, Linda Campbell; son, Timothy Drake; daughter, Amy Winn; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous in-laws and relatives.

A memorial service will be held at Kennebec Valley Baptist Church, 91 Marston Road, Oakland, on August 27, 2016, at 2 p.m., followed by a fellowship dinner.

FAIRFIELD––Paul Allen Davidson, 54, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at his home in Fairfield. He was born on June 14, 1962, in Waterville, the son of William R. Davidson and Rowena G. (Quimby) Davidson.

He attended Messalonskee High School and was employed by Colonial Distributors, Harris Baking Company, and Pine State. He enjoyed four-wheeling and fishing.

He was predeceased by his grandparents.

LINWOOD A. GROTTON

WINDSOR––SSgt. Linwood A. Grotton (Retired), born February 4, 1947, died at his home on Thursday, July 28, 2016, following a long illness.

Linwood “Woody” was a member of the United States Army for 21 years, serving during the times of Panama, Grenada and Vietnam and served one tour of duty in Korea. Linwood served four tours in Germany with his family and spent most of his military career in aviation and retired as a quality assurance/safety engineer and teacher for incoming aviation soldiers. He said upon discussing his time in the Army that he lived the longest camping trip of his life. Upon his retirement from the military he worked three years for Lockheed-Martin where he worked on aircraft across the country.

Linwood, with his wife Darlene, loved Munich, Germany, a favorite of theirs though they traveled extensively across both Europe and the United States with their daughters. Linwood was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman who loved taking his family camping. He was a protector, hero, and great father to his daughters and his marriage to Darlene was nothing less than adventurous. Through all life’s foibles and health concerns, Linwood lived each day to its fullest.

Linwood was a man who believed in family and shared this strong belief with his children and grandchildren. He loved history and learning about his ancestry. He was a man to be reckoned with, but a man whose heart far outweighed his gruff exterior. He was honest, honorable and real. He cared for those he loved with an unwavering loyalty.
He was predeceased by his mother, Alfreda (Young) Grotton and father, Leroy Henry Grotton; and brother Theodore Grotton.

Linwood is survived by his wife of 49 years, Darlene L. (Laukka) Grotton; five daughters, Tammy Anderson and husband, Erik, Lauri Alejandro, Heidi Grotton, Wendy Zwecker and husband Sam, and Billie Jean Niederowski and husband Mike; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Naomi Wilson and fiancé Joe, of Warren; brother Gregory Grotton and wife Joyce, of Union; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

WHITEFIELD––Donald A. Peaslee Jr., passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2016. Donald was born in Union on July 25, 1944.
In the summer of 1959 he met Barbara Jean Hall at a Knights of Columbus Hall dance. September 7, 1963, Donald and Barbara were married, lived in Whitefield and raised three children.

He is survived by his wife Barbara; daughter Tammy Peaslee, two sons, Scott Peaslee and wife Paula, Steve Peaslee and wife Bobbi-Jo; sister Vivian Gale; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three nieces and two nephews.

REGINALD W. GRENIER SR.

ALBION – Reginald W. Grenier Sr., 77, passed away Monday, August 1, 2016, at Maine General Medical Center, in Augusta. He was born June 1, 1939, in Waterville, the son of Leo Edmond and Lucille Grace (Gullifer) Grenier.

He was educated in the schools of Waterville and graduated from Waterville Senior High School in 1957, then continued his education at MVTI, graduating in 1960 earning an A.S. in electronics. On July 25, 1959, he married Pauline McCoy at Sacred Heart Church, in Waterville. He was a self-employed businessman for 22 years and owned and operated Grenier’s TV Repair. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, photography, was a watch collector, and loved to travel, and especially enjoyed riding trains and collected model trains as a hobby.

Reginald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pauline (McCoy) Grenier, of Albion; daughter, Robbin Henderson and husband Franklin, of South Berwick; three sons, Reginald Grenier, Jr and wife Wanda, of Waterville, Stephen Grenier and wife Brandi, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Michael Grenier, of Fairfield; brother, Eddie Grenier, of Winslow; sister, Diane Grenier, of Winslow; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren.

AUDREY I. TYLER

WINSLOW––Audrey I. (Witham) Tyler, passed away following a long battle with cardiac disease, on Thursday, August 4, 2016. Audrey was born on February 13, 1924, in Benton, to Elmer and Eliza (Shores) Witham.

She was the wife of Ervin H. Tyler and they shared 75 years together. Audrey lived in Freedom, and has resided in Winslow since 2002.
Audrey was a gentle, loving woman who always had a smile, and her twinkling brown eyes danced with excitement as she greeted everyone who touched her life.

As a child Audrey loved to slide, play in the brook building rafts, going to the movies with her father and cooking with her mother. She also enjoyed going to the coast with the family and going to local fairs. She loved sliding with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as playing basketball and cross country skiing, with she learned at age 70. In her later years, she enjoyed doing word search puzzles, playing beano, going for rides and meeting friends.

Audrey was a member of the Benton Falls Congregational Church, was a member of the Ladies Aide and cooked and worked on church suppers for years. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and was so excited to see them win the World Series three times. She attended the University of Maine’s women’s basketball games for years, even at the age of 85.

Audrey worked at the Winslow Poultry Plant for 29 years. She went there the day it opened and left the day it closed. She was a union representative and was well like and respected. She worked at the Mid_Maine Medical Center in the housekeeping department for 11 years and wa loved by staff and patients alike. She was made an honorary substance abuse counselor in recognition of the distinguished service, loving care and listening ear she gave to patients. They couldn’t say enough about the positive influence she was in their lives. Audrey was identified on several occasions as being an outstanding employee who committed a great deal to Mid-Maine’s caring environment. She was cited five times for giving extra care and kindness. Everyone who knew her loved her because they realized how much she cared for them.

Audrey took the initiative to do things on her own without being told, she was a very perceptive person, no wonder so many people looked up to her. One of her evaluators wrote, “she is very co-operative and understanding in all areas. She worked on detox, sixth hall. It isn’t an easy floor to work on, it takes a special understanding person to handle sixth hall and she is surely that type of person, a very polite, understanding and easy going person.”

Audrey was predeceased by her parents, Elmer (Joe) and Eliza Witham; her daughter, Nancy Tyler McCutcheon; sisters, Barbara Martin, Pauline Bessey; brother Irving Witham; sister-in-law, Maxine Gurney and husband Edmond; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband of 75 years, Ervin H. Tyler; she leaves one daughter, Bonnie R. Tyler; grandsons, Mark McCutcheon and wife Laurie, and Michael McCutcheon and wife Deanna; three great-grandchildren, Justin McCutcheon and wife, Sara, Kristi Francey and husband, Dana, and Ian McCutcheon; one great-great-grandchild, Madeline Francey; a son-in-law, Harold McCutcheon and friend, Sharon Lamb; niece and her family, Pamela Wallace and husband, Bob, Liza Wallace and Devon Wallace; nephews, Lawrence Lee and wife, Doreen, Dennis Witham and wife, Laura; and friend Alice Alexander.
