DANIEL S. HLOVAC SR.

JEFFERSON––Daniel S. Hlovac Sr., 57, of Jefferson, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at the local veterans hospital following a long battle with cancer. He was born on March 8, 1959, in Ohio and raised there.

He was a man who enjoyed being outdoors doing many different activities such as hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a thoughtful man and he could always make a good joke.

He is survived by wife Marcia (Sinerius) Hlovac, of 27 years; daughter,, Rachel (Hlovac) Allen and husband Nathaniel, and their children Charlotte and Cole; son, Daniel S. Hlovac Jr. and wife Melissa (Harney) Hlovac; as well as several sisters; one brother; and many nieces and nephews.

CLARA I. BROWN

JEFFERSON––Clara Isabel Brown, 85, of Jefferson, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016. She was born in Somerville on April 17, 1931, the daughter of Robert and Flossie Jones.

Clara attended Somervillle schools.

Growing up, she had a pair of oxen and yarded wood with them.

Clara married Wendell E. Brown on April 27, 1949, and the couple made their home in Jefferson.

She worked at GTE Sylvania for 35 years.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; son, Lloyd; brothers, Carroll and Clarence Jones; and sisters, Celia Hayes and Christine Barnett.

Clara is survived by guardian, Sarah Jones, of Jefferson; daughter, Linda Brown, of Augusta; brother-in-law, Nelson Brown and wife Louise, of Jefferson; sister-in-law, Hilda Benner; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

MILDRED B. WORTHLEY

OAKLAND––Mildred (Millie) B. Worthley, 77, died on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Glenridge Nursing Home, Augusta, following a three-year battle with Alzheimers Disease. She was born in Waterville on April 11, 1939, the daughter of Emanuel and Geraldine (Fournier) Joler.

Mildred graduated from Willliams High School, in Oakland. She was first employed by Diamond Internation where she met her future husband, and after a few years went to work for Keyes Fibre and Chinet Company and worked for 39 years. She married Kendall Worthley Sr. who still lives in Oakland, in November, 1957, and would have celebrated their 59th anniversary this year.

Mildred was a hard worker her entire live and even after retirement in 2002, spent her time volunteering many hours at the Sandwich Program and Soup Kitchen, in Waterville. She was a long time member of the Winslow Baptist Church and was willing to help out with various projects at the church donating her time wherever possible.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother Wayne Joler and a sister Claudia Holl.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Kendall Worthley Sr., of Oakland; two sons, Peter Worthley and wife Nancy, of Vassalboro, David Worthley, of Oakland; daughter, Lisa Champion and husband Doug, of Bowling Green, Kentucky; stepson, Kendall Worthley Jr. and wife Barbara, of Oakland; two sisters, Cynthia Peavey and husband Gordon,l of Clinton and Florida, and Bonnie Joler, of Kennebunk and husband Larry St. Peter, of Fort Kent; three grandchildren, Clark N. Champion, Molly T. Worthley and Samuel B. Worthley; as well as several nieces and nephews; and step-grandchildren.

NADINE I. JOHNSTON

OAKLAND––Nadine I. Johnston, 88, died Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Oak Grove Nursing Home, in Waterville. She was born in Oakland on February 18, 1928, the daughter of Roland and Viola (Ireland) Williams.

At a young age, Nadine was adopted and raised by her grandparents, Clydelia and Hosea Ireland.

Nadine graduated from Williams High School, in Oakland, class of 1946. Following graduation she went to work at Diamond Match and later for J.E. McCormack, in Waterville. When she finished at McCormack, she sold Tupperware from her home for many years.

Nadine was an active member of the Cascade Grange, played with the RB Hall Band for many years, and was a member of the Oakland United Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing and participated in many sewing circle groups. She enjoyed attending the activities of her children and grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clinton Johnston.

Surviving are her sons, Garnett Johnston and wife Susan, of Windham, and Olan Johnston and wife Christine, of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts; 10 grandchildren, Casey McCotter, Adam Johnston, Allison Johnston, Alex Johnston, Matthew Johnston, Nicholas Johnston, Ryder Johnston, Adler Johnston, Elijah Cormier, and Eleanor Johnston; great-granddaughter Lillian Johnston; sister Millideen King and husband Phil, of Oakland; three half-sisters, Maxine Johnson and husband Larry, of Norridgewock, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Williams Bechard and husband Emile, of Bar Harbor, and Linda Alderson, of Waterville.

STELLA K. BROWN

BENTON––Stella Katherine (Zimba) Brown, 94, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at her home in Benton. Stella was born in Waterville on November 12, 1921, the daughter of Lawrence and Joanne Zimba.

She was raised in Oakland where she attended Milton Laforest Williams High School.

After graduating from high school Stella went on to work as a spinner at the Cascade Woolen Mill, in Oakland, for many years until retiring to be at home to care for the family.

Stella enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, knitting, and crocheting. Her true passion was spending time with family and friends. Many of the activities she enjoyed were passed onto family and friends. Her granddaughter, Amanda, cherished many of these activities, specifically being taught how to knit at the age of nine. Not only were Stella’s activities passed down but also her baked goods, as Amanda’s children referred to Stella as “The Cookie Queen.”

Stella was predeceased by her husband Arthur; her parents; five brothers, two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her son Arthur (Chip) Brown Jr. and his wife Sandy; many nieces and nephews.

Stella is also survived by Sandy’s sister Cheryl Van Wagner and her daughter Amanda McCaslin. Cheryl spent a lot of time with Stella, going shopping, out to dinner, and when they did not go out, Cheryl would bring meals to Stella and visit for hours.

DAVID V. SHOREY, SR

PALERMO- David Victor Shorey Sr., 69,  passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at his home following a long illness. David was born in Palermo on February 12, 1947, the son of the late George F. Shorey and Josephine ( Grant) Shorey.

David married Dorothy-Ann Shannon-Shorey on September 24, 1994, in Waterville. David was a kind, gentle loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.DAVID V. SHOREY, SR

David attended Palermo Consolidated Elementary School. He played on the Palermo Pirates little league baseball team as a first baseman. David also attended Erskine Academy, in South China, and went on to graduate from Husson College, in Bangor,  with a bachelor’s degree in business

He lived most of his life in Palermo, but lived in Oakland for several years.

Earlier jobs prior to Camp Keyes included Bangor Savings Bank for three years, Walter Banton Lumber Mill for Harry Fridman, Bates Manufacturing, Laverdiere’s Drug Stores,  as assistant manager, he worked for a chicken/egg farmer thorugh high school; David also picked strawberries, raked blue berries, and raked bailed hay.

He was employed at the Maine Army National Guard Headquarters at Camp Keyes for 26 years, and served in the National Guard for 29 years. David worked in finance as a payroll disbursement specialist, and then in the computer department working with classified computer communications, responsible for receiving and sending highly classified information. David received numerous awards; Certificate of Achievements, Outstanding Performance, Certificate of Appreciation of Armed Forces Carrier, Commendation for 20 years of service, and a Certificate Appreciation Award for service during the Ice Storm of 1998.

David was a member of the American Legion, Malcolm Glidden Post #163, in Palermo, holding position of commander twice. This unit is very involved in community and active in Palermo Days.

He was a member of the Branch Mills Grange, where he joined at 14 attaining seven degrees. He held offices of past master twice, gate keeper and overseer, steward and assistant steward. David also was a member of Pomona and held offices there as well. David attended many annual conventions all over the US.

David attended the Palermo Christian Church until his illness prevented him from attending.

He was predeceased by a daughter Sandra Jean Pare; his sister Carol Adams; and his parents.

David is survived by his wife, Dorothy-Ann Shannon-Shorey ( Dottie); his stepchildren who he considered his own, Roger Gamblin and grandchildren Tyler and Caitlin, of Limington, Catherine Gamblin, of Fairfield, Elizabeth Stanley and her husband Rodney and grandson Garrett, of Standish; his son David Shorey Jr. and wife Ruby and grandchildren, Alana, Wade and Dominic, of Dery, New Hampshire; daughter Jennifer Collins and husband Charles, of West Gardiner; grandchildren, Josh Pare, of Vassalboro, Cassidy Smith, of Vassalboro; great-grandchildren Rachael and Chelsea, of Vassalboro; sister Jane Hamiliton, of Augusta; nephew Shawn Hamilton, of San Tan Valley, Arizona; niece Shannon Hamilton, of Augusta; two great-nephews, Kyle and Dylan; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jack and Beverly Shannon, of Westfield.

ALAN S. BAILEY

CHINA – Alan Stuart Bailey, 69, of China, passed away on Sunday morning, August 14, 2016.  He was the son of Donald and Florence Bailey of Johnston, Rhode Island, and resided there until 1976.

In 1976, he met and married his “sweet Caroline,” formerly Caroline Scheel, and together they started their life in Jamestown, Rhode Island, where they raised their three children, Lisa, Susan and James.

Alan started in the printing industry right after high school and sometimes worked 60 hours per week, perfecting his trade as a lithographer. Because of the quality of his work and dedication to perfection, Alan became known as “Ace Bailey” through the trade and his talent was often requested by the most demanding national publications.

In 1982, he took his wife and children on their first adventure to Maine. They fell in love with Maine and summered there every year; they bought their first camp there in 2000. When Alan and his wife both retired in 2006, they moved permanently to a little four-season cottage on China Lake.

He is survived by his wife Caroline; his children, Lisa King and her husband Boyd, Susan Bailey, James Bailey and his wife Rachel; his grandchildren, Michael, Kristy, and Stephanie; and his brother Kenneth Bailey, his sister Linda Bailey, and his very special brother Steven Bailey.

Carol graduated from Waterville High School, class of 1956, where she was a cheerleader, and participated on the debate and drama teams. She also attended Colby College, in Waterville, where she was chosen as homecoming queen, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in English Literature in 1960. Locally, she is survived by a brother Tom York and wife June, of Waterville, and sister Connie Huard and husband Randy, of Winslow.

LINWOOD A. GROTTON

WINDSOR––SSgt. Linwood A. Grotton (Retired), born February 4, 1947, died at his home on Thursday, July 28, 2016, following a long illness.

Linwood “Woody” was a member of the United States Army for 21 years, serving during the times of Panama, Grenada and Vietnam and served one tour of duty in Korea. Linwood served four tours in Germany with his family and spent most of his military career in aviation and retired as a quality assurance/safety engineer and teacher for incoming aviation soldiers. He said upon discussing his time in the Army that he lived the longest camping trip of his life. Upon his retirement from the military he worked three years for Lockheed-Martin where he worked on aircraft across the country.

Linwood, with his wife Darlene, loved Munich, Germany, a favorite of theirs though they traveled extensively across both Europe and the United States with their daughters. Linwood was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman who loved taking his family camping. He was a protector, hero, and great father to his daughters and his marriage to Darlene was nothing less than adventurous. Through all life’s foibles and health concerns, Linwood lived each day to its fullest.

Linwood was a man who believed in family and shared this strong belief with his children and grandchildren. He loved history and learning about his ancestry. He was a man to be reckoned with, but a man whose heart far outweighed his gruff exterior. He was honest, honorable and real. He cared for those he loved with an unwavering loyalty.
He was predeceased by his mother, Alfreda (Young) Grotton and father, Leroy Henry Grotton; and brother Theodore Grotton.

Linwood is survived by his wife of 49 years, Darlene L. (Laukka) Grotton; five daughters, Tammy Anderson and husband, Erik, Lauri Alejandro, Heidi Grotton, Wendy Zwecker and husband Sam, and Billie Jean Niederowski and husband Mike; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Naomi Wilson and fiancé Joe, of Warren; brother Gregory Grotton and wife Joyce, of Union; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

WHITEFIELD––Donald A. Peaslee Jr., passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2016. Donald was born in Union on July 25, 1944.
In the summer of 1959 he met Barbara Jean Hall at a Knights of Columbus Hall dance. September 7, 1963, Donald and Barbara were married, lived in Whitefield and raised three children.

He is survived by his wife Barbara; daughter Tammy Peaslee, two sons, Scott Peaslee and wife Paula, Steve Peaslee and wife Bobbi-Jo; sister Vivian Gale; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three nieces and two nephews.

REGINALD W. GRENIER SR.

ALBION – Reginald W. Grenier Sr., 77, passed away Monday, August 1, 2016, at Maine General Medical Center, in Augusta. He was born June 1, 1939, in Waterville, the son of Leo Edmond and Lucille Grace (Gullifer) Grenier.page4pict1

He was educated in the schools of Waterville and graduated from Waterville Senior High School in 1957, then continued his education at MVTI, graduating in 1960 earning an A.S. in electronics. On July 25, 1959, he married Pauline McCoy at Sacred Heart Church, in Waterville. He was a self-employed businessman for 22 years and owned and operated Grenier’s TV Repair. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, photography, was a watch collector, and loved to travel, and especially enjoyed riding trains and collected model trains as a hobby.

Reginald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pauline (McCoy) Grenier, of Albion; daughter, Robbin Henderson and husband Franklin, of South Berwick; three sons, Reginald Grenier, Jr and wife Wanda, of Waterville, Stephen Grenier and wife Brandi, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Michael Grenier, of Fairfield; brother, Eddie Grenier, of Winslow; sister, Diane Grenier, of Winslow; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren.

AUDREY I. TYLER

WINSLOW––Audrey I. (Witham) Tyler, passed away following a long battle with cardiac disease, on Thursday, August 4, 2016. Audrey was born on February 13, 1924, in Benton, to Elmer and Eliza (Shores) Witham.

She was the wife of Ervin H. Tyler and they shared 75 years together. Audrey lived in Freedom, and has resided in Winslow since 2002.
Audrey was a gentle, loving woman who always had a smile, and her twinkling brown eyes danced with excitement as she greeted everyone who touched her life.

As a child Audrey loved to slide, play in the brook building rafts, going to the movies with her father and cooking with her mother. She also enjoyed going to the coast with the family and going to local fairs. She loved sliding with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as playing basketball and cross country skiing, with she learned at age 70. In her later years, she enjoyed doing word search puzzles, playing beano, going for rides and meeting friends.

Audrey was a member of the Benton Falls Congregational Church, was a member of the Ladies Aide and cooked and worked on church suppers for years. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and was so excited to see them win the World Series three times. She attended the University of Maine’s women’s basketball games for years, even at the age of 85.

Audrey worked at the Winslow Poultry Plant for 29 years. She went there the day it opened and left the day it closed. She was a union representative and was well like and respected. She worked at the Mid_Maine Medical Center in the housekeeping department for 11 years and wa loved by staff and patients alike. She was made an honorary substance abuse counselor in recognition of the distinguished service, loving care and listening ear she gave to patients. They couldn’t say enough about the positive influence she was in their lives. Audrey was identified on several occasions as being an outstanding employee who committed a great deal to Mid-Maine’s caring environment. She was cited five times for giving extra care and kindness. Everyone who knew her loved her because they realized how much she cared for them.

Audrey took the initiative to do things on her own without being told, she was a very perceptive person, no wonder so many people looked up to her. One of her evaluators wrote, “she is very co-operative and understanding in all areas. She worked on detox, sixth hall. It isn’t an easy floor to work on, it takes a special understanding person to handle sixth hall and she is surely that type of person, a very polite, understanding and easy going person.”

Audrey was predeceased by her parents, Elmer (Joe) and Eliza Witham; her daughter, Nancy Tyler McCutcheon; sisters, Barbara Martin, Pauline Bessey; brother Irving Witham; sister-in-law, Maxine Gurney and husband Edmond; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband of 75 years, Ervin H. Tyler; she leaves one daughter, Bonnie R. Tyler; grandsons, Mark McCutcheon and wife Laurie, and Michael McCutcheon and wife Deanna; three great-grandchildren, Justin McCutcheon and wife, Sara, Kristi Francey and husband, Dana, and Ian McCutcheon; one great-great-grandchild, Madeline Francey; a son-in-law, Harold McCutcheon and friend, Sharon Lamb; niece and her family, Pamela Wallace and husband, Bob, Liza Wallace and Devon Wallace; nephews, Lawrence Lee and wife, Doreen, Dennis Witham and wife, Laura; and friend Alice Alexander.

FLORENCE I. DOWLING

WHITEFIELD––Florence Irene Dowling, 83, wife of the late James Dowling, both of Whitefield, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016  at MaineGeneral in Augusta. She was born in Alna on October 29, 1932, and attended a one-room school house in Edgecomb where she lived for all of her younger years.

She married Millard Spinney and they had one child. She then met her husband James Dowling in Wiscasset where they married and lived for several years before moving to Whitefield where they settled and raised their very large, somewhat crazy, family. They were married for 56 years or as she would say forever.

Florence, or Flossy as many called her, was a beautiful artist, a woman who loved making stuffed bears and dolls of all sorts. She enjoyed giving them to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In her early years she loved playing her guitar and singing, mostly classic older country, she loved shooting her gun, she was often called Annie Oakley, as she never missed her mark. In her younger years she was an avid horseback rider, generally riding with her late husband on trails or just through the woods. She loved to read and was a great cook. Her favorite times were spent with family.

Florence was predeceased by mother, Adela James; father, Lloyd James; husband, James Dowling; uncle, Joseph Hogan and wife Marjorie.

She is survived by sons, Millard Spinney and wife Jeanne, of Alaska, James Dowling Jr. and wife Cathy, of Dresden, and Jonathan Dowling, of Whitefield; daughters, Lori Allen and husband Jon, of Whitefield, Pamela Perry and husband Burt, of Whitefield, and Paula Engstrom and husband Kraig, of Whitefield; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Bougie and husband Joseph, of Sanford.

LOUIS H. GOODWIN

WINSLOW––Louis H. Goodwin, 100, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016, at his home in Winslow. Louis was born in Rumford to Frank and Mary (Therault) Goodwin on June 15, 1916.

His family moved to Madison when he was a child, where he attended local schools and graduated from Madison High School in 1936. On August 12, 1939, he married Rachael Mathieu.

His first job was as a milk deliveryman, followed by working at the Madison woolen mill for ten years. He later worked hand-sewing shoes at Skowhegan Shoe for 22 years, and finally worked as a custodian and bus driver for M.S.A.D. 59, Madison, for 15 years until his retirement at age 70 in 1986.

Despite working very hard to support his family, Louis always made time to spend with them. For example, after working all day, he would take his oldest son on a bicycle to go fishing.

He loved baseball, especially watching the Red Sox play. He also loved taking long walks, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and going to play bingo with his wife and friends.

For all of the things he did throughout his life, he will be best remembered as a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather.

Louis was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, and a sister.

He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Rachael; two sons, Peter Goodwin and wife Adeline, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Paul Goodwin and wife Jennifer, of Madison; eight grandchildren, Michelle Goodwin, Mark Goodwin, Anita Krazenski, Danny Goodwin, Christina Sylvestre, Erica Violette, Ryan Goodwin and Adam; special niece Patricia Tobey and husband Harry, as well as several other nieces and nephews.

He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know and love him.

LEON O. RICHARD

OAKLAND––Leon Omer Richard passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2016, at his home. Born on July 11, 1932, in Vassalboro, he was the son of Hubert and Paula (Picard) Richard.

He was drafted by the United States Army, and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Upon returning from Korea, he married Beverly Jean (Pare), on February 12, 1955. Leon and Beverly resided in Vassalboro, where they raised their six children. A member of the plumber’s union, Leon was a hardworking, skilled master plumber who worked on many large building projects in the area. He would later be employed by the Maine Central Railroad, where he worked for 18 years, retiring in 1997.

Leon was a remarkable man who took great pride in his role as a devoted husband, father, grandfather “pup” and great-grandfather. He loved his wife, six children, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, wholeheartedly and unconditionally. He could often be heard saying, “I love you,” to each of them, and he gave the gift of many hugs. He was so very proud of his family, and he loved to be surrounded by them, whenever he could be.

Next to his family, Leon’s other joy was staying active, which he did, up until the last week of his life. He enjoyed several daily walks around the cul-de-sac, and always took the time to stop to talk to the neighbors, and enjoy the birds and other wildlife around him. On any given day, you might also see him whirling around on his mini golf cart that he referred to as “Fred’s Green Machine.”

An incredibly humble man, he was self-sacrificing, strong and soft-hearted; and he will forever be admired and cherished. He will be sorely missed, but his infinite love and his legacy will live on through his loving family.

He was predeceased by his parents (Hubert and Paula Richard), sister Yvette Goodrich, and brother Daniel Richard.

WINSLOW––Rosalie Palow, 80, of Winslow, died on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. She was born on April 14, 1936, and was the daughter of Bernard and Yvonne (Boivin) Poulin.

She grew up in Vassalboro and attended l local schools. She would go to work at the chicken plant until it closed and then worked in the K-Mart restaurant until it closed–she then retired. Rosalie enjoyed helping others. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, in Winslow.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers-in-law Arthur Dutil and Harley Mairs and her nephew Michael Mairs.

PALERMO – Ronald “Ronnie” Howard Sherman, 74, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at home. He was born October 30, 1941, in Waterville, the son of Howard Wales and Virgeline Lucille Sherman.

Ronnie loved all things hunting and fishing. He instilled a love for both in his son and his grandchildren. Visiting the deer farm, helping his son, Kirk, with the chores, and feeding the deer apples, were among his favorite things. He coached Little League and softball when his children were young. He was very proud of his family and always did what he could to help his children.

He was a volunteer firefighter with the North Vassalboro Fire Department and worked for Cianbro Corp., of Pittsfield,  at a young age. He retired from Huhtamaki after 33 years as a south end panel operator with Union Local #449. That is where he met his lifelong friend, Leo Beaulieu. They spent many hours together fishing, hunting, and four wheeling.

Ronnie is survived by two daughters, Kim Young and husband Jeff, of Albion, Karen Parisien and fiancé Joseph “J.B.” Lewis, of China; one son, Kirk Sherman and wife Judy, of China; grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, Amy, Jesse, Kayla, Corbin, Brianna, Josh, Brittany, Harvey, Kiki, and Kali; great grandchildren, Katie, Lucas, Sawyer, Parker, Madyson, Zayne, and Colt; sister, Cynthia French of China; niece, Keeley French; nephew, Herbert French; great niece, Breama French.

He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Virgeline Sherman; and wife Jane Sherman. They were married for 52 years and life wasn’t the same for him after she passed on December 27, 2014. They are together again.

Their wishes were to be buried together. A graveside service for both Jane and Ronnie will be held Saturday, August 6, at 1 p.m., at the Village Cemetery, in Vassalboro, with Dennis Keller, family friend, officiating.

WATERVILLE – Edith Marie Greene, 90, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta . She was born March 27, 1926, in Waterville, the daughter of Axel H. And Alice M. (Johansson) Frodahl.

She was employed for many years by Diamond International, in Oakland. She was a member of Assemblies of God Church and taught Sunday school. Edith enjoyed cooking and baking. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she was always ready for a game with the kids or a cup of coffee and a kind word for all. Her kind heart filled our lives with joy and laughter.

Edith is survived by husband Edward O. CHARLENE E. MATHIEU

OAKLAND––Charlene Eva Scott Mathieu, 86, of Hobe Sound, Florida, and Oakland, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016. Charlene was born in Wytopitlock on January 11, 1930, the daughter of Walter and Eva Scott.

She graduated from Clinton High School in 1948, and the Sisters School of nursing in 1951. She spent the next 37 years working in her chosen profession before retiring in 1988.

In 1951 she married,Roger Mathieu. Charlene and Roger were married for 57 years until his passing in 2008. Their married life was filled with many happy years, sharing their love of dancing, skiing, travel, playing cards and socializing with friends and family. After retirement they greatly enjoyed spending winters in Florida and summers in Maine.

Charlene was a very loving and caring person, and was always there to help family and friends. She was a great storyteller, had a wonderful sense of humor, a hearty and infectious laugh, and always had a twinkle in her eye. She was zestful, enjoyed life, and was delightful to be around.

She was predeceased by her nephew, Kevin Scott.

Charlene is survived by her brothers Earl Scott and Walter Scott; brother-in-law Armand Mathieu and wife Bonnie; nieces, Becky Klaiber, Debbie Jensen, Melisa Silva, Lisa Scott, Julie Mathieu, Linda Nelson, and Rose Lovecchio; and her nephews, Bruce Mast and Michael Mathieu.

Memorial services will be held on August 8 at 11 a.m. at Notre Dame Church on Silver Street in Waterville, followed by a burial at St. Francis Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held afterwards at the Mathieu residence on Messalonskee Lake in Oakland.

JEFFERSON––Kathleen “Kathy” Waltz, 77, of Jefferson, passed away at home on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, following a lengthy illness. The youngest of eight children, Kathy was born on September 25, 1938, in Jefferson, a daughter of Lydia Sprague and Albert Weaver.

She attended local schools and proudly earned her GED later in life.

Her hobbies and interests were many. She enjoyed collecting knick-knacks, crafting, decorating for the holidays, baking and coffee and conversations with friends and relatives. The pure enjoyment of eating her minced deer meat pie and fudge will be longed for by many.

Kathy especially delighted in spending time with friends and family. She enjoyed traveling to Maui, playing cribbage and other card games, and numerous long chats with her close friend, Donna Williams. Kathy had an open and welcoming door to all, but an even larger open and welcoming heart to so many.

She was predeceased by siblings, Dot Gautreau, Maxine McKay, Esther Cheney, Ruth Peaslee, Bernice Morais, and Donald Weaver.

JEFFERSON––Timothy “Tim” E. Quirion, 61, of Jefferson, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2016, following a 15-year battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease and MS. Tim was born in Augusta on January 25, 1955, the son of Romeo O. and Vivian May (York) Quirion.

GERALD T. TREADWELL

OAKLAND––A life-long resident of Oakland, Gerald T. Treadwell, 66, died on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, from the cumulative effects of a stroke. That stroke hit on Memorial Day, 2008. Gerald held on at home for five years, before relocating to Woodlawn Rehab & Nursing, in Skowhegan––the location of his death. Gerald was born on May 5, 1950, in Waterville. He was the younger of two sons born to Trueman B. and Lois M. (Day) Treadwell.

He attended Oakland schools.

Gerald enjoyed following sports until his final years. While he cheered for the Bruins and Celtics, his other pro favorites were the New York Giants and Yankees. He was able to attend several pro baseball games. His longest faithful attendance, however, was at countless Colby College sporting events, where he could be seen at almost all home games and meets for all sports. Some coaches and players recognized that loyalty with souvenir presentations.

He also loved visiting Acadia National Park, and took many hikes on, up, and down its trails with his brother or friends.

Gerald was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his brother, Robert (“R.D.”) and cousins.

OAKLAND––On Thursday, July 7, 2016, Lawrence B. Wiles, 76, of Oakland passed away after battling leukemia for two years. Larry was born to Roland and Della (Perkins) Wiles on November 30, 1939, in Hartland.

Due to the passing of his mother shortly after his birth, he was raised by his grandparents, Bert and Gertrude Wiles in Palmyra and Vassalboro.

He graduated from Erskine Academy in 1957.

He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Judith Ann (Mitchell) Wiles; five children, Suzanne E. (Wiles) Vanley and husband Brian, of San Antonio, Texas, Roderick L. Wiles and wife Lori, of Skowhegan, Martin W. Wiles and wife Linda, of Manchester, Jeffrey W. Wiles and wife Sandi, of Mt. Vernon, and Talitha L. Wiles, of Oakland; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. FAIRFIELD––Mary Winniebell McCormick, 100, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016. Winnie, as she was known, was born May 27, 1916, to Harold and Nacie (Charity) Bealieu in Waterville.

She attended Fairfield schools and later worked at the woolen mill.

She married Irwin Harold Bristol and had one son, Chester “Kenny” Allan Bristol, born August 1, 1952. Together Mary and Irwin owned the Harley/Indian motorcycle dealership and the Bristol Hilltop Cabins and Restaurant in Moscow. Irwin passed away in 1966. Mary then replaced her late husband as the postmaster in Moscow until the office was closed. Mary later married Hugh “Mac” McCormick. They enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing together.

Mary was always proud of her flower gardens and her knitting. She loved spending time with all of her family and taking her annual motorcycle ride with her son every summer.

Mary was predeceased by both of her parents Nacie and Harold Bealieu.

VIRGINIA R. SYLVESTER

ALBION––Virginia Rideout Sylvester. 90. passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016, following a long illness. Affectionately known as Jinny, she was born on August 1, 1925, daughter of Vinal and Susie (Hussey) Rideout.

Jinny attended Albion schools, graduating from Besse High School in 1943. After high school she attended Gates Business College, in Augusta, and then worked for the state of Maine until her marriage to Ted Carver in 1945.Jinny and Ted raised their children, Larry, Pat, Terri, and Sue in Albion until Ted’s death in 1963.

Jinny married Bob Sylvester in November 1965. Bob and Jinny lived and enjoyed their life in Albion for 50 years. Jinny served as town clerk in Albion in the 1960s. She then worked for Dr. Craine in Albion and left to work for Dr. Diehl and Dr. Pratt, in Waterville, until her retirement in the 1980s.

Jinny loved music, playing piano and singing all her life. She sang in the church choir at Fairfield’s United Methodist Church for many years. JEANETTE C. HACHEY, 89, of Daytona Beach, Florida, died on Saturday, June 18, 2016. She was born in Waterville, October 12, 1926, the daughter of Dominique and Estelle Daviau Casavant.

She graduated from Waterville High School in 1943, and resided in Winslow following her marriage to Joseph Hachey. She was an assistant city clerk in Waterville, later becoming the secretary to Waterville Mayor George Doyle. After helping her husband open Hachey’s Market, she went to work at Scott Paper Company, retiring in 1987. She and her husband relocated to Daytona Beach in 2001.

SPRING, TEXAS – Carole Joan Wood Bosma, 78, of Spring, Texas passed away September 22, 2015. Carole was born in Waterville, Maine on April 9, 1937. Although she lived in Texas she always considered Maine her Home. Carole was your typical “down Maine girl”.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents Lillian Moore Wood and Clarence T. Wood of Waterville, Maine; mother and father -in-law Edward and Rosalie Hagen of China, Maine; and brother-in-law Kenneth Hagen of China, Maine.

RAYMOND M. MCCASLIN

WINSLOW––Raymond M. McCaslin passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016. He was the son of Martin and Etta (Holt) McCaslin, born in East Winslow. Raymond grew up on the Nowell Road, in East Winslow.

Raymond attended Winslow High School and in 1942 enlisted in the United States Navy. He entered active service of World War II on June 18, 1943, where he would serve as an electricians mate on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Bunker Hill and two repair ships, the U.S.S. Kent Island and U.S.S. Minotaur. He was honorably discharged on May 11, 1946.

He married Yvette (Marcia) in 1947, celebrating 68 years of marriage. They purchased a home on the Nowell Road, not far from where Ray grew up. Ray and Yvette worked hand-in-hand on their farm in Winslow. He was a gifted craftsman; loved farming, gardening and working in the woods. Later, he and Yvette enjoyed snowmobiling for many years during their retirement.

He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife, Yvette; his sister, Virginia Lang; his brother, Bernard; his devoted friend and neighbor, Larry Pelotte; and his cousin, Walter McCaslin, who was like a brother.

Raymond is survived by his sister, Geneva Ahearn; his son, Daniel McCaslin and wife Betty, of Waterville; his daughter, Jean Ann Main and her husband Richard, of Lebanon; and his granddaughter Shannon Olson and her husband Tim, of Cutler; as well as several stepgrandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Norma McCaslin; many devoted nieces and nephews; and his cousin, Leola Mae (McCaslin) Roberts who was born on October 31, 1913.

HORACE “HOD” C. LIBBY

WINSLOW––Horace “Hod” Clinton Libby, 90, passed away on June 15, 2016, at home. He was born to Howard and Christine (Bradbury) Libby, in Lewiston on July 18, 1925, and grew up in Auburn.

Following graduation from Edward Little High School, Hod served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1947, he married Roberta Watson and they settled in Freeport where he managed The Men’s Shop, was owner and proprietor of Mid-Town Apparel, and worked as a retail clerk for L. L. Bean before retiring in 1987.

Hod was well-known for his baking/cooking, gardening, crafting and singing (choir/barbershop). His sense of humor and caring ways made him loved by all who knew him. He loved traveling with Roberta to many places especially Europe for the 50th Anniversary of D-Day.

Horace was predeceased by his wife, Roberta, and brothers Arnold, Gerry and Robert.

He is survived by daughters Wendy (Robert) Nutting, of Oakland, and Cathy Brann, of Topsham; grandchildren Cheri Nutting (Michael Briggs), of New Hampshire, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Michaud, of Topsham, Christine Nutting (Tyler Jandreau), of Waterville, and Steven (Elizabeth), of Oakland; and great-grandchildren William Potter, Anna and Eliza Briggs, Keely and Stella Nutting, and Nolan and Miles Michaud; brother Warren Libby, and sisters Harriett Kilbride and Geraldine Call; plus many nieces and nephews.

NANCY M. SMITH

OAKLAND – Nancy Marie Lagasse Smith, 53, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, following a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer. Nancy was born in Waterville on January 7, 1963, to Alfred and Irene (Vigue) Lagasse. Nancy graduated from Winslow High School.NANCY M. SMITH

Nancy spent most of her working years at Hannaford Supermarket and made many lifelong friends there. Nancy’s dedicated work ethic spilled over into her personal life, making her a caregiver to her parents, her husband Wayne, and Bill’s mother, Shirley. .

An active home-body, Nancy enjoyed taking walks, cooking, knitting, finding a treasure while lawn-saleing, and tending to her garden. Having been welcomed into the church, Nancy helped out at various events at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church despite her failing health, quickly becoming a cherished part of their family. Nancy was consistently supporting her nieces and nephews in their milestone events. Despite the difficulties of her health issues, Nancy remained positive and cheerful, always welcoming visitors. If you were lucky enough to know Nancy, then you were lucky enough.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Irene Mary (Vigue) Lagasse; and her husband Wayne Smith.

Survivors include her fiancé Bill Paquet, of Oakland, her sisters Joan Cates, of Winslow, Anita Howard and husband Tim, of Vassalboro, Diane Murphy, of Leeds, Theresa Kimball and husband Mike, of Vassalboro, Janice Knowles and significant other Jarod Waraskevich, of Waterville; brothers Donald Lagasse and wife Linda, of Winslow, Robert Lagasse and wife Tina, of Vassalboro, and Richard Lagasse and wife Penny, of Vassalboro; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews; greatnieces and greatnephews.

CHRISTINE T. WRIGHT

EAST VASSALBORO––Christine Thomas Wright passed away at her home in East Vassalboro on Saturday, June 18, 2016. She was born in Lewiston on September 22, 1926, the daughter of Carl Anton and Dorathea Thomas.

She grew up in Eustis, spending summers at King and Bartlett Sporting Camps. She graduated from Stratton High School in 1943, and from Augusta General (MaineGeneral) Hospital School of Nursing in 1947 as an R.N. She began her nursing career at Augusta General (MaineGeneral); then went to Franklin Memorial, in Farmington, and Thayer Hospital, in Waterville, retiring from the state of Maine hospital licensing board in 1987.

She was predeceased by her husband, Louis E. Wright Jr., in 1975; and her brother, John Thomas, in 2011.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Pulkka, of Ocala, Florida; her son Scott Wright, of East Vassalboro; grandchildren, Karen Pulkka, of Ocala, Florida, Nicole Wright, of Augusta, Nathan Wright, of East Vassalboro; great-granddaughter, Amya Hertler, of Augusta; and special friend and cousin, Arlene Smiley, of China.

She was a class act, right to the end!

MARLENE A. BERNIER

Marlene “Mo” Ann Bernier, 66, died Saturday, June 18, 2016, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta, following a lengthy illness brought on by the complications of diabetes.  She was born in Waterville on October 13, 1949, to Eugene and Rita (LeClair) Pomerleau.

She was educated in Waterville and graduated from Mount Merici Academy in 1967. She attended Rivier College, in New Hampshire.

MARLENE A. BERNIERShe married Daniel Gene Bernier in 1969.  They had three sons together and she stayed at home to raise them.  In the 1980s she and her husband operated D&M Variety, in Winslow.  Mo enjoyed quilting.  She loved candlepin bowling, cooking for her family, and any time she could spend on any lake.  She enjoyed trips to Addison to purchase fresh wild blueberries.  She also looked forward to the Windsor Fair every year to bet on the horses and watch her children attempt to win her a stuffed animal at the games, though they weren’t always successful.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Daniel, of Winslow; three sons, Scott and his wife Claire Curole, of Augusta, Christopher and his wife Yvette, of Winslow; and Jonathan, of Winslow, and his girlfriend, Amanda Doucette, of Albion; one adopted daughter, Joanne Quirion, of Waterville; one step-granddaughter, Paige Spears, of Winslow; two adopted grandsons, Ronnie and Cody Quirion, of Waterville; and many cousins, nieces & nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and several aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 1, 2016, from 6 to 7 p.m., early arrival no earlier than 5:30 p.m., at the VFW, in Winslow located at 175 Veterans drive.  A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 2, 2016, from noon to 6:00 p.m., with potluck optional at the home of Christopher andYvette Bernier, 12 Woodlawn Drive, Winslow. BERNICE C. NUTTING

FAIRFIELD – Bernice C. “Bunnie” Nutting, 95, passed away quietly on Saturday, June 18, 2016. She was born on September 11, 1920, the only daughter of Cecile and Henry McGraw. BERNICE C. NUTTING

She attended schools in Fairfield, and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1938. In 1940, she married Cecil L. Nutting and their legacy of the “Nutting Clan” began.

She was a busy homemaker for most of her life, but still was able to  participate in many minstrel shows and in later years danced with the Foxy Ladies. She was formerly employed by Dunham’s of Maine, in Waterville, and the Bonnet Shop, in Skowhegan.

Although plagued by tragedy and loss, and the aches of older age, she always maintained her “move forward” attitude. She was a weekly player of bridge, an active participant with her “Thursday Girls,” a well-outfitted lady in the Red Hat Society, a popular patron of Eric’s Restaurant and, with some help from her family, maintained her home, independence, and her active social life.

Her grandchildren’s memories are filled with special foods she made for them, trips to Greenville, and the surprising fact that Nana, always the lady, “got” a bawdy joke.

She was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years in 1991; two daughters, Carol and Betsy, in a fire in 1961; a daughter, Sandra Laliberty in 1971; daughter-in-law, Judith Nutting in 1982; and grandson, Michael Batey in 2015.

She leaves behind her son, James Nutting and his wife, Lynne, of Fairfield, and children, Kimberly Dunton and her husband, Travis, of Pittsfield and their son, Mackenzie, and Michael Nutting and wife, Jane, of Fairfield and their sons, Jordan and J.T.; Michael Batey’s wife, Jennifer, of Vassalboro, and their daughter, Adelia, Cory Nutting and wife, Jill, of Fairfield, and their son, Conner, Kelly Alley and her husband, Jeff, of Albion, and their son, Zachary and daughter, Raygen, Kevin Nutting and his wife, Jaime, of Waterville and their son, Kobe; her son Lindsay Nutting and companion, Tammy Long, of Belgrade, and his daughters, Meghan Nutting and Morgan Nutting, both of Colorado, and her daughter, Etta; granddaughters, Jane Leathers and husband, Carl, of Fairfield, and their sons, Alex and Jimmy, and Jill Duelly, of Waterville, and her sons, Kyle and Kris.

ROBERT R. MELCHER

WINSLOW––Robert Russell Melcher, 78, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016, at the VA Healthcare System in Augusta. He was born on March 6, 1938, in Claremont, New Hampshire, the son of Edward R. and Laudina M. (Coulombe) Melcher.

He was educated in the schools of Jay and graduated from Jay High School in 1956 and then continued his education at the Auburn Maine School of Commerce, graduating in 1957. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the US Army until his honorable discharge. On October 6, 1957, he married Rhoda L. Cameron, of North Jay.

Over the years Robert was employed by Norrwock Shoe, in North Jay and Norridgewock, Truitt Brothers, in Belfast, and Bass Shoe, in Wilton and South Portland. He was a member of the American Legion of Skowhegan and a volunteer firefighter for the town of Norridgewock. Robert enjoyed collecting coins as well as playing golf, baseball and rag ball with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also had a strong love for old time country music.

He was predeceased by his parents; and sisters, Violet Viotto and Marceline O’Brion.

He is survived by his wife, Rhoda L. (Cameron) Melcher, of Winslow; children, Robert and Erica Melcher, Dwayne and Ming Melcher, Cindy and Doug Wyman, Jeff and Jenny Melcher, and Anne and Mike Latendresse; grandchildren, Justin and Kelly Melcher, Colleen Melcher, Daryl Wyman, Jimmy and Kristin Melcher, Colette and Kassidy Latendresse; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Brandon and Brooklyn Wyman, Jude Melcher Le and Tanner Melcher; siblings, Terry Bergeron, Edward Melcher Jr., Larry Melcher; and several nieces and nephews.

MAYNARD C. GRAY

FAIRFIELD––Maynard Carl Gray, 84, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. He was born on January 25, 1932, in Belfast, to Carl and Ethel (Boynton) Gray.

He attended Belfast schools, then served in the U.S. Air Force for four years as a radar technician. After an honorable discharge, he attended Coyne Electrical & Technical School, in Boston, for electrical drafting and estimating. He was employed by Bath Iron Works and later was self-employed, selling and servicing farm machinery and milking systems throughout the state for many years.

He was known for his wonderful dry sense of humor.

On November 11, 1952, he married the former, Larita Walker, of Belfast, and together they had five children: Mitchell (wife Marianne, children Austin and Colette), of Florida, Pamela Gray begin (husband Lewis, daughter Alisa Johnson), of Fairfield, Joel (wife Judy, daughter Tarsha Donar) of Utah, Sandra Gray Brice (husband James, sons Christopher and Evan), of Florida, and Nancy Gray Green (children Kyle and Kari Stevens), of Clinton.

Maynard and Rita loved to visit flea markets, looking for collectibles to restore. He restored many antique cars, gas pumps and Tonka toys. They also enjoyed traveling to various states to visit their children and grandchildren.

Maynard was predeceased by his parents; and brother, Robert Gray..

He is survived by his loving wife; his five children; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Gray, of Washington; sister Marion Anderson, of Searsport; and brother, John Gray, of Belfast.

PATRICIA M. PELLETIER

WINSLOW––Patricia M. Pelletier, 80, of Winslow died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at her home, following an illness. Born in Winslow, she was the daughter of Anthony and Florence (Vigue) Paradis.

She attended Winslow schools and married her husband Don in 1955.

Pat loved caring for her children and all of their many friends who visited. There was always room for one more at the table with plenty of home-cooked food and baked goods; she continued this spirit and generosity until the day she passed. She loved having craft days with daughters, grandchildren and her many friends. She was always full of life, listening to her music, all the while dancing and singing for everyone, especially her grandchildren, who would always brighten her day when they visited.

She was predeceased by her husband of 29 years, who died in 1984; her son, Donald; two brothers, Larry Paradis and Anthony Paradis; her sister, Theresa Drouin; and a very special aunt and uncle, Adelard and Emeline Paradis.

WADE BULLARD

WINSLOW – Wade Bullard, 57, passed away in his home on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, after a good-natured battle with terminal cancer. He will be remembered always for his laughter, his generosity, and his love of family.

WADE BULLARD

Wade was an active member of his community. He enjoyed supporting the local theater company, ACAT Theater, as set builder, lighting technician, and fun-loving host of cast parties. He donated regularly to the Winslow Snowdrifters and the Maine Snowmobile Association. Wade brought great enthusiasm to the music boosters when his daughters were in the local school system, cooking up hot dogs in the Band Shack and also serving as the organization’s president. Wade never hesitated to chaperone his daughters school trips when asked to do so, and segued easily into supporting his grandson William, cheering him on at sporting events and play swordfighting on demand.

Born in Milwaukie, Wisconsin, Wade’s formative years were spent in the Waterville area, and though he graduated from Unionville High School, in Pennsylvania, he always considered himself a Mainer and loved living here. Wade loved telling tall tales in an exaggerated Maine accent, and loved his work as proprietor of The Stove Barn, in Winslow. His knowledge ran deep in his chosen field and he could sit for hours chatting with customers and friends. He spent equal time with oldtimers coming in to shoot the breeze, young folks just starting out, and everyone in between. All benefited from Wade’s generous nature and his ability to create solutions for alternative hearing needs and desires.

Wade was predeceased by his mother, Beverly Jane Bullard.

Wade is survived by his wife Suzanne and two daughters, Esther Bullard and her husband Mark Bouchard and their children, William, Victoria and Dylon, and Christine O’Brian and her husband Jeremy and their daughter Ehlaina. He is also survived by his father Mack Bullard and partner Elizabeth Luber; his sister Deborah Bullard and her family Mark Fry and Annie; and brother, Brett Bullard.

STEPHEN N. WAINER

FAIRFIELD – Stephen “Stiffy” N. Wainer, 98, passed away peacefully at the Togus Hospice Facility in Augusta, on Friday, June 10, 2016. He was born July 17, 1917, in Massachusetts, the son of William and Anna Wainer.

He was an avid outdoors man who loved fishing, hunting, was a past member of the NRA, gardening, and woodworking when he was able. He traveled and was fortunate to turn age 75 in Alaska! In his younger years, he was a veteran who proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II, until his honorable discharge.

Stephen is survived by his son, Michael Wainer and wife Barbara, of Fairfield; three grandchildren, Debra Labonte, of Waterville, Michael Wainer and wife Wendi, of Rome, Kimberly Wainer and Danyl Dixon, of Benton; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces.

AVALON J. VIGUE

WHITEFIELD – Avalon Joyce Vigue, 88, of Whitefield, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016. Avalon was born, in Gardiner, on August 8, 1927, the daughter of Lyndal and Olive Goud.

She grew up in Dresden.  Avalon graduated from Bridge Academy class of 1945 and Kennebec School of Commerce, in Gardiner.

On February 28, 1953, she married Thomas Vigue, of Whitefield, where they lived and raised their family.

Avalon worked for the Price Administration (USG), Maine Department of Agriculture and the Department of Labor, where she retired from in 1987.  Avalon was a former member of Eastern Star, Whitefield Fire Dept. Auxiliary, and PTA.  She attended the Sheepscot Valley Community Church and was a member of the Maine Draft Horse & Ox Association.

She and Tom spent many winters in Florida.  Avalon enjoyed traveling and in the summertime would attend every horse pulling event at the state fairs.  She maintained notebooks of these results as well as the scores of her children and grandchildren’s ball games.  She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.   Avalon also loved playing Bingo, reading, crafts and family gatherings. She enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Avalon was predeceased by her husband Tom and son Brian Paul Vigue.

She is survived by her sons, Thomas L and his wife Linda, of Whitefield, Dean A. and his wife Jean with whom she resided, Gary M. and his partner Shirley Warren, of Whitefield, Timothy E. and his partner John Hume, of Litchfield, Jeffrey L. and his wife Bethany, of Whitefield, and her daughter Julie Ann, of Lahaina, Hawaii;  three granddaughters, Shannon Brann and her husband Jimmy, Sarah Finley and her husband Steven and Jennifer Vigue; five grandsons, Shawn, Brian, Thomas, Jeffrey Jr., and Jacob Vigue; three great-grandchildren Olivia Avalon and Cassidy Brann and Carter Vigue who kept their Armie amused; several nieces, nephews.

WADE BULLARD

WINSLOW––Wade Bullard, 57, passed away in his home on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, after a good-natured battle with terminal cancer. He will be remembered always for his laughter, his generosity, and his love of family.

Wade was an active member of his community. He enjoyed sup-porting the local theater compa-ny, ACAT Theater, as set builder, lighting technician, and fun-loving host of cast parties. He donat-ed regularly to the Winslow Snowdrifters and the

Maine Snowmobile Association. Wade brought great enthusiasm to the music boosters when his daugh-ters were in the local school sys-tem, cooking up hot dogs in the Band Shack and also serving as the organization’s president. Wade never hesitated to chaper-one his daughters school trips when asked to do so, and segued easily into supporting his grand-son William, cheering him on at sporting events and play sword-fighting on demand.

Born in Milwaukie, Wisconsin, Wade’s formative years were spent in the Waterville area, and though he graduated from Unionville High School, in Pennsylvania, he always consid-ered himself a Mainer and loved living here. Wade loved telling tall tales in an exaggerated Maine accent, and loved his work as proprietor of The Stove Barn, in Winslow. His knowledge ran deep in his chosen field and he could sit for hours chatting with customers and friends. He spent equal time with oldtimers coming in to shoot the breeze, young folks just starting out, and every-one in between. All benefited from Wade’s generous nature and his ability to create solutions for alternative hearing needs and desires.

Wade was predeceased by his mother, Beverly Jane Bullard.

Wade is survived by his wife Suzanne and two daughters, Esther Bullard and her husband Mark Bouchard and their children, William, Victoria and Dylon, and Christine O’Brian and her husband Jeremy and their daughter Ehlaina. He is also sur-vived by his father Mack Bullard and partner Elizabeth Luber; his sister Deborah Bullard and her family Mark Fry and Annie; and brother, Brett Bullard.

STEPHEN N. WAINER

FAIRFIELD – Stephen “Stiffy” N. Wainer, 98, passed away peacefully at the Togus Hospice Facility in Augusta, on Friday, June 10, 2016. He was born July 17, 1917, in Massachusetts, the son of William and Anna Wainer.

He was an avid outdoors man who loved fishing, hunting, was a past member of the NRA, gar-dening, and woodworking when he was able. He traveled and was fortunate to turn age 75 in Alaska! In his younger years, he was a veteran who proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II, until his honorable discharge.

Stephen is survived by his son, Michael Wainer and wife Barbara, of Fairfield; three grandchildren, Debra Labonte, of Waterville, Michael Wainer and wife Wendi, of Rome, Kimberly Wainer and Danyl Dixon, of Benton; seven great-grandchil-dren; two great-great-grandchil-dren; many nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Wainer; son, Stephen Wainer; three brothers; three sisters.

CAROLYN M. LANE

FAIRFIELD – Carolyn May Lne, 73, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016, at MaineGeneral Medical Center. She was born in Mexico on July 6, 1942, the daughter of the late Carroll and Evelyn (Kilbreth) Akers, and later raised by Philip and Lucienne Welch, her foster parents.

Carolyn graduated from Dixfield High School in 1961, and also accomplished an associate’s degree at the age of 60, from Kennebec Valley Community College, in Fairfield.

Carolyn worked several different jobs, such as a full-time homemaker, factory worker, and office worker, and she also worked on the family chicken farm. Carolyn was an active church member and loved to play piano and sing for the Lord.

She had a beautiful gift of sewing and talent for music and cooking. Carolyn loved family with all her heart and showed hospitality to everyone she came in contact.

Carolyn was predeceased by both parents, brother Richard Akers, sister Gloria Duval, and great-grandchildren Joshua Taylor and Braydon Norman.

RHONDA T. MORGAN

OAKLAND – Rhonda T. (Knight) Morgan, 65, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016, following a long battle with COPD. She was born at the Franklin Memorial Hospital, in Farmington, on October 16, 1950, the daughter of Howard and Helen (Wyman) Knight.
She  attended Williams High School, in Oakland, and graduated on June 12, 1969.

She was a stay-at-home mom for her three children, and also took care of her grandchildren when needed. She worked other jobs off and on through the years.

For those who knew her, she had a heart of gold and was very thoughtful and caring of others. Rhonda was always willing to give her time, money, or listening ear to whomever was in need and was accepting of everyone. She was also a spunky and fun woman, who could always make you laugh or put a smile on your face.

Rhonda was predeceased by her father and mother, Howard and Helen Knight; sister Sheila Castonguay; brother-in-law Gerald Castonguay; and niece Barbara Castonguay Marcoux.

She is survived by her three children, Brad S. Hastings, Cory G. Hastings and Briana L. Pomerleau and husband Brian; seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter, Trenton Hastings, Ryan Pomerleau, Brendon and Megan Pomerleau, Faith Pomerleau and Austin Pomerleau; great-grandchild Ayden Pomerleau.

HOWARD L. BROWN

WINSLOW – Howard L. Brown, 81, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016, at his home in Winslow. He was born May 5, 1934, in Mapleton the son of Lemuel and Mary (Crawford) Brown.Obits Howard L Brown

He was employed for 42 years in construction work for L.M. Cutchin, now known as the Sheridan Corporation and was a volunteer fireman for the towns of Mapleton and Winslow. He also participated and volunteered at RSVP walking program at Colby College since 2005.

Howard was married for 52 years to Myrtle Carter Brown, who predeceased him.

Howard is survived by his children, Lorraine O’Brien, of Wash­ing­ton state, Carol Hansen, of Mapleton, a companion, Thelma Lafferty; one brother, Richard Brown, of Deltona, Florida, and a sister, Audrey Christie, of Mapleton; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, Harold and Roger Brown; daughter, Muriel Griffin; son, Carlton Hubbard.

Mary was educated in Whitefield schools, attended Erskine Academy, in South China, and later received a GED. She worked at her aunt Margaret’s Nursing Home, in Coopers Mills.  She later became the first female buyer at Associated Grocers, in Gardiner.
