PATRICIA MacDONALD

WATERVILLE – Patricia (Harlow) MacDonald, 85, passed away Friday, April 29, 2022. She was the daughter of Phillip and Alma Harlow.

She met Richard, her husband of 62-years, while attending Springfield College, in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Patricia and Richard had three children, Rick, Barb and Doug, who were raised in Maryland and Waterville. They enjoyed living in many places such as Maryland, North Palm Beach, Florida, Dover Foxcroft and the mid-coast of Maine.

She is survived by her husband; children; and grandchildren, Caroline, Molly, Otto and Declan.

MARJORIE A. CROWELL

FAIRFIELD – Marjorie Ann Crowell, 60. also know as MAC, Auntie Mac and Hazel, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, following a long battle with cancer. She was born in Waterville on August 3, 1961, the daughter of Arthur and Velma (Cloukia) Crowell.

She was educated in the Winslow/Waterville public schools. She had a deep love for music, planting flowers and hummingbirds.

She was predeceased by her parents; siblings Carolyn Boudreau, Richard and Jody Lynn Crowell.

She is survived by her brothers Paul, David and Daniel Crowell; sisters Gail Swain, Cynthia Veilleux, Paula Homer; brothers-in-law, Wayne Boudreau, Daryl Swain, and Stephen Homer; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Burial will take place on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 1p.m., at McClintock Cemetery, Nowell Road, Winslow.

RAY O’KEEFE

NAPLES – Ray O’Keefe, 75, a longtime resident of Naples, Florida, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022. Ray was born in Fort Kent, the son of Alice and Ray O’Keefe.

He graduated from Winslow High School and later received his BA at the University of Maine, followed by a master’s degree from the University of Southern California. Ray served his country with a 26-year career in the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Ft. Riley, Kansas, and Ft. Benning, Georgia. Ray also was posted overseas in Vietnam, Korea, and Germany. Ray’s last 10 years of duty were spent in the Pentagon. His commitment to serve his country saw him hold many significant positions, Troop Com­mander, Squadron Commander and Congres­sional Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Army. Ray was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit Medal and the Bronze Star.

Ray worked hard and played golf with equal passion. He honored his fellow veterans by creating two Veterans Day Golf Tournaments to honor them at Quail Run and Royal Palm Golf Clubs.

Ray is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy; and his siblings, Pat, Michael and Bridget.

A funeral Mass was held on May 18 at St. Williams Catholic Church in Naples, Florida. There will also be a funeral Mass at St. John Church, 26 Monument St., in Winslow, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, followed by the burial at noon at the new section of the Veterans Cemetery, in Augusta.

CLAUDETTE M. BELANGER

WATERVILLE – Claudette Marie Belanger, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 9, 2022, at the Lakewood Nursing home, in Waterville. She was born on September 1, 1931, in Waterville, the 10th child of Edward Carey and Esther Hachey Carey.

Claudette was a strong women. She was also a loving soul, and a caring and giving person.

While her children were young, Claudette began her long career as a waitress, often working both the lunch and the dinner shifts, first at the Silent Woman Restaurant, and then many years at John Martin’s Manor, both in Waterville. She was well regarded as a superb server and incredible worker, and was known for her friendly and respectful attitude. She worked full time as a server until she was 68 years old.

After her retirement, she kept busy doing what she loved, helping her family. She was either baking bread to share, buying clothes at garage sales for her family, crocheting blankets for everybody, or spending time with her grandchildren. She was a positive inspiration and excellent role model for her family and was proud of herself and her accomplishments. She didn’t slow down as she aged. Her daily routine included walking three miles every morning, and then swimming for one hour every afternoon.

At the age of 78, Claudette suffered a life changing stroke that left her paralyzed on one side, blinded in one eye, and unable to read or speak the words that she wanted to say. She fought hard and recovered from her paralysis, improved her speech, and eventually returned to live alone again for several years. She still was busy making blankets, shopping, and spending time with family. Unfortunately, a series of health issues caused her to need more care in her final years.

Although Claudette had struggles during her life, she also had many good times. She loved the time that she had at the family camp when her kids were young. She was an avid swimmer, and had taught not only her kids to swim, but also many of her nieces and nephews. She loved to be in the water, and could easily swim a mile even into her later years. She loved to make bread, and then share it with family and friends. It was great bread! She loved to go dancing and hanging out with her friends after work! She liked going to the beach, and sitting in the sun! She loved family gatherings and just being with her sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews! In later years, she was very happy just to be with her grandkids. She would take them on almost daily little adventures to McDonalds, or to the pool for a swim, or just back to her place to make them a snack and hang out. She loved her family and they loved her very much!

Claudette was predeceased by her parents and all her siblings.

She is survived by her sons Richard and wife Debbie, Robert and wife Kathie, Bruce and partner Valerie, daughter Gail and husband Paul Moeller; grandchildren Kristen Crook and husband Paul, Danielle Towle and husband Max, Steve Hale, Benjamin Belanger and wife Stevi, Michael Belanger, Kaitlin Belanger, Lauren Belanger, Jaimie Belanger, Carey Young and husband Ryan, and Aaron Moeller. She is survived by Valerie’s children, Victoria, Brittany, Andrew, Henry, and William. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a special niece and friend Norma Bourgoin.

A funeral service was held for Claudette on Monday, May 23, at St. John Catholic Church, in Winslow.

RAMONA L. BOYNTON

JEFFERSON – Ramona L. Boynton, 75, of Jefferson, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022, at home. She was born January 24, 1947, in Gardiner, the daughter of Raymond and Geraldine (Taylor) Rankins Sr.

She attended Gardiner schools. Ramona enjoyed camping, watching the birds, family gatherings and knitting hats and mittens for the warming centers and for school children.

She worked at KVCAP in the transportation department for many years. Summers she drove the blueberry bus for Pearl Boynton. She was a food service worker at MSAD #11 and the Whitefield Elementary School.

She was predeceased by her father, Raymond Rankins Sr., her mother, Geraldine Cusson, in-laws, Pearl and Marie Boynton; brothers-in-law, Roger Boynton, Dennis Boynton and Warren Brann, sisters-in-law, Pauline Brann and Mary Boynton; a nephew, Dana Boynton.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Lawrence Boynton; daughters, Tamara J. Grady and partner Harold Dyer, of Pittston, Monica L. Grady and partner Steve Carter, of Waterville, Samantha S. Sullivan and partner Eric Swan, of Augusta, son, Robert E. Grady III, of Pittston; grandchildren, Ashley Dyer, Hannah Dyer, and Evan Grady, all of Pittston, Erik Botterbusch, of Farmingdale, Kassie Pratt and Amanda Pratt, both of Augusta; brothers, Raymond and Nancy Rankins Jr. and family, Michael and Valerie Rankins and family, Linwood and Bobbie Boynton and family, Robert and Deanna Boynton and family, Earland and Marion Boynton and family, Margaret Boynton and Sharon Boynton and family; and many nieces and nephews.

Per Ramona’s wishes there will be no services and burial will be at a later date.

DARRELL POOLER

OAKLAND – Darrell “Bruce” Pooler, 63, passed away of natural causes on Friday May 13, 2022, at his home. He was born October 5, 1958, the first born child of MaryAnn (Bard) and Irwin H. Pooler.

Bruce attended school in the Messalonskee school system, in Oakland.

Growing up he always had a passion for vehicles, and right out of high school took great pride in his personal vehicles, keeping them beautifully maintained and enjoyed showcasing them during an era that meeting on “Main Street” with fellow friends and relatives was a normal Friday night event. He made friends with many who had the same passion and those friendships have lasted a life time.

He was also a huge fan of car racing and in the 1980s followed the extended family tradition of racing at Unity Raceway. Bruce began his successful racing career with a car that he numbered 44 after his mothers age. He was greatly respected by his fans and fellow drivers.

Bruce worked various jobs until his parents opened Middle Road Redemption, in Oakland, where he worked side by side with mom and dad until they retired. He loved chatting with customers and made people feel like they were lifelong friends. He then brought his expertise to share with his brother and best friend Brian, at Trafton Road Redemption. They continued to work together for many years until the redemption was converted into a store, which recently closed. He was looking forward to his retirement and enjoying the simple things in life like playing the slots, eating out and spending time with family and friends.

Bruce would help anyone who needed it. He helped people from all walks of life and his kindness always turned into lasting relationhips.

He loved his home, his little sanctuary that he took pleasure and great pride in maintaining. After his dad’s death, he continued this same pride in helping his mother maintain her property next door and looked after her daily needs.

He was predeceased by his father Irwin H. Pooler; his grandparents; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.

Bruce is survived by his mother, MaryAnn Pooler, of Oakland; his daughter Angela Ward and her husband Jamie, of Cannan; and his son Derick Inman, his wife Amanda and their three children, of Waterville; his brother Brian Pooler and his wife Tami, of Oakland; his sister Sonya Ross and her husband Jim, of Norridgewock; and his sister Tammy Roy and her husband Jim, of Oakland; his nephews, Shaine Wilson, Jeremy Witham, Tyler Whitney, Cody Palmer, Dylan Allard, and niece Cheyenne Knights.

A celebration of life and a private graveside ceremony will be announced at a later date.

MARK G. GOULD

SIDNEY – Mark Glazier Gould, 68, passed peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Alfond Center for Health, in Augusta. He was born on May 17, 1953, in Augusta, to George and Lorraine “Tillie” (Glazier).

Gould is a graduate of Cony High School, in Augusta, and the University of Maine at Orono. Mark also did post-graduate work at Penn State University.

Mark was a true self-made man, always living life on his own terms. He was generous, enthusiastic, loved animals and easily made friends wherever he went. Mark owned and operated a dairy farm in Sidney for over 25 years, producing hay for his farm as well as others. Recently, he expanded his interests to auctions of all kinds and ran an auction company along with his partners. He loved a good treasure hunt and sharing his finds as a way to educate others about history. Mark often guided the young people in his life through his love of teaching. Mark gathered regularly with his neighbors and friends at the Middle Road General Store, in Sidney, to share a meal and news from around town.

Surviving family includes his brothers, David, of Jay, and Alan and his wife Elaine, of Freeport; his sister, Linda, of Redmond, Washington; nephews, Callum and Liam and niece, Catriona, of Freeport; aunts, Faith Gould, of Richmond, Arlene Gardner, of Hallowell, and Jean Glazier, of Pittston; as well as many cousins throughout Maine and beyond.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Burial will follow in Branch Mills Cemetery, China.

JULIETTE G. VEAR

WATERVILLE – Juliette Gilbert Vear, 94, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Woodlands Memory Care Center, in Waterville. She was born on March 29, 1928, in Waterville, to Emile and Aline (Mar­coux) Gilbert.

Julie graduated in 1946 from Waterville High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Norman Vear, in 1948, and raised five children. She lived in Winslow most of her life. Julie worked at Scott Paper Co., in Winslow, prior to her retirement in 1989. She was a member of the Corpus Christi Parish (formerly St. John the Baptist Church, in Winslow).

After her retirement, she and Norman spent 17 winters, in Bradenton, Florida. She had many hobbies and especially enjoyed playing cards with her many friends and family. Julie was a much-loved wife, mother of five and “graggy” to her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Julie leaves behind her husband of 74 years, Norman.

She is survived by her five children, Norma Guess (Texas), Jim Vear (Florida), Larry and wife Shelly Vear, Janet and husband Matt Bruington (Virginia), and Michael and wife Jennifer Vear; her grandchildren, Gretchen and Chris Farrar, Jessica Vear, Ericka and Charles Poppel, Chris and Aurora Vear, and Nicole and Arturo Sanchez; and great-grandchildren, Dean Beaudoin Poppell and Finnegan Jean Baptist Poppell; her brother Leo Gilbert

Julie was predeceased by her sister Lorraine Roy. and is survived by.

At her request, there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Notre Dame Church, 116 Silver Street, in Waterville, on Tuesday, June 28, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the family plot in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Grove Street, in Waterville.

JEANNINE PARE

VASSALBORO – Jeannine (Domingue) Pare, 91, has passed on Monday, May 16, 2022, following a long illness. Jeannine was born on October 31, 1930, the daughter of Evariste Domingue and Angelina Proulx.

On September 9, 1950, Jeannine married the love of her life, Alphonse Pare, and became a farmer’s wife, dedicating her life to her family and to their Vassalboro farm.

Jeannine was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister of St. Augustine Catholic Church and St. Andrew Catholic Church, in Augusta. She enjoyed being a member of St. Andrew’s Women’s Club.

Jeannine was predeceased by her husband, Alphonse Pare; parents, Evariste and Angelina Domingue; brothers, Robert Domingue and Fern Domingue, and sisters, Theresa Bedford and Lucille Smith.

Jeannine is survived by her five sons and three daughters, Albert Pare and companion Kathy Allen, of Sidney, Anita Reynolds and companion Dan Gorgone, of Windsor, Pauline Pare and wife Fauna Yarrow, of Etna, Lucille Taylor, of Waterville, Maurice Pare and wife Sarah, of Vassalboro, Joseph Pare and wife Helen, of Augusta, Roger Pare, of Vassalboro and companion Mischele Ellis, and Gerard Pare, of Waterville; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, May 23, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 75 Northern Avenue, Augusta. Burial followed in Holy Family Cemetery, 139 Townsend Road, Augusta.

SHIRLEY T. LADD

AUGUSTA – Shirley Theresa (Beane) Ladd, 88, of Waterville, passed away peacefully the evening of Monday, May 16, 2022. Appropriately, there was a flower moon that night. Shirley was born on September 27, 1933, to Charles and Della Beane.

She attended Waterville High School. She began her career working at the candy counter in McLellan’s Department Store, in Waterville, and in time, became the store’s manager. In 1968, she was named Manager of the Year for the Northeast Division.

In 1970, Shirley married the love of her life Maurice “Nick” Ladd and became an instant mother to his four children. Shirley and Nick always shared a deep and special bond, even when dementia began to incapacitate her in her later years. After their marriage, Nick and Shirley owned 3G’s Restaurant, in Skowhegan, and then in 1977, they purchased The Villager restaurant, in Waterville, which they ran until their retirement.

Shirley is survived by Nick Ladd, her husband of 52 years; and her four children and their spouses, Susan and Larry Jewett, of Leeds, Calla and Steve Roy, of Falmouth, Mark and Lee Anne Ladd, of Clifton Park, New York, and Megan Ladd, of Yarmouth; her sisters Joyce Graf, of Brunswick, and Dana Jacques, of Waterville; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews; and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Notre Dame church in Waterville on Monday, June 6, 2022, at 10 a.m.

MICHAEL M. DAWES

FAIRFIELD – Michael Morrison Dawes, 77, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022, at his home, in Fairfield, following a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born on July 1, 1944, to his parents, William Leon and Elizabeth June in Bar Harbor.

Michael was a gift from God. He enriched all our lives daily with his wise words, deep love, and corny jokes. He was always most relaxed when he was by the ocean.

He was a talented self-taught artist and an admirer of lighthouses. Family was important to Michael, and he attended any event(s) that he could to support his family. He was a salesman at heart and was proud to be self-employed for the majority of his later years.

Michael was predeceased by his parents, June (Rolla) and Leon (Marion); his sisters, Edna and Paula; his parents-in-law, Russell and Phyllis Peters; other family members.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janet; their two children, Cathe (Jon) Cochran and Bill (Jean) Dawes; five grandchildren, Jodi (Rob), Jessica (Ricky), Jordan (Ben), Corey and Logan; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; his sisters, Marilyee, Spring (Mark), Lauralee and Joyce (Paul); his siblings by marriage, Patti (Dennis), Rusty (Candi), Ruth (Andy) and Paul; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, 2539 Riverside Dr, Vassalboro. Remembrance will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. A gathering to celebrate and share stories of Michael to immediately follow at his home.

OAKLAND – Linda L. Libby, 79, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Maine­General Medical Center, in Augusta. Linda was born in Oakland, at home, on April 19, 1943. She was daughter of the late Linwood and Clara (Moody) Grant.

She attended school, in Oakland, at Williams High School.

Linda married the love of her life, Clair Libby, in 1961. They shared many years together until his passing in 2004.

She was a cake decorator who made many wedding cakes and birthday cakes for family and friends.

Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Dwight Grant, her sisters Kathy Scott and Kim Hall.

Linda is survived by her three children, Lisa, Tina, and Brett Libby and his wife, Heather; her grandchildren Tara, Zack, Taylor, Shelby, Dakota, and Caleb; her great-grandchildren Riley, Brayden, Wyatt, Everett, and Bryce; her sister, Marlene Mann; and and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held on Monday, May 9, at Lewis Cemetery, in Oakland.

LINDA B. BAILEY

WINSLOW – Linda B. Bailey, 81, (born Olcott), of Winslow, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022. She was born on December 30, 1940, in Plainfield, New Jersey, and lived a long, fruitful, fun, and fulfilling life right up to the end. She passed peacefully in bed – her body no longer able to continue on with what her mind wanted her to do.

“Lin” was a loving wife to her husband, Blaine, whom she adored. She was also the most loving and caring mother to her two boys. She was a consummate entrepreneur, a decorator, a matchmaker, an artist, an animal lover, and a cancer survivor. Smart as a whip, sometimes sly, always witty, and willing to laugh at every opportunity.

Lin lived life to the fullest, always busy doing something. She enjoyed the simple ‘everyday’ with her husband, dogs, and horses. But her mind never stopped looking for a way to turn her latest interest or hobby into a business. An adventurist at heart – as an example, she had no problem taking the helm of the 32-foot sailboat that she and Blaine sailed all over the Coast of Maine. Just try to keep up with her, we would say.

She met challenges in life head-on and determined to come out on top, and more often than not she did – raising two boys mostly as a single mother. Later in life she beat cancer – twice. She was one tough cookie, not that you would see that side of her in conversation. Outwardly she was a true lady and approached every situation with thoughtful sensitivity and a smile on her face.

Lin was an animal lover and always had at least one K9 companion, and often many that she shared her home with. She and Blaine also enjoyed their many horses at their Whoabegone Farm, in Benton.

Among her many business ventures – Décor Custom Decorating, The Matchmaker computer dating service (long before anyone else came up with that idea), Bailey’s Business Services (with her husband, Blaine), and L&B Art Effects.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Blaine Bailey, of Winslow; two sons, Greg (Laurie) Roberts, of Baxter, Tennessee, and Jeff (Becca) Roberts, of Biddeford; her sister, Sandy Terp, of Alburtis, Pennsylvania; and one grandchild, Jordan Roberts, of Biddeford.

DOLORES C. CRYAN

WATERVILLE – Dolores C. (Quirion) Cryan, 83, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022, following a brief illness. She was born on December 12, 1938, the daughter of Albert and Leda (Talbot) Quirion.

She was educated in Winslow Public Schools and Mount Merici Academy, in Waterville, and spent her life in Winslow, North Vassalboro, and on Lake Moxie, in The Forks Plantation. She was a member of St. John the Baptist church, in Winslow. Dolores was also a member of snowmobile and ATV clubs in the Lake Moxie area.

Dolores married Robert F. Cryan Sr., on September 7, 1964, and they shared more than 57 years. Dolores worked at Thayer Hospital, in Waterville, and area woolen mills. She retired from Oak Grove Nursing Home, in Waterville, at the age of 62.

Dolores spent as much time as she could with her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends at her cottage on Lake Moxie where she was the happiest. She enjoyed boating, fishing, snowmobiling, ATVing, and playing cards. She also enjoyed traveling, dining out, and the “occasional” nap.

Delores adored her grandchildren, loved doting on them and never missed an opportunity to tell them how she loved them to the moon and back. She was the centerpiece of the family where her love and generosity knew no limits.

She is survived by her two children, Robert F. Cryan, Jr. and his wife, Brianna, and their two children Nicholas R. and Eliana M. Cryan, of Oviedo, Florida; and daughter, Kimberly A. (Cryan) Vicnaire and her husband Brent, and their two sons, Cameron P. and Brady R. Vicnaire, of Waterville; her brother, Roger Quirion and wife Debbie; sisters-in-law Lorraine Quirion and Doris Quirion, all of Winslow; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Dolores was predeceased by her husband Robert; by her parents Albert and Leda (Talbot) Quirion; by three sisters, Lorraine Morey and her husband Ted Morey, Gloria Quirion, and Pauline Carrier and husband Robert Carrier, and three brothers, Ronald Quirion, Raymond Quirion and wife Enid Quirion, and Robert Quirion.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Veterans Cemetery, in Augusta, at which time Dolores will be laid to rest with her husband, Robert.

VASSALBORO – Nelson “Butch” Kiss, 82, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 30, 2022, at home. Nelson was born and raised in Meriden, Connecticut.

He attended Wilcox Technical School, graduating in 1958, where he excelled at auto mechanics. He was employed at his family’s lamp manufacturing company, Kiss Lamp Company, and Harte Chevrolet, in Meriden, Connecticut, before moving to Vassalboro in 1976 and starting his own business, Kiss Kar Kare, which he ran for 35 years. He specialized in building custom hot rods including his 1940 Chevy Coupe. In his early years, he was an award-winning drag racer, and raced all over New England, New York, and New Jersey.

Nelson was industrious and skilled at many things. In building his own home, he custom crafted the interior with great detail and did much of the electrical and plumbing; by all accounts, it is a beautiful home. He also built custom furniture including an elaborate grandfather clock.

He was actively involved in youth baseball, coached for many years, and started the junior high school baseball program in Vassalboro. He coached many winning seasons.

Nelson was an outdoor and nature enthusiast; he enjoyed birdwatching, hiking, and boating. He spent lots of time in Greenville and Bar Harbor, staying at bed and breakfasts and enjoying fine dining.

Holidays and spending time with family was especially important to him. Christmas was his favorite time of the year, and he enjoyed decorating and buying gifts for family as well as less fortunate children in the area.

Nelson was predeceased by his parents, Aaron and Alice (Baton) Kiss; his sisters Peggy Gervascio, Lucille O’Brien, two brothers, Donald Kiss and Francis Brown.

Nelson is survived by his wife of 54 years, Charlene (Stanley) Kiss; their sons Curtis and Dana; daughter-in-law, Molly; grandchildren Kamryn, Lauren, and Aaron; several nieces, and nephews.

Nelson was deeply passionate about animals, especially his cats, many of which he rescued.

At his request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral. A celebration of life will be held in private.

MARIE B. McMAHON

WATERVILLE – Marie Baker Foster McMahon, 87, of Waterville, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Mount St. Joseph’s rehab facility, in Waterville. She was born, March 27, 1935, in Norridgewock to Beatrice and Floyd Baker.

She graduated from Skowhegan High School. She and her first husband, Mathew Foster, lived in Bingham with their four children, Mona, Dougie, Bea and Suzie. Marie modeled love of family and home, hard work, service to others and persevering through challenging times. As a single, working mother of four, she somehow created time to sew her girls’ school, Easter and other outfits. Then taught them how to sew as they got older.

She supported her family in different ways, yet most loved the two decades of connecting to patients as a dental assistant in Waterville. In 1977 she married her second husband, Richard J. McMahon who passed in 1987. Besides being a wonderful mother, she enjoyed honoring veterans and serving local veterans’ organizations, The Winslow VFW, The Elks Auxiliary, and she served as president of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She especially loved the poppies and sharing them to raise awareness and donations. She also enjoyed being a Togus hospital and Meals on Wheels volunteer.

Favorite family memories include decades of family card games of canasta, of which is still played with children and grandchildren. Much fun was enjoyed when she would yodel or dance. At Suzette and Bill’s wedding, eight years ago, she was dancing a lot and having so much fun. Attendees commented. “I hope I can dance like that at her age.” Then one younger person corrected herself and said, “Heck, I wish I could dance like that now!” We still smile knowing she danced as recently as November and now, we trust she’s still having fun and dancing in Spirit!

She wanted to celebrate her 80th birthday in a special way and did the Polar Dip at Messalonskee Lake for the Boys and Girls Club. She only let her children know at the last minute, not wanting anyone to try to talk her out of it. One of her granddaughters loves the memory of Gram doing a split well into her 60s!

Simple things brought her pleasure, feeding and watching the birds, tending to her flower gardens, and making and sharing her delicious tourtiere pie, now of which her family carries on the tradition.

Marie was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Dick McMahon; brother, Harold Baker, sister, Roberta Wise; and stepson, Eddie McMahon.

She is survived by her four children, Ramona Freeman, of Waterville, Doug (Sandy) Foster and Beatrice (Bob) Blake, all of Oakland, and Suzette Foster (Bill Mosher,), of North Carolina; stepchildren Michael (Renata) McMahon, of Sidney, Patricia McMahon, of Waterville, and Rick (Kim) McMahon, of Sidney; grandchildren Theresa Blake, of Oakland, Brianna Anicetti of North Carolina, Brittany Anicetti Viuf, of Oklahoma, Gabrielle Foster, of Portland, Mathew Foster, of Oakland; and two great-granddaughters, Joslyn Ireland and Harper Viuf; siblings Bette (Rance) Hadaway, of South Carolina, Doug (Phyll) Baker, of California, Karen (Ron) Gareau, of Rhode Island, Bill (Karen) Baker, of Massachusetts; her Baker half-siblings; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday, July 15, at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville, ME 04901. Burial will be held Saturday, July 16, at 10 a.m., at the Old Oak Cemetery, River Road, Norridgewock, ME 04957.

BARBARA E. HORNER

VASSALBORO – Barbara E. Horner, 95, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. She was born December 26, 1926, in Camden, the daughter of Alfred B. Nedeau and Teresa (Shaw) Nedeau.

Barbara grew up mostly in Norridgewock, but also in several other New England towns before graduating from Northfield High School, in Vermont, in 1944. Barbara married James “Jim” Horner, her husband of 70 years, in 1948, in Concord, New Hampshire.

She was a devoted mother while they lived in Hudson, Ohio, Leawood, Kansas, Hinckley and Waterville, Maine, and Durham, North Carolina, before retiring back to Maine in Vassalboro in 1989.

She began her own career only after her children finished their grade school years, working in the Rare Book Collection, at the Colby College Library (1969-1975), then at the Duke University International House, in Durham, North Carolina (1975-1989). She had a knack for remembering names and milestones and knew every international student who attended Duke during those years, including the correct pronunciation and spelling of their names. She welcomed each and every one and made them feel at home.

Barbara was a member of the Waterville Women’s Club and enjoyed volunteering at the old Thayer Hospital, in Waterville, Vassalboro Food Pantry, Volmer’s Nursing Home, in Vassalboro, and attending the Vassalboro United Methodist Church.

Barbara was a kind and caring soul who enjoyed being among family and friends, traveling, watching birds and wildlife, knitting, conquering crossword puzzles, and taking walks in nature. She loved to send letters and cards and never forgot a birthday. She was still receiving Christmas cards from some of her international friends from Greece, Sweden, and Japan.

She was predeceased by her husband Jim, her sister Margaret Keene, of Norridgewock, and brother Al Nedeau Jr., of California.

She is survived by son Stewart and his wife Cindy, of Waterville; daughter Peggy and her husband Ted May, of Columbia, Missouri; granddaughter Heather Provost and her husband Lucas, of Albion; grandson Travis Horner and fiancé Josh Rideout, of Gray; and great-grandchildren Madalyn, Ryder, and Miles Provost.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2022, at the Vassalboro United Methodist Church, 614 Main Street, Vassalboro, Maine 04989.

CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. – Rebecca Clifford, 92, of Champlain, New York, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022. Rebecca was born in Fairfield, March 9, 1930, the late daughter of Mable (Crockett) Lawrence and Earl Lawrence Sr.

On January 29, 1949, Rebecca married the love of her life, Ralph Clifford, together they had four beautiful children.

Rebecca loved life, visiting her family and friends singing country music and her favorite gospels at church with her sister, Ruth and brother “Billy” William, and caring for whomever needed her help. She loved to stay busy. With all of this being said she also had another great love, and that was cooking. She was great at it, just ask anyone for whom she ever cooked or baked. Because of that it led her to own her own restaurant with one of her life long friends, Ann Maglaris. They met at Bill’s truck stop and went on to own the notorious Eating House, in Fairfield. There she worked alongside her two daughters, Joyce and Janet, sisters Iva and Alma.

When you entered the diner it felt like home filled with laughter, family and friends, some new, some old but it was always full you never left hungry or disappointed, that was for sure.

Rebecca was predeceased by her husband Ralph Clifford; her two daughters Joyce Frye and Janet Hunter; a granddaughter, Brandy Ratcliff; five sisters, Iva Carter, Alma Mower, Priscilla Wing, Olive Chapman, and Ruth Buker, four brothers, Norman Lawrence, Floyd Lawrence, Colby Lawrence, and Melvin Lawrence.

Rebecca is survived by her son, Steven Earl Clifford, and daughter-in-law, Michelle Clifford, her son, Russell Clifford and his partner Maxine Buker; her grandchildren Stacey Boudreau, Matthew Clifford, Kasey Carpenter, Brian Clifford and Benjamin Clifford. her brother, William “Billy” Lawrence and sister-in-law, Elaine Lawrence, brother, Earl “Butchy” Lawrence and her best friend and sister-in-law, Carol Lawrence.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 21, in Fairfield, at 11 a.m. The family invites family and friends to join them at Governor’s Restaurant,Main St., in Waterville, in the Ball Room Hall, at 1 p.m., after the service.

ROGER CLIFFORD

BENTON – Roger “Babe” Clifford, 95, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022. Roger was born on November 17, 1926, in Benton to Harold and Marguerite (Stinchfield) Clifford.

He graduated from Lawrence High School, inFairfield, in 1945. On June 5, 1952, he married Gloria Hunter at the First Baptist Church, in Fairfield. She was the daughter of Walter and Maud “Cain” Hunter of Benton.

Roger worked at Keyes Fibre Co. in Shawmut, for six months and then went to work for Reginald Gray Farm, in Clinton, for four years. In October of 1950, he started work as a head herdsman at the Maine Breeding Corp., in Vassalboro, for 16 years, when they consolidated with Eastern A.L Corp, of Ithaca, New York.

In 1966 Roger started to work as an artificial inseminator for Eastern A.L. Corp., in the Waterville unit. He retired November 1988 after 22 years of service.

Roger belonged to the Vassalboro Lions Club, Riverside Volunteer Fire Dept., Clinton Lions Club, Clinton Historical Society, Clinton Cemetery Committee, and a member of the Clinton Senior Citizens.

Roger was a man of many interests including gardening, hunting, trapping, raising bees for honey, snowmobiling and doing odd jobs for people. He owned two John Deere tractors, a Model B 1941 and a Model A 1950. In the early days they were used for haying.

Later he loved giving his grandsons and other children tractor rides on the “putt-putts”. He also raised young stock to sell for his children’s education.

Roger will be missed by his daughter, Ann Shores and her husband George, and their son Keven and wife April, of Benton; his son, Peter Clifford and wife Cathleen, and their sons Philip and wife Chelsea and Jacob, all of Benton; his great-grandchildren Ashley, Maxwell and Norah; his brother Allen and his wife Goldie, of Canaan; sister-in-law Patricia Hunter, of Skowhegan; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Roger was predeceased by his wife, Gloria, who passed away in May 1988, following 36 years of marriage; his five siblings, Harolyn “Stub” Clifford, Marion Liberty, George” Dee Dee” Clifford, John Clifford and Ellen Holt; and his in-laws, Keith and Lizzie Hunter, Harvey and Ophelia Hunter, Guy and Phyllis Hunter, and Dana Hunter.

WINSLOW – Patricia “Pat” Dutil Fernald, 82, passed away at MaineGeneral Medical Center on Thursday, April 14, 2022, following a period of declining health. She was born at home, in Winslow, on July 5, 1939, the daughter of Albert and Henrietta Chasse Dutil.

Pat was educated in Winslow schools and was a lifelong resident of Winslow. On September 7, 1957, Pat married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Hartley “Buzz” Fernald. They were married at St. John the Baptist Church, in Winslow, and were married for 64 years. Together, they raised three children.

She was a devoted wife and mother. While raising her family, she volunteered in her children’s activities and sports. She was a Brownie leader and Little League volunteer. She also served as president of the Winslow Band Boosters Club, the Winslow Baseball Boosters Club, and the Winslow Basketball Boosters Club. Pat was a volunteer for the annual Winslow Fourth of July celebration. She was a lifelong communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, served as a Eucharistic Minister and Church Council member. She also taught CCD classes.

After raising her family, Pat worked for several years in the Post Office Annex located at the 107 Store, in Winslow. Pat was a phenomenal cook and baker. She loved every holiday, especially Christmas. She received great joy watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren experience the magic of Christmas.

Pat was skilled at knitting and crocheting. She was an avid reader and shared her love of reading with her daughters. She was a die-hard Red Sox and Patriots fan.

Pat enjoyed traveling with her husband, children, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Vicki Ann Falconer; her sister, Theresa Dutil; brothers, Louis “Pete” Dutil; Joseph “Bob” Dutil; Daniel “Chi-Chi” Dutil; sister-in-law Evelyn Dutil; nephew Kevin Dutil.

Pat is survived by her husband, Hartley “Buzz” Fernald; her daughter Terry Lynn Ladd and son-in-law Donald Ladd; son Peter Fernald and daughter-in-law Karen Fernald; son-in-law Eric Falconer; grandchildren Matthew, Erin and Kaitlyn Falconer; Tyler Ladd and his wife Krystle “Kae” Ladd, and Trevor and Taylor Fernald; great-grandchildren Amaya, Marcella, Darren and Kamrin; brother Albert “John” Dutil and his wife Lorraine Dutil; sisters-in-law Claire Dutil and Therese Dutil; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Pat’s request, there will be no visiting hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m., on Saturday, April 30, at St. John the Baptist Church, 26 Monument Street, Winslow, Maine 04901.

THERESA A. RENY

NORTH VASSALBORO – Theresa A. (LaPierre) Reny, 70, of North Vassalboro, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2022, following her short but strong battle with cancer. She was born in Waterville on March 10, 1952, the youngest daughter of Leodore and Doris LaPierre.

Theresa graduated from Waterville High School in 1970. She worked at Reny’s Market, on North Street, where she met her husband, Patrick, and then worked at First National Grocery Store, in Waterville.

She became a full time teller, which she did for the majority of her life. She started out at People’s Heritage Bank, went to St. Francis de Sales Federal Credit Union (Greater Waterville Area Federal Credit Union), both in Waterville, and ended at KV Federal Credit Union (Health First Federal Credit Union).

In between her full time job as a teller, she also worked part time at Rich’s Department Store, McDonald’s, and Marden’s, all in Waterville. She was a hard worker and loved to be busy. She realized she wasn’t quite ready for retirement and worked part time at Walgreen’s, in Winslow.

She never missed a thing of her two grandchildren from school functions to extracurricular activities. She sat on more soccer fields, football fields, basketball courts, softball fields, and baseball fields then almost anyone. You could see her smiling and hear her cheering as she watched them play. She was an avid game show watcher and there wasn’t a game show that she didn’t enjoy. She loved her scratch tickets and enjoyed getting some each weekend to pass the time.

Theresa was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Patrick Reny, her parents, Doris and Leodore LaPierre, brothers Ronald LaPierre, Louis LaPierre, and Francis LaPierre, and sisters Doreen Crain and Marie LaPierre.

Theresa is survived by her daughter Crystal and her husband Robie as well as their two children, her only two grandchildren, Harly and Tucker, all of Winslow; her sister Gloria Blanchet, of Waterville, nephew Scott LaPierre, of Albion, and many, many other family members and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, in Waterville, Maine. A private family burial followed at St. Francis Cemetery, in Waterville, Maine.

JAMES A. SMITH

WATERVILLE – James Allan Smith “AKA: Big Jim”, 87, passed away at his home on Friday, April 15, 2022. Jim was born in Bangor on December 30, 1934, the son of Oscar and Pauline (Stewart) Smith.

He attended schools in Waterville and graduated from Oak Grove-Coburn, in Vassalboro, and attended Colby College. in Waterville.

Jim proudly served in the U.S. Air Force in Korea. He was a finance specialist and he received three medals during his service: Good Conduct, Overseas Service and Expert Sharpshooter. After his time in the Air Force, he worked as a salesman for his family business, Eastern Packing, which was later sold to Jordan’s Meats. He also worked for Ladd Paper Company and Jerry’s Furniture.

In the early 1970s he bought the EZ Stop convenience store. In the mid 1970s, he opened Jim’s Gun Shop, and later he turned the operations over to his son, Jimmy, but remained active in the business for more than 40 years. He was proud of the fact that he was the largest gun dealer in New England with over 2,500 guns.

As a young man he always enjoyed playing pool at the D & A Billiards Lounge, in Waterville, and went on to become Maine State Pool Champion in 1968. He was instrumental in getting TJ’s Billiards established. Jim loved playing pool but it became difficult at his age so he became a spectator. He left doing what he enjoyed the most, watching the guys play pool.

Jim was an active member in the Elks, the Masons, the Shriners and also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). His interests also included collecting antique cars and playing billiards. He liked pawning, and he loved sports.

Jim was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, and stepfather. Jim enjoyed the simple routines in his life. Whether it was going to Bee’s Diner for breakfast, checking out Marden’s and Lakeview Lumber. Going to breakfast with his wife on Sundays with their friends, while still making time for his family.

He and his wife, George Ann enjoyed wintering in Oldsmar, Florida, for 24 years. They also enjoyed visiting flea markets whenever possible. Jim found singing to be enjoyable and George Ann loved to listen to him sing.

Jim was predeceased by his parents and his daughter, Julie A. Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, George Ann Smith; son, James G. Smith and fiancée Kathy Cunningham, of Vassalboro; daughter, Joanna L. Bearce and husband Jeffrey, of Belgrade; stepdaughter, Susan Brown and her partner Chris Chesley, of Benton; step-daughter Janet Quirion and her husband, Carl Winslow; his grandchildren include Justin Bearce and partner Tabitha Doak, of Waterville; Jayson Bearce and wife Juli, of Navarre, Florida; Amanda Turner and husband Randy, of Unity; Erin Estes and husband Steve, of Hermon; Danielle Quirion and her partner Nicolas Delli Paoli, of Gardiner; and Monique Quirion and her partner Fenton Cummings, of Saco; four great-grandchildren, a niece, Alexandra Pierce, of Stratford, Connecticut, and children.

PETER A. ROBINSON

WATERVILLE – Peter A. Robinson, 66, died on Friday, April 15, 2022. He was born February 8, 1956, in Fairfield, to Eugene Robinson Sr. and Nancy (Foster) Hanson.

Peter was a graduate of Lawrence High School, in Fairfield. He was a great football player, and also participated in track. When he finished high school, Peter went into the U.S. Marines.

From there, Peter started his own construction company. For a few years he worked construction in Florida. He was also a big race car fan and had also done some racing himself. He enjoyed watching racing and the New England Patriots. He loved to go out to eat, ride around the countryside, just being out and about.

He retired when he was 62 and moved to Florida, but decided being home with family was greater than the nice weather.

Peter married his wife Rhonda on May 17, 2018.

Peter looked forward to the Fiddlers Convention every year. In his younger days he always got on the roof and mooned everyone. If you knew Peter, you will all laugh about this.

Peter was predeceased by his mother, Nancy Hanson and stepfather, Daniel Hanson and stepmother, Beverly Robinson.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Robinson; his father, Eugene Robinson Sr.; his son, Alex Green and wife Macy; his brothers Eugene and wife Roxanne Robinson, Timothy Robinson, William and wife Cathy Robinson, Richard and wife Hope Robinson; stepdaughter, Danylle Kelley and partner Erika Veilleux; grandchildren Carolina, Daxton, Dawson; step-grandchildren Quenten and Olyvia Kelley; and mother-in-law, Nancy Daniels.

There will be a celebration of life on May 7, at Fairfield VFW, on Main St., at 2 p.m.

LORIE J. SPROUL

WEEKS MILLS – Lorie J. Sproul, 62, of Weeks Mills, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022, at the Alfond Center for Health, in Augusta. She was born December 14, 1959, the daughter of Norman and Marguerite (Morang) Grant.

Lorie was an avid reader and loved to cook. She also enjoyed day long trips to any location in Maine, especially to Ocean Point. She worked nearly 20 years as a payment processor at Key Bank, in Augusta. After that, she worked for McKesson, in Lewiston. She also worked at MBNA, in Belfast, until they closed. Her last job was at Athena Health, in Belfast.

She married Blaine Sproul on June 29, 1991.

She was pre-deceased by her parents. Lorie is survived by her husband Blaine; and her sister Julie Grant, of Pittston.

There will be a private graveside service held at a later date.

JOAN L. FORTIN

WINSLOW – Joan Little Fortin, 89, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, at Lakewood Nursing Home, in Waterville, following a difficult journey with dementia. Joan was born in Farmington, Connecticut, January 6, 1933. Her parents were John (Bill) and Doris (Field) Little.

She moved to Maine at a young age and lived in Winslow most of her life. In grade school, she met her future husband – Robert Fortin. They attended Winslow High School together and graduated in 1951. They married in January 1952 and recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Together they raised four children. Family was of utmost importance to mom.

Joan adored her children and their spouses: Cynthia and Michael Soule, of Corning, New York; Karen Sidelinger and Michael Thibideau, of Fairfield; Robert and Donna Fortin, of China; and Janet and Brian Ellis, of Winslow. She was blessed to have 11 great-grandchildren: Bella, Lauren, Drew, Macie, Sadie, Ava, Ella, Aubrie, Robbie, Cole, and Rowan. We cannot forget little Leo and soon to be born Avery Rose.

Probably the best memories were times spent together at camp on Webber Pond with all the people she loved so much. So much fun swimming, fishing, eating, and laughing.

LUCILLE V. AUDET

WATERVILLE – Lucille Violette Audet, 93, peacefully passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022, following a period of ill health. She was born in Belmont, Massachusetts, on December 17, 1928, to Louis and Eva Violette, the fourth of six children.

She was raised in Fairfield, and was a proud graduate of Lawrence High School. After graduation she attended hair dressing school in Augusta. She worked as a hair stylist in her home beauty shop until her retirement.

On Sept. 6, 1948, she married the love of her life, Paul A. Audet. They built their home on Military Avenue, in Fairfield, where they raised their family and remained for 61 years. She was very proud of the home they built together and enjoyed tending her flower and vegetable gardens.

Her favorite place in the world was the cherished camp at China Lake her father built. She spent every summer of her life going to camp in some capacity and passed the love of camp on to her children and grandchildren.

She was a communicant of the former Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, in Fairfield, and Sacred Heart Church, now part of Corpus Christi Parish, in Waterville. She faithfully volunteered for several organizations, including Sacred Heart soup kitchen and Ken-A-Set during her retirement. One of her great joys was as executive secretary of the annual Lawrence High School Alumni banquet that she helped coordinate for many years. She was passionate in this endeavor and worked tirelessly to ensure it was always a success. In recognition of her efforts, she was the proud recipient of the Lawrence Alumni Bulldog Award in 1988.

Knitting was a hobby she enjoyed throughout her life and was a skill for which she had a great talent. She continued knitting despite age and arthritis and enjoyed knitting lessons at the Yardgood’s Center, in Waterville, into her 90s. Her family treasures the handmade afghans, mittens, hats and intricate sweaters she crafted.

Survivors include her children, Rebecca Comeau (Paul), of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Surry, Eve Foley (Joe), of Vassalboro, Andrew Audet, of Benton, Sarah DeWitt (John), of Sidney, and Thomas Audet (Heather), of Brewer; a sister, Rosemarie Hagerty; and sister-in-law Theresa Violette; 14 grandchildren, Tracey Rich (Joe), Scott Comeau, Matthew (Jen), Amanda (Derek), and Micah Meader, Melissa, Brian (Sydnee), and Benjamin (Felecia) Audet, Alexander (Sarah), Spencer (Ceilya), and Adam DeWitt, Elijah, Elisabeth, and Noah Audet; great-grandchildren Tan Nguyen, Rebecca Rich, Seamus and Julianna Meader, Abigail and Cameron Stewart, and Laynee Audet.

She was predeceased by her husband Paul, parents, paternal aunts, Rose Brillant, Blanche Marcia and Yvonne Poulin, her siblings, Louis Violette, Robert Violette, Lorraine McAleer, and James Violette, and a granddaughter Susan Comeau-Nguyen.

At her request, there will be no visiting hours.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 26, at 10 a.m., at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Silver Street, Waterville with a reception to follow.

WINSLOW – Pauline T. Carrier, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, following a brief illness. She was born on November 26, 1934, in Winslow, the daughter of Albert and Leda (Talbot) Quirion.

She attended Winslow schools and was employed the vast majority of her life by the C. F. Hathaway Shirt Company, in Waterville, retiring in 1997.

She married Robert L. Carrier on May 5, 1956. They spent 63 years together until his death in 2019.

She was fortunate enough to know each of her five great-grandchildren well and that filled her with great adoration. She loved life and found great joy in feeding the wild and domestic animals in her backyard daily. She believed living in the moment.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; by her parents, Albert and Leda; by her sister, Lorraine Morey and her husband, Ted Morey; by her brothers, Joseph B. R. (Ronald) Quirion, Robert Quirion, Raymond Quirion and his wife, Enid Quirion; by her sister, Gloria Quirion; by her brothers-in-law, Robert Cryan, Eddie Carrier and his wife, Virginia (Jane) Carrier.

Pauline is survived by her son, Bruce Carrier and his wife, Rachael Carrier, of Winslow; by her grandson, Tristan Carrier and his wife, Megan Carrier and their children, Maxwell and Oliver of Hollis, New Hampshire, Colby Carrier and his wife, Danielle Carrier and their children, Parker and Everly, of Chevy Chase, Maryland; her granddaughter, Chelsea McCarthy and her husband, James McCarthy and their daughter, Elle, of Newburyport, Massachusetts; her sister, Delores Cryan; her brother, Roger Quirion and his wife, Debbie Quirion; her sisters-in-law, Lorraine Quirion and Doris Quirion; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

KEVIN L. McLAIN

FAIRFIELD – Kevin Linwood McLain, 51, died unexpectedly Thursday, April 21, 2022, from a heart attack. He was born June 2, 1970, in Waterville, the son of Clar­ence and Alli­son McLain.

He attended Fairfield schools and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1989.

Kevin was self-taught in everything; a jack of all trades (except maybe electrical). At the young age of 14, his mother helped him get a worker’s permit because the bike shop that he was spending time at figured they should put him on payroll for all of the work that he was doing. Kevin always worked. He was an employee of Hammond Lumber Company for a total of 20 years, with employment in between his time at Hammond, working for Madison Mattress and Furniture for eight years, a business that was owned by his in-laws.

Kevin met the love of his life, Kimberly Peters, in August 2000, at Unity Raceway, where he tried to get her attention … she ignored him. A few days later, at Skowhegan State Fair, Kevin’s first-born son, Kyle, ran into Kim as he was coming off the merry-go-round. Persistent, Kevin called Kim the next day for a date. He proposed to her during Bike Week 2002. Kevin and Kim were married on May 31, 2003. This next month, they would have celebrated 19 years of marriage.

Kevin’s interests were many: he enjoyed riding his Harley, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, boating, camping, NASCAR, however, most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He coached Kyle’s hockey team and most recently coached his younger son, Keenan, in basketball and baseball.

He spent many “wild times” at hunting camp each November with Steve, Dickey, Dan, Michelle, Lindsay, Dustin, and more recently with Keenan. He loved “Black Friday” shopping with Kim and Keenan, leaving their home at 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving and finding deals all over Southern and Central Maine, arriving back home the following night around 6 p.m.

Another favorite of Kevin’s was decorating the exterior of their home and yard for Christmas. And during the warmer seasons, he would spend a lot of time at their pool or camping at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway Speedway, in Loudon, New Hampshire, and at Fryeburg Fair, in October. He loved family gatherings and BBQs. He also was a collector of automobile memorabilia and antiques.

Although gardening was not his activity, he always made sure that Kim’s garden was tilled and the heated greenhouse was ready to go in the spring. And for those who knew Kevin, he was “Mr. Fix-it,” especially in anything automotive. He was always lending a helping hand; he would do anything and was very meticulous including his carpentry projects; more recently building a “corral” inside their home to handle his Black Lab, Tag, and her seven pups.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Kimberly; and son, Keenan, of Fairfield; son Kyle, of Colfax, Wisconsin; his parents Clarence and Allison McLain, of Waterville; his in-laws, Ken and Brenda Peters, of North Anson; his sister-in-law and her husband, Michelle and Andy Deuble; nieces Natalynn and Rylie, all of North Anson..

Kevin was a member of the Waterville Elks Lodge #905, where there will be a celebration of his life on Thursday, April 28, from 1 to 4 p.m., located at 76 Industrial St.

NANCY C. FARRINGTON

AUGUSTA – Nancy Cyr Farrington, 57, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2022, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta. Nancy was born in Biddeford at Webber Hospital June 14, 1964.

She graduated from Mt. Blue High School, in Farmington, in 1982 and in 1995 cum laude with a BS in business administration from the University of Southern Maine, in Gorham. She received a MBA in technology management May 31, 2002, at University of Phoenix.

She was the first to implement an internship with MCI through USM, leading to a successful career in sales with over 17 years in technology to improve efficiencies, and reduce costs for Office Max, MaineGeneral Medical Center, CompuPay, SymQuest, and others.

Nancy was known for her athleticism and love of the outdoors. She was a high school basketball superstar. She never lost her passion for the game. She loved hiking, swimming, and gardening. She loved the beaches. Her friends and family have fond memories at ocean sites around Maine including: Old Orchard, Owl’s Head, Popham, Scarborough, and in Florida. She went to lake beaches in Maine, notably Tassel Top and Sebago. Her hobby was watching cardinals and hummingbirds outside her front widow.

Nancy believed in Jesus and read her Bible daily, growing her faith was her source of strength for eight years battling cancer. She was a member of Fayette Baptist Church.

She was predeceased by her nephews, Joshua and Jaxon.

She is survived by her parents, Ronnie and Faye Cyr; daughter Faith Emery; husband Norman; two brothers Jim and Al and sisters-in-law, Kristin and Sandy; nieces/nephews Johnny, Kallie and Devin; stepchildren, Nicholas and Keirra; grandchildren, Caylie, Corbin, Caroline, Camile, Ava and Isabel; sisters-in-law, Joan Mills and Rosalind Farrington; nieces/nephews, Violet and Ayla.

The ceremony is being held on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Fayette Baptist Church. There will be a 10 a.m. service with Pastor Russ Cotnoir. The burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the VA cemetery. ALBERT J. DUGUAY

FAIRFIELD – Albert Joseph Duguay, 96, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022. He was the third child, born of 13, to John Baptist and Anne (Joseph) Duguay, on February 28, 1926.

Leaving high school to serve his country, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in World War II. Upon an honorable discharge he came home and married Antoinette Turmelle on October 28, 1950. Together they had six children.

Al was a communicate of Corpus Christi Parish, in Waterville, Immaculate Heart of Mary, in Fairfield, and St. John the Baptist, in Winslow. Church. Al was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus #11303, Bourque-Lanigan American Legion Post #5, in Waterville, Blessed Sacrament Board of Trustee, etc.

He went back to earn his high school diploma at the age of 66 and continued on to take college classes at the University of Maine Augusta. He stressed education to all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was employed by the union in construction for many years and retired from the United States Postal Service in 1984.

Al had many “self-taught skills”; carpenter, plumber, electrician, car mechanic, painter, roofer, chauffeur, gardener, cook, guitar player, and writer. He rebuilt a homestead wall by wall and with continual upkeep, for over 70 years, maintained its beauty. He had many projects always going, so when he couldn’t find the right tool or nail he’d head down to the basement because he knew he had all of these items somewhere… In a box!

Since the lottery began he would buy his Mega-Million and Power ball tickets, no frills, faithfully. He said if he ever won, he would make sure any child’s college education would be paid for. As being one of the oldest sons, he made sure part of his service check went to his mother, to help with all his siblings. He loved to jump in his car, pick up blueberry and cream filled donuts from Hillman’s Bakery, in Fairfield, and make his rounds seeing his favorite people in town to share a donut and a story.

He loved all God’s creatures, building hotels and gardens for the birds in his backyard. He would whistle many bird calls swinging on his deck swing.

Back in the day he was a very good athlete and played semi-pro football, he loved to drive the “green hornet”, and loved to go dancing. There were always gatherings of family and friends, music, food, and laughter in the house. The door was always open and was a safe and warm place for anyone that entered.

Not only was he a devout Catholic but a devout and proud veteran and Democrat! A thrill was when him and mom went to John F. Kennedy’s and Bill Clinton’s conventions. He loved debates and was an advocate for his fellow union members and would travel anywhere to make sure their voices where being heard. We believe that is what kept him alive!

Al was involved in community projects. Working alongside his fellow knights on fish chowder night, basketball shoot fundraisers, helping to organize the painting of the town’s fire hydrants, building the park gazebo, ringing of the bell at Christmas for the Salvation Army, to handing out poppies on Remembrance Day, to name just a few. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Don (Lillian), Eddie, Omar, Babe (Norma), sisters Evelyn Morneau (Leo), Jean Carey (Harold), Van Peters (Lee), B-I-L; Chip Plant, Bob Turmelle (Dot); S-I-L: Katherine Duguay, Cecile Gagnon, Judith Turmelle; and great-grandson Nathan.

DAVID A. COSGROVE

WATERVILLE – David Adams Cosgrove, 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, in his home, in Waterville. David was born in Waterville to parents Robert and Marjorie Cosgrove.

He graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, and earned his business degree at Nichols College, in Dudley, Massachusetts. He cherished his time at Nichols, where he made many lifelong friends. Soon after college, David married Marilyn Fitzpatrick; they were to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in May.

David earned his Maine real estate license in 1971 and began working for the family business, The Cosgrove Agency, in Waterville, where he sold real estate and insurance alongside Marilyn for 35 years. Upon selling the Cosgrove Agency in 2015, David worked for GHM Insurance, in Waterville, and sold real estate for the Coldwell Banker Plourde Real Estate Agency until retirement.

David was a respected and proud member of the Waterville community. He was a Corporator at Kennebec Savings Bank, a member of the Maine Housing Authority, Waterville Lions Club, and served on the board of the Waterville Sewage District. He was a member of the Waterville Country Club for many years, where he enjoyed golfing and spending time with his dearest friends.

David’s greatest achievement was his family; he was a devoted husband, adoring father, and proud grandfather.

Of no coincidence, he collected “Life is Good” shirts; he must have had at least 50. David embodied what it means to be a fan. He was a loyal Boston and Waterville sports fan, but his fandom was highest of daughters and grandchildren. He got the most joy from watching them in any sport in which they were involved; he never missed a game.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Fitzpatrick Cosgrove; his two daughters, Laura Cosgrove and Beth Cosgrove; and four grandchildren. His eldest daughter, Laura, lives in Waterville and has two children, Margaret “Maggie” Brock and Herbert “Jay” Brock V. Beth lives in Park City, Utah, with her husband, Seth Dromgoole, and two children, Sally Dromgoole and Samuel Dromgoole; his sister, Jane Cosgrove-Dirkman and husband Jack Dirkman, of Waterville; and sister Barbara Cosgrove-Schwartz and husband James Schwartz, of Barrington, New Hampshire; his nephews John Robertson and Matthew McDonough, and nieces Julie Robertson, Megan McDonough.

David was predeceased by his parents, Robert F. Cosgrove and Marjorie Adams Cosgrove; his sister-in-law Judy Fitzpatrick Weston; and niece Betsy Robertson.

A celebration of David’s life will be planned at a later date.

FAIRFIELD – Frederick “Fred” “Bobby” J. Dyer Jr., 92, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, March 30, 2022. Fred was born on Feb­ruary 9, 1930, in Fairfield, son of Fred­erick and Laura “Ackley” Dyer.

He married Mary Madeline Tobey, on July 10, 1948. In his early years he worked for Dr. Bovie, of Fairfield, who invented the electric scalpel used in surgery, where he had many enlightening conversations. Fred also started working as a young teenager, at The Flood Dairy Farm, in Clinton, to help support his family. After graduating from Lawrence High, in Fairfield, in 1948, he worked in construction before starting his career as a salesman for Waterville Window and Care Free Homes. He was a jack of all trades, being able to fix and build almost anything. As he always told us, “When I was young, I painted the gold cross on the steeple at The Immaculate Heart Church, in Fairfield”.

As a high school star athlete in three sports, Fred’s love of sports was carried on through his sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, in Fairfield, and at Lawrence High School, until he died. He was an avid New England sports fan, enjoying watching the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins, and Maine college games.

Fred, aka “Gramps”, was very devoted to his family. He would help anyone with projects they were doing, building decks, repairing cars, and was always available to give rides to school or work, not only to his family but to his local community friends.

Fred was an extremely outgoing person. He was a frequent visitor to local stores and became friends with many of the workers at these stores. Every day he would run in to get his lottery tickets and end up sharing stories and jokes with them. One person said that when she was pregnant and her car was broken, he would give her rides to and from work, so she didn’t have to get a taxi.

BENTON – Roland “Rollie” Arthur Woodworth, 67, died Friday, April 1, 2022, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, following a two-year battle with cancer. Roland was born on November 18, 1954, in Waterville, to Harry (Skip) and June Barker Woodworth.

He graduated from Lawrence High School, inFairfield, in 1973. He married Joanne Kent, May 7, 1977. Roland worked at Huhtamaki, in Waterville, for 47 years starting out at the Shawmut mill. He served in the U.S. Army from 1980 to 1983.

Roland loved to fly radio-controlled airplanes and gliders and belonged to the KVMA Club and AMA for several years. He loved to read about history, especially the World Wars I and II and the American Civil War eras.

Roland is survived by his wife Joanne Kent Woodworth, of Benton; sons, Jason A. Woodworth and s/o Stacey Keith, of Lisbon, and Joshua A. Woodworth and his wife Jane, of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Alice, Andrew, and Jaina Woodworth, of Fort Worth, Texas, Elliot Woodworth, of Medway, and Irene Woodworth, of Lisbon; sister June Caron and husband Leo, of Benton; brother-in-law Bryant Kent and his wife Laura; and sister-in-law Mary Colson and husband Michael; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

EVAN A. KLANE

FAIRFIELD – Evan Andrew Klane, 31, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022, at his home. He was known as “the boy/man who outlived” all expectations.

Well known as his mother’s “Beautiful Boy”, her “Celtic Warrior”, Evan was born under a remarkable full moon on September 4, 1990, coming into his earthly world quietly, but fighting for his life.

Despite his lifelong disabilities, chronic and sometimes life-threatening illnesses, Evan defied the NICU staff predictions of not living to see a first birthday by going on to live for over three decades. Evan was known for his tenacity and fighting spirit, but a pure sweetness complemented his “tough guy” image. Evan’s joyful smile could light up the room, especially when something tickled that wicked funny bone of his, or whenever he would hear his beloved brother Ian tearing around the house as a little guy, or at Ian’s “Hey, Bud, I miss you, love you” each time Ian would call from his current home in Arizona.

Evan also enjoyed the many stories his dad, Jonathan, would read to him each week bringing a joyful connection as they shared a passion for the original Brother’s Grimm’s Children’s and Household Tales. Evan’s life had a profoundly positive impact on everyone with whom he came in contact.

As a graduate of the class of 2009 from Lawrence High School (MSAD #49), in Fairfield, Evan was a teacher as much as he was a student K through 12, as he taught empathy, compassion, perseverance, acceptance, tolerance, but most of all, love.

Evan was predeceased by maternal grandparents Charles “Grampy” and Lorraine “Grammie” McCallum, of Massachusetts, and paternal grandparents Keith “Grandpa” and Ethel “Nana” Klane, of Massachusetts. He is survived by his mother Deborah MacCallum Klane, of Fairfield; his father Jonathan Klane, of Mesa, Arizona; brother Ian MacCallum Klane (partner Ashley Mendola); maternal family Auntie Diana, Uncle George, and Cam Burke; Uncle Doug and Auntie Diana McCallum, and Uncle Dickie McCallum; paternal family Auntie Leslie and Uncle Ralph Brogna, Uncle Larry Klane; cousins, Bob, Jeff, Chris, Lisa and their families; and extended family Godmother Kathy Jason and her family and Jan Isbell.

There will be no formal funeral, but instead a Celebration of Life sometime in the summer or fall, 2022.

MICHAEL J. PUSHARD SR.

CHELSEA – Michael Joseph Pushard Sr., 81, died Wednesday, April 6, 2022. He was born in Augusta, on January 25, 1941, the son of the late Lawrence M. Pushard Sr. and Cecile (Poulin) Pushard.

While growing up on the Ferry Road, after school he would help the boatman (Frank Hassan) with many duties tending the ferry between Chelsea and Hallowell. At a young age, he was a caddy at the Augusta Country Club where he would walk from Chelsea to the club. One of his first jobs was being a security guard at AMHI, sharing many stories of walking the tunnels. During the ‘70s and ‘80s he helped build Chelsea station number one fire department and was assistant fire chief for many years.

He was employed by Edwards Manufacturing Company, in Augusta, from 1958-1983. Mike started as a chemical mixer working in the dye department. He then became the night foreman supervising the night shift operation in the finishing department. He ended at Edwards as the yard superintendent. He worked for Statler Tissue Company, inAugusta, from 1983-1995. He worked at Carlton Woolen Mill from 1995 – 1998. He finished his career at Maine Yankee, inWiscasset, where he later retired.

Mike married Joan Jacques on July 22, 1961. They had two children, Christine “Tina” Ware and Michael Pushard Jr.

Mike spent his free time golfing with his many golf friends. He enjoyed fishing and camping. There were many family outings spent in Jackman. He would go hunting and fishing at The Forks with good friends Gilbert and Joe Babcock. He enjoyed racing sled dogs with his good friend Mike Riley. He loved coaching his son Michael in Little League. He had a love of seafood! Back when you could dig for clams, he loved to take the kids to South Bristol.

He was a proud member of Le Club Calumet and the Elks Club, in Augusta.

He was predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Cecile and siblings: Lawrence Junior, Richard, Paul, Dennis, Mary Ann, and Germaine.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan; daughter, Christine and husband Randy Ware, of Augusta; son, Michael Jr. and wife Kimberly, of Chelsea; his siblings: David, Ronald, Gloria, Lorraine, Jeanne, and Priscilla; grandchildren, Ashley and her husband Doug, Amanda and her husband Derek, Brittany and Will, Courtney and her husband Troy, Sierra and Cody; great-grandchildren, Taylor and her husband Hunter, Lauren, Parker, Jackson, Grace, Ella, Olivia, Vincent, Luke, Emily, Hudson, Sylvana as well as several nieces and nephews.

At his request there will be no service or visitation.

JORDAN D. WILLIAMS

CLINTON – Jordan D. Williams, 78, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at his home, in Clinton. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Ronald and Vesta Williams.

He attended Clinton schools and graduated from Waterville High School in 1962. During his high school years, he worked for Cottle’s Supermarket, in Waterville. Soon after high school he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and was stationed at Cape May, New Jersey. He completed his Coast Guard duties in March 1970 and returned to work for Cottle’s as meat manager in Belfast and later in Waterville.

He met Barbara, his wife of 54 years, in 1967, in Waterville, it was love at first sight, and they were married in February after a short, four-month courtship. Soon after, they moved to their Clinton home where Jordan has resided since 1948. Jordan became a proud father of their first child, Ronald, in 1968 and second son, Jeffrey, in 1971. His son Bradlee was born in 1977, and daughter Heather in 1979.

Jordan was an entrepreneur, becoming owner and proprietor of Jordy’s Custom Meat Shoppe along with his wife, Barbara, in 1976. He was also renowned for his ability to operate machinery, including his bulldozer and backhoe used to landscape local properties, restore driveways, and install septic systems from 1988 through the early 2000s. This was one of his biggest joys.

In recent years, Jordan attended courses at Kennebec Valley Community College, in Fairfield, in precision machining technology. He became an accomplished assembler for Cooper Weymouth, in Clinton, and completed his working career as a tool crib attendant for Mid-State Machine, in Winslow.

Jordan was a past selectman for the town of Clinton and held previous membership in the Jaycees and Clinton Grange. He was a member of the Brown Memorial Methodist Church, the American Legion and Clinton Lions Club where he was a past president.

Jordan and Barbara enjoyed entertaining at Riverbend Campground where they had a seasonal site.

He was predeceased by his parents Ronald and Vesta and brother Dale.

He is survived by his wife Barbara and their four children Ronald and wife Julie, Jeffrey and wife Serena, Bradlee and wife Trish and Heather Ward and husband Jim; his grandchildren Kaia, Piper, Coulton and wife Allison, Madeline, Morgan, Hazel, Odin, Haley, Leah and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to a service at the Brown Memorial United Methodist Church, in Clinton, on April 23, 2022, at 2 p.m. A celebration of life will immediately follow in the church fellowship hall. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at the Town House Hill Cemetery, in Clinton.

PHILIP B. DAGGETT

FAIRFIELD – Philip Bruce Daggett, 73, died peacefully, following a brief illness, on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Eastern Maine Medical Center, in Bangor.

Phil was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on October 3, 1948, the son of Harry “Bud” and Elizabeth (Knowlton) Daggett. Phil graduated from Washburn High School in 1967. He was drafted into the U.S. Army that same year and served our country honorably in Vietnam. He was awarded a Purple Heart for his service and was honorably discharged in 1969. Upon his discharge he continued to serve the country as an employee of Bath Iron Works as a pipe fitter. Phil eventually obtained his bachelor’s degree in counseling from the University of New England, in Biddeford, and a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Maine. He worked as a school counselor for several school systems throughout northern and central Maine and was dedicated to his students and imparted his wisdom to them regarding spruce gum.

Phil may have been best known for his time spent at Hewes Brook Lodge. Under his leadership and guidance, he expanded The Lodge with the help of family and friends from a small family cabin frequented by local hunters to a four-season retreat loved by hunters, anglers, snowmobilers, and nature enthusiasts from all over the United States and beyond. Phil was a Registered Maine Guide and a lover of all things associated with the Maine North Woods. Despite his varied career, which took him all over the state of Maine, his roots were always in Aroostook County and were particularly grounded at Hewes Brook Lodge, just west of Portage.

Phil’s spirituality was very personal to him, and he spent many hours in deep thought and meditation. Phil was known to be many things which included a master craftsman, artist, cook, gardener, builder and most importantly, storyteller.

Phil was predeceased by his parents Bud and Lib (Knowlton) Daggett; and his sister, Elaine Patterson and her son, Matthew Holmes, of Massachusetts.

Phil is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cheryl; his two daughters, Candy Lessard and her partner, David Sovetsky, of Winslow, and Sandy (Ghent) Holdsworth, of Caribou; six grandchildren, Christopher (Emily) Corey, Athena Sargent and her fiancé, Andrew Nicknair, Deanna (Jessie) Murchie, Matthew Corey, Mason (Monica) Sargent and Jonathan Corey; nine great-grandchildren, Julia, Olivia and Daniel Corey, Brantley and Noura Nicknair, Gabby and Ezra Murchie, Daniel, and Owen Sargent; his brother, Dana Daggett and his partner, Carol, of Bryant Pond, and his sister, Susan (Everett) Adams, of Fort Fairfield; sisters-in-law Linda Hersey, and Charlotte (Donald) Jackson; nephew, Sai Adams, and nieces Naomi Donaldson, Aurora Adams, and Leah Arteaga.

A celebration of life was held on April 15, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, located at 107 Main St., Fairfield.

RAYMOND PICKERING

CLINTON – Raymond Pickering, 74, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2022. He was born September 13, 1947, in Blue Hill.

He graduated from Bucksport High School in 1965 and then went on to attend and graduate from Maine Maritime Academy, in Castine.

Ray had a passion for hunting and fishing from his early days that continued throughout his life. His many expeditions to Newfoundland, the camp he and Bob once owned, and fishing with his buddy, were among his most fond memories. Ray loved his log cabin home in Clinton and his many yellow labs. Ray was a member of the Clinton Lion’s Club and also the Masonic Lodges, in Sebasticook and Orland.

He was predeceased by his mother Martha Gracie and his grandmother Hittie Pickering.

He is survived by his four siblings, Joyce Gracie, Janice Boetsch, Edward Gracie, and Sally Bottie, along with their families; Linda Watson, to whom he was once married, and remained good friends with; his late uncle Frank Pickering; cousins Richard Lord and Di Johnson; his sister Coleen Bean.

EMERLINE P. BARTLEY

SHAWMUT – Emerline Pearl (Gurney) Bartley, 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 28, 2022, following a short illness. Born on August 7, 1926, to Otis A. and Gelie M. Gurney, she grew up and remained a lifelong resident of Shawmut.

She attended Fairfield schools, graduating from Lawrence High School in 1945.

She became employed at the Keyes Fibre Company’s Shawmut Pulp Mill, in 1946, where she met and avoided the persistent advances of Eldon Bartley for quite a while until her twin sister Earline stepped in and told her that he was not going to keep asking her out forever. Earline demanded that she say ‘yes’ the next time he asked her out, and then she told Eldon to go tell Emmie what time he was picking her up, and that was that. Emerline and Eldon were married on April 24, 1948. They celebrated 66 years together before Eldon’s passing in June 2014.

Emmie worked for Keyes Fibre (now Huhtamaki) from 1946 until her retirement in 1988. She was a long-time member of the Shawmut Chapel, a 50-year member of the Goodwill Rebekah Lodge and long-time volunteer with her sister Earline and their husbands at the Fairfield Food Pantry and at Good Will-Hinckley’s Festival of Trees.

Together, she and Eldon enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycling, bowling, and any time spent at their camp in Mud Cove, on Moosehead Lake, in Greenville. Although she would go out fishing on the lake, her favorite fishing spot was Prong Pond where she spent hours with her great friends Florence and Bobby Decker. Emmie did not care what kind of fish she caught, she just liked catching fish. She also enjoyed time in the sky flying with Eldon in his Piper Cub Plane.

She was a favorite aunt to many of her nieces and nephews, and they hold cherished memories of time spent with her skating on the Kennebec River or walking down the train tracks to Black Stream where many hours were spent on the ice. The Skowhegan State Fair was a favorite yearly outing, as well as any quick trips for an ice cream. Holiday gatherings were always extra special because Aunt Emerline spent all her time playing games with the kids.

You couldn’t go visit Aunt Emerline and not walk away with at least a $5 bill tucked in your pocket, rather you knew it was put there or you surprisingly found it later. Her home was a safe and loving space, and visits were filled with a lot of laughter, a good card game, and the insistence that you have something sweet to eat.

Emerline was predeceased by her husband, Eldon Bartley; her parents Otis and Gelie (Peavey) Gurney; her brother Omar Gurney, sisters Ruby Harding and Christine Beaulieu, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law on both sides.

She is survived by her twin sister, Earline McGoff; and many nieces and nephews.

At her request there will be no visitation hours or funeral service.

MICHAEL R. L’ABBE

FAIRFIELD – Michael Richard L’abbe died on Wednesday March, 9, 2022, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Mike really loved being in the open outdoors exploring the woods and had a love for animals so much so at one point he worked at the Humane Society in the early 2000s and once done there took in many animals and cared for them; he also was a mason tender, which he built part of the golf course over at Giffords in the ’90s. He was a great friend, a great uncle and amazing husband.

He was predeceased by his father, Fernand L’abbe, his mother, Lucille L’abbe; and his brother, David L’abbe.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl L’abbe of 39 years, one another’s better half, a full life of love and happiness; two brothers, Stephen L’abbe and his wife Natalie L’abbe as well as Scott L’abbe and his fiancée Shelly Crosby; a sister, Susan L’abbe; Peggy Sherwood, his niece who loved him very much, as well as Cody L’abbe, his nephew; many great-nieces and great-nephews.

There will be a celebration of his life to be determined.

KEITH N. PEASLEE

VASSALBORO – Keith Norman Peaslee, 86, of Vassalboro, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022. Keith was born, in Windsor, on May 18, 1935, to George and Gwendolyn Peaslee.

He was the fourth of eight children born at home. Keith met the love of his life, Sylvia, while attending Cony High School, in Augusta. He graduated in 1953, and they married on October 6, 1956. They served in the U.S. Army together two years before returning to Vassalboro to start a family, bringing Daniel home in 1963 and Kathy in 1965.

Keith worked in the state laboratory as a chemist, worked as a x-ray technician, and he and Sylvia successfully sold Electrolux for several years. He was an active member of the Vassalboro Fire Department, the Vassalboro Masonic Lodge and a trustee at the North Windsor Baptist Church, for over 35 years.

Always prepared with a story to share or an item to show, Keith and Sylvia always welcomed family, friends, and even strangers into their home.

Keith was predeceased by his parents, five of his siblings, and his wife Sylvia.

He leaves behind his two children, Dan and Kathy; siblings Judy and Hank; seven granddaughters; 11 great-grandchildren with two on the way; and one great-great-grandson. He had many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 26 , at the North Windsor Baptist Church.

A graveside burial took place on Monday, March 28, the Veterans Cemetery, in Augusta.

JEROME CARON

WATERVILLE – Jerome “Jerry” Caron, 62, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Maine­General Medical Center. He was born in Waterville, November 20, 1959, the son of Henri and Antoinette (Reny) Caron.

He was raised on the Cushman Road, in Winslow, at the family home with four siblings.

Jerome lived in Waterville most of his adult life. He graduated from Winslow High School in 1978 before beginning work in a variety of carpentry and construction capacities.

From 2004 to current he worked as a property manager in Waterville and managed a number of properties and dozens of tenants. His energy, effort and positive outlook were infectious, and he was respected and appreciated by those who knew him best. As personable and thoughtful as he was, perhaps his most compelling characteristic was his integrity. He took great pride in being reliable and being a man of his word. Those around him always knew they could depend upon him, regardless of the circumstances. If Jerome told you he was going to do something, he did it.

A lifelong New York Giants fan, Jerome also greatly enjoyed fishing, boating, kayaking and getting together with his family and friends on birthdays and holidays.

Jerome was predeceased by his parents Henri P. Caron, on August 2, 1996, and Antoinette M. Caron, on May 10, 2008; and by his brother Roger J. Caron, on October 4, 2020.

He is survived by three siblings, Leo P. Caron and wife, June, of Benton, James P. Caron, of Dania Beach, Florida; a sister, Yvonne M. Reifschneider and husband, Mark, of Canaan; a niece Anna Caron and a nephew Paul Caron, both of Benton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022, at St. John the Baptist Church, 26 Monument St., Winslow, with Father Daniel Baillargeon officiating.

Committal prayers and burial will follow in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Grove St., Waterville.

CHRISTOPHER A. BENNETT

OAKLAND – Christopher Anthony Bennett, 39, of Oakland, passed away unexpectedly on Thurssday, March 17, 2022, at Eastern Maine Medical Center, in Bangor. Christopher was born on August 19, 1982, in Deer Lodge, Montana.

Christopher grew up in Parkers Chapel, Arkansas and in Maine. Christopher graduated from Townsend High School, in Townsend, Montana, in 1999. Christopher was an avid sports fan, especially the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.

Christopher enjoyed fishing, movies, video games, music, going to Foxborough to see his favorite team, and spending time with family and friends.

His girlfriend (Nicole Day) and her two children (Kaiden and Corbin) were very special to him and he loved them very much.

As Christopher’s family and friends knew, he struggled with mental illness for most of his adult life. Due to his illness there were many dimensions to Christopher and although some days were a struggle for him, he was truly grateful for the people in his life. He will be forever loved and missed.

Christopher was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Donald and Carol Bennett, his maternal grandfather Ronald Loring, and his sister Cassie Jo Bennett.

Christopher is survived by his father Philip Bennett (spouse Sheila Bennett); his mother Tina Loring-Graham (spouse Edwin Graham); maternal grandmother Elizabeth McLeod; sister Courtney Loring-King; brother Thomas Bennett; step-sister Laura Wallace; step-brother Nickalas Graham; nephew Jeremiah Loring; niece Jennifer King; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

GARY W. PELLETIER

PITTSTON – Gary William Pelletier, 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at VA Togus Springs Hospice Center, Augusta. He was born in Presque Isle on October 1, 1947, to parents Rita and Eugene Pelletier, of Waterville, where he grew up and attended Waterville schools.

Gary served his Catholic faith community throughout his lifetime. Gary served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. After Gary was discharged from the Army, he returned home to Waterville.

He worked in friends’ local business for short time and then became employed by VA Togus for 30 years as librarian technician. He received recognition and awards for his dedication as a librarian technician. He retired in 2009 and enjoyed traveling, fishing, cooking and long walks in many local scenic parks. Gary was a loyal, trustworthy friend who would help anyone for whatever reason or cause.

He was predeceased by his parents and grandparents.

He is survived by his daughter Allison and grandchild, of Washington; many close extended families: The Coutures, Cormiers and Poulins

A celebration of life for Gary will be held later in the spring at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt Vernon Ave. Augusta.

GLENN E. PARADIS

WATERVILLE – Glenn Edward Paradis, 57, passed away on Monday, March 21 2022. Glenn was born on August 31, 1964, to James Robert and Bernadette Paradis.

Glenn graduated from Bristol Central High School and worked as a shipping and receiving truck driver at the former Amstek Metals, in Connecticut.

Glenn loved his family to no end. His greatest pride and accomplishment was his son Christopher and he loved and cared for his mother unconditionally. His heart, and love for all of his family and all those who came in contact with was immeasurable.

Glenn loved to collect eagles, swimming and the sun. You could always find him outside or by the water enjoying nature.

He attended Faith Church, in Waterville, and had a deep love and closeness with God.

Glenn was predeceased by his father James and brother Dale G. Paradis.

DOROTHY M. READ

WASHINGTON – Dorothy M. Read, 80, of 36 Calderwood Road, died Sunday, March 24, 2022, at Sussman House, Rockport, following a brief illness. She was born in Gardiner on May 29, 1941, the daughter of Harry D. Tisdale and Dorothy M. (Morgan) Tisdale.

Mrs. Read was a homemaker in her own home for most of her life, raising her children. She also had a large extended family of children that she took into her home and treated as her own. She, her husband John, and children operated carnival games all across the northeast at all the major fairs, her favorite in her latter years being the Windsor Fair!

She was a member of the South Berwick VFW in her earlier years.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, John M. Read Sr., second husband, Armand Tardiff; father, Harry D. Tisdale, mother, Dorothy M. (Morgan) Tisdale; sisters Janice Jenkins of Maine, Arlene Findley-McRee of North Carolina, Harriet Rogers of Ohio; and four grandchildren, Amy, Joey, Ethan, and Emily.

Surviving is a daughter, Donna Smith and husband Clayton, of Augusta, four sons, Walter Read Sr. and wife Rose, of Thomaston, Brian Read, of Washington, Jeffery Read and wife Angela, of Somerville, and John M. Read Jr., of Washington; one brother, Harry D. “Sonny” Tisdale and his partner Annette, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; and extended family, Lewis Staples and Randy Duquette; 35 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

At her request, there will be no public visitation.

A celebration of life will be held on May 7 at the Gardiner Lions Club, 25 Lions St., Gardiner, at 1 p.m.
