HARRY E. PHILLIPS

­WINSLOW – Harry E. Phillips, 89, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019, at his home. He was born Dec­em­ber 11, 1929, in South Hamp­ton Township, New Jersey, the son of Alonzo F. And Dorothy M. (Wells) Phillips.

He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Army until his honorable discharge. He worked for many years, in various jobs in the shoe shop industry.

Harry is survived by his son, Daniel E. Phillips and Partner Erika R. Bottjer, of Winslow; two sisters, Gladys Pyle, and Beatrice Bachman, both of New Jersey; two brothers, Ronnie Phillips and wife Rose, of New Jersey, Warren Phillips and wife Sue, of South Carolina; sister-in-law, Frances Phillips and family, of New Jersey; two granddaughters, Samantha D. Perry and husband Andrew, of Fairfield, Tabatha L. Phillips, of Anson; grandson, Tyler D. Humphrey and partner Haley Friend, of Waterville; three nieces, Karen Pyle, Myra (Bachman) Conover and Debbie (Bachman) Latshaw, all of New Jersey; two nephews, Scott Phillips, of North Carolina, and Ronny and wife Rhonda (Smith) Phillips, of South Carolina.

A Celebration of Life will be held in New Jersey for family and friends at a future date, a private celebration of life gathering to be held locally.

ARTHUR N. LARSEN

WINSLOW – Arthur Neil Larsen, 74, of Winslow, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Augusta Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Waterville on October 18, 1944, to Bernard and Rosie (Hunne­well) Larsen.

In his youth, Arthur attended Waterville schools and graduated from Waterville High School in 1963. In October of 1963, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Hamilton, in New York, after basic training. He then was sent to serve in Munich, Germany, until his honorable discharge in September 1966. He also served as a reservist until October 1969. Later, he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal.

On September 28, 1968, he married the former Joan Bergeron, of Oakland, and began their life together, locating in Winslow, where they celebrated each other through 50 years of marriage.

Early on in their married life, Arthur worked for Barrows Mayflower as an accountant. Later, he was employed by KVCAP as their transportation director, where he initiated the public busing service that continues to aid the greater Waterville and Augusta area to this day. He also took classes at Thomas College, in Waterville, at this time. His favorite years of employment were served at Larsen’s Variety—his convenience store/gas station, where he worked with his wife Joan and his children Arthur and Melissa. There he spread his goodness and humor to locals and patrons with a friendly smile and a helpful hand. He was also a loyal member and former president of the Lions Club.

During his younger years, he collected stamps and rare coins that he later used to share stories with his grandchildren. His love of history and family lineage sent him on a genealogy journey after his retirement that spanned approximately 15 years. He gathered research from cemeteries and libraries across the state and spent a lot of time at the Winslow Public Library. He also became ‘savy,’ connecting with other genealogists through Facebook. He loved the outdoors, which included feeding the birds and weeding his flower gardens; he may have had a few encounters with a squirrel or two. Watching golf on TV was also a beloved pastime. Above all, his most precious moments came from spending time with his family.

Arthur is survived by his wife Joan; son Arthur B. Larsen and wife Sheri, of Winslow; daughter Melissa Stanley, of Fairfield; grandchildren Joshua, Jacob, Katelynn and boyfriend Jacob Grenier, and Caleb-Jared (Larsen); grandchildren Samantha and boyfriend Dylan Young, Michael Jr., and Shelby (Stanley); sister-in-law Linda Nelson and sons, Dana and Chester; sister-in-law Evangeline Davidson and husband Robert; sister-in-law Shirley (Bard) Huard; sister-in-law Joyce Larsen-Lord; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great nieces.

He was predeceased by his father Bernard Larsen, mother Rosie Larsen, brother Allan Larsen, son-in-law Michael Stanley Sr., brother-in-law Dana Nelson Sr., brother Earl Shaw, sister-in-law Carol Bard and her husband Emile, and brother-in-law Clifford Haines Jr.

RICHARD E. BEALE

WINSLOW – Richard Earl Beale, 80, a 24-year veteran of the United State Air Force, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at his home in Winslow. He was born October 23, 1938, in Danforth, the son of Elijah M and Lilla B (Scott) Beale.

He was educated in the schools of Danforth and graduated from Clinton High School in 1957. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the Unihted State Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1982. He was employed at Pratt and Whiney Aircraft prior to his career in the military, and with VIP Auto after his retirement from 1984 – 1987. He was a member of the Clinton Lions Club and the U.S. Air Force Association.

Richard is survived by his partner of 23 years, Anna Gerald; his children, William Michael Beale and his wife Diane, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Laura Hatfield, of Waterville, Richard Beale and his wife Karen, of Yuba City, California, Mailissa Cavanaugh and her husband Andrew, of Indian Springs, Florida, Mary Dowe and her husband Richard, of Windsor, and James Beale; his sister Mary Randall, of Augusta, sister-in-law Drena Beale, of Florida, and brother-in- law Peter Levesque, of Oakland; 21 grandchildren and too many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members to list.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, his brother Robert Beale, his sisters Margaret Bailey, Verna Proctor, Arlene Beauregard, and Virginia Levesque; his son Robert Mark Beale and the mother of his children Ruth Elaine (Hawes) Beale.

A Celebration of life will be held at the Brown Memorial Methodist Church at 36 Church St, Clinton, ME at a.m., on Saturday, June 22, 2019, followed by a graveside internment.

RAYMOND A. PELLETIER

WINSLOW — Raymond Adrien Pelletier, 89, passed away at his home on Sunday, April 28, 2019. He was born on December 23, 1929, at the beginning of the Great De­pression, the eleventh of twelve children of Patrick and Desneiges (Plante) Pelletier.

Despite having been raised in poverty and having faced great adversity throughout his lifetime, he demonstrated determination, resourcefulness, frugality, integrity, vitality, grit, sincerity, kindness, and resilience, modeling these qualities for his family and friends.

Raymond, the first in his family to graduate high school, attended Winslow High School, class of 1948. He was on the Periscope staff and participated in numerous sports, lettering in baseball and football. During the final game of his senior year, he scored the game-winning touchdown against Lawrence High School. He was later selected as a running back on the All-Maine Team.

After high school, he attended Coburn Classical Institute, in Waterville, until its closure. He then attended the University of Cincinnati, but withdrew due to financial constraints. In 1950, he enlisted in the Navy where he rose to the rank of Ensign 1 as a diesel engine mechanic in the Engineering Division aboard the Battleship USS Wisconsin.

In 1952, he married Jeanne I. Poulin, his high school sweetheart. In 1954, Raymond received an honorable discharge and returned to Winslow. Under the GI Bill, he attended the University of Maine at Orono where he studied chemical engineering. Following his freshman year, he withdrew to support his growing family. Though never able to complete his college degree, he instilled his value for education in all of his children, each of whom graduated from Harvard University and subsequently became his “dream team” of professionals in the fields of education, engineering, finance, law, and medicine.

From 1955 to 1992, Raymond worked as a union ironworker and became a 65-year member of Ironworkers Local #496. He contributed to the construction of U.S. Navy communication towers, U.S. Department of Defense nuclear missile silos, bridges, paper mills, and numerous commercial and public buildings, including the Maine State Capitol Building and several hospitals. After retirement from active construction work in 1992, he continued for over a decade to serve as an instructor of rigging, reinforcing, and welding for the ironworkers apprenticeship program and the Maine Technical College System. He was a lifetime member the American Legion, Post Number 5, in Waterville and the Winslow VFW Post 8835.

He is survived by his partner and fiancée of 30 years, Martha (Grindall) Audet; his six children, Ronald Pelletier and wife Ning Sawangjaeng, of Lincolnville, Janice Pelletier and husband Len Kass, of Orono, Karen Pelletier and partner Anu Makynen, of Portland, Mark Pelletier and wife Leslie King Pelletier, of Winslow, Dominic Pelletier and wife Beth Audet Pelletier, of Raymond, and Jeffrey Pelletier and wife Lilly Ampai Chiu Pelletier, of Manhattan Beach, California; 11 grandchildren; two step-children; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In 1989, Raymond met Martha Audet while working at Scott Paper Company, in Winslow. Raymond became an important part of the lives of Martha’s children: Arlene and David McLean of Winslow, John and Ashley Audet of Winslow, and Beth and Dominic Pelletier; and Martha’s 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Raymond was predeceased by his parents; ex-wife and mother to his six children, Jeanne (Poulin) Pelletier; brothers, Patrick, Rudolph, Gerard, Lucien (Mike), Leopold, Armand, Robert, Joseph (Donald), sisters, Anne Marie Mailloux, Juliette, Cecile Ellis; nephew, Patrick Ellis, and several other nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law, Nancy (Willey) Pelletier.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, foraging, gardening, driving, traveling, and helping his children and grandchildren with home-building and maintenance. His skills with all things mechanical, as well as his work ethic, both on and off the job, were considered legendary.

DENNIS B. TOWLE

SOUTH CHINA – Dennis B. Towle, 71, of Lakeview Drive, South China, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at the Androscoggin Hospice House, in Auburn. Dennis was born on May 28, 1947, in Dover, New Hampshire. He was the son of John W Towle and Ruth L. (Smith) Towle.

After completing high school, Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era and received training in electronics. He later worked for an electronics company in California and most recently was employed as an electronics analyst at Digital Corporation, in Augusta.

Dennis enjoyed spending time with his friend, Mary, frequently visiting local South China restaurants and ice cream shops. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and indulging in his hobby of prospecting.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was predeceased by his brother, John A. Towle of Virginia Beach, VA; his first wife, Elizabeth (Czelust) Towle; and his second wife, Doris (Sirois) Towle.

Dennis is survived by his brother, Lesley Towle, of Palmyra; his stepson, Donald Sirois, of South China; stepdaughter, Jean A. Breton, of South China; and his dear friends, Mary Freeman, of South China, and Ronald Breton, of South China.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, May 5th at 2 p.m. at the South China Community Church. Burial will be at a later date at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

MICHAEL A. GILBERT

BENTON — Michael “Mickey” A. Gilbert, 58, of Benton, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at his home. He was born May 14, 1960, in Waterville, one of six boys of Lester and Jane (Laury) Gilbert.

Mickey graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, class of 1978.

Mickey enjoyed camping in the middle of nowhere, campfires, fishing, spending time at his camp in New Sharon and gardening. One of his passions in life was buying and selling anything he could make a buck on. Mickey had many fond memories and stories of going to Red Sox and New England Patriots games with family.

Mickey was most recently employed at Albion Manufacturing.

Mickey was predeceased by his parents Lester and Jane (Laury) Gilbert; and his wife Carol Gilbert.

Mickey leaves behind sons, Nick Gallaway and wife Kristina, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Jim Leclair and wife Nicole, of Norridgewock; grandchildren, Olivia, Ricki, Tyler and Jill; brothers, Allen Gilbert and wife Vicki, of Oakland, Robert Gilbert, of Farmingdale, David Gilbert and wife Rhonda, of Linneus, Edward Gilbert and wife Sheila, of Clinton, Steven Gilbert and wife Michele, of Belgrade; Godson, Alexander Gilbert, of Belgrade; several nieces and nephews.

Private burial service for family will be held at Pond Cemetery, in Unity.

Mickeys Celebration of Life will be held on May 18, 2019, at his residence at 128 Albion Rd., Benton, at 2 p.m. His family is hoping all friends and family will come celebrate and share stories and memories about Mickey. EDWARD E. LEARY

AUGUSTA — Edward E. Leary, of Palermo, and Augusta, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at his home, in Augusta. He was born on January 3, 1935, in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, son of Eugene and Margaret (Craik) Leary.

He married the former Janice Anderson on December 28, 1957.

Edward spent eight years in the naval reserves and several years in law enforcement in various capacities in state and local government, and then with the Maine Department of Transportation, retiring in 1988. He was particularly proud of his police work and spoke often of his experiences. Edward was a special man of high integrity. He was honest, straightforward, a true friend and companion, and a loyal husband who expected no less from his family, friends, and business contacts.

Edward maintained collections of fishing equipment, bicycles, knives, coins, and was respected for his knowledge of the value and history of each item. He spent most of his earlier years fishing in his spare time. Edward especially enjoyed the Spencer Lake area near Jackman, and the Rockwood area on Moosehead Lake. He visited those places his whole life, even after he had made his final cast.

Edward was predeceased by his infant son, Sean Edward; sister, Margaret “Peggy” in 1984; and his wife, Janice in 2014.

He is survived by three sons and their families, Shannon M. Leary and Rita Silvia, of Oakland, Edward Sean Leary and Amy Giles, of Portland, and Frank P. and Susan Leary, of Palermo; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Erin Faulhaber and her daughters Madilyn Kennedy and Amelia Faulhaber, of Clayton, North Carolina, and Kevin Leary, of Manchester, (daughter, grandchildren, and son of Shannon), and Paige and Kelby Leary, of Palermo, daughters of Frank and Susan.

A graveside ceremony will be announced at a later date at the Smith Cemetery, in Palermo, where Edward will join his wife and together they will rest.

EDWARD BELANGER

OAKLAND — Edward Belanger, 78, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. Ed was the son of the late Walter and Helen (Albert) Belanger.

Before retiring, Ed made his living as a commercial truck driver. Ed and his truck worked with many local contractors and road crews.

Ed was an avid NASCAR fan and never missed a Patriots’ game. He also enjoyed classic country music; when he wasn’t listening to it, he was singing it. Not a day went by that the History channel did not offer a program to grab Ed’s attention.

Ed is survived by his wife, Nancy; her son, Benjamin Belanger and his children, Mason, Brody and Georgia; her son, Jonathan Belanger, his wife, Betty and their children, Isabella, Gabriel and Addison; his brother Lawrence and his wife, Lynn, his sisters Theresa Culbertson and Judy Pelotte, sister-in-law, Annette Belanger; as well as Nancy’s family and several nieces and nephews.

Ed was predeceased by his sister, Pearl Dubois and her husband Bob, brothers, Guilford and Larry, and brother-in-law, Dean Culbertson.

At Ed’s request there will be no services.

ROBERT A. PULLEN

WINSLOW — Robert Alan Pullen, 56, of Winslow, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019. He was born to Robert E. Pullen and Linda J. Webber on April 8, 1963, in Waterville.

He attended Winslow High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He held several jobs over the years, including working at Crowe Rope Industries, in Winslow.

Alan was a skilled pool, darts and chess player, and he enjoyed watching NASCAR, football and hockey. He collected antiques, coins and NASCAR memorabilia. He will forever be remembered for his friendly and generous nature. He would frequently crack jokes and he was always willing to help anyone in need.

He was predeceased by his father, Robert E. Pullen; and his brother, William “Billy” Pullen.

He will be sadly missed by his mother, Linda Webber; sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and Jason Britton; brother, Gary Pullen; niece, Carmen Smith; nephews, Kyle and Travis Pullen; great-nephew, Elijah Pullen; uncles, Rodney Jordan and Gary Pullen; aunts, Glenis Staples and Louise O’Clair; as well as cousins.

ANASTATIA F. DENNIS

WINSLOW — Anastatia Fuller Huard Dennis, 97, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Lakewood Continuing Care Center, in Waterville. She was born December 9, 1921, in Livermore Falls, the daughter of Alton H. Fuller and Nellie (Crowley) Fuller.

She was the second child of four children: Arthur, Eileen and Desmond Fuller. She attended high school at Maine Central Institute, in Pittsfield. Ann married Lawrence Huard, of Winslow, on January 3, 1942. This union brought Ann her first child, Randy Huard. Unfortunately, she became a widow in 1944 when her husband was killed during the Normandy France Invasion of World War II. Ann married again on June 5, 1948, to Sylvio J. Dennis, of Winslow,. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage and three more children, Cynthia and twins Joy and Jill, before Sylvio’s passing in 2011.

Ann worked in many different career fields during her lifetime. She worked for the American Woolen Mill, in Pittsfield, and North Vassalboro, and the Cascade Woolen Mill, in Oakland. She also was employed at the C. F. Hathaway Shirt Factory, in Waterville, and the Diamond Match Company, in Oakland. After travelling west, she worked for Hughes Aircraft and AMPEX Electronics, in California.

Upon returning to New England, she began work at Pratt and Whitney and EML, Electronic Music Laboratories, in Vernon, Connecticut. Ann eventually settled back in Winslow. She finished her working years waitressing for Ken’s Family Restaurant and The Eating House.

Ann had many talents and hobbies. She was an amazing dancer. She was also a beautiful knitter, crocheter, seamstress, quilter and gardener. Many people have been recipients of her quilts, blankets and mittens that she made and donated. As the years progressed, her favorite activity was her days in the sun and fresh air and enjoying her family while watching the sun set at camp.

Ann was predeceased by her parents, siblings and spouses.

She is survived by her younger brother, Desmond Fuller, of Plano, Texas; son Randy Huard and spouse Connie Huard, of Winslow, daughters Cynthia (Dennis) Nordby and spouse Wes Nordby, of Minden, Nevada, Joy (Dennis) Roberge and spouse Scott Roberge, of Vassalboro, and Jill (Dennis) Vigue and spouse Rick Vigue, of Winslow; eight grandchildren, Mike and Mark Huard, Kevin Arnold, Heather Beaster, Ricky Vigue, Ashley, Kylee and Nicholas Roberge; and three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Huard and Malyn and Cameron Beaster; nieces and nephews, Desmond Fuller Jr., Vicki Vanderhoof, Dottie Potts and Danny Fuller.

A graveside gathering will be held at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, in Augusta, at a later date.

CLAUDE D. DeCHAINE

WINSLOW – Claude D. DeChaine, 91, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2019, following a long illness. He was born in Millinocket on April 25, 1927, to Pierre “Ned” and Leona (Martin) DeChaine

Claude attended Waterville High School, and as so often was the case for youth of the “Greatest Generation”, his mother gave consent for him to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served his country during World War II and the Korean War as a hospital corpsman

Claude married Gladys Cormier on September 3, 1948. After the war, he graduated from Coburn Classical Institute, in Waterville, before attending Bentley College, in Boston, earning his accounting degree. Claude worked for several years at Scott Paper Company, in Waterville, in the accounting department. The major part of his working career was 30 years with the National Credit Union Administration, assigned to the Boston office, as a credit union examiner. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post#5, Waterville,

He enjoyed big band music, dancing, playing golf and traveling with special long-time friends. Family was very important to Claude and he looked forward to the annual trips to the Samoset.

Claude is survived by his wife of 70 years, Gladys; a daughter, Claudia Pellerin and husband, Michael; two grandchildren, Kristen Bailey (Jarred) and Marc Pellerin (Stephen Kirsch); two great-grandchildren, Preston and Lily Bailey; brothers, Roland (Vernetta), Donald (Joan); sisters, Gloria Gamache, of Texas, and Theresa Perkins (Russ), of Connecticut; sisters-in-law, Helena Lien, of Wisconsin, Doris Datsis, of Washington; brother-in-law, Robert Cormier, of Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews.

At his request there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 5, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 26 Monument Street, Winslow.

THERESA M. GILMAN

FAIRFIELD – Theresa M. Gilman, 83, of Fairfield, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 28, 2019. She was born in Waterville, May 18, 1935, daughter of Fredrick and Theresa (Albert) Genness.

She attended schools in Fairfield and Limestone. At 16, she moved to Connecticut with family and returned a year later to Maine.

Theresa attended Notre Dame Catholic Church, in Waterville. She was an extremely hard worker, holding jobs in a parachute factory in Connecticut and the shoe shops in Norridgewock and Skowhegan. Theresa cleaned camps and houses, worked in restaurants, and even made and sold Christmas wreaths. Her greatest accomplishment was being an outstanding mother, grandmother, and friend, known as Mom and Nana to all.

Theresa always wanted to be busy, especially enjoying time outside, from working in her gardens, to caring for her chickens, a lifelong passion. Picking fiddleheads, and even hunting and fishing. She target practiced and was an accurate shot, and built campfires with her children and grandchildren. Theresa loved baking molasses cookies for all her children and grandchildren. She was an amazing baker and cook, often creating new recipes from what she had laying around, and enjoyed cooking on the grill and having BBQs with her family.

Theresa loved to relax in her chair during the evenings and knit or crochet blankets, hats, scarfs and mittens for her family. She played poker almost weekly with her family and taught them how to make Christmas wreaths. Theresa loved her dog Mini, she rarely did things without her, including taking her camping every year. Theresa left a lifelong legacy and will be dearly missed.

Theresa was predeceased by her parents,Fredrick and Theresa (Albert) Genness; siblings, Joe Genness, Daniel Genness, Ida Gibbins and Freda Boulier.

Theresa is survived by her husband, Wynne Savage; son, Dave Gilman; grandchildren, Adam and Sara Gilman, Jenny and John Robinson, Christina Gilman, Nikki Gilman; daughter, Maryann and Mike Brann, grandchildren, Michelle Brann, Jason Brann, Maryann and Chad Tompkins, Jessica Tuttle; daughter, Susan Gilman, grandchildren, Bobbi Jo Gilman, Crystal and Todd Mushero, Michael Gilman, Kristina and Ryan Parker; daughter, Pam and Albert Knight; son, Sidney and Dawn Gilman, grandchildren, Riley Gilman, Matthew Gilman; daughter Holly and Jim Marston, grandchildren, Oopie Clement, Brittney Marston; nine brothers and sisters; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

MARY JANE COBB

OAKLAND – Mary Jane Cobb, 76, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019. She was born on July 13, 1942, in Hartford, Connecticut, the only daughter of Lucien and Marie Drouin.

Mary Jane was blessed to have been lovingly cared for by her daughter Debra and son-in-law Mike until her passing.

Mary Jane spent most of her life in central Maine. She learned the value of hard work at her father’s restaurant, the original South End Café. This trait served her well throughout her life.

Mary Jane married Billy Cobb on March 25, 1960. Together they raised three children, Debra, Bill and Michelle. The camp and home in Pinkham’s Cove was a special place for many years. A resilient woman Mary Jane picked up the pieces and started a new chapter in her life after the early passing of her husband Billy in 1995. Mary Jane moved to Fairfield and shared a home with her companion Peter White. Mary Jane and Peter spent several summers camping at Green Valley Campground, in Vassalboro. Peter’s greatest gift to Mary Jane was her beloved golden retriever Molly. Molly was her best friend and companion after losing Peter to lung cancer in 2008.

When Mary Jane’s health started to decline she moved in with her daughter Michelle at the family home in Belgrade. Michelle and Mary Jane had a special relationship and Mary Jane was devastated when she lost Michelle in 2017. For the past 18 months, Mary Jane spent time living with her daughter Debra and son Bill. This was a special time for her grandchildren as they had the gift of hearing her stories and learning family history.

Mary Jane was predeceased by her husband Billy Cobb, Sr.; daughter Michelle Vintinner; great-granddaughters Olivia Jean and Carlie Rae Pelletier; brother Roger Drouin and special friend Peter White.

Mary Jane is survived by her daughter Debra Remmers and Debra’s husband Michael Remmers, and son Bill Cobb and his wife Martha; grandchildren, Joshua Doody, Megan Grard, Jennifer Biette, Christopher Mares, Cory Grard, Max Cobb and Katie Cobb; great-grandchildren, Braydyn and Ariya Grard; brothers, Herman and Henry Drouin; sister Lou Raynes; “son” Don Woodbury, Sr.; granddaughter Bridget Charrier; grandson Shane Remmers; great-grandson Michael Remmers and many nieces and nephews.

JOSEPH A. LEE

WINDSOR – Joseph Ancel Lee, 57, of Windsor, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019, at MaineGeneral Medical Center. He was born on September 26, 1961, to Elmer (Sonny) and Simonne (Colford) Lee, in Waterville.

He lived in Maine until he was four and then moved to Enfield, Connecticut, with his family. A few years later two uncles moved to Connecticut with their families and a close extended family was nearby once again. He attended school in Connecticut until the family moved to Palermo, where he attended Erskine Academy, in South China, and graduated from Cony High School, in Augusta.

As a child, he enjoyed playing with his various cousins and going to his grandfather’s camps at Togus Pond and Caribou Lake, boating, swimming, fishing, building rafts and generally horsing around. The memories he made there stayed with him his whole life. He loved snowmobiling with Grampie Martin, and stock car races with his Aunt Joyce and Uncle Gerald Nelson.

He began working for his father’s business, Lee’s Maintenance, mowing lawns and cleaning offices while still in school which taught him his work ethic. He worked 27 years in various nursing facilities as maintenance supervisor, and was self-employed as a painter for many years after, continuing until no longer able to work. He helped his father raise and train race horses and was a trainer and driver in the harness racing industry in Maine from 1985 to 1995. After retiring from the driving aspect of harness racing he worked for the Windsor Fair Association during fair week helping to maintain the track.

Joe’s focus in life was his sons and he enjoyed camping with them, their annual excursion to Fryeburg Fair, and teaching them how to hunt. They had a fun trip driving to Texas to visit his Aunt Pam and Uncle Bob seeing many sites along the way and touring the greater Dallas area. He loved the heat there and used to say when he retired he was moving there where he could always be warm. He enjoyed cooking good meals for two growing boys perfecting his recipes and was honored when his new daughter-in-law asked him how to make his recipes and teach her how to cook. They enjoyed “Survivor Night” when they had special meals and they watched Survivor as a family.

He was predeceased by his father, grandparents, several aunts and uncles and three cousins, Randall Lee, Bruce Lee Jr. and Bruce Tompkins all very dear to him.

He is survived by his mother; sons, Zachary and (Abby) Lee, of Windsor, and Dalton Lee, of Whitefield; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of Life will be held at St Mary’s Catholic Church, 41 Western Ave., Augusta, ME, on Saturday, April 13, at 11 a.m.

A graveside service will be held at Rest Haven Cemetery, Ridge Road, Windsor, ME, later in the Spring, the date of which will be communicated later.

Steven Curtis Russell, 67, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019. He was born April 22, 1952. Steve grew up in the town of Whitefield, the son of George and Georgia Russell.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 27, at 1 p.m., in the family lot in the Whitefield Cemetery.

WINSLOW – Mona Ann Marie Sirois, 58, passed away unexpectedly in her Winslow home on Tuesday, January 15, 2019.

Happiest when gardening, Mona enjoyed her flowers and plants and loved gathering with family and friends.

Mona, an LPN, was predeceased by her father, Philip Siirois and her stepdad, John H. Giroux Sr.

She is survived by her mother, Rita Tanguay Sirois Giroux; brothers, John Giroux, Robert, Gerard, and Ronald Sirois, as well as four sisters, Jeanine Chicoine, Pat York, LInda Welch, Diane Believance and families; seven nieces, 11 nephews, nine great-nieces, 15 great-nephews, one great-great-niece, and one great-great-nephew.

A Celebration of life is planned in Mona’s honor for Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Winslow Baptist Church, 1040 Augusta Road, Winslow. JANE C. MOREAU

FAIRFIELD – Jane Charlotte Moreau, 76, of Fairfield, died on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta. She was born on November 17, 1942, in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, one of six children of Edna May (Eddy) and Roy C. Wilkins.

She grew up in Farmington, New Hampshire, and over the years she worked in various shoe shops in Maine and New Hampshire.

Jane was a member of the Winslow VFW and enjoyed camping, knitting, sewing, crocheting, and quilting. She also took pleasure in her flowers and was an avid reader. She will be remembered for her caring and helpful ways, as well as being a great pastry cook.

Jane is survived by her husband of nearly 23 years, Ronald Moreau, of Fairfield; daughter, Terri Weston, of Barrington, New Hampshire; son, Dana Ricker and wife, Kristine, of Farmington, New Hampshire; daughter Christine Torno, of Lebanon; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

MICHAEL CALDWELL

ALBION – Michael Caldwell, 51, of Albion, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019, at his home, following a long and admirable battle with brain cancer. Mike was born in Waterville, June 27, 1967, the son of Linda and Walter Williams, of Waterville and Wayne Caldwell, of Florida.

He proved his immense strength and desire to be with his family when he overcame a prior diagnosis of cancer in 2006.

He graduated from Nokomis Regional High School in 1985 and worked for Tel Power, in Palmyra, for many years before being employed at Tidewater Telecom, of Nobleboro. Mike was proud of his 20 year career at Tidewater and loved his co-workers.

Mike was a family man and was always the happiest when his family was together. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, four wheeling and golfing. His children inherited his love for these activities. He was most proud of his 242 lb. 12 point buck; which got him into the Biggest Bucks of Maine club.

Mike was also very passionate about watching his children play sports. He and his wife Lynn attended every game during each season and spent many hours traveling to cheer for their favorite players.

Mike is survived by his best friend and wife of 20 years, Lynn Caldwell; children, Jessica and her husband Rob Bowie, of Plymouth, Christopher Caldwell and his companion, Kim Bancroft, of Waterville, Camryn Caldwell and Ethan Caldwell, of Albion; three grandchildren, Ashlyn, Conner and Alec Bowie, all of Plymouth; brother Scott Caldwell, of Corinna, sister Michelle and husband Bill Andrews, of Corinna; niece Amanda, nephew Cody and his wife Kristen and daughter Asa; mother-in-law Carol and husband Mike Ouellette, of Pittsfield, father-in-law Marland Soucy and his companion Diane Bartlett, of Dexter; brother-in-law Gary Soucy and wife Danielle and son Emmet. WILMA J. BICKFORD

AUGUSTA – Wilma Joan Bickford, 92, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019. She was born May 30, 1926, in Weeks Mills, to Lincoln and Gladys (Bailey) Reed.

Wilma graduated from Erskine Academy in 1943 and attended Gates Business College.

She married her childhood sweetheart, Maurice Bickford in 1944 and celebrated 60 years of marriage until his death in 2004.

Wilma was an avid bridge player and loved sharing her knowledge with others. She especially enjoyed her bridge friends at the Cohen Center and at Bob Brooks Garage.

She was a lifetime member of the Lily of the Valley Eastern Star, serving a few years as worthy matron. She worked as an administrative assistant and retired from the state after 20 plus years of service.

Wilma was predeceased by her husband Maurice; sisters Dycal Bonenfant and Martha Pushard.

Surviving is a daughter, Maureen Brochu; son Mark Bickford and wife Dorothy; sister Jane Farrington; grandchildren Kimberly Maddocks, Jason and Nicole Maddocks, Tara and Shawn Hembe, Amy and Jason Corliss and Diana Bickford; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Spring burial will be in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta; date to be announced.

WINSLOW – Gloria A. Papsis, 91, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019, following a battle with congestive heart failure. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on February 28,1928, the daughter of Roger and Anna Serena.

After living in the town of Cotuit, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod, for 25 years, Gloria moved to Winslow wo live with family, most recently she was a resident of Mt. St. Joseph Nursing Home, in Waterville.

Gloria enjoyed an extended retirement on Cape Co after raising her family with Eddie. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and spending time with family.

She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Eddie; and a brother, Victor.

She is survived by four children, Edward Jr. and wife, Candis, of Winslow, Stephen and wife Frances , of Franklin, Massachusetts, Elaine and her partner, Richard Desmond, of Mashpee, Massachusetts, and Robert, of Lewiston and fiancee Kellie Duplisea, of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren; and great-grandchild; a sister, Josephine.

WINSLOW – Theresa “Terri” A. (Grandmaison) Boudreau, 82, passed away Monday, March 18, 2019, at MaineGeneral Hospital, in Augusta. She was born March 5, 1937, in Oakland, the daughter of Roland A. and Hilda (Rood) Grandmaison.

She was educated in Oakland, and had worked at the Wyandotte-Worsted Woolen Mill, in Waterville, and waitressed at local restaurants. Terri also was a bartender at the VFW Post, in Fairfield, a job she truly loved. Many of her friends called her “Ma.”

Theresa had a deep love for her family. Christmas Eve was “her” night, buying gifts and supplying a fabulous buffet. She made sure that everyone went home with the leftovers.

She was a member of the Elks and VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing Bingo, cribbage and boating. She leaves her family with so many special stories and fond memories.

Theresa was a woman of faith, determination and a strong work ethic. Her family admires how bravely she fought all her health challenges with dignity and grace. She will be immensely missed by her family members and friends.

She is survived by her son, Michael and wife Rebecca; stepmother, Beverly Grandmaison; step son, Steve Boudreau and companion Tammi; grandchildren, Timothy Morgan and wife Sara, Michael Joseph and companion Crystal, Amanda Winn and husband Caleb, Roy Lawrence, Shawn Lawrence, Cami Hippler and husband John, Amy Davidson and husband Erik, Danika Morgan; brothers, Theodore, and Daniel; sisters, Pam and Lori.

JOSEPH N. POULIN

WINSLOW – Joseph Norman Poulin, 92, of Winslow, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, in Winslow. He was the son of Joseph Albert and Marie Dora (Michaud) Poulin.

Norman was a Seamen First Class in the United States Navy, serving his country during World War II. He was a longtime supervisor at Colby College in their physical plant operations until his retirement. Norman lived in his log cabin, that he built on Bay Street, for 40 years.

He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Winslow, where he was an Acolyte, a leader for the Amore Dei Prayer group, and a member of the St. John Grotto group. Norman was a longtime member of the Winslow Fire Department, Winslow
MacCrillis-Rousseau VFW Post 3835, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Winslow.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Lita (Tibbetts) Poulin; his sister, Jackie Marcoux; two step-sons, David and William Brill.

Norman is survived by son, Gary Poulin and wife, Louise, of Benton; step-son Timothy Brill; three grandchildren, Christian D. Poulin, of West Gardiner, Jason G. Poulin and wife, Lora Joy, of Bonita Springs, Florida, and Jessica Willette and husband Jeff, of Waterville; great-grandchildren, Avery, Hunter and Tatum Willette.

CHRISTINE M. REYNOLDS

OAKLAND – Christine Mitchell Reynolds, 90, of Oakland, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019, following a brief stay at Northern Light Inland Hospital, in Waterville. She was born May 14, 1928, in Sidney, the daughter of Scott and Una Mitchell.

She attended elementary school in Sidney and graduated from Williams High School, in Oakland, in 1947.

With enthusiasm and pride, she devoted herself to the role of homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and mentor. Her interests were varied, including cooking, sewing, craft projects, swimming and Girl Scout leadership. Animals, especially cats, including “Calli” the calico. were her constant companions.

She cherished time spent swimming with the “Oakland Bubble Babies.” Married to Lawrence Reynolds (Peanut), the couple enjoyed trips to Down East Maine, building a camp at Moosehead Lake, and winter residence in Florida.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1986. The companionship of a friend, Myron Wentworth, extended the enjoyment of retirement years. Christine (Teen) was a devoted member of the Oakland-Sidney United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Women and active with the “Lunch Bunch” Committee. For numerous years Christine consistently visited nursing homes, provided transportation to others, took food to shut-ins and extended a helping hand wherever she found a need. She will be greatly missed by the many friends who have shared warm relationships and lasting friendships., recognizing her as “Teen,” “Tina,” “Kitty,” “Gertrude,”or Christine.

She is survived by daughter Lillie Dugan and husband James, of Cortland, New York; grandchildren Carrie Hutter, of Keeseville, New York, Jae Dugan, (Glang), of Jamesville, New York, and Sarah Mitchell, (Glenn Ballantyne), of Harker Heights, Texas; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Lovejoy, of Oakland.

OAKLAND – Jacob Joseph Noyes, 25, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 4, 2019. Jacob was born in Waterville on May 12, 1993, to Dawna (Noyes) Kent.

Jacob attended Oakland schools and graduated from Messalonskee High School in 2011.

Jacob loved spending time with family and friends. His special friend, Will Stevens, was his true and loyal friend. Jacob also enjoyed fishing, hunting, four wheeling, movies, and the mud runs. He also loved working on old cars and trucks. Jacob was well known among his family and friends for his big generous heart, contagious smile, and personality. Jacob was employed by RJ Grondin & Sons and enjoyed driving dump trucks.

Jacob was predeceased by his grandfather and role model, Joseph Donald Giguere, whom he adored.

Jacob is survived by his ‘guardian’ and grandmother, Gloria J. EUGENE D. CLOUTIER

VASSALBORO – Eugene D. Cloutier (Dan), 71, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Maine Medical Center, Portland. He was born in Lancaster, New Hampshire, on September 17, 1947, the son of the late Eugene P. and Hattie F. (Mathurin) Cloutier.

Gene was a graduate of Groveton High School and of the University of Maine at Augusta, where he earned an associate’s degree. His strong work ethic began at the age of 10 when he started his summerly “worm business.” Many fishermen liked the worms he and his father sold because of the worms’ special diet of potato peels and brick dust. Through high school, he worked at Dupre’s Country Store, Groveton and Stark schools, Gary Normando’s moving company, and numerous other jobs. Gene worked at Groveton Paper Mill until he moved to Maine but was always “connected” to the mill via his dad, Aunt Putsy, Uncle Boomy, brothers, and friends. In Maine, he secured work at the Value House, Schiavi Mobile Home Sales, Goodwill Services, and MOCO. He worked for vocational rehab for the state of Maine and retired after 15 years of dedicated service. While employed for the state, he tirelessly lobbied in Washington D.C. for the transportation rights of the clients he served.

In Gene’s spare time, he loved to dabble in photography, go hiking and camping, work with his hands, and entertain friends and family, especially the grandkids.

After getting married in Groveton, Gene and his wife settled in Vassalboro in a home that Gene designed and built. They eagerly awaited the arrival of their son, Lance and daughter Michelle. When the two arrived, their house became a home and their hearts were filled with love.

Gene is lovingly survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane V. (Durgan) Cloutier; son, Lance D. Cloutier and his wife, Jennifer, of Vassalboro; daughter Michelle M. Hopper and her husband Jack, of Vassalboro; brothers William V. Cloutier of Concord, New Hampshire, David D. Cloutier and his wife Brenda of Concord, New Hampshire, Michael D. Cloutier and his wife Tahnya of Groveton, New Hampshire; a sister Carol A. Smith and her husband Harry, of Littleton, New Hampshire; a brother Dennis B. Cloutier and partner Angel, of Littleton, New Hampshire; a sister Ann M. CAROL J. FOWLER

UNITY – Carol J. Fowler, 81, of Unity passed away peacefully on Sunday, March, 10, 2019. She was born Nov­em­ber 29, 1937, in Skow­hegan, the daughter of Richard Mathieu and Louvine (Nadeau) Mathieu.

She graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, class of 1955, and went on to have a career as a beautician that spanned nearly four decades. In 1959 she married Floyd Fowler, of Thorndike.

Carol was an award-winning artist and loved playing the guitar, singing and dancing

She is survived by five children; Lauri Thomas-Fowler and her wife Linda, of Broadlands, Virginia, Sherri Lorette and her husband Kevin Blakeman, of Sharon, Vermont, Heidi Hilton and her husband Terry, of Bingham, Jodi Fowler of Kansas City, Missouri, and Todd Fowler, of Randolph, Vermont; one sister, Pauline Rogers, of Winslow; and one brother, Alan Mathieu, of Fairfield; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and her son, Matthew.

BARRY A. LEE

SOUTH CHINA – Barry A. Lee, 66, of Route 3, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at the Alfond Center for Health, in Augusta,. Barry was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on May 27, 1952, the son of James Madison Lee and Marylou (Haydon) Lee.

He was employed as a journeyman bricklayer by the Bricklayers Union for many years and ended his working career as a carpenter for Troy Prescott.

Barry was a member of the South China Volunteer Fire Department and China Rescue for several years.

He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, and by his father-in-law, Mickey Farrington.

Surviving is his wife, Melinda “Mindy” Lee, of South China; two sons, Rex Lee and James Lee, both of South China; four grandchildren: Madison Lee, Benjamin Lee, Hayden James Lee and Touareg Lee; his mother-in-law, Jane Farrington; and two sisters-in-law, Millie Thompson and Polly Boynton and her husband Peter; brothers-in-law Daniel Thompson, and Clyde Streeter and his wife Jenny; and beloved nieces and nephews.

There will be no public visiting hours and no public service.

DANA W. BEAULIEU, 55, of Anson, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 7, 2019, a Redington-Fairview General Hospital, in Skowhegan. Locally, he is survived by his mother Mary Ellen Beaulieu and partner Ron Gilbert, of Winslow.
