HELEN K. MOSHER

BRUNSWICK – Helen (Kenoyer) Mosher, 104, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019. She was born on September 17, 1915, in a small sod house built by Henry and Annie Kenoyer on the native plains of Vale, South Dakota. She was the first daughter born to a family of 10 children.

Her mother taught her as a young girl that a mother’s love is not divided like pumpkin pie between the children she brings into the world. Much to the contrary, a mother’s heart is multiplied with each successive life she creates, which explains a mother’s seemingly boundless capacity for love. What then, can we say of our Great-Great Grammy Helen who created, then mothered five living generations of children? Her lifetime is ultimately a mother’s love story of a proud and fiercely resilient woman who desperately loved her children, husband and extended family, while serving as the cornerstone of her community during the 104 years that her light shined ever so brightly on this earthly realm.

Helen crossed into the flowered fields of the great hereafter to join her pre-deceased husband Charles Mosher of 64 years, with whom she mothered more than 80 direct decedents, each of whom carries her enduring legacy of grace, piety and generosity.

Her humble beginnings on the Cheyenne River and pioneer values forged an ideology of personal resolve that placed family as the first priority in all matters. She learned as a young girl that home is where the heart rests after her family of 12 boarded a Dodge Touring car and Model T Ford truck to travel to a farm in Windsor, Maine, where the Kenoyers made their home. Her lifetime in Maine transcended the travails of living history through the Great Depression and multiple wartime services, to which she was no stranger as her Gold Star family gave handsomely to the causes of our nation. The loss of her youngest brother, Russell Kenoyer, over the skies of Germany on April 16, 1945, never healed, despite her stalwart faith bolstered by her decades long worship at the South China Community Church, on the shores of China Lake. Her longevity likewise saw the predeceased passing of her oldest daughter Margaret, brothers and sisters and grandchildren Laurie and Ross.

Having met Charles Mosher, the love of her life, she moved from her family home in Windsor to their first home in Benton Station where they raised a family, before moving to their final home overlooking China Lake. It was here that they lived their elder lives in the company of the huge family they bore spending summers at small cottages on Pine Point, on China Lake, hosting regular family gatherings and their rapidly multiplying grandchildren.

Her surviving family in addition to her children Richard, David and Winnifred and cousin Chuck Sisson who grew up in the Kenoyer family, includes more than 76 grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren. We will remember with affinity her illuminating and continuous presence in our lives, her emphasis on education, family history and summers on China Lake with heavy cookie jar lids, eating white perch for supper, Red Sox games on the radio, motor boats, painted rocks leading to the shore, slamming screen doors, the aromatic scent of pine needles and, always, her humming melodies somewhere in the house not far away.

Most of all, Helen Mosher was an affirmation not only of the existence of God in our world, but that He must truly love us to give us so many years in the company of her great maternal spirit. She was, after all, our mother whom we loved as the circle continues, unbroken.

JACQUELINE C. VIGUE

WATERVILLE – Jacqueline C. Vigue, 92, passed away at the Woodlands Assisted Living Center, in Waterville, on Monday, December 9, 2019. Jacqueline was born on January 1, 1927, the daughter of Joseph and Bertha (Madore) Rodrigue.

Jacqueline married Roger Vigue on May 30, 1962, and they made their home in Waterville. Jacqueline was a devout Catholic who attended Mass regularly at Notre Dame Catholic Church, in Waterville. She was a receptionist for Dr. Jean Bolduc and Dr. Lucien Pellerin.

Jacqueline was a very caring person. Her family meant everything to her. Jacqueline was a caretaker and was always taking care of people. Jacqueline also spent a lot of time praying for her family and others who she felt needed it.

Jacqueline was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Bertha Rodrigue; her husband Roger Vigue; her brothers, Robert Rodrigue and Louis Rodrigue; her sister Constance Rodrigue; brother and sisters-in-law, Mag and Lawrence Vigue, and brothers-in-law-, Russel Marquis and David Starbird.

Jacqueline is survived by her sons, James Vigue and wife Jane, Thomas Vigue and wife Vickie; her daughters, Mary White and husband Roy, Patricia Violette and husband Joel; her sisters, Gabrielle Marquis and Claudette Starbird; her sister-in-law, Marge Rodrigue; her brother, Eugene Rodrigue and wife Sue, where she was also a mother to Eugene and Claudette after their mother had passed; her grandchildren, Cary Colwell and husband Bob, Tony Violette, Melanie Smith and husband Justin, Robbie Violette and wife Abby, Brad White and wife Jasmine, Erica Millett and husband Tyler, Terri Hall and husband Rob, Mike Starbird and his wife Amy; and several great- grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are asked to visit on Friday, December 13, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 116 Silver St., Waterville.

ESTALEA GURGANIOUS

COOPERS MILLS – Estalea Gurganious, 70, of Coopers Mills, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2019. She was born in Palatka, Florida, on August 21, 1949, the daughter of Virginia and Raleigh Gurganious.

She graduated from Englewood High School, in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1968.

At the Country Manor Nursing Home where she resided, she was often referred to as “a little ray of sunshine,” by those who knew her. Some of her favorite activities there were playing Bingo, doing puzzles, and listening to music from visiting groups.

She attended The First United Pentecostal Church and the Apostolic Church, both in Augusta. She loved reading and listening to the Bible and was never afraid to witness to others around her of the relationship she had with Jesus Christ.

She also enjoyed and looked forward to visits with her son and daughter and their family.

She was formerly employed as a CNA both in Jacksonville, Florida and Gardiner, Maine.

She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Jones and husband Gary, of Palermo; son, Jerry Davis and wife Michelle, of Augusta; grandchildren, Kaylah Blazon and husband Jeremy, of Union; Abigail Jones and fiancé Chris Cory, of Palermo and Belfast; Rebekah Davis and Ryan Davis, both of Augusta; brother, Caston Gurganious and wife Linda, of Gainsville, Florida; brother, Carroll Gurganious, of Jacksonville, Florida; sister, Naomi Bradshaw and husband Tim, of Collierville, Tennessee. She also has several nieces, nephew, grand nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her sister, Pat Guynn; her brother, Kenneth Gurganious; her brother, Jimmy Burney; and parents, Virginia and Raleigh Gurganious.

EDMUND G. BOUCHER

WATERVILLE – Edmund G. Boucher, 96, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2019, at the Maine Veteran’s Home, in Augusta. He was born February 4, 1923, in Biddeford, the son of Ephren and Bertha (Lemire) Boucher.

He was educated in the Catholic schools of Biddeford then attended the University of Maine at Orono, graduating in 1950. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force as a second lieutenant during World War II until his honorable discharge. He was employed for many years as a chemical engineer (chemist) for various companies including Pfizer. After retirement, he worked as a chemical engineer all over the world helping companies set up equipment. He was a member of the American Legion and American Chemical Society. He enjoyed traveling, reading, and picking berries.

Edmund is survived by sister, Muriel Martel, of Biddeford; stepsons, Kevin Baker and wife Penney, of Mt Vernon, Greg Baker and wife Paula, of Smithfield; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his companion and wife, Marylin (Baker) Boucher, in March 2019.

A graveside service will be held at the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, in Augusta, in the spring of 2020 at the convenience of the family.

GEORGE F. BALBO

CHINA – George Francis Balbo, 69, of China, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 9, 2019, following a brief and courageous battle with an aggressive form of cancer, succumbing less than four weeks after his initial diagnosis and leaving his broad circle of family and friends shocked and heartbroken at his passing.

Born and raised in the Cleveland, Ohio, area, George grew up in a large family as one of 12 children, graduating from Lakewood High School in 1968.

In 1971 he began dating his future wife, Mary (Eiben) and soon after they followed one of his sisters to Maine to live in the Twitchell Hill community in Montville.

Beginning his career as a machinist, George also worked at various times as a firetower watchman, farmhand, roofer, surveyor’s assistant and more, but most of his career was as a talented, self-taught, and self-employed carpenter.

By 1975 George and Mary were married and had settled in China, where George, over the years, transformed their 1780s, one-room house into a multi-story, hand-built, off-grid home. Accomplished gardeners and homesteaders, George and Mary had huge gardens where they grew and preserved a large part of their year’s supply of vegetables, leaving surplus for neighbors at their roadside stand.

George’s kind and loving nature drew people to him. Having survived an abusive childhood, George found sobriety and mental health in his early 30s; his openness about his challenges and successes drew admiration and inspired many others. He worked tirelessly every day and was strong and fit until his illness. He was a legendary storyteller at any gathering and especially around his dining room table. He had an innate ability to make people feel comfortable and cherished. He had an expansive memory and a fact or song lyric (usually rock or blues) ready for any situation. He was charming, hilarious, and had an insatiable curiosity about others and the world in general. He rarely met a stranger who didn’t become a friend after their first meeting.

George was a voracious reader and a seemingly endless fountain of knowledge. Whenever someone (usually his younger daughters) would doubt something he said, he’d always say, “Don’t believe me? Look it up.” And 99 percent of the time he would be right. George had a special understanding and love of trees and the natural world. Two of his other great loves were Native American history and spirituality, and classic cars and motorcycles.

George is survived by his wife, Mary Balbo; daughters, Angela Balbo and fiancé Michael Januska, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jane Balbo and husband Aaron Burk, of Athens, Ohio; son, Jason Hooper and wife Brittney, of Cleveland, Ohio; daughters, Cari Balbo and husband Michael Maines, of Palermo, and Anna Balbo Baldwin and husband Thomas Baldwin, of South Portland; grandsons, Sam, Oliver, and namesake George; 16 siblings and step-siblings, along with their spouses; nieces, nephews and cousins; his Aunt Dolores.

BEVERLY F. ARCHER

PALERMO – Beverly F. Archer, 92, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at Alfond Center for Health, in Augusta, following a brief illness. Beverly “Bev” (Foster) Archer was born on March 12, 1927, at home on the Foster Farm, in Palermo.

In 1944, Beverly graduated from Erskine Academy, in China. During her senior year Beverly met, and began dating Claude “Kay” Archer, of Liberty. Kay would be the love of Beverly’s life. On March 26, 1949, Beverly and Kay were married at her family home, in Palermo, and from that day forth they would spend the next 67 years together.

Beverly and Kay were born adventurers. Following their marriage, they traveled and explored wherever work opportunities took them, including points in Maine, Montana, Pennsylvania and even Bogota, Columbia. It was in Bogota their daughter Jan B. Archer was born in 1955.

Beverly and Kay returned to Palermo in 1956. In 1957 they had built the home they would live in for the next 62 years. Eight years later, on June 17, 1964, their son Jeffrey K. Archer, was born.

Beverly was a wonderful homemaker and master cook. The family will forever hold dear all of her special dishes and baked goods, many of which became the traditional centerpieces to our family gatherings and celebrations.

Beverly was a loyal friend. Beverly was a dependable neighbor and community member. She was always quick to lend a helping hand. In younger years, Beverly served as a 4-H leader, a den mother for the cub scouts, and a school board member. She also served as a member of the Palermo Women’s Extension, the Sheepscot Fish & Game Club, and the Palermo Historical Society. But perhaps her most favorite involvement was that of the annual Tibbetts family reunion.

Beverly was resilient, strong-minded, and had a whole lot of good-old-fashioned common sense. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and mother-in-law. Beverly was the beloved foundation and heart center of her family.

On December 10, 2019, surrounded by family, Beverly passed away at the age of 92 at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta, following a brief hospital stay. Beverly will be deeply missed by her entire family. We are all so very grateful for having had her in our lives.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband Kay, her mother Clara Holloway Foster, her father Stanley E. Foster, and her twin brothers, Stanton Foster and Stanley Foster Jr.

Beverly is survived by her daughter Jan, of Palermo, her son Jeffrey and his wife Lisa, of Brooks; five grandchildren, Sarah Cobb, of China, Joshua Haiss, of Gorham, Audrey Nale, of Waterville, Frannie Archer, of Palermo, and Jacob Archer, of Brooks; and ten great-grandchildren, Kay Grady, Clara Grady, Kenneth Cobb, Carden Cobb, Colette Cobb, Jack Lyons, Lincoln Haiss, Anna Nale, Elizabeth Nale and Thomas Nale III.

A springtime graveside service is planned for Beverly at the Branch Mills Cemetery, in China. A date and time for this service has not yet been set.

PATRICIA B. PARADIS

WINSLOW – Just three days shy of her 89th birthday, Patricia Brann Paradis passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019. She was born in York on December 15, 1930, the daughter of William and Florence Brann.

She grew up in Augusta and later graduated from Morse High School, in Bath, where she met her high school sweetheart Bill. In 1950, Bill and Pat were married in Savannah, Georgia, where her husband served in the U.S. Army.

Pat lived in Winslow for over 50 years where she raised her family. She was a homemaker and babysat numerous children over the years. Her home on Marie Street was always open to family and friends. All who stopped by always felt welcomed and at home.

Pat was a loving and unselfish woman who always felt strongly about caring for others, donating to the church and many charities. She enjoyed country music, arts and crafts such as sewing, knitting, stain-glass, tole painting and gardening, but her biggest enjoyment was time spent with her family. She was the mastermind behind every successful family gathering; spending many summer weekends barbecuing by the pool side with family and friends.

Pat is survived by two sons, Chuck Paradis, of Fairfield, John Paradis and his wife, Debbie, of Litchfield, two daughters, Patty Paradis and fiancé Steve Libold, of Waterville, and Judy and husband, Jeff Berard, of Oakland; 10 grandchildren: Chris Berube, Nichole Hoague, Tiffany Winchenbach, Justin Paradis, Tasha Donor, Peter Paradis, Lindsey Troxell, Cameron Berard, Ryan Berard, pre-deceased by Alisha Lynne Allen; and 13 great-grandchildren: Hunter, Hayden, Ethan, Oryanna, Isabella, Charlie, Michael Jr, Darby, Adrien, Brooklyn, Aiden, Jaxson and William; many nieces and nephews.

At Pat’s request there will be no funeral services. There will be a private committal service with her immediate family.

BRIAN L. CLARK

ALBION – Brian L. Clark, 66, of Worcester, Massachusetts, and formerly of Albion passed away Thursday, December 12, 2019, following a short, but strong fight with cancer. Brian was born in Waterville on July 6, 1953, and was raised in Albion.

Brian was predeceased by his parents Leslie (“Pal”) and Carol Clark, of Albion. He is survived by daughter Jessica and her husband Scott Boulanger, of Manchester, New Hampshire; his siblings Sandra and her husband Lars Jonassen, of Albion, Steven and his wife Janice, of Eagle Pass, Texas, and Cathy Clark and Sharon Arnenson, of Allen, Texas; stepdaughters Judith and her husband Cliff Sales, Jennie and her husband Matt Keane, Greta and her husband Jason Gray, and Elizabeth “Liddy” and her husband Brian Tupper; aunt Barbara Knight, of Albion.

Brian graduated from Colby College, in Waterville, and went into a career in computer sales. He found a second career at L.L. Bean, in Maine, in customer service where he happened upon a long-lost friend on one of his late-night calls. He later moved to Worcester, Massachuseets, to marry Vicky and worked, until the time of his illness, at The Home Depot in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, where he made many close friends.

Brian was a lifelong fan of Boston sports teams and jumped at any chance to attend a game. He enjoyed golfing, spending time on Cape Cod, visits to Albion and vacations to Sanibel Island. Brian loved a good joke, an episode of Blue Bloods or a Dairy Queen blizzard at any time. His life was well lived.

JUDY R. STEVENS

SIDNEY – Judy R. Stevens, 55, died on Friday, December 13, 2019, following a valiant fight with cancer. Judy was born in Lewiston on May 11, 1964, to Philip and Alexina (Gagnon) Cyr. She attended Holy Cross School, in Lewiston, and then attended and graduated from Lisbon High School. Judy worked in several retail and clerical positions during her lifetime. While working at Maine Industrial, in Augusta, she met and married Glenn Stevens. They shared a home in Sidney, where they were married in August 2012.

Judy loved spending time with family and her beloved pets. She doted on her grandchildren either related or “adopted.” She was always ready to share her talents of crocheting, cross stitching and quilting in gifts to a newborn member of the family or friend or as wedding gifts to many lucky couples. Judy was a kind-hearted person and never hesitated to help anyone in need. Her compassion, love and many talents will be profoundly missed.

Judy is survived by her husband, Glenn Stevens; her son, Devin Chamberland, of Lewiston; her stepdaughter, Kirsten and her husband, Ryan Grobosky, of Syracuse, New York; and a stepson, Eric Stevens, of Pittsfield; grandchildren Mayson Ciarfella, Rowen and Phoebe Grobosky and the many nieces and nephews; her mother, Alexina; her sister, Debra Adams; brothers Ken Cyr and Randy Cyr.

Judy was predeceased by her father, Philip Cyr and her son Jeremy Ciarfella.

A celebration of Judy’s life will be celebrated at the Slovak Club, 26 Avery Street, Lisbon Falls, Maine, on January 18, 2020, from noon – 6 p.m.

GARY L. MORRISON

WINSLOW – Gary L. Morrison, 70, of Winslow, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Gary was born May 28, 1949, in Gardiner, son of Andrew and Eva (Hamlin) Morrison.

He was educated in Winslow schools and graduated from Winslow High School in 1968. He went on to graduate from Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute, (CMVTI), in Auburn in 1970 with a degree in automotive technology. On August 8, 1970, Gary married his high school sweetheart, Suzon Hussey.

He worked for Advanced Auto, in Auburn, Lewiston Auto Sales, in Lewiston, and Agway, in Fairfield, before being hired by New England Telephone Company in February 1972 as a mechanic. He retired from the phone company in February 1997 after 25 years of service.

He had his own handyman business for a short time before he went back to school to become an EMT. After he got his EMT license in 1999 he worked for Windsor Ambulance for one year before being hired by Delta Ambulance, in Waterville in 2000. He retired from Delta in November 2015. For the next year or so Gary drove dump truck and tractor trailer, especially enjoying the time he spent on the road with his son, Chad. During all these years Gary remained an on-call firefighter with Winslow Fire Department and was a member of the newly-formed Fire Police Unit and also volunteered as an EMT for the Special Olympics at Sugarloaf for eight years.

Gary is survived by his wife Suzon; his mother Eva Morrison Coombs; special brother of the heart, Mike Henry and wife Terri, of Virginia; foster brother David Christian and wife Jo Jo, of Oregon; brother Terry Morrison and wife Lil, of Madison; half-brothers Anthony Chandler and wife Laura, of Woolwich; Robert Chandler and wife Martha, of Harpswell, and Harold Chandler III, of New Mexico; half-sister Susan Hurley and husband Bill, of California; his sons, Cory Morrison, of Winslow, Michael Morrison and wife Kristi, of Waterville, and Chad Morrison and wife Shannon, of Fairfield; eight grandchildren, Austin Morrison, of Colorado, Brittany Harris and husband Cobey, of Kansas, Amanda Morrison Bonn, of Kansas, Aidan and Nadia Morrison, of Waterville, and Landon, Levi and Liam Morrison, of Fairfield; in-laws Peggy Hussey, of New Hampshire, Tracy Hussey and fiance David, of Winslow, Erin Dyer and husband Scott, of Winslow, Peter Hussey and wife Verna, of Winslow, and Patrick Hussey, of New Hampshire; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, one great-great-nephew and one great-great niece; several cousins.

He was predeceased by his father Andrew Morrison, stepfather Robert Coombs, foster brother Robert Henry, sister-in-law Kelly Pearson, brother-in-law Michael Hussey and granddaughter Avery Rose Morrison.

RANDON C. McKAY

WATERVILLE – Randon “Randy” Chester McKay, 80, passed away, at Oak Grove Center, in Waterville, on Thursday, December 19, 2019. He was born June 11, 1939, at the Long Pond Railway Station, the eldest son of five children to Chester and Joan (Ferland) McKay.

He graduated from Higgins Classical Institute, in 1957, and the New England School of Art, in 1960. In 1979, he married Danielle Campbell, at the Sacred Heart Church, in Waterville. He was employed for many years as a salesman at various stores including leather goods, home goods, wallpaper and paint and retired from JC Penney.
Randy was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, in Waterville, and loved to tinker on radios, TVs and anything he could fix. It didn’t matter what came into Randy’s life, he always was good natured and had a smile on his face. He loved to watch old movies, and especially enjoyed family gatherings. He perceived his “cup as half full.” He was a wonderful person.

He is survived his wife of 40 years, Danielle (Campbell) McKay, of Waterville; two sisters, Merlene Ambulos and husband Nicholas, of Skowhegan, Terry Vioilette and husband William, of Waterville; many nieces, nephews and cousins; an aunt, Beatrice Basil.

He was predeceased by his parents, Chester and Joan (Ferland) McKay; brother, William McKay; and sister, Mona (McKay) Mayhew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 4, 2020, at 11 a.m, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Silver Street, Waterville.

TODD H. HATCH

WINDSOR – Todd Howard Hatch, 54, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019, at his home, in Windsor, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Damariscotta on December 10, 1965, to Kenneth L. Hatch II and Jean (Lewis) McInnis.

He graduated from Erskine Academy, in South China, and worked for Coutt’s Bros. Inc., for 34 years as a lead power lineman. He was a dedicated employee and loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was predeceased by his father Kenneth L. Hatch II.

Todd is survived by his wife of 34 years Deborah A. Hatch; two children, David E. Geschwendt and wife Katie, Matthew T. Hatch and girlfriend Michele Drew; a granddaughter Jubilee; his mother Jean L. McInnis; brothers, sisters and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

CURTIS A. MUELLER

OAKLAND – Curtis A. Mueller, 64, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019. He was born on February 8, 1955, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Arnold and Gladys Mueller.

Curt attended Lutheran High School North, in St. Louis, and Southwestern Missouri State University before completing a bachelor’s degree at Utah State University. For over 30 years, he owned and operated an independent claim adjusting company based in central Maine.

Curt loved the Lord and His Word, and it thrilled him to play bluegrass and gospel music at local churches and nursing homes. For many years, he played the banjo with his family in a band that performed throughout the country.

He enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, exploring his beloved Maine, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his parents Arnold and Gladys; his children, Tom, Annah, Bob, Laura, Sarah, John, and George; four grandchildren; and brothers, Greg and Dan.

Per Curt’s wishes, no service will be held.

BRIAN L. MICHAUD

OAKLAND – Brian Lee Michaud, 56, of Oakland, passed away suddenly while working, on Monday, December 16, 2019. Brian was born on March 18, 1963, at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, the son of Dora and Charles H. Michaud Jr.

Brian graduated from Stearns High School, in Millinocket, in 1981. Following high school, he joined the United States Navy, serving his country with pride. Love of country topped his priority list.

Brian was passive, sweet, funny, and giving. He will be remembered for his hard work ethic and the fact he could fix anything. He was always there to lend a hand for anyone. He was happy to be known as a “red neck” and a proud Trump supporter. Brian was a delivery assistant at NRF, in Augusta, at the time of his death.

Brian was especially proud of his son, Joshua Michaud, for his service in the United States Army and carrying on the family tradition of serving his country. He was looking forward to spending time with him over the holidays.

Brian enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, wrestling with Josh and cousin, Mikey, and spending time with friends and his dogs.

Brian was predeceased by his father, Charles H. Michaud Jr., on August 12, 2006.

Brian is survived by his son Joshua Michaud of Tampa, Florida; mother Dora Michaud, of Oakland; sister Andrea Stevens, of Alaska; brothers, Charles Stevens, of Arizona, and Ed Stevens, of Idaho; his girlfriend Beckey Washburn, of Oakland; uncles, Maynard, Michael and Terry Michaud; also cousins, Beth Michaud-Tillson who was like his little sister, cousins, Mikey, Luigi and Jason Michaud, Vina Walker and Digna Cournoyer; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

ALLEN F. WOOD

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. – Allen Francis Wood, 90, of Zephyrhills, Florida, and formerly of Palermo/ Sidney/ Augusta, passed on the early morning of Sunday, November 17, 2019, at his home in Zephyrhills, following a long illness. Allen was born in China on April 3, 1929, to William (“Bill”) Wood and Dorothy Choate Wood.

After graduating from Walker High School, in Liberty, Allen served four years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Alcona during the Korean War. After his stint in the Navy, he worked for and retired from the state of Maine Department of Transportation, working as the state’s first diesel engine mechanic and then foreman of the state DOT Motor Department, in Augusta. He retired in 1981 but did not stop working until the summer of 2013.

Following his retirement from the state, he worked for White & Bradstreet, in Augusta, and for various persons and garages who needed “expert diesel repair.” He was the author of a book titled What I Know About Engines. In Allen’s spare time, he was a “Jack of All Trades.” He took great pride in the building of houses for him and Gloria and for their son. He was also known for his many talents of crafting, constructing and engineering special gifts for family and friends, such as rocking horses for his grandchildren, rolling pins, bread boards, cutting boards, bird houses, whirlygigs, flag poles, and weathervanes.

He was an avid gardener with a great appreciation for watching things grow and then harvesting, canning, freezing the fruits of his labor. He enjoyed tapping maple trees and collecting and boiling down the sap into maple syrup.

Allen loved to dance and his motto was “Skip the Nursing Home. Die Dancing.” And he did dance, several nights a week until the Fall of 2018 He was very proud of his family and loved having them all together for lots of conversation, laughter, bantering, discussions about life and often concluded the discussions with “Now just think about that for a minute.” He was a great supporter of his kids, grandkids, great-grandkids in their many endeavors in life.

There will be no funeral services at this time. His body will be cremated; and his wish was “to go in the ocean and swim to France to dance with the girls there.”

His siblings were Harry Franklin Wood, Rachel Wood Sheaff, and Jeannette Wood Scates. His sister Jeannette survives him. Allen is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gloria Hannan Wood, of Zephyrhills; their children, Allen Ross Wood, of Sidney, Sally Mae Bolduc and her husband Joseph, of Daytona Beach, Florida, and Mary Lou Ester Lane and her husband Richard, of Augusta, and Mission, Texas; six grandchildren, Heather Hopkins, Michele Dunn and her husband Matthew, Bethany Battistone, Rebecca Bolduc, Christopher Neptune and wife Melanie, Matthew Lane and wife Erin.; great-grandchildren Reed and Abby Hopkins, Marek and Maren Battistone, Mason Bolduc, Charlotte and Amelia Dunn, Kaitlyn, Richard, and Kristin Neptune, Alonzo Connor (Paige), Brandi Grady, Madeleine, Matthew, Jr., and Meredith Lane; and great-great-grandchildren, Derrick and Skylynn Neptune and Jaydyn Simmons.

RONALD D. KERSHNER

WATERVILLE – Ronald Dexter Kershner, 78, Waterville, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2019, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Augusta. He was born October 16, 1941, in Farmington.

Ron graduated from Bingham High in 1959. He enlisted in the Army in 1964, and was honorably discharged in 1966. He was stationed in Korea and Okinawa, Japan.

Ron began working for Scott Paper (later Kimberly Clark), in Winslow, in the early ‘80s and was there for about 16 years. He worked his way up from facilities and maintenance to working in the boiler room as an engineer, where he had the responsibility of ensuring that the mill did not explode.

While his sons were growing up, they spent time together hunting and fishing. They also made sure to see every Star Wars movie as soon as it came out, instilling a love of all things sci-fi.

With wife Judy, he enjoyed driving and traveling. They explored the east coast and loved the beaches of North Carolina.

Ron was a proud member of the Elks Lodge, in Waterville, where he liked to call the Beano games. He never turned down the opportunity to debate historical events; he cheered for local high school athletes with gusto; and he loved reading, especially novels about the old west by Louis L’Amour. He was also very social and met up for coffee with his regulars to chat daily.

He is survived by sons Daniel Kershner (wife Stacie) and Trever (girlfriend Lauren Chan); grandchildren Hollyn, Weston and Ari, as well as girlfriend Nancy Johnston; brother Terrance (wife Renee); nieces and nephews, stepchildren; and step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents George Crosby and Eloise (True) Kershner and stepfather Roland Kershner; his eldest son Anthony, wife Judy (Godbout), sister Kathy Doucette and brother Rodney.

ROWENA M. WITHAM

OAKLAND – Rowena M. Witham, 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at Oak Grove Center, in Waterville. Rowena was born on September 1, 1924, in Plymouth, New Hampshire, to Wendell Richardson and Katie (Robie) Alton.

Rowena grew up in Harmony and graduated from Harmony High School with the class of 1942. She resided in Oakland for most of her life working at the Diamond Match Company, in Oakland, for 36 years. Rowena will be remembered for her spit fire personality and quick wit and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She loved going out to eat with her family and enjoyed the many boat rides around China Lake.

She is survived by her sons, David Witham and Donna, of Sidney, and Robert Witham and Karleen, of Philadelphia, New York; her daughters, Lori Witham and wife Wanda Hoffmann, of Dover, New Hampshire, and Joyce Savage, of Hudson, Florida; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Connie Rowe, whom she enjoyed many excursions and activities with.

Rowena was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Harold; her son, Ricky; her grandson, Timothy Foye; her son-in-law, Wallace Savage; her siblings, Edward Richardson, Frank “Fred” Alton Jr, Harry Alton, George Alton, Carroll (Cad) Alton, Eugene and twin Emogene Alton, and Marie Alton; and sister, Velma Gibbs.

WEEKS MILLS – Roscoe “Ross” Pelton Jr., 82, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 23, 2019, following a long illness. He was born in Waterville on May 5, 1937, the son of Roscoe Sr. and Bertha (Brooks) Pelton.

He graduated from Erskine Academy, in South China in 1956. After working at Fairbairn Equipment, in Augusta, he operated Ross Small Engine, on Route 3, in Weeks Mills. He coached Little League baseball for several years. After serving in ministries at Weeks Mills Baptist Church, he attended Glen Cove Bible College for two years and graduated from New Brunswick Bible Institute in 1981. After graduating he pastored for over 20 years in South Gardiner and South Monmouth Baptist churches.

Ross is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pauline (Breton) Pelton, of Weeks Mills; a son, Dr. Randal (Michele) Pelton, of Mount Joy, Pennsylvania; a daughter, Anita (Leon Sr.) Whitmore, of West Gardiner; grandchildren, Caleb (Pam), Benjamin, Seth, Leon Jr., Moriah (Jacob), Michael, and Amanda (Eric); great-grandchildren, Logan and Ivy; his brother, Gerald (Pat) Pelton, of Weeks Mills; sisters, Betty (Herb) Flint, of Weeks Mills, and Sandra Curtis, of Augusta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

CECILE T. GAGNE

AUGUSTA – Cecile Theresa (Theriault) Gagne, 71, of Augusta, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019. Cecile fought a courageous battle of cancer over the last 15 years but, has lost the battle to ovarian cancer. She was born June 1, 1948, in Augusta, to the daughter of Wilfred & Cecile Louise (Blais) Theriault.

Her father Wilfred passed away when she was young. Omer “Babe” Maheux, her mother’s second husband raised her like she was his own.

On May 2 1970, she married Robert “Bob” Gagne, in Augusta. She was employed for many years at Augusta General Medical Center, in the O.R. dept., where she made many lifelong friends. She was a member of St. Augustine Parish, in Augusta. Cecile was known for her kindness and generosity. She loved to crochet special blankets that she would give away to show her love. She enjoyed crafts, painting and shopping. Cecile was known to be a “jack of all trades” kind of woman. Her most favorite past time was being with her family, especially her two grandchildren, Vanessa and Jamison, who were the light of her life.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Robert “Bob” Gagne, of Augusta; son, Michael Gagne, of Sidney; daughter, Cheryl (Gagne) Bragdon and husband Tobby, of Augusta; one granddaughter, Vanessa Bragdon and one grandson, Jamison Bragdon, both of Augusta; a step-grandson, T.J. Bragdon and a step-granddaughter Amanda (Craig) Ray; two sisters, Laurette Minoty and husband Richard, of Augusta, Rita Ellis, of Augusta; brother, Richard “Zeke” Theriault and wife June, of Augusta; many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

She was predeceased by her parents and two sisters, Claire (Pomerleau) Poulin and Doris (Lajoie) Marquis.

At the request of Cecile, a private mass of Christian burial will be held in December at the St. Augustine Chapel then later buried at the V.A. Cemetery.

JAMES E. LAJOIE

WATERVILLE – James E. Lajoie, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 2, 2019. He was born December 16, 1932, in Eagle Lake, the son of Leon Lajoie and Alma (Bouchard) Lajoie.

He proudly served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army, where he received a Korean Service medal, a United Nations medal and a National Defense Service medal.

His love for farming was evident in his tenure at Rossignol’s Dairy Farm as a herdsman. He loved to tinker with machines and mechanical projects throughout his life but especially during his employment at Mid-State Machine and Sukee Arena, both in Winslow, (known as the Zamboni man).

He was a dedicated member of Corpus Christi Parish, Winslow VFW MacCrillis-Rousseau Post #8835, Waterville Knights of Columbus and Waterville American Legion Bourque-Lanigan Post #5. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend whose heart showed in his every day actions.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 36 years and mother of his children, Jacqueline (Plourde) Lajoie, Marion (Murkas) Lajoie of 25 years, a sister Patsy (Lajoie) Pelletier, a brother John Lajoie and grandson Jarod Kervin.

He is survived by his sons Elmer Lajoie and wife Anne, of Hooksett, New Hampshire, Brian Lajoie and wife Torrie, of Vassalboro, Donald Lajoie and wife Cheryl, of Winslow; daughters Ann (Lajoie) Brooks and husband Colen, of Oakland, Irene (Lajoie) Plourde and husband Donald, of Sidney, Sandra (Lajoie) Kervin and husband Edward, of Port Charlotte. GEORGE S. GOODWIN SR.

BENTON – George S. Goodwin Sr., 77, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at Mount Saint Joseph Residence and Rehabilitation, in Waterville. He was born in Waterville, December. 9, 1942, the son of Horace E. and Victoria M. (Flood) Goodwin.

Before entering the nursing home, George (Steve) lived on the River Road in Benton, where he devoted his life working as a dairy farmer at Goodwin Farms, a sixth-generation family run farm for over 200 years. The land where Goodwin Farms is located was granted to his ancestor, Stephen Goodwin, in exchange for help in building Fort Halifax. George had a love for animals and farming, and was very proud of his family and heritage. He will be fondly remembered for all his stories, jokes, and “isms” that gave great joy and laughter to all. He definitely left his “foot print” for all to remember.

He is survived by his four children, Tamara G. Smith, and her husband Matthew, of Richmond, Tina M. Leclerc and her husband Jeffrey, of Sidney, George S. Goodwin Jr., of New Gloucester, and Annette L. Steward and her husband Joshua, of Smithfield; his two sisters, Jane Chee, of Biddeford, and Priscilla St. Louis, of Rangeley; nine grandchildren, Jeffrey C., Casey J., and Matthew S. Smith, Alyssa L. and Shane E. Davis, Myles C. and Masyn D. Goodwin, Dalton J. and Jacob J. Steward; great granddaughter, Braelynn M. Davis; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

SMITHFIELD – Grace L. Stockford, 89, of Smithfield, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. She was born in Smithfield on June 25, 1930, the daughter of the late Joseph and Lucy (Rowe) Dudley.

Grace attended Williams High School, in Oakland. She was a very hard worker, being employed by Bear Spring Camps, in Rome, working for Dr. Howard Hill, in Belgrade, Mrs. Brown, in Waterville, and Norwalk Shoe Company.

She married Robert “Bob” L. Stockford, and the couple enjoyed many wonderful years together until his passing in 2000.

Grace loved to dance, and enjoyed caring for her plants and flowers, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Besides her parents, and her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Pearl Wilde, Lucille Wilde, Clara Moody, and Elevena Yeaton; her brother, Roland Dudley; her granddaughter, Sadie True; and her son-in-law, David A. Brown.

WALLACE R. HALL JR.

WINDSOR – Wallace “Wally” Richard Hall Jr, 62, of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at Maine Medical Center, in Portland. He was born March 15, 1957, to Wallace and Kathleen Hall.

Wally was one of 12 children. He attended East Hampton High and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps. In 1980, Wally moved from Connecticut to Windsor with his father and siblings to manage Lipman Poultry Farms. He met the love of his life Gail in 1981 and they married in 1985. He had his daughter Danielle in 1987 which he often shared as one of the proudest moments in his life. He was a family man who loved being a husband, a father and most recently a proud grandfather to his “buddy” Nash.

He worked 25 years as a machine operator at Maine Poly and later as a Transportation Aid for the state Department of Transportation. Wally was known as a hard-working man who enjoyed working with his hands. You would often find him making well-houses, mowing his lawn, cutting and stacking wood or just tinkering on something. If he wasn’t tinkering on something he was riding his motorcycle with his wife, father, daughter and friends often riding to his favorite spot, Pemaquid Point.

He loved spending time with “the girls” his beloved dogs Sheba and Kenzy. He enjoyed and appreciated the simple things that life had to offer.

Wally was an honest, kind, loyal, strong and loving man. He was the first to offer help but never expected it in return. He made friends wherever he went. Strangers became friends and friends became family. He had no quit – it was all grit. He loved big and deep. His love had no boundaries, no expectations and was always expressed genuinely. The world was a better place with him in it.

He was predeceased by his parents Wallace and Kathleen Hall; sisters Laura Oliger and Sharon Hall.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Gail; his daughter Danielle Sherwood and her husband Eric; his grandson Nash; brothers and sisters, Tim, Mark, Lenny, Mike, Colleen, Carol, Charlene, Doreen and Vicky; many brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2019, at noon located at the American Legion Post #179, 78 Legion Memorial Drive, South China. A private burial will be held in the spring.

FAIRFIELD – Mark A. Trial, 57, passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. Mark was born September 18, 1962, in Skowhegan, son of Shirley (Quinn) Trial and Peter Trial.

He went to high school in Madison, graduating in 1981.

Mark spent the last years working at J.S. McCarthy, in Augusta. He had a massive work family including his work wife, Ann. Before J.S. McCarthy, he spent numerous years at Huhtamaki, in Waterville. He loved spending time with his granddaughter Jerika, shopping on the weekends and eating at Ming Lee Chinese Restaurant, in Waterville. Mark had an undying love for the Patriots, Trump, and his kids. In no particular order.

Mark was predeceased by his mother, Shirley, his father, Peter; his sister, Ann Marie; his nephew, Lance; and his beloved dog, Nikki Moon.

GEORGE D. HORTON JR.

SIDNEY – George David Horton Jr., passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019, at Togus VA Hospital. He was born in Pleasantville, New Jersey, to George and Kathryn (Beckman) Horton, both predeceased.

He graduated from Oakcrest High School and attended Rutgers University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, serving in Japan as a communications technician under the Security Group Command. Upon his return to the states, he met Linda (Hickman) Horton, proposed to her two weeks later, and got married just three months after that in 1974.

He was a police officer in South Jersey until he and his family moved up to Aroostook County in 1990. Often referred to as his favorite job, he assisted in teaching the tree harvesting and outdoor power equipment programs to high schoolers at Southern Aroostook Community School. He later became manager of Northern Katahdin Valley Waste Disposal District where he worked for 17 years.

He enjoyed spending time at his camp with his family, fishing and hunting with his father and friends, gardening and NASCAR. Once their first grandchild was born, George and Linda decided to retire and move to Sidney to be closer to their daughter and granddaughter.

George is survived by his wife, Linda, of 45 years; their daughter, Desiree (Horton) Willigar and her children, Sophia and Mason, all of Sidney; his sister, Kathy Wiggins, niece, Lorraine Ingraham (Pete), and nephew, Dustin Orr (Jessie), all of Linneus; his aunts who reside in New Jersey and Maine.

WINSLOW – Jean Weed Victory passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 17, 2019. She was born November 6, 1966, in Calais, the daughter of Raymond R. Weed and Sylvia S. Ryder.

She was a beautiful person and had so much to offer life. Jean was a wonderful mother, daughter, and sister. She was a talented and accomplished artist having won several awards and ribbons for her work. Jean was very attached to her little Chihuahua, Lita, and most of the time they were inseparable.

Jean lived in Maine most of her life but graduated from Rome High School, in Rome, New York. She earned an associates degree at Centralia College, in Olympia, Washington, while serving as a receptionist for the Department of Education, in Olympia. She worked several years for MBNA, in Belfast, and also earned a bachelors degree with honors from the University of Maine at Augusta.

Jean is survived by her father, Raymond Weed; mother, Sylvia Ryder; siblings, Robin Weed, Lindsey Moody; son Cameron Victory; and nephews and nieces, Brendan Weed, Marisa Giggey, Kiersten Weed, Evan Moody and Brice Moody.

A public memorial service will be held at the Stonington Methodist Church, Stonington, Maine on Saturday, November 30, at 11 a.m.

MILLICENT H. THOMPSON

CHELSEA – Millicent Hazel (Farrington) Thompson, 67, of Chelsea, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2019, at her home. Millie was born in Waterville on May 27, 1952, the daughter of Milton and Jane (Reed) Farrington.

Millie graduated from Erskine Academy, in South China, in 1970, where she enjoyed playing basketball and met the love of her life, Daniel Thompson. In her early adult years she worked at her parents store, Mickey’s Market, where she developed her passion for cooking and feeding others. Millie’s greatest accomplishments were her sons Mickey and Dan. She went on to become a car salesman and worked for Wiscasset Ford for 27 years.

She enjoyed performing shows at the Elks. Her greatest retirement pastime was cooking with her grandbabies, Livi and Laurali. She also loved, canning, shopping, puzzles, cooking for her boys Nicholas and Dan, hosting family parties, and spoiling all her grandkids for Christmas.

She is predeceased by her dad Mickey Farrington, her son Mickey Thompson, her brother-in-law Barry Lee and her in-laws John and Norma Thompson.

Millie is survived by her husband, Daniel Thompson, her mother Jane Farrington. Her son Daniel Thompson II and wife Britney; her grandchildren Nicholas and his girlfriend Julia, Ricky, Landon, Liviann, and Laurali; sister Mindy Lee; her younger sister Polly Boynton and her husband Pete; her sisters-in-law Cathy Wheeler and Tanya Wallace; brother-in-law Jack Thompson and wife Barbie; nieces and nephews.

CORNVILLE – Patricia Ann Hayden, 81, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2019, due to kidney failure. She was born on March 9, 1938, in Madison, to Ralph “Pearly” and Stella Gilcott (Lessard).

She attended and graduated from Madison High School. She was married to Robert Hayden on August 16, 1958.

For many years Patricia worked outside the home in many locations: Box factory, in Skowhegan, State Hospital, in Augusta, as an aide, Thayer Hospital, in Waterville, as an aide, and at Solon Manufacturing, in Skowhegan, then finally becoming a house wife.

Patricia is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert Hayden; her three sons and daughter and their spouses, Michael and Penny Hayden, Mitchell and Laurie Hayden, Mark and Sandra Hayden, Pastor Michael Abbott and Penny-Lynn; five grandchildren, Melissa Warren, Emily Smith, Megan Hayden, Bayley Hayden and Hunter Hayden; six great-grandchildren, Kayden, Sophie, Axel and Slator Smith, Makayla and Charlie Warren; sister-in-law, Cindy Gilcott, brother-in-law, Frank Bushey Sr.; nephews, Frank Bushey II and Ralph Gilcott III; nieces, Shelby Bolstridge and Danielle Turner; special friend and cousin, James Hayden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph ‘Pearly” and Stella Gilcott; in-laws, David and Helen Simpson; sister Judith Bushey; brothers, Ralph Gilcott II and Robert Gilcott; daughter-in-law, Cindy Hayden; grandson, Corey Hayden.

PALERMO – John R. Carroll, 42, of North Palermo Road, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 19, 2019. He was born in Augusta on April 26, 1977, the son of Robert and Diane (Severence) Carroll.

John graduated from Erskine Academy, in South China, class of 1996. He had worked as a small engine mechanic for Hartz Lawn and Garden, in Augusta, and later pursued a career in the medical and mental health field. John worked at Up Lift Industries and most recently as an Acuity Specialist for Riverview Psychiatric Center.

John enjoyed target shooting and on line gaming. His favorite games were Boom Beach and Empire. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, Kevin Carroll.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Carroll of Palermo; two sons, D.J. Carroll and his wife, Jessica, of Jefferson, and Aaron Carroll and his wife, Amber, of Augusta; his grandchildren, Liam, Killian and Ariya; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

DOROTHY G. COOK

BELGRADE – Dorothy G. Cook, 99, died Tuesday afternoon, November 19, 2019, at Mount Saint Joseph, in Waterville, where she had been since April of this year. She was born December 24, 1919, in Sidney, daughter of Malon and Rose (Norton) Tracy.

She grew up in Oakland with her two sisters, Charlotte and Glennis, and her brother, Malon. She graduated from Williams High School, in Oakland, in 1937, at the age of 17, and a year later went to Thomas Business School, in Waterville, graduating in 1939.

In 1941, Dorothy married Ernest A. Cook, of Belgrade, and they raised their five daughters on the farm in North Belgrade. Dorothy and her husband were very active in the Salmon Lake Grange.

Dorothy became a faithful member of Faith Community Church, in North Belgrade, and was treasurer for several years. She loved and worshipped her Lord and Savior.

She loved to read and was a very avid reader all her life. As her children grew older, Dorothy worked for over 20 years in the office at Hathaway Shirt Company, in Waterville, retiring in 1981. She then moved back from the farm to Oakland where she lived for 20 years. Dorothy also lived for 20 years in an apartment at her daughter, Laurel and her son-in-law Ted’s residence. She later moved to Manchester to be with her daughter, Sylvia. She enjoyed baking cookies for her grandchildren and when they came to visit, she passed out her cookies. The children soon came to call her “Grammy Cookie.”

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband; parents; both sisters; daughter Laurel Wadleigh; and grandson David Wadleigh.

She is survived her daughters, Judith Emmons and husband Roger, of Belgrade, Sylvia Webb and husband Clyde, of Manchester, Anita Merrow and husband Eugene, of Belgrade, and Cathy Dodge, of Fairfield; 13 grandchildren, Stuart, Derek, Jason, Bethany, Eben, Nathan, Stephen, Christopher, Michael, Melissa, Craig, Timothy, and Abbie; 32 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Malon Tracy; son-in-law, Ted Wadleigh, of Belgrade; a niece, Barbara Cook; and several other nieces and nephews.

Burial will be held in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, in Belgrade.

RABBIE RAYMOND KRINSKY

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND. – Rabbi Raymond Krinsky, 93, of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.

He was a person of impeccable integrity, sterling character, and humility who devoted his life to helping others as a spiritual leader, educator, community volunteer, loving husband, and devoted father.

He was a graduate of City College of New York and the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS), in Manhattan, New York. His rabbinical career spanned more than 50 years. Highlights include serving our country as a Jewish chaplain and first lieutenant in the United State Air Force during the Korean War, for 16 years concurrently serving as Hillel Director at the University of Virginia and the rabbi of Temple Beth Israel, in Charlottesville, Virginia. For nearly 30 years, Rabbi Krinsky concurrently served as the rabbi of Temple Beth Israel in Waterville, Maine, and the first Jewish Chaplian, at Colby College, in Waterville. He also was an instructor of Hebrew at Colby College and previously taught at the Piedmont Virginia Community College.

Rabbi Krinsky was active in many interfaith and civic endeavors on behalf of the communities he served. Rabbi Krinsky was an active member of the Rotary Club, and was the recipient of numerous commendations for his civic and spiritual contributions to the communities he served. Among these were a citation from the Commission of the Jewish Chaplaincy of the National Jewish Welfare Board in recognition his distinguished service as an armed forces chaplain and a citation from the city of Waterville, Maine, in recognition of his commitment to the interests of the city

Rabbi Krinsky was predeceased by his wife, Sidelle Jaffee Krinsky.

He is survived by his children, Philip Andrew Krinsky (Wendy Dinner), William Eric (Jori) Krinsky, and Robert Bruce Krinsky (M. Robyn Katz).

OAKLAND – Madeline Louise Pooler, 84, of Oakland passed away peacefully, after a long illness, on Tuesday, October 29, 2019. She was born in Waterville on December 30, 1935, the daughter of Norbert A. and Marie Belle (Bolduc) Rancourt.

On August 9, 1952, she married Harold T. Pooler, of Waterville, spending the next 60 years together.

Madeline loved to have her family and friends near. She enjoyed hosting many family gatherings. She was an active member of the community, participating in clubs and volunteering for many organizations. She regularly volunteered for the MaineGeneral Doll Factory. She was a member of the Exchangettes Club/Caring Friends, Newborns In Need, The Kennebelles and Red Hat Society.

She was an avid knitter and quilter. Her family’s favorite gifts were her hand-knit socks, hats and mittens. She spent time making clothing, blankets, hats and mittens for Newborns In Need.

Madeline was predeceased by her husband, Harold T. Pooler; parents Norbert A. and Marie Belle Rancourt; brothers Richard, Francis, Wilbur, John and Frederick Rancourt; sisters Justine Fisher, Jeannette Harding, Dorothy Fisher, Gloria Floyd; and stepmother, Grace Ames Rancourt.

CHELSEA – Merle E. Geroux, 86, of Eastern Avenue, died Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at Alfond Center for Health, in Augusta. He was born in Jefferson on January 30, 1933, the son of Joseph E. Geroux and Elsie N. (Weaver) Geroux.

Mr. Geroux served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was self-employed as an auto mechanic for many years.

ANNE M. BOWE

WINSLOW – Anne Marie Bowe, 70, of Winslow, passed onto the Lord, Wednesday, October 30, 2019, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Concord, New Hampshire, on March 26, 1949, the daughter of Lewis and Anna Bowe.

After graduating from Falmouth High School, Anne went on to get her nursing degree. She married Bernard H. Gauthier in 1969 and together had three sons and three stepdaughters; Sherri Gauthier, of Oakland, Lee Falconer, of Waterville, and Debbie Bedard, of Etna.

Anne spent many years working as a nurse in various local facilities, including Mount St. Joseph, in Waterville, and Klearview Manor, in Fairfield. She also worked as a psychiatric nurse for Mid-Maine Medical Center, in Waterville, for 15 years. She enjoyed family time, crafting, shopping and writing poetry.

Anne is survived by three sons, Eric Gauthier and wife Noreen, of Benton, Mark Gauthier and wife Heather, of Fairfield, and Matthew Gauthier, of Augusta; two brothers, Robert Bowe and wife Dottie, of Freeport, and Michael Bowe and wife Mary, of Sabago; aunt, Jeanne Spyrka and husband Tony, of Woonsocket, Rhode Island; two granddaughters, Allie and Kylie Gauthier, both of Oakland; and four nephews, Timothy Bowe, Scott Bowe, Daniel Bowe and Joshua Bowe.

ROBERT J. WRANOSKY

CHINA VILLAGE – On Wednesday, October 30, 2019, Robert “Bob” J. Wranosky Sr., 82, passed away in his home following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, on February 4, 1937, to John and Joan “Eunice” Wranosky.

He graduated Oconto Falls High School in 1955 and began working at Scott Paper Company, in Winslow. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1961. After being discharged from the Army, he returned to Scott Paper Company, later named Kimberly Clark, and worked for 46 years and he continued contract work until 2018.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He was never one that would sit around, always “putzing” with something whether it was cutting firewood, trimming his cedar hedges, or working on house projects. He was a do-it-yourselfer. During the summer, Bob loved riding his Sea-doo on China Lake and in the winter, you could see him riding his Ski-doo or swishing down slopes at Sunday River, in Bethel. Bob was well known around town for his bright red Dodge Ram truck with the Hemi written on the side.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years Marcia; two sons, Robert Wranosky Jr., of Wheatfield, Indiana, and Thomas (Dawn) Wranosky, of Crown Point, New York; daughter Susan McConnell (Matt), of Tallahassee, Florida; stepdaughter Melissa Richardson of West Point, Virginia; sister Catherine (Larry) Kolkowski of Sampson, Wisconsin; two brothers, Leonard (Diane) Wranosky, of Columbiaville, Michigan, and Francis (Debbie) Wranosky, of Oconto Falls, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Meghan Wranosky, Courtney Wranosky, Tyler Wranosky, Monica Black and Mark Black II; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

CLYDE F. MOSHER

VASSALBORO – Clyde F. Mosher, 91, passed away peacefully at the Maine Veterans Home, in Augusta, on Sunday, October 27, 2019. Clyde was born February 26, 1928, in Bristol, New Hampshire to Verne B. and Marian (Hubbard) Mosher.

He was the oldest of the three Mosher boys; Clyde, Bruce and Robert.

Clyde graduated from Bristol High School in 1945 and entered the US Army Air Force where he served with honor until August 1947.

At the Maine Veterans Home, Clyde was comforted by the caring and devoted staff. Always at his side was his wife of 48 years Elizabeth (Betty) Mosher. Betty’s daughter Donna Hadsell with husband Robert blessed Clyde with the gift of a true extended family. He’s remembered for his hard work, commitment, kindness and a sweet smile. He taught Donna how to drive a stick shift, stop on a steep hill and then start up and go over the hill just like he did through good and sometimes challenging times. Clyde loved nature, especially camping and teaching everyone in his extended family how to fish.

Clyde loved baseball, of course, the Red Sox, and he played for the Bristol team until in the summer of 19 51 when he broke a leg sliding into second base. Daughter Melanie Ann Mosher arrived in November 1951 and Clyde somehow drove to the delivery room in Franklin despite a leg cast and a blinding snowstorm. The route to Franklin he knew by heart after 10 years working as a milkman for Giles dairy delivering fresh dairy.

Customers knew Clyde as a man they could trust with open doors. Melanie and older brother Michael Mosher grew up thinking their father invented take your children to work day. Daddy frequently brought them along in the milk truck to enjoy an ice cream treat.

In Alexandria, New Hampshire, Clyde was a selectman and enjoyed one annual task: to hike Mt. Cardigan and mark the town boundary. A volunteer fireman, his garage became base for the Alexandria fire department.

Clyde’s career moved to selling insurance for John Hancock Insurance in Laconia, New Hampshire. In 1964 he became sales manager in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and the family moved to North Berwick. He was promoted to district manager in Augusta, and retired in 1986. But not for long as John Hancock wanted him back to supervise instruction in Portland. In 2000 he settled in Vassalboro with Betty to pursue some fishing and their passion to provide guidance, comfort and joy to the extended family who now mourn his loss but cherish the memories.

In 2002, Clyde suffered the tragic loss of his son, Christopher Kevin Mosher, of Wells, and step-son, Michael Stevens, of Somersworth, New Hampshire, died in 2013.

CLARENCE SPAULDING JR.

WATERVILLE – Clarence E. Spaulding Jr., 78, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019, following battling several severe health issues, at Northern Light Inland Hospital, in Waterville. Clarence was born the son of Clarence Sr. and Virginia Spaulding on October 31, 1941, in Caratunk.

Clarence was known for his quick and sarcastic humor. He had a seemingly endless knowledge of everything, an eccentric vocabulary and conversation manor. He would read the encyclopedia for fun, draw, and could tell you every random fact about every train to ever exist. He was a member of the clan Murray Scottish society, as well as the Wiscasset Narrow Gauge Railway.

Clarence was a salesman for many years for Morgan Lumber Company and worked several years as a salesman for L’Heureux Oil Company.

Clarence was predeceased by his parents, Clarence Sr. and Virginia Spaulding; son Greg Spaulding, son Scott Spaulding; and great grandchild Magnolia.

He is survived by his life partner, Vicki LaBrie; his sister Barbara J; eldest daughter Beverly Frost; son-in-law Everett Frost; son Brian Spaulding and daughter-in–law Pamela Spaulding, and his daughter-in-law Erica Spaulding; his grandchildren, Derek, Amber, Chellsye, Samantha, Jonathan, Ashley, Mary and Emma; great-grandchildren, Viola, Carter and Nathanial.

LT. COL. JOHN W. CLARK SR.

SIDNEY – Lt. Col. John Winston Clark Sr. (MSP Ret.), 74, died Thursday, October 31, 2019, at his home in Sidney. John was born in Gardiner on December 26, 1944, the third child of Walter A. and (Eva) Janet Clark.

He graduated from Gardiner Area High School in 1963 and received an A.S. degree in criminal justice and a B.S. degree in public administration from the University of Maine.

John graduated from the Maine State Police Academy in 1967 and was assigned to patrol the Damariscotta area of Troop D. He was promoted to corporal in 1973, and assigned to the traffic division at headquarters, in Augusta. He was promoted to sergeant in 1975, and assigned to chief of executive security for Governor James B. Longley. In 1979, he was promoted to lieutenant and became the commander of the traffic and safety division and also served as the liaison for the Bureau of State Police with the Maine Legislature. In 1983, he was promoted to Lt. Col., Deputy Chief of the Maine State Police. He served in that capacity for four years and retired in 1987.

In 1988, he became the executive vice president of the Maine Insurance Agents Association, in Augusta. He served in that capacity for 21 years, serving on several National Association Committees and was President of the National Independent Agents Association Executives in 2000/2001. He fully retired in September 2009.

He loved the outdoors and hunting and fishing in Argyle and Rangeley. He was a member of The Masons Hermon Lodge #32, in Gardiner, SAM, West Gardiner Rod and Gun Club, Rangeley, Guides and Sportsman’s Association, Arnold Trail Sportsman’s Association, NRA, AHOG, and actively supported the Maine Special Olympics for many years. He enjoyed his time spent with Peggy at their camp in Rangeley and riding their Harley-Davidson motorcycle; particularly their trips to South Dakota and Wyoming, and the many rides with friends in the AHOG Chapter and at the State HOG Rallies. He also loved to attend the many activities of his 13 grandchildren, which ranged from dance to hockey.

John was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Herman F. Clark, and his sister, Janice Plaisted.

He is survived by his wife Peggy; his daughter, Angela Clark, of Gardiner; his son John Jr. and his wife Jill, and their four children, Kristen and her husband, Derick and their son Jacob and daughter Madeline, of Litchfield, Matthew and his fiancée, Morgan Carver, Joseph and Lillian, of West Gardiner, his youngest daughter Jenny Hickey and her husband Will, and their three sons, Nicholas Maschino, his fiancée, Sadie Gosse and their daughter MacKeil, Scott Hickey and his girlfriend, Libbie Williams, and Cody Hickey, his fiancée Mikaela Sleeper and their daughters, Delanie and Addison, all of West Gardiner; his stepson Benjamin Foster and his wife Karen, and their children Madison, Lily and Ben, of Waterville, and his stepson, Jared Foster and his wife Lisa, and their three children Jenessa, Jaxson and Easton, of Palmyra.

MARY C. GOTT

FAIRFIELD – Mary Catherine Gott, 77, passed away peacefully at home, following a brief illness, on Saturday, November 2, 2019. Born July 27, 1942, in New Haven, Connecticut, Mary was the daughter of Gerald and Muriel (Hill) Cremin.

She attended New Haven area schools, and moved to Richmond in 1976.

In the 1980s, Mary spent her workdays running the family fish market, Salt Waterville Seafood, in Fairfield. In the 1990s, they sold the market and Mary went to work at Marden’s, in Waterville. She retired from Marden’s in 2013.

Mary made friends everywhere she went and was known for being just as feisty and fun-loving, as she was generous and kindhearted. She loved going for motorcycle rides with George. They spent many summers at Abenaki Campground and at York County Campground. Mary was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #14, in Fairfield, and a longtime supporter of the Humane Society Waterville Area. Mary and George were longtime members of the Maine Academy of Country Music and enjoyed many Country Sunday’s with friends and family.

Mary was predeceased by her parents; her husband, George; her grandson Richard “RJ” Costa, of Vermont; and her brother, Jeremiah “Jay” Cremin, of Belchertown, Massachusetts.

She is survived by daughter Constance Costa of Branford, Connecticut; daughter Diane (Willis) Carter, of Minneola, Florida; son Norman (Kimberly) Ambrose, of Auburn; stepson Michael Gott, of Waterville; stepdaughter Debra (Dean) Billings, of Pittsfield; grandchildren James Ambrose, of New Britain, Connecticut, James Groves, Kristifer Groves, Dylan (Amber) Ambrose, and Justin Ambrose, of Maine; seven great-grandchildren.

Mary had requested the family forego a funeral and instead “throw (her) a party.” Family and friends are invited to Grover Hinkley American Legion Post #14, 86 Upper Main St, Fairfield, ME, on Saturday, November 23, from noon to six p.m., for live music and light refreshments.

McKENZIE M. HAVER

WATERVILLE – McKenzie Meghan Haver, 20, from Waterville, passed away unexpectedly at Maine Mdical Center, in Portland, on Friday, November 4, 2019, from a Congenital Heart condition. Born May 4, 1999, in Belfast, she was the daughter of Michelle (Pearse) Kelley and Steven Haver. She graduated from Erskine Academy, in South China.

To her family she was Lulu and to everyone she was a fighter. Behind that sweet smile and quiet manner was a sarcastic, witty sense of humor that came out of nowhere and caused one to sit back and wonder what just happened and when it would happen next. She accepted and faced the challenges of her medical conditions, but refused to accept their limitations.Her biggest accomplishment was being a mother to her little boy, she loved every moment of it. He stole her heart and was her entire world.

McKenzie is survived by her mother and bonus dad Michelle and John Kelley; father Steven Haver; significant other Austin Ayotte; son Jaxon Ayotte; brother Justin Haverand sister-in-law Amber Fuller; sister Domonique Haver and brother-in-law Kyle Stetson; sister Kayleigh Haver; bonus siblings, Acadia, Kineo and Camden; nieces Hayley and Kamryn; nephew Aidyn; In-laws Patrick and Sharon Ayotte and Robert and Barbie Petkers; grandparents Paul and Alice PearseAnderson, Dakota Flagg and Laura and Ed Heroux.

SARAH C. BEAN

SIDNEY – Sarah C. Bean, 92, of Sidney, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2019, following a brief illness. Sarah was born in Effingham, New Hamp­shire, on September 3, 1927, to Charles and Viola Clark.

Her father passed when Sarah was only eight years old and his death was a defining moment in her life, causing her to have great compassion for those who faced similar loss. She and her two siblings continued to live in her beloved home in Freedom, New Hampshire, until her teenage years when her mother married Merle Thompson and she moved to East Dixfield. After graduating from high school at Wilton Academy, she spent three years studying at Providence Bible Institute, in Providence, Rhode Island. At PBI, her strong faith was cemented as she trained to study and teach the Word of God.

Sarah married Charles E. Bean on September 10, 1948, and eagerly adjusted to life as a farmer’s wife. She became active at West Sidney Baptist Church, serving and teaching Sunday School, Daily Vacation Bible School, and Bible studies. Through all the days of her life, she continued teaching Scripture and most recently had an active Bible study in her home.

From the time she went to first grade, Sarah always wanted to be a teacher. She began working toward her teaching degree in 1966, taking a few credit hours at a time. Sarah began her teaching career on a provisional certificate and graduated from University of Maine in 1973 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught at Mount Vernon Elementary School for 20 years, and after retiring, she taught grandchildren and great grandchildren at “Gramma’s School.”

She is survived by her four children, Edward Bean and wife Donna, of Sidney, Ruth Brendle and husband Dave, of Sanford, Florida, Calvin Bean and wife Penny, of Sidney, and Charlene and husband Howard, of Sutton, Massachusetts; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, as well as a sister-in law, Marion Bean, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased in death by her husband of 51 years, her brother, Robert Sullivan, and her sister, Cora Crockett.

LUCINDA L. FRANKENFIELD

Lucinda Lee Frankenfield, 78, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019, following a long illness.

Lucinda (Cindy) was born on Feb­ruary 12, 1941, in Bos­ton, Massa­­chusetts, to Evelyn Byrd (Lee) and Har­old Doe, Sr.

She attended Waterville schools as a child, Coburn Classical Institute and graduated from Winslow High School in 1960.

Cindy was a homemaker for a large part of her life and her family meant everything to her. She was a wonderful mother who showed her love in many caring ways. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was known for her special lemon-mint iced tea every summer. She hosted many dinners and family get togethers and enjoyed making the holidays special.

She was so very proud of her children and grandchildren and was always interested in all that was happening in their lives. You could not ask for a better grandmother and Mom.

Later in her life, she worked for several home health care organizations and took care of the needs of many elderly people. She had her own private clients as well, and enjoyed her work immensely. Cindy’s clients loved her as she took good care of them and truly cared for them. This career was a perfect choice for Cindy, as it was fulfilling and she could continue to nurture and care for others.

Cindy loved the Lord and enjoyed going to church and singing in the choir. She attended both China Baptist Church and the South China Community Church over the years. She instilled her love for God in her children and brought them to church at a young age.

She is survived by two daughters; Mary Ann Bolduc and husband Gary, of China, Liana Stanhope and husband Jeffrey, of Bangor, and son David Frankenfield and wife Jill, of Albion; grandchildren, Jacob Frankenfield and wife Sierra, Jonathan Stanhope, Nicholas Stanhope, and Allison Frankenfield.

She was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Lee Doe, and two brothers, Harold Doe Jr. and Randolph M. Doe.

There will be a celebration of Cindy’s life on November 16, 2019, at 11 a.m., at Knox Ridge Baptist Church, in Knox.

OAKLAND – Edwin H. Brown, 70, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2019, at his home in Oakland. He was born November 18, 1948, in Oakland, the son of Edward and Marguerite (Collar) Brown.

He graduated from Williams High School, in Oakland, in 1968, and was employed for many years in the railroad industry as a rail maintenance technician and carpenter. He enjoyed tying flies, fly fishing, hunting and four-wheeling.

Edwin is survived by his wife of 21 years, Kathy Brown, of Oakland; daughter, Amy Theriault and husband Roland, of Sidney; son, Edwin Robert Brown, of Oakland; step-daughter, Michelle Dudley and husband Pete, of Virginia; two sisters, Leota Clark and husband Robert, of Oakland, Marylou Maheu and husband Raymond, of Oakland; brother, Theodore Brown and wife Jean, of Oakland: four granddaughters, Britney Rideout and husband Jared, of Oakland, Brandi Lane and husband Clark, of Smithfield; Rylee Taylor, of Missouri, Arlei Dudley, of Virginia; four grandsons, Austin Brown, of Augusta, Logan Dudley, of Hallowell, Kody Dudley, of Virginia, Noah Dudley, of Virginia; a great-granddaughter, Adriana Hague, of Oakland; a great-grandson, Chase Rideout, of Oakland; several nieces and nephews.

WATERVILLE — Virginia “Ginny” Roy Belanger, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 3, 2019. Virginia was born in Waterville on April 4, 1931, the daughter of Harry and Lena Roy.

Virginia was a lifelong resident of Winslow and active member of St. John the Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir for many years.

Ginny worked 30 years for the town of Winslow School Superintendent and volunteered 17 years at MaineGeneral Medical Center – Waterville Campus.

She had an infectious laugh and sense of humor. Ginny enjoyed spending time with her family, walking, playing cards, and baking. Her chocolate chip cookies were legendary.

She is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Laurent Belanger; infant daughter, Deborah; three brothers, and two sisters.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Page, South Portland, Brenda (Jim) Bird, Bonita, California, Jeffrey (Karen) Belanger, Tuscumbia, Alabama, Jane (Jim) Kiser, Hampden, Michael (Kelly) Belanger, Wilton, New Hampshire; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren across the United States; her sister, Joyce Roy, Augusta; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

SOUTH CHINA — James P. Austin, 69, of South China, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019. Jim was born in Hallowell on December 12, 1949, son of Sumner and Clara Austin.

He was a bus driver for many years for the China school department then went on to work for Employment Specialists of Maine before retirement.

Jim spent his final years with his significant other, JoAnn “Jodi” Small. They had a wonderful life together, living as a team. He loved to work around the yard and tinker on automobiles. Jim enjoyed making others laugh and feel happy.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, Sumner and Clara. He was also predeceased by his brother, Sumner “Skip” Austin, his sisters, Judith Austin (infant) Barbara Austin, Beverly Austin, Bette Taylor, and Jaqueline Austin.

He is survived by his former wife, Sharon Laliberte (August 1972 – July 1991) with whom they had his only son, James “Jim” Austin; nephew, Anthony “Tony” Austin, of Augusta, Donald Austin and his wife, Lisa, of Augusta, and his niece, Stacie Austin, of Standish; and his only grandchild, Gabriel James Austin.

The family will be holding a private service for Jim at a later date.

WATERVILLE — Geraldine “Gerry” Helen Michaud, 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at MaineGeneral Rehab and Nursing Center at Glenridge. Geraldine was born on October 2, 1942, to Merrill and Pearl (Frost) Safford.

Geraldine graduated from Waterville High School in 1962 where she was a member of the Drill Team and FHA. She was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, in Waterville, where she was part of the rosary sodality. Geraldine worked in the laundry at MaineGeneral Medical Center, in Waterville, for 10 years. She also worked as a Nanny for 16 years. Geraldine also liked to spend time crocheting, baking cookies, knitting, playing cards, and camping. Geraldine loved being with her family and opened her home every Friday night to friends and family for, “Family Night.” Geraldine never judged anyone and always had a listening ear.

Geraldine is survived by her husband, Ronald Michaud; son, Steve Michaud and his wife Angelique, daughters, Deborah Smith and her husband James, Michelle Ruhlin and her husband Christopher, Rhonda DeRosby and her husband Paul; brother, Larry Safford and his wife Athea, sister Mabelle Miller; and her grandchildren, Makayla Michaud, Jamie and Justine Smith, Ethan and Eleanor Ruhlin, and Jessop, Kaysie and Rylee Derosby. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Geraldine was predeceased by her parents, Merrill and Pearl (Frost) Safford; and her sister, Marylin Safford.

WINSLOW — Charlie D. Wilson, Jr. , passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 17, 2019. He was born July 1, 1969, the son of the late Charles D. Wilson Sr. and Betty A. Wilson.

Charlie loved his dogs, walks in the woods, disc golf and his amazing disc golf community. Music and dancing were his passion but his greatest happiness came from “Bertha,” his Harley Davidson. He loved his wind therapy most and let’s not forget the tattoos.

He was predeceased by his beloved father, Charles D. Wilson Sr.; and brother Kevin Wilson.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa A. EDWARD P. BECKETT

FAIRFIELD — Edward Perry Beckett, 91, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2019, in Augusta. Edward was born in Waterville on June 22, 1928, the son of George Beckett and Charlotte (Theriault) Beckett.

He attended school in Fort Fairfield, joining the U.S. Navy before graduating. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a deep-sea salvage diver during World War II and the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge in May 1955.

Edward spent many years in the furniture business, starting a large retail store in Fort Fairfield, Beckett’s New and Used Furniture. Later he opened a mattress store in Waterville.

He had his pilot’s license and his own plane. He enjoyed flying to the Bahamas.

Being an ardent animal lover, he supported humane societies, and gave many dogs a very happy life. After retiring he gave his caring ways to people, volunteering many years for Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by his cousins, Robert McKechnie, Floralie Ellis, and Jean Cubbage; as well as many second cousins.

A private service will be held at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

FAIRFIELD – Tammy C. (Williams) Fortier, 52, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019, at her home, in Fairfield. She was born December 8, 1966, in Waterville, the daughter of Richard and Jean (Willette) Williams.

She was educated in the schools of Fairfield and graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, in 1985. She continued her education at Kennebec Valley Technical Institute, in Fairfield, and graduated in 1986 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was employed at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, in Waterville, for 35 years.

Tammy enjoyed crocheting, boating, camping, fishing, puzzles, motorcycling, and being with family.

Tammy is survived by her children, Chad Bagley and partner Vanessa, Erica Smith and husband Barrett, Samantha Steward and husband Todd; parents, Richard Williams III and partner Melody; mother, Jean Nawfel and husband Kenneth; grandchildren Mikey, Molly and Karmyn; brothers, Bruce Williams and wife Melissa, Thomas Williams and wife Elizabeth and Devon Weeks; life-long friend, Edward Fortier; nieces and nephews, Christin, Robert, Mya, Alea; many aunts and uncles.

She was predeceased by grandparents, Richard and Norma Williams Jr., and Norman and Luona Willette Jr.; step-father, Thomas Bailey; and two uncles, Stanley Samson and Claude Willette.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 10 a.m., at the Fairfield Methodist Church, Rtes. 104 & 23, Fairfield, followed by a graveside service at Tozier Cemetery, then to return to the church for a potluck style celebration of life. LOUIS L. LeMAY

OAKLAND — Louis Ludger LeMay, 96, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019. Louis was born July 31, 1923, in Harpswell, to Grace (Moody) and Edgar LeMay.

He was home schooled his first two years by his mother, second through eighth in Harpswell Public Schools, and graduated from Brunswick High School in 1940. Louis worked at Torrey Roller Bushing Works, in Bath, until 1943. He then joined the U.S. Navy, where he was assigned to an LCI #147; which he picked up in Oregon and was stationed in the Pacific Theater until being discharged in December 1945.

He met the love of his life, Thalia Bailey, two days before he shipped out to the Pacific. Their love grew through letters written during these two years. They were married June 27, 1946, and celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary this year. Many of their first years on Sundays were spent at the baseball field where he and his brothers had a team. He started LeMay’s Service, Inc., in 1955 and retired from there in 1985. For the next 20 years they wintered in Largo, Florida, and came home to their cottage on North Pond, in Smithfield. He was an active shuffleboard champion, bowler and bingo caller. He also was an avid Red Sox fan. They enjoyed their travels to Switzerland, England, Scotland, Wales, the cruises to the Caribbean, several trips to Hawaii, and almost all 50 states.

Louis was predeceased by his mother and father; his brothers, Arnold (Virginia) and their daughter Nancy, Joseph (Dorothy) their daughter, Kathleen and grandson, Tommy; his sisters, Dora and son-in-law Philip Bibber, and Lillian (Daniel) and their son, Daniel Jr.; and son-in-law, James Murray.

He is survived by his wife, Thalia; his daughter, Julianne; his son, Steven (Daphne), their daughter Jessica (Owain) and their son Joshua; two great-granddaughters, Bronwyn and Addien; nieces, Carol, Donna Lee (Norm) and Judith (Rob) and one nephew, Tim (Linda); eight grandnieces and nephews; and several great-grandnieces and nephews.

There will be no visiting hours. Graveside services will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery, in Harpswell, for the immediate family. The family extends an invitation to family and friends to stop at their home at 102 Fairfield St. at any time.

JOHN AUDET

OAKLAND — John Audet, 71, lost his battle with lung cancer Sunday, October 20, 2019, Springbrook Center, in Westbrook.

John graduated from Waterville High school, class of 1967, and worked from his teenage years until his retirement in the mailroom of the Waterville Morning Sentinel. John loved animals and was very interested in pipe organs and their history. He had an active imagination and was mechanically gifted, building a unique motorized cycle, at the age of 8 or 9, from a junk bicycle frame and a discarded lawnmower engine.

John was predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Martha Audet, of Waterville.

He is survived by his sister, Sylvia O’Neal, of East Hartford, Connecticut; his brothers, Thomas, of Westbrook, and Michael, of Scarborough. John will also be missed by his good friend, Anthony Johnston, of Oakland. There will be no services per his request

ROBERT J. GODFREY

WATERVILLE — Robert James Godfrey, 92, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. Robert “Bob” was born on April 1, 1927, in Litchfield, to Roland and Leona Fish Godfrey.

He was a graduate of Litchfield Academy in 1944 and loved to note that he graduated third in his class….out of five students! He enlisted in the United States Navy prior to graduation to serve in World War II. In the U.S. Navy, Bob served aboard the U.S.S. Tarawa, an aircraft carrier that patrolled the eastern coast of the United States.

Following the war, Bob worked at Park Motor Mart, in Auburn, the town of Freeport, the Maine Department of Transportation, Farrah Brown, in Augusta, and Beneficial Finance Company, initially in Gardiner, then transferring to Waterville as manager. He remained at Beneficial Finance until 1968 when he joined the Harry J. Smith Company, an automobile and truck service garage, in Waterville.

A highlight of Bob’s career was working at and owning the Harry J. Smith Company, in Waterville. He began work at Harry J. Smith’s in 1968 and became co-owner in 1972. He co-owned the garage until 1980 when he became sole owner until his retirement in 1988. He was proud of leading a tremendous group of individuals who he often claimed were the best group of mechanics north of Boston.

His mild manner, generosity, and calming influence benefited all who worked with him at 13 Sanger Avenue.

In 1948, he met Nancy True ,of Monmouth, while she worked one summer at Tacoma Lakes, in Litchfield. On June 4, 1951, they were married in Monmouth and celebrated with a honeymoon to Québec, driving off to their destination in a 1941 Plymouth.

Bob and Nancy settled initially in Litchfield above True’s General Store. In 1958, they moved to Oakland where they raised their three children, Faye, Peter, and Paul. Their first house was on Waterville Road and they remained at this location until they had a new home built on the Belgrade Road in 1975. Building a new home was an exciting time for everyone. This home was a source of pride and joy to Bob and Nancy. He loved to take care of his yard, mowing the lawn and puttering in the garage. Neighbors and family often claimed that you could eat your meals off of the garage floor because it was so clean. He would constantly fill the many bird feeders around the yard and made sure that the U.S. and state of Maine flags were proudly displayed on the flagpole. Bob and Nancy remained at this location until 2005 when they moved to Rosswood Green condominiums on the Country Club Road, in Oakland. He enjoyed this location as he was given a reprieve from yard work but happily picked up numerous golf balls that strayed into their yard. Their last move was to Park Residences in Waterville in 2017. Bob’s last few months were at the Lakewood Continuing Care Facility, Moonlight Bay unit, in Waterville.

Bob loved to travel. He and Nancy traveled extensively, especially in retirement. They traveled to Canada, England, Europe, Hawaii, many Caribbean islands and all across the United States, much of which was either in their camper or motor homes. They traveled to almost all the states in this country, each time returning with amazing pictures and stories of the sites they had seen. Their family dog Ginger accompanied them on many of these camping trips. Many winters were spent in either Florida or Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Special activities included square dancing in the 1970s as members of the Central Maine Square dancers where he and Nancy traveled and participated in several square-dancing events. The entire family enjoyed snowmobiling for many years and numerous cold winter weekends were spent snowmobiling with family and friends to Rangeley and East Carey Pond. Bob was also an avid candlepin bowler on the Harry J. Smith team, an average team always having an above average time on the lanes.

First and foremost, he loved his family and spending time with them. He had a great sense of humor and shared that with all who were close to him.

He loved to volunteer, spending more than a decade volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Evening Sandwich Program and at the Osteopathic Hospital, in Waterville. His gift was his ability to talk with people. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church, in Waterville, where he served as a deacon and on the finance committee for many years. Robert was also a member of the Waterville Lions Club. Finally, he was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge of Maine, Morning Star Lodge No. 41, serving as master for many years. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living past master with over 70 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nancy; his children, Faye Trafton and her husband Gary, of Manchester, Peter and his wife Cheryl, of Oakland, Paul and his wife Mary, of Cape Elizabeth. Also surviving Bob are his grandchildren, Heather, Sara, Samantha, Dana, Ali, Adam, and Marianna; and his great-grandchildren Logan, Piper, Cameron, Wyatt, Valentina, Bentley, Giovanni, and Eleanor; his sister, Joann Deming, of California, sisters-in-law, Eleanor Godfrey, of Oakland and Noella Safford, of Monmouth; brothers-in-law, Norton True, of Gardiner, Gary Safford, of Monmouth, and Lewis Gustin, of Greene.

He was predeceased by his brother Elwin, of Oakland.

There will be no visiting hours at the family’s request. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at the First Congregational Church in Waterville at 7 Eustis Parkway, on Saturday, November 30 at 2 p.m. A reception will be held immediately following the celebration.

GRACE M. POPE

WATERVILLE — Grace M. Pope, 84, passed away at her Waterville residence on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. She was born in Fairfield on April 23, 1935, the daughter of the late Everett and Villa (Green) Otis.

Grace graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield, and would get together with some of her former classmates on a monthly basis.

She married Robert W. Pope on December 6, 1959, and the couple shared many wonderful years together until his passing on April 27, 2011.

Grace was a very devoted caregiver to many. She was a caretaker to her father-in-law during his elder years and treated her daughter’s friends as though they were her own children. They were always welcomed into her home.

She enjoyed reading, music and writing letters to her family.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Pauline “Polly” Lougee and her brothers, George, Ernest, and Arthur Otis.

Grace is survived by her daughter, Louann Pope of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; her sisters, Ella Christensen, and Laurel “Lolly” Perry, her brothers, Raymond and Arnold “Butch” Otis; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, in Belgrade.

ALBERT J. POTELLE

FAIRFIELD – Albert J. Potelle, 85, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, following a long illness. Albert was born August 3, 1934, the son of Julian and Emeria Potelle and was the last of eight brothers and sisters.

Albert was a devout Catholic Christian spending every day saying the Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, and other prayers for his family and anyone that needed them. He enjoyed nature, having been an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger years. He was a “Jack of all trades” having an innate ability to fix most things without ever being shown how.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Potelle; and five children, Penny Harkins, John Potelle, David Potelle, Dan Potelle and Efram Potelle; many grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

LAWRENCE J. LANDRY

WINSLOW — Lawrence J. (Larry) Landry, 85, passed away on Wednesday, October 23. 2019, at his home, in Winslow. Law­rence was born in Waterville on June 21, 1934, to Felecite Gi­roux Landry and Henry (Babe) Landry.

He did all of his schooling in Winslow. He was employed by First National Grocery Store for 19 years, after which he went into his own business owning a franchise for Pepperidge Farm Bread and Rolls. After selling this business, he and his wife established and built a good business known as LJL Pizza Supply Co., Inc. located on Kennedy Memorial Drive, in Waterville, serving New England states and Canada with several sizes of pizza shells, breads, and rolls produced in their wholesale bakery. They also established a retail shop at the same location. The business was sold in 1985.

Larry at one time was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a past member of the Waterville Elks Club and the Waterville Country Club.

He married the former Carmen Languet, of Waterville, on May 30, 1956. He was drafted in 1957 and served in the Army from 1957-1959.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years; sons, Stephen and wife Dawn, of Biddeford, Paul, of Winslow, Anthony (Tony) and wife Celeste, of Milford, Massachusetts; grandsons Derek and wife Jessica, of Oakland, Donald and girlfriend Lexie, of Biddeford, and granddaughter Elise, of Milford, Massachusetts; geat-grandchildren Julian, Keira, and Jaxson, of Oakland; his brothers Jerome and Shirley Landry, of Winslow, Valmond and Elizabeth Landry, of Winslow; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents and Godson Peter Landry.

RONALD A. WEEKS

VASSALBORO — Ronald A. Weeks, 86, died Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at the Veterans Adminis­tration Medical Regional Office Center, at Togus, following a long illness. He was born in Richmond on February 8, 1933, a son of the late Lin­wood A. and Pearl E. (Dunbar) Weeks.

Mr. Weeks was a graduate of Richmond High School and spent a year at preparatory school at Kent’s Hill. He earned two bachelor’s degrees, one from Bryant College and one from Ricker College.

He joined the Army Air Corps and spent 18 months in Korea.

He came back from overseas and was later signed by the Boston Red Sox.

He had been employed for over 25 years at Blouin Motors, in Augusta, retiring as a vice-president and general sales manager.

Mr. Weeks was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, in Augusta, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Kora Temple Shriners and twice past commander of the American Legion Post #132.

He was an avid hunter, and fisherman and a retired Maine guide. He enjoyed watching his favorite team, the Patriots, play football.

He was predeceased by his wife, Anne. M. (Patrick) Weeks; and two brothers, Arnold and Shelton Tesh.

Mr. Weeks is survived by his son, Wayne L. Weeks, of Vassalboro, his daughter, Rhonda K. Picard and her husband, Robert, of Vassalboro; six grandchildren, Amanda Archer, Robert Picard II, Sheena Weeks, Randy Picard, Rona Little, and Wayne Weeks II; 14 great-grandchildren, Damian, Deacan, Deanna, Destiny, Ava, Kaylene, Madison, Addy, Morgan, Madelyn, Mya, Carter, Gage and Audrey; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
