VIRGINIA M. RUEST

OAKLAND – Virginia “Ginger” Marie (Carpenter) Ruest, 76, passed away Monday, September 23, 2019, at her home, in Oakland. She was born October 16, 1942, in Skowhegan, the daughter of Arthur and Harriet (Goodrich) Carpenter.

She attended the schools of Skowhegan and Waterville. She was employed at South End Café, in Waterville, for many years in the early ‘70s, as a waitress at Mister Donuts, in Waterville, Big Apple, in Winslow, Casewells, in Waterville, Mini Burger and Huddle House, of Cookeville, Tennessee.

Ginger was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and Notre Dame Catholic Church, in Waterville. Other than the love of her family, packing up her kids after a long shift of work, the swimming and picnics at China Lake were her favorite memories and times with her children. Though she couldn’t swim a lick, she always ventured in the water to play with them. She loved all her animals, Puddles, Marty, Skipper Pal and Dino. Her charismatic smile and personality brought joy to all who knew her. Everyone called her “Mom” and she had many other children she loved. Her life was fulfilling and she had many very dear friends.

She is survived by son, Randy Ruest and wife Rhonda, of Oakland; three daughters, Sharon Sherby and partner Steve Corbin, of Oakland, Sandra Therriault, of Oakland, Terrylynn Wentworth and husband Richard, of Waterville; four grandsons, Kyle Therriault, of Orlando, Florida, Nick Ruest, of Waterville, Drake LeBlanc, of Norridgewock, Randy Ruest II, of Waterville, Travis Morse and Trevor Lewis; three granddaughters, Danielle Sack and partner Josh Hancock, of Fairfield, Shaynna Therriault, of Oakland, Hailey Ruest and partner Cody Quirion, of Waterville; three great-grandsons, Adrian Recio, of Orlando, Florida, Jayden Hancock, of Fairfield, Noah Therriault, of Smyrna, Tennessee; two great-granddaughters, Naomi Therriault, of Oakland, Kinsley Hancock, of Fairfield; sister, Lorraine Burke, of California.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Carl Thomas Therriault; her parents, Arthur and Harriet Carpenter; brothers, Philip Carpenter, George Booth, Jerry Carpenter, Richard Booth; sisters, Dot Booth, Verna McCarthy; granddaughter, Angelica Lynn Ruest.

RUSSELL D. PRINCIPATO

WATERVILLE – Russell David Principato, 87, died Monday, September 23, 2019, at Woodlands Senior Living, in Waterville. He was born to Salvatore and Annie (Wentworth) Principato, in Oakland, on February 27, 1932.

Russell graduated from Williams High School, in Oakland, in 1952. In 1953, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Willis A. Lee DL-4 ,out of Boston, Massachusetts.

Russell married Ethel Shores, in Waterville, where they lived together for nearly 40 years. After serving in the Navy, he worked as a machinist at Keyes Fibre (now Huhtamaki), in Waterville, until his retirement. He thoroughly enjoyed electronics and mechanical tinkering and operated a TV and appliance side business for many years out of his home.

Russell enjoyed traveling to fun tourist destinations both internationally and throughout the United States. He looked forward to attending Navy reunions and traveling to California with his daughter to visit his grandson, Jamie. Shopping for souvenirs or trinkets to distribute to family and friends brought him joy. Russell was social and enjoyed eating many, if not all, of his meals out at Governor’s or The Villager restaurants, both in Waterville. He also loved meeting up at McDonalds for coffee with friends. Sweet treats were his favorite.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ethel; twin brother Richard Principato, brothers Leo Principato and Russell Orlando Principato, sisters Marion Hill, Gladys Swett and Rose Principato and brother-in-law Roland Giroux.

He is survived by his daughter Paula Lemar (Dennis); grandson Jamie Krog (Valerie); great-grandsons Logan and Matthias Krog; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Carroll and Carlene Shores, Roland and Kathy Shores, Dorothy Giroux, Maxine Principato; and several nieces and nephews.

At a later date there will be a small family gathering for his burial at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

DIANE J. BODGE

CHELSEA – Diane J. Bodge, 75, of Chelsea, died Saturday, September 28, 2019, following a brief illness, at the Alfond Center for Health, in Augusta. She was born on January 4, 1944, the daughter of Henry Arthur and Oliva (Holt) Staples.

A Gardiner native, she attended Gardiner area schools and married Richard Bodge on November 9, 1962. She spent 30 years of her career working for Etonics Shoe Company, in Richmond. She moved on to work in the cafeteria at the Gardiner Area High School where she remained until her retirement at 65.

She was an avid singer and beach goer. If she wasn’t singing at her computer or out at karaoke, you could find her at Five Islands or Popham Beach; her two favorite places in Maine. She loved bingo, horse racing, fishing, bird watching and camping.

She was a kind, caring and compassionate individual and cherished her time with family, always putting them first. She made sure everybody around her was comfortable before seeing to herself. She was a beautiful sole who never complained. She had a special bond with her first great-grandchild, Makenzie, and enjoyed spending time with her at their home in Chelsea.

She was predeceased by her parents; and siblings Shirley, Robert, Melvin, Arthur, Charles, Norman, Marion and Donald.

Diane is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth and husband Aaron, Sherri and husband Pete, Sandra, Penny and husband Dan; her sister Barbara Jordan; 11 grandchildren, Jason and wife Samantha, Ryan, Carrie, Nicole, Katie and husband Chris, Nathan and fiancee Ashley, Conrad, Kyle, Sasha, Jesse and Samantha; eight great-grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.

At the request of Diane there will be no services. A celebration of life will be held for immediate family.

WINDSOR — Jeri Holt, 72, of Windsor, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2019.

She was loved by her husband, Bob, and her three children. She worked at Erskine Academy, in South China, for 20 years, where she was an English teacher and librarian. She worked for Maine Municipal Association for 17 years as their website and research specialist. She was a wood carving artist and taught herself to be a digital painter. She will be missed by all who knew her.

COLLEEN F. TRUE

CHELSEA — Colleen F. True, 69, of Togus Road, died Sunday, September 29, 2019, at her home. She was born in Augusta on February 25, 1950, the daughter of Norman and Arlene (Hughes) Fossett.

Colleen started her school years at Riverside Grammar School where she made many friends, especially her lifelong friend Linda Lary Bunnell. Colleen and Linda both went on to Hall-Dale (class of 1968). While at Hall-Dale, Colleen continued to make and enjoyed many new friendships that endured over the years. For several years while Colleen was in high school, she worked as a guide at Fort Western, in Augusta. She enjoyed the interaction with the visitors to the fort while answering their questions and showing the exhibits at the fort. She had many great memories of working there and of the co-workers that were there at the time.

After graduating from Hall-Dale she attended the University of Maine, Orono. Colleen enjoyed her college years, the college life, and the friends she made while at school. She started her working career as a data entry clerk with the state of Maine and retired 35 years later as a program analyst for the Maine State Court System. She established and maintained many friendships with her co-workers over the years.

Colleen married Timothy True on July 11, 1970, where they built a life around family and friends. She enjoyed the simple things in life such as reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Colleen enjoyed taking trips across Maine, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and made several trips across the country with her husband and children. She valued the cruises that she took with her daughter and grandchildren, where they all could create memories they could have and share for a lifetime. Colleen enjoyed her annual trip to Small Falls which she brought her children to visit when they were young and continue to visit with her husband to see the leaves change in the fall, her favorite time of the year. Colleen especially loved all the time that she spent with her children and grandchildren. Colleen also had a soft spot in her heart for animals, having many cats and dogs over the years.

She was predeceased by her father Norman Fossett.

Colleen is survived by her husband Tim True, of Chelsea; a daughter Emily True and partner Paul Wadley, of Phoenix, Arizona; a son William True of Chelsea, a son-in-law Douglas Symes and a daughter-in-law Erica True, who Colleen loved as they were both her own children; her mother Arlene Fossett, of Augusta; a brother Henry Fossett, of Augusta, and a sister Melody and her husband, Roland Beaulieu, of Farmingdale; two grandchildren Tanner and Kaden Symes that she loved greatly and was proud of the amazing men they were growing up to become; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on October 26, in the Cross Hill Cemetery, Vassalboro.

MARGARET L. GETCHELL

WATERVILLE — Margaret Louise Getchell, 88, of Waterville, died at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, on Monday, September 30, 2019. Margaret was born in Kezar Falls on August 22, 1931, the daughter of the late Louis Caryle “Carl” Marshall and Hilda Mae (Esterbrook) Marshall, of Auburn.

Margaret attended Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School, in Auburn, in 1949, and she graduated from Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. That same year, she moved to Waterville and worked as a registered nurse at Maine Medical Health, Thayer Unit, until her retirement in 1994. The last 23 years were spent working in the Coronary Intensive Care Unit. She also taught other medical professionals the Coronary Care Course, along with Dr. Michael Szucs, for 15 years.

Margaret married Earl “Jim” Getchell, in 1954. They remained happily married for 48 years until his death in 2002. Together they enjoyed spending time at their camp in Bridgton, and on their many vacations to South Carolina.

She was a fervent member of the Blessed Hope Advent Christian Church, in Waterville, since 1954 and served in various capacities there for most of these years. Of primary importance to her was her strong faith in Christ Jesus. She led a Bible Study group at her church for many years, and with her angelic voice, she sang for her church in ensembles, choir, and solo.

Margaret had a keen intellect and a wide range of interests. She loved nature and the outdoors. She was an avid bird-watcher, was a member of the Josselyn Botanical Society for 43 years, and loved working in her backyard gardens. She was an ardent reader and a passionate scholar of Civil War history, astronomy, and grand opera. She also enjoyed crocheting and puzzles, and was devoted to her close circle of female friends.

Her greatest joys were her two sons and their wives and her three grandchildren.

She leaves behind sons Scott B. Getchell and Catherine L. Monrose, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and David N. and Elizabeth S. Getchell, of Salem, New Hampshire and South Carolina; a granddaughter Marisol R. M. Getchell, and grandsons, Bryce J. Getchell, of Derry, New Hampshire, and Christian J. Getchell, of Salem, New Hampshire; and in-law cousin Anna (Barnes) Hall.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Earl “Jim” Getchell, and her brother-in-law Glenn A. Getchell.

BELGRADE — Marie (Bouthot) Fatima Casey, 68, died on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Marie was born on September 24, 1951, in Rumford to her parents, Victor and Evangeline “Van” Bouthot.

She graduated from the Mexico High School in 1969. She has resided the past 25 years in Belgrade. She worked in the healthcare industry for many years and enjoyed working with adults with disabilities. After retiring, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and in her garden. Marie had many longtime friends who she cherished and for whom she was always there. Becoming a full time MeMe was what she enjoyed the most.

EVELYN R. FRENCH

SOMERVILLE — Evelyn (Rideout) French, 80, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at Maine Medical Center, in Portland, after suffering a heart attack. She was born September 16, 1939, to Lauren and Annie Rideout.

On January 14, 1957, she married Lloyd (Bucky) French. Together they purchased their Somerville home where they lived and happily raised their six children.

After Bucky’s passing, Evelyn continued to carry on with the family traditions. She loved to cook and enjoyed all the holidays in the homestead with her children, their mates, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her doors were always open. She loved lawn sales, auctions, card games, and a good conversation.

PHILIP E. STARBIRD SR.

DADE CITY, Fla. — Philip E. Starbird Sr. (formerly of Clinton), 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital, in Tampa, Florida, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 27, 1932, in Burnham, the son of Earl and Florence (Chamberlain) Starbird Griffeth.

He enlisted and proudly served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a 50-year plus member of Sebasticook Lodge #146 A.F. & A.M., in Clinton. He was a member and past treasurer of the Local #320 Millwrights-Carpenters Union.

He was quick witted, a jokester, and always enjoyed a good game of cards or Dominoes with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his positive attitude and great big smile.

MICHAEL C. SHAW

WHITEFIELD — Michael Charles Shaw passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Writtle, England, son of Charles W. Shaw, of Waltham, Massachusetts, and Sylvia E. (Childs) Shaw, of Writtle, England.

He grew up in Waltham, Massachusetts, and graduated Waltham High School, class of 1964, then received an associate degree in computers from University of Maine Augusta. Retiring as a computer programmer from the State of Maine, Dept. of Environmental Protection. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 through 1971. He married the love of his life, Jeanne (D’Italia) Shaw on August 25, 1979.

He and Jeanne spent their vacations and their honeymoon here and fell in love with Maine. They found the community of Whitefield and settled.

Following the move to Whitefield he became a member of the Kings Mills Volunteer Fire Department and was involved in the Whitefield historical society, the local Boy Scout troop, the church’s Knights of Columbus and the Disabled American Veterans. His favorite group that he had been involved with is the Whitefield Men, as great a group of men as you could meet.

He leaves his son Christopher, his wife Stacy; grandsons Michael, Christopher, and Robert, of Readfield; son Eric and his wife Bethany, of Augusta, and son Daniel and his wife Jessica; granddaughter Emily, of Lincoln Nebraska, and son Ian, of Whitefield; sister Margaret Doheny, of Jefferson; a brother Robert Shaw, of Whitefield, and a brother Steven Shaw, of Lakeland Florida, Uncle James Childs, of Writtle, England, and many nieces, nephews and cousins; and mother-in-law Anna D’Italia (102 years old).

A remembrance service will be held at the Kings Mills Union Hall, Townhouse Road, Whitefield, on Sunday, Sunday, October 13, 2 – 5 p.m.

JOSEPH A. FUSCO III

CLINTON — Joseph Anthony Fusco III, 55, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, following a courageous battle against cancer. He was born January 25, 1964, in Leominster, Massachusetts, to Joseph and Marion Fusco.

That is where he attended school until he joined the U.S. Army in 1982. Joe served six and a half years until he left and followed other paths. Joe was a man of many talents; but he truly found his way after 9/11 and decided to return to the army. He had his heart set on volunteering for deployment and did just that by going to Afghanistan in 2013 with the 133rd Engineer Battalion. He fulfilled his 22-year commitment to the U.S. Army in 2016 and retired after serving many years with the 11th CST, in Waterville, where he recalls some of his best memories.

On April 22, 2016, he married the absolute love of his life, Jessica, after having her by his side for nine years prior to that. He would often joke third time was the charm. Throughout this fight she never left his side.

Anyone who had the opportunity to know Joe knew him for a couple things, one of those being his obsession with fishing. The man saw any body of water and his immediate thought was what he could catch out of it. If he could be on the water he was in his happy place. From catching Stripers on the Kennebec to fishing for Halibut in Alaska, he always found the fish. If you couldn’t find him fishing, you’d most likely find him perfecting his golf swing.

Secondly, that sense of humor! Joe had this unbelievable ability to make anyone laugh. He made the best of every situation and knew laughter cured all. Don’t take life so seriously, it’s too short.

He had an unquestionable love for his family and friends. Joe had an acceptance of everyone and absolute refusal to judge or dismiss anyone. His smile could light up a room. He will be greatly missed by many.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marion Fusco; as well as his brother, Anthony Fusco.

Joey will always be remembered and is survived by his wife, Jessica; his sister Tina Gonsalves and husband Phil; his two sons, Jamie Miner and Travis Fusco, daughter Charity Fusco; along with many others including several grandchildren; many, many family and friends.

BENTON — Betty F. Paul, 78, passed away at home, on Thursday, September 12, 2019. She was born in Waterville, on September 2, 1941, the daughter of John and Lucienne (Grenier) Frappier.

She enjoyed crafting and making jigsaw puzzles.

She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Nancy McLellan; and son-in-law, Barry Crabbe.

CAROLYN J. TRASK

WATERVILLE — Carolyn J. (Ware) Trask, 75, of Waterville, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2019. She was born to the late Charles “Vic” and Lillian (Libby) Ware on January 14, 1944.

Carol attended Portsmouth, New Hampshire, area schools, before attending nursing school, where she became a licensed practical nurse (LPN). She worked at Waterville area nursing homes and the Waterville Osteopathic Hospital (now known as Inland Hospital) from the late ‘60s to early ‘80s while helping her husband at the time, Michael Tulley, raise their four children.

She loved to craft, almost as much as nursing. So, after retirement she and her husband, Lionel Trask, joined the crafting circuit. She was known as the “soap lady” of Mrs. T’s Soaps. She loved attending area craft fairs selling her soaps, wash cloths, and scrubbies. She also loved hosting the monthly knitting club at Seton Village. Her latest favorite pastime was creating beautiful pictures from her adult coloring books and would love to share them with friends, family, and her Mount St. Joseph family. Family and friends were Carol’s passion and delight.

Carol was predeceased by her husband of 31 years, Lionel Trask. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Zachary Tulley.

Carol is survived by her four children, Joni Smith and husband, Alan, of Lincoln, Mark Tulley and partner Midge Ouellette, of Madison, Kelley Frazee, of Fairfield, and Matthew Tulley and partner Sara Goodridge, of Waterville; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; two nieces, two nephews; four great-nieces, and three great-nephews; and her sister Beverly (Ware) Smedberg and partner Randy Spain, of Brewer.

Carol requested for an intimate burial not far from her home.

WATERVILLE — Joseph Arthur Bishop Jr., 81, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019, at Glenridge Rehabilitation and Long Term Care, in Augusta. He was born October 18, 1937, in Fairfield, the son of Joseph Arthur Sr. and Marion (Glacier) Bishop.

He attended the schools of Fairfield and was employed his entire adult life as a mill worker. He was a member of the Elks Club.

Joseph is survived by his companion of 40 years, Joyce L. Ricker, of Waterville; his children, Karen Woodard, Kelly Cote, Karla Willey, all from Dexter, Donna King and her husband Edward, from Nantucket, Massachusetts, Keith Bishop, from Harmony; his grandchildren, Jessica Jacobs and her husband Marshall, from Sangerville, Mandy Perkins and her husband Ryan, from Madison; Samantha Metcalf and her husband Kyle, from Waite, Carrie Campbell and her partner Laurie Brophy, of Waterville, Nathan Ricker, from Portland, Oregon, and Dustin Trottier and his wife Raven, from Brewer; great-grandchildren Hunter and Lucas Jacobs, of Sangerville, Raegan Cowan, Keaghan Perkins and Ty Cowan, all of Madison; other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Joseph was predeceased by his parents; and two sons, Kenny Bishop and Michael Ricker.

WATERVILLE – Albert Irvin Stone, Sr., 67, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 16, 2019, at his home in Waterville. He was born September 19, 1951, in Chatham, Virginia, the son of Amos and Rosa bell (Irven) Stone.

After the birth of his first son, Albert Jr., he moved to Maine to raise his family. After working until the age of 55, he was forced to stop due to health problems. Albert loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman and you could always find him watching NASCAR and football on the weekends. He was a very generous man and would do anything he could to help someone out.

ODBER R. ANDREWS

SOLON — Odber R. Andrews, 88, of Solon passed away peacefully Monday, September 16, 2019, at his home. He was born July 22, 1931, in Norridgewock, the son of Roy C. Andrews and Edith (Hunnewell) Andrews.

Odber graduated from Solon High School in the class of 1949, and from Western National School of Heavy Equipment, in Weiser, Idaho, in 1958.

He worked for Scott Paper Company, in Bingham, as a heavy equipment mechanic for over 30 years.

Since the age of 14, he has been a member of the East Madison Grange and was a member of the Keystone Lodge #80, in Solon, as a mason for over 50 years.

A farmer at heart, Odber could repair anything, was very kind, and a man of few words. He always did what he felt was right, no matter the cost to himself. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Children were very dear to his heart. Odber spent much time volunteering as the church bus driver at United Baptist Church of Madison, as well as helping with various projects at Canaan Christian School, where his children attended.

Besides his wife, Mary, of 55 years, Odber leaves three daughters: Carol Drumm and her husband Brian, of Wilton, Tara Berube, of Mercer, Dulci Corvin and her husband Dwayne, of Pikeville, Tennessee; two sisters, Audrey Hewett, of Sidney, and Dawn Groen and her husband Gerrit, of Minnesota; 15 grandchildren, Ethan, Leah, Courtney, Mackenzie, Cindy, Kristie, Matthew, Benjamin, Robbie, Dalton, Kaytlyn, Marian, Andrew, Ellie, and Reagan; six great-grandchildren, Angelina, Joshua, Henry, Calvin, Jedidiah and Elaina; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Odber was predeceased by his parents; his son, Evander E. Andrews, his sister, Dassie Jackson, and his brother-in-law, Jerome Hewett.

SR. ELIZABETH MADDEN, SSS

BANGOR — Sr. Elizabeth Madden SSS died at Eastern Maine Medical, in Bangor, on Monday September 16, 2019, following a cardiac arrest. She was born on September 21, 1932, in Morgantown, West Virginia, the eleventh of twelve children, the daughter of Martin and Mary Love Madden.

Her family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, when she was a child and graduated from The Ursuline Academy of the Sacred Heart, in Cleveland.

Sister Elizabeth entered the Servants of the Blessed Sacrament, in Waterville, and made her first vows on November 21, 1954. She served the Congregation in Waterville; Hammond, Indiana; Pueblo, Colorado; and Colombo, Sri Lanka. She filled various positions as superior, treasurer, councilor and director of adoration programs, however, Sister specialized in Liturgy and spiritual direction. Returning to Waterville in 1997, she spearheaded adoration programs in Saco and Lewiston.

She will be dearly missed by her family, especially Mr. Michael Madden, of St. Louis, Missouri, and William Madden, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews; and by her community and friends.

ALBION – William “Bill” Edward Lalancette, 64, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, following a brief illness. He was born April 15, 1955, to William Hector Alfred Lalancette and Marie Germaine Constance (Lebranche.)

He was a very proud grandfather in the short time that he was. He was a hard worker and avid hunter.

TIMOTHY L. THOMPSON

WINDSOR – Timothy L. Thompson, 69, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, at Maine Medical Center, Portland, following a brief illness. He was born in Lincoln on November 23, 1949, the son of the late Maurice and Glenys (Myrick) Thompson.

Tim was a graduate of Penobscot Valley High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving for 20 years in the engineering department. He had been employed for several years at Bath Iron Works as a pipe fitter before medically retiring in 2001.

He had many hobbies including woodworking, hunting, fishing, fly tying, reading, and spending time with his family.

Tim is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sherran R. (Copple) Thompson, of Windsor; son, Donnie Thompson and wife Catherine; daughter Kelly Thompson and partner Sean Thibeau; grandchildren Cayden Spencer-Thompson, and Samara Bettez; nephew Donnie Thompson and wife Daphne; brother Rick Jipson and wife Judy; and many cousins; nieces, and nephews.

Tim was predeceased by his parents; and brothers Galen, Alton, and Donald, sisters Julia, Ruth, Janice, and Lorraine.

At his request, there will be no public visiting hours. A committal service will be held on Friday, September 13, at 10 a.m., in the Chapel at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.

RONALD P. BISSON

SIDNEY – Ronald P. Bisson, 67, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at Togus Springs Hospice Center, in Augusta, following a brief battle with cancer. He was born August 25, 1952, in Waterville, the son of Perley A. and Jeannette E. (Cloutier) Bisson.

Ronald graduated from Waterville High School, class of 1971. Following graduation he served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War era. After serving almost eight years in the Air Force, Ron separated from the Air Force and moved back to Maine. This is where he met what would be his future wife, Rachel, who would be the love of his life for the next 40 years. They were married December 5, 1980, after a one year courtship.

Ron was a member of VFW Post #1285, of Waterville. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved puttering in his garage and keeping his yard beautiful.

Ron was predeceased by his father Perley; his mother Jeannette; brother Norman, brother Gerald and sister Joan Melancon.

Ron is survived by his wife Rachel; his daughter Hope Vigue and her husband Robert, of Winslow, son Eric George, of Waterville; five grandsons Layne and Joe Vigue, of Winslow, Andrew and Luke George, of Waterville and Damien Flynn-Shaw, of Fairfield; one granddaughter Cadence Anagnost-George, of Sanford; and many nieces, and nephews.

Services will be held at Notre Dame Church at 116 Silver St., in Waterville, on Monday, September 16, at 11a.m. A reception with refreshments will be held in the church hall immediately after the service. Interment will be held at a later date at the VA cemetery in Augusta.

VASSALBORO – Sandra P. Saunders, 50, died Saturday, August 31, 2019, at her home, following a brief illness. Sandy, the daughter of Bernard J. “Bunk” and Carol I. (Batchelder) Perry, was born July 14, 1969, in Augusta.

Sandy was a 1987 graduate of Cony High School, in Augusta, and earned her associates degree in information technology from Mid-State College. She had been employed by the state of Maine for 31 years, most recently by OIT.

Sandy is survived by her husband of 17 years, Dana S. Saunders, of Vassalboro; two daughters, Randi Shibles and husband Waylon, of Winterport, and Riley Chase, of Fairfield; her brother, Dennis H. Perry and his wife Christine, of Augusta; four grandchildren; and several nieces and cousins.

SOUTH CHINA – Seth R. LaBreck, 35, of South China, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019.

Seth was an amazing man and father. He loved his children more than anything. He loved camping, fishing, pretty much anything outdoors. He loved music and being around his friends and family. Seth made many friends from all over.

He was predeceased by his father, Richard J. LaBreck; and grandfather, Lionel. J. Morrissette.

Seth is survived by his children, Abel LaBreck, four years old, and Jocelyn LaBreck, 11 months old; his mother, Elaine LaBreck and her boyfriend and long-time family friend, Terry Couture; sister, Jessica M. WINSLOW – Jennifer Nicole Hood, 38, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019, the result of a horrific car accident in Windsor. Jennifer was born in Waterville on February 21, 1981, the daughter of Lisa Hood and the late Daniel S. Hood, of Winslow.

Jennifer attended school in Winslow and graduated in 2000 from Winslow High School. Following graduation, Jennifer worked as a CNA off and on throughout her life. She always enjoyed helping others and would do anything you would ask of her. She was a very caring and loving person. She was very family oriented and loved being around her family. She was a good mother and loved being with her kids. She enjoyed camping and fishing and family functions.

Jennifer was predeceased by her father Daniel S. Hood, and her grandfather William J. Annis, both of Winslow.

Jennifer is survived by her four children, Cameron (13), Quinton (11) Cheney, both of Augusta, and Abel (4), Jocelyn (10 months) LaBreck, both of Winslow; her mom Lisa (Annis) Hood and her fiancé Richard Grandmaison, of Winslow; grandmother Jane M. Annis, of Winslow; three brothers Daniel R. Hood and his wife Cori and their three children, of Waterville, Dylan S. Hood his wife Kiera and there two children, of Madison, Derek W. TIMOTHY W. CUTHBERTSON

WHITEFIELD – Timothy Wayne “Tin Cup” Cuthbertson, 66, of Whitefield died unexpectedly, Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at the Alfond Center for Health, in Augusta. He was born December 3, 1952, in Augusta.

He graduated from Erskine Academy, in South China, in 1971. He was enlisted into the Maine National Guard for six years.

Tim was employed for Cives Steel, in Augusta, for 34 years and was currently employed by Specialty Products, in Whitefield. No matter the challenge, Tim was a fierce competitor. He was a member at Natanis Golf Course, in Vassalboro, since the mid-‘70s. He played skins games and men’s leagues multiple days a week and would typically finish the round with a beer and occasional poker game. No matter the outcome of the golf round or poker match, Tim was always the instigator. He also loved hunting and fishing and was a member of the “Biggest Buck in Maine Club.” His garage contains lifetime of trophies and accolades, specifically his impressive collection of deer mounts.

Tim is survived by his high school sweetheart of 47 years, Jo Cram Cuthbertson; sons Michael Cuthbertson and wife Paula, Kevin Cuthbertson and partner Angel Michaud; siblings Lee, Jewell, and Joan, and their spouses.

FAIRFIELD – Stephen William Hughes, 77, passed away at home on Wednesday, September 4, 2019. “Steve,” first of twins, was born in Worcester, Massa­chusetts, on November 27, 1941, to parents Marion B. (Marsh) and William Hughes.

He graduated from Northbridge High School in 1959.

Steve joined the Air Force and while stationed in California met his wife, Sandy. Steve was the patriarch of a very proud military family, which had members in the Air Force, Army, and Navy. After his time in the Armed Forces, he entered the medical field. Steve worked as an orderly on an oncology unit before becoming a nurse and working in state hospitals as well as a California Prison.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brother Richard Clark and sister-in-law, Muriel Hughes.

LUCILLE M. CLICHE

WATERVILLE – Lucille Mary Cliche, 99, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019, during a brief stay at the Lakewood Nursing Facility, in Waterville. She was born on June 18, 1920, in Van Buren, where she was one of nine children born to the late George Roy and Rose Anna Clavette (Roy) (Maheu).

The family relocated to the Waterville area shortly thereafter, where she attended Waterville schools. She later met and married Emile R. Cliche on August 22, 1940, in Waterville. Lucille worked at the C. F. Hathaway Shirt Co., in Waterville, for several years while raising her family. She enjoyed traveling and fishing in her younger years.

Later in life she could be found playing the piano and organ, singing, dress making, knitting and talking with her siblings. She was a kind-hearted soul that was loved by many.

Lucille was predeceased by her parents, Rose Anna and George Roy; by her husband Emile R. Cliche; brothers Ivan Roy and Roland Roy; sisters, Ann Upham, Loretta Fredette, Simone Lemieux, Joan Pelletier, Carole Roy and little angel girl, Roy; and a grandson, Timothy Cliche.

She is survived by her daughter, Claudette Cliche, of Winslow, and a son, Carl Cliche Sr. and his wife Mary Jane, of Clemson, South Carolina; and a sister, Bernadette Tilton, of Stockton Springs; three grandchildren, Ty Kerr, of Winslow, Carl Cliche Jr. and his wife Charlotte, of Gainesville, Georgia. and Kimberly Lee and her husband David, of Guyton, Georgia; seven great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family.

DONALD L. AMES

WINSLOW – Donald Leo Ames, 69, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019. Donnie was born in Waterville on August 15, 1949, the son of the late Horace Ames and Beulah Veilleux.

He graduated from Lawrence High School, in Fairfield. In his earlier years, Donnie was employed by Fort Halifax Packing, in Winslow, and later worked 20 years for Scott Paper Co., in Winslow.

He was a faithful member of Shawmut Chapel, in Shawmut. Donnie greatly enjoyed singing and listening to music. He was very meticulous about his lawn and yard. He took great joy in working around the house. Donnie also enjoyed watching the TV show Dark Shadows, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Even when he was ill, he would attend the many events the kids were involved with.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Lionel Veilleux; his sisters, Marion Bailey, and Susan Davis, his brothers, Tommy Veilleux, Chegaw Veilleux, and Eugene Ames, and his sister-in-law, Phyllis Ames.

MAURICE KENNEDY

WINSLOW – Maurice “Moe” Kennedy, 85, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019. Maurice was born in North Vassalboro on February 28, 1934, to Harold G. Kennedy and Orena E. (Poulin) Kennedy, the third of five children.

He attended school in North Vassalboro and Winslow High School. He received his G.E.D. as an adult. Maurice married Geraldine J. Grondin on May 15, 1954, in Waterville, and together they raised three children. He worked at Hollingsworth & Whitney, later known as Scott Paper Company, for 36 years, retiring in June 1989. Maurice was an avid hunter and fisherman for many years and enjoyed being outdoors. He also loved gardening, both flowers and vegetables, and some said instead of having a ‘green thumb,’ he had a ‘green hand.’ All benefited from his annual harvest of vegetables. He was also very handy and could fix just about anything. He enjoyed spending time with family and attended many of his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. He played the guitar and harmonica, and loved to dance with his wife, Gerry.

Maurice and Gerry enjoyed traveling throughout their married life. They took several cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska and visited many cities throughout the United States and Canada. They also visited several countries in Europe and spent many winters in Hawaii.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Orena Kennedy; his sisters, Joan Boulette and Marlene Rogers, of California and Oregon, and his brothers, Harold Kennedy, of California and Waterville, and Robert E. Kennedy, of Winslow.

Moe is survived by his wife of 65 years; his daughter, Cathy (Kennedy) Zemrak and her husband Brian, of Winslow, his son, Larry Kennedy and his wife Jane (Etchie) Kennedy, of Florida, his son, Christopher Kennedy and his wife Rebecca (Sawyer) Kennedy, of Cumberland; his grandchildren, Lenny Kennedy, Lance Kennedy, Mindy Zemrak, Katrina Zemrak and her husband, Alexander Mattingly, Zachary Kennedy, Benjamin Kennedy, and Matthew Kennedy; and his three great-granddaughters, Kiara Kennedy, Ava Kennedy, and Lilianna Kennedy; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 2, at 11 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church, in Winslow.

BRIAN E. BLODGETT

ATHENS – Brian Elic Blodgett, 67, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 17, 2019, at his home in Athens. Brian was born on October 3, 1951, in Fairfield, to Clarence Sr. and Christine Blodgett.

He was raised as one of 15 brothers and sisters on their family dairy farm. He attended the Fairfield school district where he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball.

In his early youth he worked hard doing chores on the farm and spent his free time raising chaos with his siblings, more so with his brothers. They would play whatever musical instrument they had on the hill behind the house, or toss around a ball that had seen many miles in its day. Laughter could be heard in whatever they did and many memories where made outside in the fields behind the farm.

Later in high school after seeing many of his brothers go into service Brian enlisted in the National Guard. He was a handsome young fellow in his uniform. He watched as his siblings grew and married off. He met his wife-to-be a few years after graduating. They married on June 10, 1972.

He worked at Norwolk Shoe Company and Dexter Shoe. They lived in an apartment downstairs from their in-laws until they were ready to purchase a home on Hilton Hill Road, in Skowhegan. At this time their first two children were born, Crystal and Brian II. When the kids were five and three, respectively, the family moved to a farm in Athens where Brian decided to go back to his roots and take up dairy farming. Thirteen years later two more children were born, Alexander and Philip. The house was full and busy from dawn until dusk.

As their eldest children grew and moved away from the farm, Brian and Linda’s lives changed also. It was a difficult decision, but after running dairy then beef and back to dairy cows, they sold the farm. They kept a piece of land down the road where they built their final home. His later years were spent enjoying the outdoors whenever he could and puttering around the house. He cherished the company of his four children, thirteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was the hardest working man we will ever know and never spent time passing judgment on others. His heart was big and his laughter loud. He will be greatly missed by all. We all love you for every family title you hold.

He is survived by a large family. His wife Linda, of 47 years, and his four children – Crystal and her husband Jim Bowman and their children, Brian II and his family, Alexander and his wife Jennifer and their children, and Philip and his family, as well as Brian’s siblings and their ever growing families.

VERO BEACH , Fla. – Pearl Valerie Page 93, of Vero Beach, Florida, died Wednesday, August 21, 2019. Valerie was born in Winslow on January 1, 1926.

She graduated from Winslow High School in 1944 and worked for the state of Maine as clerk of courts at the Kennebec County Superior Court, in Augusta, before retiring in 1988. In addition, she had the great honor of sitting on the Maine Judiciary Council. Following retirement, Valerie studied oil and pastel painting which brought her great joy. She most recently took classes at the Vero Beach Art Museum. Valerie’s other passion was shopping.

She was predeceased by her parents, Delia Poulin Rancourt and Romeo Rancourt; husband, Miles Page; her son, Bruce Page; three brothers, James, Romeo and Karl.

She is survived by her daughter, Kellie and her husband, Manuel Mateus, of Vero Beach, Florida, son, Paul Page and his wife, Diane, of Raymond, New Hampshire; three grandchildren, Keith Page, Joshua Page, and Melissa Mateus; several great and great-great-grandchildren.

A private burial service will be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Augusta, at a later date.

GLORIA PINETTE

SOUTH CHINA – Gloria (Dowe) Pinette, 82, passed away On Sunday, August 18, 2019. Gloria was born on May 26, 1937, in the town of South China, the daughter of Edmund and Alice Dowe.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Joseph Pinette; children, Gregory, Scott and Lori Pinette; brothers and sisters, Ruth Hussey, Marilyn Bragg and Richard, Robert, Roger and Ronald Dowe.

She is survived by her son, Brian Pinette; sisters, Dorothy Burke and Barbara Poulin; grandchildren, Jed Pinette Kundl, Luke Kundl Pinette, and Derry, Moira and Ian Salewski, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Gloria is remembered as an excellent baker, a voracious reader and an eager shopper.

There will be a celebration of her life (at a date yet to be determined) where you will be able to share your memories of her, too.

CAROL B. FERREIRA

UNITY – Carol Beaulieu Ferreira, 75, died at her home on Friday, July 26, 2019, following a long illness. She was born on Decem­ber16, 1943, in Waterville, the daughter of Edward and Edwina Beaulieu.

Carol grew up in Fairfield and was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1961. She was always quite proud to be a Lawrence Bulldog. Upon graduation she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Ferreira on September 2, 1961.

Carol lived in Unity where she enjoyed being a homemaker and working at Unity Pharmacy for many years. She enjoyed spending summers at the lake and eventually lived year-round on the lake. She enjoyed knitting, she would knit beautiful mittens all year long and give them to the local school and church for area children. In her early years, she and Bob enjoyed camping, snowmobiling and going to the races. She also enjoyed going to Disney World every spring with her grandchildren. She was a member of Unity Union Methodist Church. In her later years she loved just being at home and would help her husband do paperwork for their business, Ferreira Trucking.

Carol was predeceased by her husband, Robert Ferreira on June 12, 2019; her parents, Edward and Edwina Beaulieu; her father and mother in-law, Henry and Edna Ferreira; her son-in-law, Michael Jones; and a very special aunt, Joann Miville.

She is survived by her daughter, Lori Ferreira Jones, of Unity; her son, Timothy Ferreira and wife Suzanne, of Unity; her grandchildren, Amy Jones Corson and husband Michael, and Adam Robert Jones and Nikki Abrahamson, and Hannah Ferreira and Nicholas Ferreira, all of Unity, Alissa Jones Keene and husband Kyle, of Belfast; her eight great-granddaughters, Kaylee, Allyee and Rylee Corson, of Unity, Mikala, Kristyn, Kelsey and Savanna Jones, of Unity, and Raegan Keene, of Belfast; her sister, Ann Beaulieu Maglaras and husband John, of Pittsfield; her niece, Megan Maglaras Stevenson and husband Bob and daughter Ashlynne Donovan, of Vassalboro.

A service for Carol will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at Unity Union Church, on Depot Street, in Unity, at 1 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Unity Pond Cemetery. The family would like to invite you to join them back at the church for refreshments.

CHARLES J. PARE

OAKLAND – Charles J. Pare, 81, of Oakland, formerly of Enfield, Connecticut, died on Sat­urday, July 27, 2019, at his home. He was born on June 28, 1938, in Hartford, Connecticut, the son of Alice (Sullivan) and Edward Pare.

He attended and graduated from Hartford schools before enlisting in the US Air Force.

He married the former Jeanette Malpas and together they would have three children. Charles worked at combustion engineering and then was a senior materials analyst with Pratt & Whitney where he retired. He was instrumental in opening the Senior Center, in Oakland, with Sherry Gilbert.

He is survived by his children: Mark Pare and his wife Joanne, of Arizona; his daughter Annette Ramsdell and her husband Andrew, of Connecticut; his daughter Michelle Leary, of Arizona; his grandchildren, Kristen Pare, David Ramsdell, Brett Pare, Taryn Ramsdell, Brenden Leary, Courtney (Pare) Hollman, Keegan Leary, MacKenzie Ramsdell; his great-grandchildren, Luca, Finley, Zoe, Kali, Luna, Finn, Ava and Kayden; his brother James Pare, of Connecticut, and his sister Pauline Collins, of Florida.

He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years; his great-grandson Kaydence Charles Ramsdell; his brother Raymond and his sister Mary.

EREK C. LINDBERG

VASSALBORO – Erek Charles Lindberg, 76, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, following several months of illness. He was the youngest of four children. He was born December 5, 1942, in Boston, Massachusetts, and at the age of 10 moved to Waterville upon meeting Leslie and Berle Ward, who took him into their home and raised him. He graduated from Erskine Academy, in South China, in 1960. His fondest childhood memories were living with “Gramp” and Berle on the small farm in Vassalboro.

Erek was a pipefitter by trade. While working at Statler Tissue, in Augusta, in 1977, he received massive back trauma which ended his career. Following numerous surgeries and years of “rehabilitation,” (a.k.a. “Freddie’s Garage”) he was back on his feet. With his two best friends of 50 years by his side, Bill (William) Pullen and Jessie Ackers, of Vassalboro, Erek enjoyed building and riding dune buggies on weekends with their wives by their side, (He may not have liked much but he did like that). He also enjoyed riding his Harley with his wife in tow and the wind blowing through his nonexistent hair. He and Helen visited many states with their Hog friends.

Erek was predeceased by his daughter, Janice (Jan Jan S—Poke) Pelotte, of Vassalboro, his “favorite sister-in-law” Linda MacKenzie, also of Vassalboro, and his brother, Charles, of Florida.

He leaves behind his wife, Helen of 36 years; granddaughters, Courtney and Rebecca Pelotte; a stepson, Rob Starratt and a stepdaughter, Carrie Starratt; also six grandchildren and four great-granddaughters; his two sisters, Barbara Shadrick and Ginger Dellasandro, both of North Carolina.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, August 24, at 11 a.m., at Village Cemetery, on Cemetery Street, in Vassalboro. A gathering will follow at the United Methodist Church, Rte. 32, in Vassalboro.

ANGELA A. PHILBRICK

SOMERVILLE – Angela Ann Philbrick, 36, of Frye Road, died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at Lincoln Health Miles Campus, Damariscotta. She was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, on January 12, 1983, the daughter of Harry E. Philbrick, Sr. and Patricia Ann (Vaillancourt) Philbrick.

Angela was a graduate of Erskine Academy, of China, and she received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine at Augusta.

She was a loving mother to her three daughters and an aunt to her niece and nephew and the many children whom she gave encouragement and inspiration to in life. She gave whatever she could to them to help them to see and do things they may have not gotten the opportunity to do.

She was a strong person who had overcome many obstacles in her life. She fought through and persevered through all of them even though at times it seemed impossible to her.

The greatest joy in her life was her three beautiful daughters whom she absolutely lived for. They were her whole life and her passion. There was nothing that she would not have done for them.

She was a loving and caring wife to her husband and showed him that, sometimes even in the darkest moments, there is always hope for better times.

Angela was employed by Hussey’s General Store, in Windsor. She worked in the grocery department, pumped gas and helped do grain. She had many customers that would look just for her to help them. She also trained many of the new employees.

Surviving is her husband, Timothy M. Dostie, of Somerville; her parents, of Waldoboro; three daughters: Bianca Ann Dostie, Ashlyn Kayson Dostie and Samantha Rose Dostie, all of Somerville; and one brother, Harry E. Philbrick Jr., of Warren.

RICHARD H. GRAY SR

WINDSOR – Richard H. Gray, Sr., 85, died Thursday, August 8, 2019, at the VA Maine Health Center at Togus following a brief illness. He was born in Vassalboro on May 10, 1934, a son of the late William W. and Sara (Hunter) Gray.

Mr. Gray was a graduate of Gates Business College and had been employed by Central Maine Power for over 24 years.

He was a Whitefield Lions Club member, coached Windsor Little League, and extremely proud of his Eagle Scouts he helped as Scoutmaster for Troop #609.

Mr. Gray was pre-deceased by a brother, Phillip Gray.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Laura M. (Fowle) Gray, of Windsor; two sons, Richard H. Gray, Jr. and his wife, of Windsor, and Timothy S. Gray and his wife, of China; a brother, William Gray, of China; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

DANNY W. DANFORTH

SIDNEY – Danny Wallace Danforth, 61, died peacefully at his home on Friday, August 2, 2019. Danny was born in Leominster, Massachu­setts, on September 22, 1957, the son of Cecil M. and June F. (Slattery) Danforth.

He graduated from Monmouth Academy in 1975.

Danny worked for Digital Equipment Corporation, in Augusta, before starting his longterm career in postal operations. He worked for the USPS, for the Department of Defense as a contractor in Balad, Iraq, and was currently employed as a supervisor of mail operations with the state of Maine.

Danny (a.k.a Boone) enjoyed hunting in Maine and Texas with his buddies, Trailboss, Blindman, Bushwhacker, Shooter, Slayer, Kdawg, Cockroach, Blackfly, P, and Annie. He would not want anyone to forget about his prize Texas whitetail and all of his hunting and fishing adventures.

He was also an avid baseball fan, from coaching Little League in Mt. Vernon to cheering on his son when the Maranacook Black Bears won the state championship. He cherished his trips to Disneyworld with the family and in later years with Robin. Of course, we can’t forget to mention his love for the Dallas Cowboys.

He was predeceased by his parents; and father-in-law, Robert L. Boynton.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Robin; mother-in-law, Shirley Boynton, of Oakland; son Matthew and wife, Sarah, and granddaughters, Claire and Charlotte, of Elm Grove, Wisconsin; and son Patrick and fiancée, Shana, of Dickinson, Texas; brothers, Bret and partner, Ann, of Athens, and Kent and wife Audrey, of Willis, Texas; and sister Audrey, of Westbrook; brother-in-law Barney and wife Theresa Boynton, of Gray; and sister-in-law Ronda Karter, of Augusta,; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins

At Danny’s request, there will be no memorial service and his ashes, which are being stored, also at his request, in a Folger’s Coffee can, will be scattered on a future date.
